There is a misconception that to be a startup you need to have a team that can build a full product. And only when the product is built can you attract customers and convince them to pay! But this approach takes a lot of time, and an abundance of resources that are unavailable to most entrepreneurs.
In this workshop, Poornima will share strategies for brainstorming, validating your idea, launching it, and even attracting early adopters who are willing to pay, as a scrappy startup.
Founders Institute - Mentor Presentation on Research, Customer Development an...Humphrey Laubscher
This presentation give an overview of the history of Lean Startup including Steven Blank with Customer Discovery, Eric Ries with Lean Startup and Ash Maurya with Lean Canvas. I then give some example for finding early adopters and how to measure and track customer interviews.
It's often unclear what tracks are available to people in technical careers such as designers, engineers, and product managers within any size organization. The path chosen by many is the management track, but what if you want to stay technical? Are there alternatives?
In this talk, you'll learn:
• What to think about when you're evaluating the choice between pursuing a management vs a technical track
• The opportunities that are available to you if you choose to go down a technical track, what the day-to-day will be like, and how to prepare for this path
This presentation is tailored to women in technology. It covers how to communicate concerns to a team and supervisors, as well as how to craft an ASK regarding a promotion, pay raise, or change in role.
Despite the growing push of women to join tech professions, the attrition rate of women in technology is still pretty high. There are a number of factors that lead to their departure from their technical roles or from the industry altogether. Often times it has less to do with their technical prowess, and more to do with an environment that is less than hospitable.
In this Femgineer Forum we'll cover the following:
• How to encourage women to stay technical throughout their careers
• How women can participate more fully and effectively on teams
• How women can take on technical leadership roles
If you're tired of working on the same mind-numbing projects, this presentation will who you how you can present projects to get them approved within your current company.

Winning your company over to modern product thinking (ProductCamp Boston 2016)ProductCamp Boston
Let's face it, there is the world of executive-driven product prioritization, specifications, roadmaps in stone and requirements documentation. Then there's the right way to build products in this incredibly fast-paced world, where evidence-based decision-making is king, the user is at the center and your small team delivers working features in days instead of months. Which world would you like to spend more time in? In this session I'll reveal what I've learned the hard way helping bring Agile, Lean Startup and Design Thinking first to NPR, and since then to dozens of companies, helping organizations understand and then embrace the power and fun of modern product thinking. Expect to take away practical, proven ideas on how to get your company to try new product development methods and buy into thinking in new ways and ultimately enabling change.

Poornima Vijayashanker deliveries a keynote at SunShine PHP Conference 2015. In the keynote she talks about what culture is, and how it's built on identity, rituals, and decision-making.
Mint.com was one of the key startups that sparked innovation in banking, and began leading the revolution in the nascent field of financial tech. In this talk, Mint.com’s founding engineer, Poornima Vijayashanker, will talk about the direction the industry is moving in, and what the future holds for money and banking.
Watch the talk here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJfdxEuJVdM
Many great innovations began as toys built by individuals who love to tinker. In this talk, Poornima Vijayashanker tells us that she was introduced to technology, as a child, by her father who talked to her about ‘wafers and chips’. At home, she wasn’t afraid to take things apart; she even programmed the VCR, and installed the sound card in her family’s first PC. While people use technology, they fear learning how to code and building things. Machines are seen as a black box that should be left alone! In her talk she explains that we need to reignite people’s curiosity and imagination by getting back to engineering’s roots – tinkering and playing with things to see how they work.
Public speaking can be scary, but it can also be a great way to catapult your career!
Unfortunately people hold themselves back from speaking at conferences because they either don't know what to share, or feel like they need to be an expert in order to speak.
In this event, you'll learn:
• Why you should speak at technical conferences
• How to brainstorm and come up with topics to talk about
• How to submit a proposal
• How to structure a talk, engage with an audience, and keep those butterflies in your stomach at bay!
Since the acquisition of her first startup, Mint.com, Poornima Vijayashanker has transitioned from the role of founding engineer to founder for two startups: BizeeBee and Femgineer. In this talk, Poornima will shed light into the first steps founders need to take when it comes to bringing an idea to life, building a product, and a creating company.
Have a great idea for a project or process improvement, but know it will get shot down? In this session, we’ll cover how to deal with push back from peers and supervisors, and provide you with strategies to getting the buy-in you need to make progress!
Finding a Fit: How to Evaluate a Company's Culture and the OpportunityPoornima Vijayashanker

Developers rely on manipulating data to create an engaging product for users. But in the early stages of a product, there is a dearth of it, which can make the user experience dull. Then as the product ages, the amount of data increases, and can become too noisy if not properly organized. In this talk, Poornima Vijayashanker will provide some strategies for dealing with data life cycles, and how to understand what stage you're at to guide product development.
In this Femgineer Forum, Poornima Vijayashanker explains the importance of needing female leadership in high tech, and provides some strategies for how to become a leader.
For those in tech who maybe wondering how to switch teams, positions, take on additional responsibilities, or are ready to take on a leadership position in any department. Learn strategies on:
- How to assess if you're a fit for a new role
- How to initiate the switch by leveraging existing skills

These are their slides, we hope you enjoy them. Thank you for supporting Chinaccelerator and entrepreneurship worldwide.
This presentation will reveal what truly motivates people and the real reasons why conflict happens, both in the workplace and our personal life. Behavior is driven by motivation; motivation is something that is hard-wired into every human being. So the questions remain: What motivates people and how do I recognize this in my stakeholders? How do I leverage this so that I can achieve maximum productivity from our time spent developing requirements?

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
