INTRODUCTION: In this reflection paper, I will be discussing the R v Mann case.
In this case, the specific issue from that judgement I wish to address is whether race
is necessary to acknowledge in the dimensions regarding the police detention
practices. This reflection paper will first acknowledge how the Supreme Court of
Canada could have factored in raceinto its analysis in R v Mann. Next, the paper
will examine the case through the lens of the Critical Race Theory (CRT) and
cultural competence to help better understand the issue of race. I will then conclude
my paper with a brief discussion of the next steps to address where to go from here
regarding the issue of race.
REFLECTION:
This topic is of great interest to me because I was fortunate enough to grow up in a
community, surrounded by five First Nations reserves. I chose this case because in
my community, an RCMP officer pled guilty to assault causing bodily harm to an
Indigenous man and abandoning him 10 kilometres outside of town. Similar to the R
v Mann case, race was also neglected from the case in my community.
R v Mann established that a police officer must have reasonable grounds when
stopping and detaining a particular individual for investigation. However, I disagree
with the court failing to adequately address the racial dimensions as I believe the
Supreme Court of Canada could have used systematic racism to explain why the
officer reacted in such a manner into its analysis in this case. Race was prevalent to
the arrest of Mann because Mann was stopped based on the fact that he had matched
the race of the known suspect. Significantly, race was a dominant part of the
description, mostly since the clothing he was wearing was inconsistent with that part
of the suspect s description. Though, the problem is that given our history of overt
and systemic racism, race often unconsciously becomes the dominant part of the
description used by police. Whether or not the police officers are heavily relying on
their intuition, does not negate that those intuitions can be influenced or distorted by
unconscious racism.

While Martin Luther King Jr. was locked up in a jail he received a letter from eight
clergymen. They reached out to King in a letter that is called A Call for Unity. In
this letter, they are telling king that people needed to stand up and try to make a
change by peaceful protesting to get their point across ( A Call for Unity ). King
then replies to their letter with a letter of his own which is known as Letter from a
Birmingham Jail. King states that he gets a lot of letters and doesn t reply to them

Life, School And College Life From High School
College life is very different from High School. Longer classes in some cases
longer break periods, and trying to balance your life at work, school, and home can
be very overwhelming for most students, making it very important to have a schedule
and daily planner to better balance life at school and home.
Creating a schedule and managing my time for myself has been both surprisingly
easy and difficult. My mornings from Monday to Thursday are the same for me as it
was in High School. I would wake up at 6:20 am, get dressed, eat breakfast, walk to
the bus stop, wait, ride the bus to my High School, enter my school, and wait until

a ride to my uncle s house because he works near Pierce College and I ride with him

ABSTRACT
Hepatitis C virus remains one of the largest health care burdens to the world. It is one
of the most common communicable diseases in Australia.
Ledipasvir, Sofosuvbir, and their combination (trade name Harvoni) are Theapuetic
Goods Acts) approved drugs for the treatment of CHC infection. Ribavirin is another
drug used for treatment of CHC, and is employed in combination therapy.
This paper provides an overview on Hepatitis C: its epidemiology, pathophysiology,
diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. The literature review of the specific drug
treatments (Ledipasvir/Sofosbuvir and Ribavirin) including the mechanism of action,

BACKGROUND
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major issue in today s society. This flavivirus infection
was discovered in 1989, before which it was called a non A, non B hepatitis. The
world health organization (WHO) estimates that 3% of the world s population has
already been infected with HCV and there are almost 170 million carriers who are at
risk of developing HCV.
This disease can either be acute or chronic and the patient may remain asymptomatic,
thus remaining undiagnosed. However, chronic infection can cause liver failure or
cancer of the liver which could be fatal.1
The Chronic hepatitis C is a treatable infection and the complications associated with
liver functioning can be successfully treated by viral eradication. The aim of this
review is to study the epidemiological trends in the incidence of HCV infection in
Australia and also the safety and effectiveness of Ledipasvir and Sofosuvbir,
Ribavirin and Interferons in the treatment of HCV

Religious Conflicts in The Song of Roland
The French epic, The Song of Roland, relates the conflicts between Christians and
Muslims in 778 A.D. In it, Charlemagne and his men, weary in their seventh year of
battle against pagan forces in Spain, have captured every heathen stronghold but the
kingdom of Saragossa, held by the Muslim king Marsile. Terrified of the might of
Charlemagne s army, Marsile promises treasures, hostages and his conversion to
Christianity if the Frankswill go back to France. However, Marsile has no intention
of surrendering and wants only for Charlemagne to end his siege of the city and get
out of Spain. Charlemagne does not trust Marsile but nevertheless accepts the
proposal despite his nephew, Rolands, objections. Roland nominates his stepfather,
Ganelon, as a messenger to go back to Marsile s court. Ganelon initially protests
but is forced to accept the dangerous commission. He fears that he ll die in the
hands of the bloodthirsty pagans and publicly vows that, As long as I live, I shall
have no love for [Roland] (Song 39). Ganelon has long been jealous of Roland, and
on his diplomatic mission he finds an opportunity for revenge. Ganelon advises
Marsile that the only way to make Charlemagne leave Spain forever is to bring
about Roland s death. Roland is Charlemagne s right hand in warfare; without
Roland, the Frankish king would despair and could not hope to conquer Spain. In
collusion with Marsile, Ganelon plots his revenge: he will see to it that Roland is
given command of the rear
