One of the most important ways to get on the track to healthy living is to make sure you are exercising on a regular basis. It helps prevent disease, boost the immune system, and maintain a healthy weight. Along with these physical fitness benefits, the exercise can help well in maintaining and improving the mental health.

The importance of planning
How to Plan
Informed Planning – periodisation and LPAD & skills testing, 4 periods of planning
What a planned session should look like
These slides were presented to members of the general public in Kent, UK who attended a Health and Wellbeing Roadshow to promote the benefits of regular exercise on Wednesday 13th August 2014.
The Physiotherapy team from the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust delivered the presentation and are planning future events to promote healthy living.
Benefits of exercise are it affects on muscles, lungs, heart, brain, joints and bones. Exercise improves stamina and general health, and slows ageing effects
Exercise is the activity that results in contraction of skeletal muscle. The term is usually used in reference to any activity that promotes physical fitness. Although muscle contraction is the common element of all forms of exercise, many other organs and systems are affected, for example, the heart and lungs. Many people also find that regular exercise enhances their sense of mental well-being along with their general physical health. The importance of exercise in contributing to health is mentioned in this presentation.

The Wellbeing Journey is a development programme for building mental strength, resilience, health and happiness. It is an antidote to stress, anxiety, depression and low self confidence.
The Wellbeing Journey is inspired and informed by a highly successful two-year personal transformation programme we have co-led in Austria, Germany, Denmark and UK over the last nine years.
The Wellbeing Journey offers holistic pathways to self knowledge, health and happiness that start from the inside out. During the 10 month Journey participants learn pragmatic concepts, tools and practices that enable them to lead a more whole and balanced life.
This Journey comprises 10 one-day modules at monthly intervals. The time in between the modules is for practice and developing mastery. Participants are supported by an online learning community, a workbook journal to record insights and learnings, set goals and intentions and evaluate the benefits, and a buddy group.
AWC is a fun, engaging lifestyle program that helps foster a positive wellbeing culture within your organisation.
The program creatively targets the key issues facing workplaces today. It harnesses social dynamics and peer interaction to offer a program that will positively engage your organisation to influence healthy behaviours.
The core component is the 10 week challenge that focuses on daily decision making on key determinants of health which have a long term effect on the individual’s health outcome. The team environment encourages team work, competition and personal improvements constantly setting new targets and incentives to improve key aspects of health.
Organisations of all sizes can benefit from taking part in the Active Workplace Challenge which is the first program to specifically target all key modifiable behaviours: physical activity, nutrition, smoking, alcohol and stress.

New Directions in Targeted Therapeutic Approaches for Older Adults With Mantl...i3 Health
i3 Health is pleased to make the speaker slides from this activity available for use as a non-accredited self-study or teaching resource.
This slide deck presented by Dr. Kami Maddocks, Professor-Clinical in the Division of Hematology and
Associate Division Director for Ambulatory Operations
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.
Target Audience
Hematology/oncology fellows, attending faculty, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL).
Learning Objectives
1.) Identify clinical and biological prognostic factors that can guide treatment decision making for older adults with MCL
2.) Evaluate emerging data on targeted therapeutic approaches for treatment-naive and relapsed/refractory MCL and their applicability to older adults
3.) Assess mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for MCL and their implications for treatment selection

Acute scrotum is a general term referring to an emergency condition affecting the contents or the wall of the scrotum.
There are a number of conditions that present acutely, predominantly with pain and/or swelling
A careful and detailed history and examination, and in some cases, investigations allow differentiation between these diagnoses. A prompt diagnosis is essential as the patient may require urgent surgical intervention
Testicular torsion refers to twisting of the spermatic cord, causing ischaemia of the testicle.
Testicular torsion results from inadequate fixation of the testis to the tunica vaginalis producing ischemia from reduced arterial inflow and venous outflow obstruction.
The prevalence of testicular torsion in adult patients hospitalized with acute scrotal pain is approximately 25 to 50 percent

Exercise and Older People: A Community Practitioners Perspective
1. Exercise and Older People – A
Community Practitioners
Perspective
Sarah Jarvis – Founder of ReActive
@ReActiveUK
FB- ReActiveUK
www.reactiveuk.com
2. About ReActive
A specialized fitness company based in Cornwall founded in 2013 –
Self Funding
Mission - strives to secure an active independence and improved
quality of life for older people by implementing ReActive propriety
‘Ready STEADY Go!’ Programme.
Currently operating in 7 locations and have helped over 100
people to date… which includes local communities, support
groups, care and residential settings and day centres.
3. About Sarah – That’s me!!
Been in the health and fitness industry for over 7 years
Always had a great interest in exercise physiology and ageing
Trained at St Thomas hospital in London to qualify as a Level 4
Postural Stability Instructor with Laterlife Training – the best
training providers I have been with!!
Once qualified as a PSI, that’s when ReActive was founded.
My own main mission has always been ‘I want to make a difference’
– so that is what I am seeking to do!
4. The need for Older People to Participate
in Exercise
It is vital people keep themselves active and mobile throughout their life
To feel valued and involved in their own community
To educate them the importance of exercise for living a better quality of life
To reduce social exclusion
Make them feel happy and good in themselves
5. Implemented my propriety ‘Ready STEADY Go!’ Programme.
Focuses on improved mobility and the early intervention and
management of risk factors that lead to falls.
Goal is to allow individuals to engage in an active, healthy
community that they feel valued and involved in.
The 3 class programme consists of the ‘Ready, STEADY and Go!’
classes which gives people a choice, no matter what their age or
ability.
6. Ready Class – Predominately Residential and
Care Homes
7. STEADY Class – Community orientated, improve
Balance and Stability
8. Go! Class - A class suitable for the already active
50+ to maintain health and fitness
9. My Perspective so far
There is a great deal of people out there that
need this kind of service but are not accessing it
Needs to be more collaboration between services
– Physio -> Qualified Fitness Professional
My participants have made this their habit and
really look forward to seeing their friends as well
11. Barriers and Challenges
To keep remembering you are working with the older population and that
their health can suddenly deteriorate – this can have a knock on effect
with the whole class
Having a class full of people with varying conditions – everything has to
be adaptable and alternatives available.
The expectation - I am no miracle worker and falls unfortunately will still
happen
For the community to understand the importance of these exercises
Work with very fit retired people who still live a very active and social life
12. Positives
Meeting very determined and special people, who want the help
and support – they have all become part of my growing family
The changes in confidence and positive feedback
People can share their own experiences with each other
It allows them to put old age into perspective
Feeling more mobile, conditions becoming easier to deal with, low
mood raised, increase confidence ..... Vi
It is all about the small things and I have found that you have to
continually praise as they respond so well
Gathering data and trends can be established over time - only one
year in, turnover of participants
13. Exercise has
changed my
life!!
The advice and help
from Sarah getting
me back into exercise
have been invaluable
We found it as an
incentive to get
out of the house
and support each
other
Feedback…
We always feel
motivated and
energised afterwards
Another positive
outcome is some of us
have improved
spirometry results and
peak flow!
15. Many Thanks for listening and here is something to
leave you with….All journeys big or small in life start
somewhere….
