DEFINITION OF TERMS

*a group of one or more parents and their children
living together as a unit
• Community - group of people who are socially
interdependent, who participate together in
discussion and decision making, and who share
certain practices that both define the community
and are nurtured by it.
WORKING WITH FAMILY
• provide services to families in crisis that need help
fixing problems that interfere with family
harmony
• These bonds are important because family helps us
get through the most disastrous times and the
best times. Family is important because they can offer
support and security coupled with unconditional love;
they will always look to see and bring out the best in
you even if you cannot see it for yourself
FAMILY CENTERED
APPROACH
• Handling the major difficulties encountered by contemporary
families of which the individual is a member
• Family is the center of the field of action and the unit of interest.
• Social worker is concerned with the person in the environment
• The social worker who is involved in family centered practice
take on a variety of roles and many also need to work with other
systems that have influence on the family in order to achieve
their objectives. These other systems may include the school, the
hospital, as well as other systems that exert influence in the
family.
COMMUNITY ORGANIZING
• Community organizing is a method of engaging and
empowering people of a community and bringing
them together into an organization that acts in their
shared self-interest. The organizers are typically
people from the community or advocacy groups.
• The goal of community organizing is to generate
durable power for an organization representing the
community, allowing it to influence key decision-
makers on various issues. It also focuses on
distributing power more equally throughout the
community.
STEPS OF COMMUNITY
ORGANIZING
• Community Assessment
• Community outreach to listen to people
• Clarify your goals
• Frame Strategies for Action
• Build Local Leadership
• Mobilize People
THE SOCIAL WORKER ROLE AND
IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY
• People and their communities have the best
understanding of the required social services that may
remedy their day-to-day challenges. This is why a
holistic approach to the social worker role asks the
people how they want to shape their solutions.
• Social worker responsibility is to talk to communities
about their core challenges, ideate and provide
capacities to overcome these challenges and create a
route for sustainable financial growth and
independence.
TAKE AWAY……..
• Building human relationships, love, wellbeing
and human rights are the heart and soul of
the social worker role. In many countries, the
importance of social workers relies on
breaking a cycle of trauma and poverty by
encouraging individuals to transform their
environment through helpful social services
and support.
• Social workers’ efforts have the
capacity to transform lives at the
individual level while also creating a
ripple effect at the community-level,
to continue a wave of inspiration
and motivation for generations.
