This document compares the current and proposed space allocation at Golden Gate University. It shows that the proposed plan would decrease instructional space by 17,279 square feet through eliminating 9 classrooms. This reclaimed space would be reallocated to other programs and resources. The proposed plan would also increase assignable workspace, interaction space, and administrative space through more efficient use of the existing building footprint.
Golden Gate University was optimizing its instructional space inventory based on course scheduling needs. The proposed room inventory counts aimed to meet minimum needs while accommodating peak classroom utilization as well as large classes. The inventory was driven by evening peak loads, daytime large classes, and further stress testing. Charts showed examples of heavy and lighter class week schedules to demonstrate classroom occupancy and utilization patterns.
The document summarizes three potential scenarios for blocking space in Kane Hall at UC Hastings College of the Law. Scenario 1 prioritizes flexibility and clear delineation between programs but limits identity development. Scenario 2 optimizes identity development but could limit expansion. Scenario 3 relocates journals and most classrooms to the first floor to activate the space and follow campus planning goals, but reserves the first floor for future uses. The scenarios are compared based on pros and cons related to flexibility, identity, traffic flow, and responsiveness to the long range campus plan.
The document provides information on conceptual programming scenarios for Golden Gate University's library remodel project. It includes examples of how other university libraries organize space, such as grouping spaces by noise level, layers of activity, or functional requirements. Floor plans and descriptions of study space, collaborative space, book browsing areas, and staff spaces at sample libraries like Loyola Marymount University are presented. Services and facilities information for the sample libraries is also given.
The document provides an agenda and materials for a UC Hastings Kane Hall Programming & Planning Committee meeting. The agenda includes updates on timelines and space planning, a review of conceptual organizational models, and proposed conceptual organizational models. Colorado State University Online and the Colorado Community College System are working to create a digital badge ecosystem across higher education institutions and industry in Colorado. The ecosystem is intended to provide transparent, portable credentials for learners through competency-based micro-credentials. It began in 2013 in response to needs from industry for shorter training turnarounds and a more credentialed workforce. Early collaborations established principles of learner-focused, community-centered and industry-driven badges, and a structure was developed to connect competencies, curriculum maps and badge graphics. Pilot programs issued over 130 badges from 2014-2015. Efforts continue to expand industry recognition of badges and connect badges to credit-bearing pathways and degrees.

The document describes a typical day for a student named Jamie:
1) Jamie takes public transportation to campus early in the morning to study on the way. They arrive early for class and visit the writing center for help with a term paper.
2) After class, Jamie does research at the Auraria Library, getting coffee and a smoothie along the way. They work individually at the library until meeting with classmates to further develop a class project.
3) Jamie participates actively in class but notes potential technology issues. Furniture needs to accommodate wheelchair access. After class, Jamie takes public transportation home and goes straight to work with only an hour for lunch on campus.
This empathy map summarizes the experiences of two individuals - Jamie, a first generation part-time student, and Sherman B., an adjunct/full-time faculty member in his late 50s. For Jamie, the map describes feelings of being overwhelmed by the new college experience and wondering around campus trying to find resources like food and computer labs. For Sherman, it describes the challenges of getting around campus in a wheelchair, wishing for more opportunities for full-time positions and feeling the campus is not accessible and does not value adjunct faculty.

The goal is to implement the guidelines in all new construction and retrofit projects where feasible.
This document discusses furniture, technology, utilities, and hallway/adjacency needs for classroom renovations. For desks, movable and reconfigurable tables that allow group work are recommended. Chairs should also be movable. A minimal, movable podium is preferred. Outlets and wireless access should be provided in every classroom. Lighting, acoustics, climate control, and waste management should also be standardized. Cork flooring in hallways may look unprofessional; bamboo is suggested instead. Doors should be secure and lockable with standardized aesthetics. Storage is needed for mobile equipment and labs.
The document provides recommendations for furniture, tools and technology, utilities, hallways and adjacencies, and materials for classroom renovations. Key points include:
- Furniture should be movable and reconfigurable to allow for different classroom layouts. Desks should be narrow and tables without modesty panels to enable group work.
- A variety of teaching surfaces like whiteboards, blackboards, and projectors should be provided based on instructor preferences. Lecture recording and videoconferencing capabilities are desired.
- Reliable WiFi, adequate power outlets, climate control, and acoustical treatments are needed. Lighting and waste disposal options require further study.
- Hallways should have lockable storage
The document provides details on Phase 7A of a remodeling project at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. Phase 7A will renovate classrooms on the 4th floor west wing from May to August 2013. It will rightsize four classrooms to better match student enrollment and class sizes, add four new classrooms, replace old computer labs with mobile laptop options, and create an informal gathering space for students. An additional 496 square feet will be available for new or existing university programs.

GOLDEN GATE UNIVERSITY

MEETING TWO

EXPERIENCE DESIGN:
PERSONA DEVELOPMENT - continued from Kick-Off Meeting
During the kick-off meeting, MKThink came prepared with four personas that the steering
committee assisted us in further developing: a day student, a night student, a faculty/staff
member, and visitors. At that time, the committee recommended we add an international
student, an undergraduate student, and a prospective student. At the second meeting, the group
also recommended expanding the faculty/staff personas to include a full-time staff member, a
full-time faculty member, and a part-time adjunct professor.
The personas are intended to represent the full range of users found at GGU so that we can
properly develop the set of requirements that will guide the development of future signage,
whether digital or analog, and other components of the overall experience.
MEETING 2
ATTENDES:
MKThink: Chloe Lauer, Doug Humphreys, Liz Lessig
GGU: Scott Ciliberti, Greg Egertson, Barbrar Karlin
Meeting two’s presentation can be found at ggu.mkthinkstrategy.info. We reviewed the
Experience Design Guiding Principles for the first time, and those in attendance agreed that they
are correct. No edits were suggested.
With low attendence, we adjusted our plans for the second meeting and focused on developing
additional personas, based on the group’s suggestions. We are postponing the journey mapping
exercise until meeting three.

ZONES - Zones are larger areas held together by some commonality — this can range from a
department in GGU to an area of interaction.
Edges - are boundaries that separate one area from another — these can be physical edges such
as walls, doorways, and elevators, or they can be less defined edges that an individual may
perceive as a barrier.
LANDMARKS - are a point of reference — they are often physical structures such as a building,
sign, or geographic feature that allows the individual to better understand and navigate their built
environment.
