Fused deposition modeling (FDM) is a type of rapid prototyping that builds 3D objects layer by layer from a CAD file using ABS plastic. It allows prototypes to be produced in hours rather than weeks, saving time and money. TechHelp, a Boise company, uses an FDM3000 machine from Stratasys to provide rapid prototyping services to clients, allowing designers to verify and change designs more efficiently. The FDM process extrudes plastic through a nozzle to build objects layer by layer.
