All School Parent Meetings – Building for Boys

   1. Why is Town considering this project?
To create a building that meets the needs of a 21st
Century curriculum. A 21st Century curriculum
                needs more and different space.
With modifications, our current location can meet
                our educational objectives.
Recommendation based on upon collaboration and
research of the Town faculty and staff and the
Education Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Need to upgrade our building’s structure.

   2. What is the project scope?
We have developed a Campus Master Plan that can be done
   in phases.
Phase 1 - the East Wing Renovation - will include the
creation of a multi-lab STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and
Math) center on the second floor, and a new art center on the third
floor. Structural work will also be done.
Phase 2 - the Core Project - will include 6 new classrooms,
including new flexible spaces, a “Lit Center”, structural upgrades
and the excavation under the roof of the lower field, but not
completion of, the multipurpose space. (The lower field playing
   space will remain intact)
A third phase to complete the large multipurpose room for
the second gym and performing arts center will be done in the
future as part of Town’s campus master plan when funds are
   available.

   3. What is the time frame?
Phase 1 is currently planned for next summer – June 2012
        to late August 2012.
Phase 2 is planned for the summer of 2013 – summer 2014.
The third phase completion date is TBD, and depends on
        funding.

   4. How much will this cost?
Phase 1 and 2 will cost $20 million.

   5. How will we pay for it?
The Board is planning a $15 million capital campaign. The
balance will be funded from endowment.

   6. Are our boys are safe?
Our boys are safe. It makes good sense to take the
opportunity to bring the building up to contemporary
standards while we are renovating certain parts of the
          building.

   7. Will the school have to move off campus? Where?
We expect that more than half of our students will remain
on campus because of the staging of the project.
The Education Committee of the Board is researching
alternative locations for the 2013/2014 school year. Our
goal is to make the year a fun learning experience. This is a
unique opportunity and we want to make the most of it.

It is too early in our planning process to have a specific
location selected. We will provide updates promptly as we
           have them.

   8. How will we get updates?
We will have a web page on the portal that will have all
current information and will be updated regularly. You will
be able to see one big update, the STEM center, when you
         return in the fall!

   9. How will this impact my child’s experience during the next 4
      years?
The goal is for all children to have a very positive experience
during the construction period. We will use the building
project as a teaching tool – studying architecture,
engineering, and design. Importantly, starting next fall
(2012), all students will have access to the new STEM

center. And after Phase 2 is complete (Fall 2014), the boys
will have a new facility that is tailored to a true 21st century
           education.

   10. Will tuition increase as a result of this project?
The capital campaign will pay for the facility improvements,
NOT tuition increases. The Board is committed to a
financially affordable project that does not raise operating
costs and pressure tuition, keeping Town affordable to as
wide a range of families as possible.
