We are primarily influenced by unconscious thinking below our awareness. Designers can subtly influence behaviors, decisions, attitudes, and emotions through "persuasive design". For example, signs and food layouts in campus cafeterias can nudge students toward healthier choices without mandates, addressing issues like childhood obesity and sustainability. Proposed nudges for one cafeteria include positive signs directing people to healthy food stations and tray areas that encourage wellness.
