Female Condom
Definition >>>>>
 female condom a long polyurethane sheath that is inserted into the
vagina as a ; it has a flexible ring that fits over the cervix like a
diaphragm and another ring that extends outside the vagina.
http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/female+condom

 a birth control (contraceptive) device that acts as a barrier to keep
sperm from entering the uterus. The female condom is a soft,
loosefitting pouch with a ring on each end. One ring is inserted into the
vagina to hold the female condom in place. The ring at the open end of
the condom remains outside the vagina.

Female Condom
The Advantages of Female
Condom.
Using a female condom is safe, simple, and convenient.
Women and men like female condoms because female
condoms :
 allow women to share responsibility for preventing
infection
 are easy to get — can be purchased in drugstores and
some supermarkets
 can be inserted by a partner as part of sex play
 can be used by people who are allergic to latex
 can be used with oil-based as well as water-based
lubricants
 do not have an effect on a woman's natural hormones
 do not require a prescription
 may enhance sex play — the external ring may
stimulate the clitoris during vaginal intercourse
 stay in place whether or not a man maintains his
erection
Disadvantages of Female Condom.
Some women and men may not like the female condom
because it may
– cause irritation of the vagina, vulva, penis, or anus
– slip into the vagina during vaginal intercourse, or into
the anus during anal intercourse
– reduce feeling during intercourse
How to use it??
Diaphragm
Deffinition >>>>
• The diaphragm is a rubber cup, like a dish, that is
filled with a spermicidal gel or cream and inserted
into the vagina.
Diaphragm pictures>>>
How does it work??
Diaphragms work in two ways:
 The diaphragm blocks the opening to the uterus.
 The spermicide stops sperm from moving.
Advantages of Diaphragm>>>>
• The diaphragm has almost no health risks.
• The diaphragm is one of the best types of birth control
and it is as effective as the contraception pill.
• There is no interruption during sex because it can be
inserted up to 6 hours before intercourse.
Disadvantages of Diaphragm>>>>
• Some women may have mild allergic reactions to
rubber and spermicidal.
• Some women do not feel comfortable to insert objects
into their vagina.
How to Use Diaphragm??
Before having sexual intrecours >>>
1. Wash your hand.
2. Put about a tablespoon of
spermicide in the cup. Spread
some around the rim.
3. Find a comfortable position. You
can stand with one foot on a chair,
sit on the edge of a chair, lie down,
or squat.
4. Separate the lips of your vulva with
one hand. Pinch the rim of the
diaphragm to fold it in half with the
other hand.
5. Place your index finger in the
center of the fold for a firmer grip.
The spermicide must be inside the
fold.
6. Push the diaphragm as far up and
back in your vagina as possible.
Tuck the edge of the diaphragm
behind your pubic bone. Make sure
your cervix is covered.
How long do I leave the diaphragm in? What if I have sex
again?
The diaphragm must stay in place six hours after the last
time you had vaginal intercourse.
If have intercourse again, or if you have intercourse
more than six hours after you put the diaphragm in, leave the
diaphragm in place and insert more spermicide deep into your
vagina.

Do not leave the diaphragm in place for more than 24
hours.!!
After having sexual intrecourse >>>
1.

Wash your hand.

2. Hook a finger over the top of the rim

to break the suction.
3. Pull the diaphragm down and out.
How to take care of your diaphragm??
 If you take good care of your diaphragm, it may last about
two years. Taking care of the diaphragm is simple.
– After you remove the diaphragm, wash it with mild soap
and warm water.
– Allow it to air dry.
– Do not use any powders on the diaphragm — they can
cause infections.
– Do not use oil-based lubricants — such as Vaseline or
cold cream — with your diaphragm. They can damage
silicone.
 Be sure to examine the diaphragm regularly.
◊ You can look for small holes or weak spots by holding it up
to the light.
◊ If there is a hole or weak spot, light will shine through the
diaphragm.
◊ You can also fill the cup of the diaphragm with water and
look for leaks.
 Diaphragms can still be used if the silicone becomes
discolored. But if the silicone develops cracks or holes it has
become too thin.
 Stop using your diaphragm if you find that it has holes, weak
spots, cracks, or wrinkles.
