Women experience significantly higher rates of poverty compared to men. Two-thirds of the world's poor are female, and they receive only 10% of the world's income and own less than 1% of the world's property. Female-headed households have much higher poverty rates than male-headed or married households across all races. After a divorce, a man's standard of living increases by 42% on average while a woman's decreases by 73%. Women also continue to earn significantly less than men in both average incomes and in higher-paying jobs and leadership positions.
