The Hemis Festival is dedicated to Lord Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) venerated as the Dance

Maha Shivaratri is

MAHARASHTRA
Ganesh Chaturthi (also known
as Vināyaka Chaturthi, Gaṇēśa

of the elephant-headed god, Ganesha.
This is a very auspicious day celebrated
to pray to the god so that every new
activity that is started is successfully
completed without any obstacles (Vighna
= Obstacle).
UTTAR PRADESH
Kumbh Mela or Kumbha Mela is
a mass Hindu pilgrimage of faith in
which Hindus gather to bathe in a
sacred river. Traditionally, four fairs
are widely recognized as the

UTTARAKHAND
The Magh Mela is one of the greatest
annual religious affairs for Hindus. Hindu
mythology considers the origin of the
Magh Mela to be the beginning of the
Universe. An important occasion, the Magh
Mela is held every year on the banks of
Triveni Sangam (the confluence of the
three great rivers Ganga, Yamuna and
Saraswati) in Prayag near Allahabad

JHARKHAND
Sarhul is celebrated
during spring season and the Saal
trees get new flowers on their
branches. It is a worship of the
village deity who is considered to be
the protector of the tribes. People
sing and dance a lot when the new
flowers appear. The deities are
worshiped with saal flowers.

Pattadakal is a small town

Dussehra (Vijaya Dashami,

is marked on the 10th day of the
bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the
month of Ashvin (Ashwayuja),
according to the Hindu calendar.
BIHAR
Chhath is an ancient Hindu
Vedic festival dedicated to the
Hindu Sun God, Surya and
Chhathi Maiya. The Chhath
Puja is performed in order to
thank Surya for sustaining life
on earth and to request the
granting of certain wishes
ASSAM
The Bihus have been celebrated
in Assam since ancient times.
Each Bihu coincides with a
distinctive phase in the farming
calendar. The most important and
colourful of the
three Bihu festival is the Spring
festival "Bohag Bihu" or
Rongali Bihu celebrated in the
middle of April.
MADHYA PRADESH
Khajuraho dance festival, organised
by the Madhya Pradesh Kala Parishad,
is a one-week-long festival of classical
dances held annually against the
spectacular backdrop of the
magnificently lit Khajuraho temples
in Chhatarpur district of Madhya
Pradesh state in central India. The
Khajuraho Festival of Dance is
conducted every year of February from
the 20th to the 26th.
NAGALAND
The Hornbill festival is a
celebration held every year in
the first week of December, in
Nagaland, North-east India. It
is also called as the
'Festival of Festivals'.
KERALA
Onam (Malayalam) is a
festival celebrated in Kerala,
India. It is also the state
festival of Kerala with State
holidays on 4 days starting
from Onam Eve (Uthradom)
to the 3rd Onam Day.
MEGHALYA
Dance is central to the culture of Khasi
life, and a part of the rites of passage.
Dances are performed
in Shnong (village), a Raid (group of
villages), and a Hima (conglomeration
of Raids). Some festivals includes Ka
