4.  Face Recognition: FR is a Biometric Software
application for automatically verifying
person/individual from a digital image by comparing
with a stored database of faces.
 Two Phases:
› Training Phase : All the registered & authenticated persons
in the database are processed to obtain facial features.
› Testing Phase : Images of different persons are processed in
the same manner as in the training and there features are
compared with the database.

5.  Face Detection Methods:
› Knowledge Based :Encode the knowledge about face into
rules that express the relationship.
› Feature Based Method : This method use the features such
as color , edge & texture to locate faces.
› Template Matching method :It use patterns already stored.
› Appearance based methods : Unlike template matching
methods , patterns are learned by a training images to
recognize faces. 5

Skin color as well as other features, mostly PCA is robust algorithm
for face detection with KNN classifier to differentiate face vs. non-
face and also studied face recognition techniques for correctly
identifying face with various techniques , mostly face recognition
methods using skin color.
