2. Authors Background
K. T. Muhammed
-a famous Malayan playwrigth
-had scripted about 40 stage plays, including Idhu
Bhumiyanu (This is the Earth), considered to be his
masterpiece.
-born in Manjeri, India
-eldest son of a policeman and had very little formal education
-- worked as a clerk in the postal department.
-- worked in Chithrakarthika weekly
-- He started Sangamam Theatre a professional drama troup
--In 1952 he got the first prize in an all India short story
contest for his story Kannukal (Eyes) which was later
translated into many foreign languages.

Every on laughs at Abdullah because he is short…
Like
coal… =
with unproportioned
limbs.

4. with big round hollow eyes… a snub nose.. And a frog-like mouth
A narrow forehead…. And oversized ears..

5. That’s why he’s known to be an “ape man” or have
impressions of a “black monkey….
OR

6. His father died
Before he was born..
That’s why his only
consolation is his mother….

7. His mother wanted him to marry…
and everyone who knew
laughed…
who would ever love an ape man?

8. Even when he wore fine clothes… it did not
help…
and unfortunately…. His mother died..

9. But one day.. He met Leela, a blind beggar…
They became friends and visited him
frequently…

10. and eventually fell in love….
and people laughed..
But who cares… they got
married…

11. and everyone laughed louder…
BUT WHO CARES….?!
RIGHT??????!!!!Leela was Hindu…
He was Muslim,

12. Leela was soon going to be a mother…
Two months before giving birth, she felt ill…

13. Abdullah called a doctor to cure her…
As the doctor asked Abdullah if
his wife was blind since birth, he
said yes. And the doctor said that
she can still through operation…

14. Abdullah was furious… and
repeated what the doctor said…
He was afraid that Leela might not love him
of his looks…

15. So after Leela gave birth to a boy…
He said the doctor was dead, Leela grieved….

16. And she met an accident… and was badly
injured.
Leela cried… because she
desperately wanted to see
her husband’s face.
But her husband told her that
she doesn’t need to because
she had seen him with her
heart…

17. Abdullah realized what if his story might be if
he was blind…. Just like his wife.
