Ismael Villanueva Mallari was one of the
early Filipino writers in English. He was
primarily an essayist. He is ranked as the
leading literary and art critic in the Philippines.

He wrote widely and covered a broad range of
subjects. His books were usually published
under the name I.V. Mallari. "When I Was A
Little Boy", "Values", "Tales from the Mountain
Province", and "Footprints on the Sand" are
some of the books that he wrote

6. The Stranger
(A Summary)
It is a story about David
who is a transferee student
from San Fernando,
Pamapanga to Malabon.
Because he is new to the
barrio and could answer the
questions of their teacher,
many of his classmates do
not like him.
7. One time during recess,
he offered his classmates a
bunch of puto seco that his
grandmother had baked,
fortunately, his classmates
find them delicious. Since
then, his classmates started
approaching him nicely.
8. Time goes by and his
classmates got to know more
about David and befriended
him. They discovered that
David is a good swimmer and
so they decided to ride a
banca and go to dagat-
dagatan for a swim.
