In early 2000s, Orient Group of Companies became one
of the most successful home electronicsbrand in Pakistan.
The company had its very humblebeginings almost five
decades ago from a small retailer operation in Lahore.
The man who led the company from its humblebeginings
to inspiring heights was Mian Muhammad Fazal. He
along with his team worked hard towards bringing new

Goal orientation describes the actions of people and
organizations regarding their primary aims. In business,
goal orientation is a type of strategy that affects how the
company approaches its revenues and plans for future
projects. While all businesses are naturally goal oriented
in some way, goal orientation plays an important role in
focus and fund allocation. Goal orientation also plays a
part in management styles and information technology
projects.
General Definition
Goal orientation is the degree to which a person or organization
focuseson tasks and the end results of those tasks. Strong goal
orientation advocatesa focus on the ends that the tasks are made for
instead of the tasks themselves and how those ends will affecteither
the person or the entire company. Those with strong goal orientation
will be able to accurately judge the effectsof reaching the goal as well
as the ability to fulfill that particular goal with current resources and
skills.
Meaning on the StrategicLevel
On a strategic level, organizations attempt to use their vision
statementsand core competenciesto stay goal oriented wherever
possible. Businesses can run into problems with a lack of goal
orientation. It can be tempting for a successful business to start
diversifying into other tangential areas that may also be profitable.
However, an organization with strong goal orientation will keep
focused on what it was originally good at and what its customers now
expect.
Meaning in Management
In managementcircles, goal orientation is more focused on individual
training and leadership of individuals. Managers study what goals
motivate different types of employees the most -- some may be more
attracted to increased bonuses, while others may enjoy the acclaim,
the teamwork or simply the increased successof the business.
Different types of coaching may be necessary for different approaches
to goals. In other ways, managers must learn to break down company
goals into more ideal pieces for employees and teams to deal with one
at a time.
Meaning in IT
In IT departments, employees must often work to create or fix
applications that allow others to analyze or accessdata. These
applications have many different interfaces that users must interact
with to reach their end goal -- a particular sum, chart or other result.
Good goalorientation leads to the creation of easy-to-use interfaces
that show an understanding of the goals users have and how they can
be reached.
