Usman ibn Affan made several important contributions as the third caliph of Islam:
1) He established an official version of the Quran by convening a committee to debate variations and ordering copies be made and distributed. This helped protect the divine words of the Quran.
2) Under his leadership, the Islamic empire expanded into Persia and parts of Afghanistan.
3) He expanded the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah which had become too crowded, building a larger structure using funds from the public treasury.
