Examples Of Villains In Beowulf
Most people believe that villains are people who only do bad things, or are "a deliberate scoundrel
or criminal" (Merriam–Webster). What gives people this definition? Simple things such as Jafar
from Disney's "Aladdin", Ursula from "Little Mermaid", and Voldemort from Harry Potter. Yet, no
one stopped to think of the other definitions. Villains are not just criminals who do bad things. They
are "[People] who [are] blamed for a particular problem" or "particular evil" (Merriam–Webster). In
Beowulf, the three "villains" or monsters are Grendel, Grendel's Mother, and the Dragon. Each of
the monsters symbolize at least one sin. Grendel symbolizes jealousy (He pined for Hrothgar's
prosperity), Grendel's Mother symbolized anger and vengeance, and the Dragon represents greed.
When an antagonist such as Grendel from Beowulf projects these attributes, they are quickly ...

In Catholicism, anger is considered to be a deadly sin because it is "a desire for revenge" and is
based off of impulse (Catholic Exchange). In this time period, revenge led to violence. "In one
instance Beowulf's anger seemingly does not leave him when the battle is over This is when, after
killing Grendel's Mother, he decapitates the dead Grendel" (Puhvel 41).In the middle of the epic,
Grendel's Mother attacks the kingdom at night to avenge her son Grendel. She was so powerful that
"Her on slaught was less/only by as much as an amazon warrior's/strength is less than an armed
man's" (Beowulf 82–84). In a moment of terror, she had pounced on and taken one of the men back
with her to the fen along with Grendel's arm. When Beowulf heard about the attack, he was furious,
not because of Aeschere's fate, but because his trophy arm was stolen from him. When he killed
Grendel's Mother, he killed her not only because he had stolen a man, but rather it was because she
had wounded his reputation by stealing a man right under Beowulf's

The Female Villain : Lady Tremaine
Disney has been influencing society for a long time. As a young person growing up with Disney,
they look for identities that they can connect to. Females will look up to the princess and males will
look up to the prince. But, who looks up to the villain? A traditional female villain may be seen as
the antagonist to the male hero counterpart. They are important to the plot of the story, as they are
the ones who manipulate other characters with their evil and wicked ways. Some serious women
whom can act very scary, very serious and very evil have been cast as, female villains. The female
villain in Cinderella, Lady Tremaine, shows the exact characteristics of the traditional female villain.
Comparing the traditional characteristics and actions of a traditional villain to Lady Tremaine it will
be shown that even though she may be beautiful she is still the root of evil in Cinderella. By
comparing specific identities and characteristics of the traditional female villain and explaining how
lady Tremaine is presented and the way she acts, it will be shown that she follows only some of the
traditional villain attributes. Also, that she pushes to be her own individual female villain when
comparing her to traditional Disney villains.
There are many things that evil villains are categorized as to doing, but there has always been an
underlying reason for this. Often, the villain will have a hardship of their own, before they change
their ways to be evil. The Disney villain stereotypes

Chillin Like A Villain
Chillin' Like a Villain A villain is defined as an antagonist of a hero. Many times the villain's plans
threaten the safety of society. The villains embody dangerous evil that the hero must conquer to save
the day. Villains are what make movies interesting. They provide the power, the determination and
immorality audiences love to hate. In most zombie films, zombies are considered the villains. One
characteristic of a villain is that he/she is powerful. A great villain is powerful. Whether their power
comes from the supernatural or resources, a villain must have power in order to pose a danger. If
they don't portray danger, are they really a villain? Zombies display their power in numbers. In The
Walking Dead, the survivors have a difficult time fending off a large number of zombies rather than
a few. Using the power of numbers, the zombies are able to cause more damage. Another example is
in World War Z, the zombies not only use the power of traveling in packs, they also possess the

A characteristic that audiences love in villains is their determination. Even after the villain is
seemingly conquered, their ruthless determination brings them back again ready for another fight.
Zombies are the leading villains when it comes to determination. A zombie's only focus is to eat.
Their determination to find their next meal is so strong it seems to send them into a blind rage. In
The Walking Dead, when a zombie finds a human, they immediately fall into a feeding frenzy. The
zombies begin to chase after their prey and will attempt to conquer any obstacle in their way. In later
episodes of The Walking Dead, zombies are seen impaled into spikes, yet the zombies are still
fighting to reach their prey. Rick even encounters a zombie in a park that has deteriorated to nothing
more than a torso and arms. Despite her mangled body, she is still crawling the earth searching for
her next

Is Frieza A Better Villain
A villain is defined as "a cruelly malicious person who is involved in or devoted to wickedness or
crime." To determine who the better villain is; Frieza, an intergalactic villain known for taking over
planets with his followers and being one of the strongest beings in the universe or The Joker,
Batman's arch nemesis known for causing chaos throughout Gotham and having an ability to bring

The Role Of The Villain In Disney Movies
In every disney movie, there is always a villain. In the disney movie Sleeping Beauty, produced by
Walt Disney, the villain is Maleficent, and she is Aurora's evil godmother who wants revenge. In
The Little Mermaid produced by John Musker, the villain is Ursula, who is Ariel's evil aunt, and she
longs to be the ruler of the sea. The last villain is from the disney movie Hercules, produced by John

Is Miss Strangeworth A Villain?
TITLE A villain is a character whose evil actions are significant to the plot of the story. Miss
Strangeworth is a villain because this story revolves around her evil actions. She thinks she own the
town that she lives in which makes her unthoughtful. She is also selfish because she doesn't share
the roses planted on Pleasant Street. Finally, she is rude because of the anonymous letters she sends
to her neighbours. These three actions make her character appear very negative and unfavourable.
Firstly, Miss Strangeworth thinks she owns the town that she lives in. This is because her
grandfather built the first house on Pleasant Street and her grandmother planted the roses which
tourists are attracted to while visiting the town. The Strangeworth's

Is Hannibal A Hero Or A Villain
It seems that in recent years movie villains have been reduced to bland, superficial scare–machines.
The golden age of dynamic villains has come and gone, and action movies everywhere are all hype
and no substance. In contrast to modern horror films, the 1990s brought us some of the greatest
movie villains of all time. Villains who were uncomfortably relatable, undeniably cunning, and
extremely frightening all at the same time dominated the box office. Dr. Hannibal Lecter (played by
Anthony Hopkins) in the 1991 film directed by Jonathan Demme and adopted from a novel by
Thomas Harris, The Silence of the Lambs, is a perfect example of a sinister villain who is both
compelling and complex, and his performance set the standard for villains to ... Show more content

Hannibal's terror is derived from psychological manipulation and careful control rather than manic
outbursts. According to film critic Desmond Ryan, "...the true strength of Demme's movie lies in its
exploration of a place beyond physical revulsion – in the darkest corners of the souls of both the
hunters and the hunted" (Desmond). Hannibal outsmarts his audience, quietly taking pride in his
ability to scrutinize and exploit his opponents in order to get what he wants. Furthermore, the
juxtaposition between Hopkins' character and the skin–stealing serial murderer, Buffalo Bill, (played
by Ted Levine) is yet another element which enhances the malicious complexity of Hannibal,
making Bill seem like a mere "dime–store criminal" with his demented intentions and relative lack

Romeo And Juliet Villain Examples
What is a villain? Is a villain evil or bad actions that impact the plot, or is a villain a person with evil
motives? Throughout this essay I will be comparing whether or not there is one specific villain in
Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". Whether a villain is someone with actions that caused problem
without bad motivation, an evil or bad person, or someone with bad actions and poor motivation.
Friar John failed to deliver an important letter to Romeo explaining that Juliet in fact wasn't dead,
this lead to the death of Romeo and Juliet. Friar John didn't have bad motives, he just had
circumstances beyond his control. Another example is when the Nurse betrayed Juliet. The nurse
also didn't have bad motives, she was only trying to avoid bigger problems. "A character whose evil
actions or motives are important to the plot." Both of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example is capulet. Capulet forced Juliet to marry paris because he thought that it was best
for the family. Capulet and Mercutio are not villains, a villain is more than just a bad person or
negative pressure. "A dramatic or fictional character who is typically at odds with the hero." With a
villain also comes a hero, who is the hero in Romeo and Juliet? Is there a hero in Romeo and Juliet?
Someone with bad actions and poor motivation sounds more like a villain to me. Tybalt antagonizes
many throughout the play (including Mercutio). Though Tybalt did pick many fights and was the
main antagonistic character I do not think he should be classified as a villain. Tybalt was unaware
about Romeo and Juliet's relationship and was unintentionally trying to break them up. Generally in
movies with a very obvious villain, the villain knows the entire story, Tybalt, however did not. "A
cruelly and malicious person who is involved in or devoted to wickedness or crime,

Orual As A Villain
The role of a villain is central in the plot of many stories. However, an often overlooked aspect of
the villain is that they are not just evil. While some villains, particularly flat ones, may be purely
black or white, human villains are much more nuanced. Instead, the villains tend to be a shade of
grey, with justifications for their actions which could be determined by some to be reasonable.
Sometimes such a villain thinks that he or she is helping others. In Till We Have Faces by C.S.
Lewis, Orual is portrayed as a villain – as demonstrated by her inner and outward ugliness – because
of her treatment of others as a result of her selfishness, which Lewis uses to demonstrate to the
reader how selfishness prevents true love. The first of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As said by Redival, through the mouth of Tarin, "'[f]irst of all Orual loved me much; then the Fox
came and she loved me little; then the baby came and she loved me not at all'" (Lewis 289). This
neglect of her own sister after someone better comes along is evidence of her selfishness. If Orual
was not selfish, she would have still spent time with Redival. Orual had left her sister behind,
resulting in a disconnect and Redival feeling even more excluded and alone than Orual herself.
While Orual is innocent of doing this on purpose, it is still not something that a selfless person who
cares about those around her would do. Yet another part of this situation is the jealousy that Orual
feels towards Redival. For example, when the slaves were remarking on Redival's beautiful hair
being cut, Orual thought,"[t]hey had not said anything like that while I was being shorn" (Lewis 5).
Orual's jealousy of Redival allows Orual to shun her even more than she already had, because
Redival – in Orual's mind – would be beautiful either way. This beauty was thought by Orual to
outweigh anything else which makes her feel justified in neglecting Redival. By neglecting her,
Orual demonstrates her inner ugliness and shows a lack of love for

Joker Villain
To most people the joker is just a villain but to me he's the best villain. I believe he's the best
because he doesn't have a big suit of armor or any stupid super powers he's just a crazy goon with
guns and other goons who ride for him. the joker is a wicked looking villain, the way he dresses, the
way he paints his face, and his tattoos and scars on his body. its funny the way he takes care of his
business in situations, I guess its why he's called the joker.
the joker has a wicked appearance that makes people fear him because he looks like a maniac that

Villains in Hollywood Films Essay
Villains in Hollywood Films
Alfred Hitchcock once said "The better the villain, the better the film" and this year's Hollywood
filmmakers have abided by this golden rule as there was no stopping this year's summer
blockbusters from having a whole horde of villainous characters spreading their wings onto the big
screen, making the darker side more appealing for audiences. Everybody has gone villain this year,
from Tom Cruise to Halle Berry, from the not– so–friendly extra terrestrials in Alien Vs Predator to
Spiderman's sworn enemy Dr Octopus, played by Alfred Molina.

How Jaws devoured its way to being Hollywood's first summer blockbuster villain.
Over the years the villain has had to move with the times, but there was one villain created that
made history for he not only devoured his way, sweeping away other villains that were ruling over
the box office, but paved the term "summer movie blockbuster". That villain would be Jaws. Back in
1975 Jaws was a phenomenon upon release, but it was, first and foremost, an exemplary piece of
suspenseful storytelling by a young talented Steven Spielberg, who would later become Hollywood's
most commercial film director. Darth Vader in Star Wars, two years later, might have provided the
evolutionary conclusion of the summer movie villain as a multimedia marketing event – complete
with action figures in every toy shop – but it was Steven Spielberg's sea predator that proved to be a
quantum leap, marketing wise. Even the movie poster was deadly scary to look at: the image of a
female swimmer enjoying the sunny afternoon out at sea with the threatening primal beast in the
background became immediately a classic. So has John William's musical

Why are people villains? Is it because of past mistakes, how they were raised or maybe it's in there
blood to be a villain? The dictionary defines a villain as a character whose evil actions or motives
are important to the plot, but others may define a villain as evil and monstrous simply by examples
of the actions of the villain. Two characters are Odysseus, the most villainous in The Odyssey retold
by Robin Lister, and Ursula from the film: The Little mermaid directed by Ron Clements and John
Musker. When comparing these two villains, it is clear that Ursula is a much greater villain than
Odysseus because of her trickery, she's a liar, and a thief. Because The Odyssey retold by Robin

The Difference Between Heroes And Villains
Alsford, Mike. Heroes And Villains. Waco: Baylor UP, 2006. Print.
" The very heart of the notion of the villain is a refusal to submit to the social contract" (106).
The book distinguishes the difference between heroes and villains and what separates them from
each other. Heroes and villains are both gifted with powers that they have received either from a
spider bite or they are born with it or the possibility that they are from another planet, in other words
"Aliens". Heroes believe that they have received/born with super powers to help and save the
innocent. While on the other side, villains believe they have superpowers to help them change the
world they live in and make it their own. Societies impose rules and laws and expect all members of
the society to obey those rules, but that's not the case with villains. Super villains believe that rules
and laws don't apply to them because they are superior, strong and have abilities that ordinary
people don't have. Villain's aspiration is to live in a world that is made from his or her own set of
rules. Super villains have ambitions just like anyone else but most people believe what super villains
are admiring and trying to accomplish wrong while the villains believe its right in their mind. ...

Who Is Zeena A Villain
Upon reading Ethan Frome, it was difficult to immediately identify a character that caused the
majority of the conflict throughout the novel. After considering all of the story's main problems,
Zeena appeared to be the villain who caused most of them. She should be considered the most
villainous character due to the fact that she directly inhibits her husband's happiness on various
accounts, contributes to and indirectly encourages his destructive and rash decisions, and has the
stereotypical villainous attribute of an intimidating presence, even when she is physically elsewhere.
Without Zeena in his life, Ethan dfound himself in very different circumstances. She is the one
direct cause of him not pursuing his relationship with Mattie, not only because of their marriage and
the fact that she does not like Mattie and is constantly telling Ethan that she should be fired. While
this comes across as harsh and unjust, her point of view is understandable because no woman would
want to watch her husband cheat with their housekeeper that also happens to be her cousin.
However, she has a very strong personality that conveys that she allows no fun or happiness in her
presence, therefore directly contributing to her husband's depressed mood and lack of motivation.
The fact that she has this power over Ethan proves that her personality is that of a powerful villain.
Another quality Zeena possesses that proves her villain status is that she is constantly influencing

What really is a villain?
Villains have been alive forever, there is no way to easily detected them or stopping them. They
come in all shapes and sizes from animals to little children to even space aliens. Each villain has his

Just one thing before you call me a villain. Just please hear my side of the story. I built a whole

Billy Loomis and Stu Macher from Scream most definitely portray the characteristics of a villian.
First, Ghostface is a villain because he is merciless, even to the innocent. Poor Casey Becker was

Are Villains Good Or Bad
Throughout history, villains have been apart of every aspect of life. A villain can be seen in a
multitude of areas ranging from being a physically abusive person to a person that is very mentally
manipulative. Villains can also be seen in other areas from children's movies to real life scenarios.
But the most notorious villains are the ones society gets to see in some form of theater or film. A
good story or film often has some form of an obstacle to overcome in the version of a bad guy. And
although each villain has their own specific characteristics that makes them bad, there is a criteria or
checklist that each villain must meet prior to obtaining the label of a villain. Whether it is just one of

is shown when Sister Sainte–Christine abuses her physically and mentally, she turns the other nuns
against Suzanne, and breaks rules in the convent to cause harm to Suzanne.
It could be argued that Sister Sainte–Christine is not a villain because Suzanne provokes ... Show

She is technically breaking the law, and that is a huge sign of being a villain. Sister Sainte–Christine
yet again uses her authority to get what she wants. She breaks the rules by taking Suzanne's
belongings away, and when she orders Suzanne not to pray anymore. Suzanne writes to Marquis de
Croismare in disbelief, "Would you believe that they took away my breviary and forbade me to pray
to God?" (Diderot 60) One of the most villainous things that you can do to someone is to forbid
them of their beliefs or their culture, and that is exactly what Sister Sainte–Christine did.
Sister Sainte–Christine proves that she is a villain in many ways. She is the worst villain in The Nun
because she meets all of the criteria to be a villain and surpasses it. Sister Sainte–Christine is very
cruel toward Suzanne and punishes her for things that are not her fault. She takes the punishments to
the extreme until they begin to harm Suzanne. Sister Sainte–Christine is not worthy of her position
in the convent because she uses it to her advantage. She is by far the most villainous character in

Batman Is A Bad Villain
Ever watched a movie or read a book with the evil villain? You might have found yourself hating the
villain or even cheering the villain on. Villains are everywhere in fiction, you could never avoid it.
They create conflict for the protagonist and make the fictional story more interesting. There's many
famous examples of villains. My personal favorite are superhero''s villains. A perfect example of a
psychopathic evil villain is The Joker. The villain of the beloved Batman.
What is so special about The Joker? Well, his cruel actions and intelligence makes him the best
villain against Batman. He has been described as a "maniacal criminal mastermind" in the Dark
Knight movie. His sadistic sense of humor and creepy clown make up makes

Villains In Poe's The Cask Of Amontillado
Russell Crowe once said, "I like villains because there's something so attractive about a committed
person–they have a plan, an ideology, no matter how twisted. They're motivated." The villain's
commitment to follow through with their evil plan is what shapes the story's plot, which is why they
play a very important role in literature. In short stories, villains that are highly motivated and grim
creates the best plot that is short enough to keep the reader's attention but long enough to be
considered a well–developed story. The villains Montresor from Edgar Allen Poe's "The Cask of
Amontillado," and Madame Loisel from Guy de Maupassant's "The Necklace," are both greatly
villainous in their own ways, but General Zaroff from Richard Connell's ... Show more content on

Montresor killed his former friend, Fotunato, all because he was insulted. "The thousand injuries of
Fotunato (he) had borne as (he) best could, but when he ventured upon insult, (he) vowed revenge"
(Poe) by plotting Fortunato's death. He went too far when he decided to murder Fortunato, and was
probably a psychopath. Montresor lured his victim into the catacombs so that he would have no
chances of being saved, and really thought things through while plotting this. "There were no
attendants at home; they had absconded to make merry in honor of the time. I had told them that I
should not return until the morning, and had given them explicit orders not to stir from the house.
These orders were sufficient, I well knew, to insure their immediate disappearance, one and all, as
soon as my back was turned." (Poe). He put a lot of thought and effort into this plot, which shows
how determined he was to get his revenge. Montresor also mocked his victim by toasting too his
long life and by asking him if he wanted to leave when he was chained. "And I to your long life."
(Poe). He must not have much regard for human life if he mocked his victim. Although Montresor
killed a friend, he had a motive for doing it, unlike General

Villains In The Crucible
There is always conflict in a story. Without a villain, there is no reason for a character to change or
develop. Some examples of villains are Darth Vader from Star Wars, Lord Voldemort from Harry
Potter, and The Joker. These are commonly known villains from movies and books. They play an
important role in the plot, each with unique stories and actions. To start with, one popular villain
would be Darth Vader. He is a villain in the Star Wars series and is also known as Anakin
Skywalker. Initially a Jedi, a member of the Jedi Order who uses the power of the light side of the
Force for peace, he is thought to bring balance to the Force. But, Anakin falls towards the dark side
of the Force and says "From my point of view the Jedi are evil" (Lucas, McCallum). Vader seeks to

Bastard, a child born out of wedlock, an illegitimate descendant that "deserves to be slapped." Don
John, coined as "Shakespeare's most passive villain" is plagued by the society of Messina that

we can come to realize the roots of Don John's agitation arises from his illegitimacy, stacking him at
the bottom of the social hierarchy. Here he feels obliged to act the part of the villain, delegated by

He is desperate to rectify that and grab something for himself, and I like him for that. He has a

regard him with suspicion. With his villainy stemming from his rejection from society, it becomes
clear why he is treated as an outcast. He is degraded to just Don Pedro's illegitimate half brother,
sometimes referred to simply as "the Bastard." He is a clear stand out from the rest of the characters
due to his melancholy and pessimism, since as characters in a comedy are supposed to be
surrounded by a joyful atmosphere, he is the only character that brings darkness and sadness to the
play. Most of the other characters in the play prove outgoing, talkative, or at least social, and while
such chattiness leads to problems when other characters overhear secrets, Don John's silence
emerges as more disagreeable than willingness to divulge secrets. When Don John returns to
Messina with his brother, the governor Leonato addresses him with immense hesitation: "If you
swear, my Lord, you shall not be forsworn" Essentially, Leonato questions Don John's declaration of
loyalty to Don Pedro, and although Leonato covers his harsh greeting with a welcoming of Don
John, his doubts remain dormant under the surface of his kind words. Don John notices the
undercurrent of distrust directed towards him and responds, "I am not of many words, but I thank
you" Through his simple statement, Don John acknowledges society's perpetual distrust of him and
provides the audience with key insight into his character. In a powerful statement, Don John
confirms "I am trusted with a muzzle and enfranchised with a clog; therefore I have decreed not to
sing in my cage. If I had my mouth, I would bite; if I had my liberty, I would do my liking."Don
John recognizes that no one truly trusts him;

The Negligence Of The Villain
Just as it is mandatory to have a hero, a fairy tale without a villain will create an ineffective plot.
The negligence of the villain's role/importance demonstrates our society's ethics. The judgemental
views of society, creates an impression that good will always emerge as the victors. This is caused
by the fact that individuals within society has a different criteria of deciding what is "good" and
what is "evil". As a result their minds are structured through pure bias. The so called "heroes" or
"villains" are all just dependent on an individual's ideal self. The influence of the real world, through
history or the present, help individuals create a dividing line between the principles of good vs evil.
This is evident through the misinterpretation of villains. Individuals only see villains as vile
individuals endeavoring towards an egocentric goal, created by their malicious personality. The
treatment of this character is prejudice, as their stories are completely overshadowed by the hero's
beaming stature. If there isn't any background information for the villains, how does the audience
understand the meanings behind their motives and intentions? Villains are more than just an obstacle
created for the plot, they're the necessary ingredient for a successful story. The audience has to
realize that villains have many similar attributes to heroes that can benefit the outcome of the story.
Villains have the potential to revolutionize the next generation of fairy tales. By

Why Is Macbeth Considered A Villain
Who would you consider a villain? What characteristics would they have? In the play 'Macbeth' the
villain is Macbeth himself. Macbeth is a greedy, crazy, killer with a guilty conscience. Shakespeare's
development of Macbeth in 'Macbeth' as a villain supports the theme of power because Macbeth is
greedy, crazy, guilty and he is a killer.
Greed is the selfish desire for something. " The prince of Cumberland! That is a step on which I
must fall down, or else o'erleap, For in my may it lies" William Shakespeare (264, 48–50). Macbeth
shows his greed by becoming jealous of the Malcolm the king's son. He sees the prince as an
obstacle in his way of becoming king. Macbeth plans to eliminate that obstacle.

Now I'm sure you can come to see where the bitterness and spurn arose from, things he had no

Romeo And Juliet Villain Quotes
What is a villain in your eyes? Is it Lotso from Toy Story 3 or Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty? I
believe "villain" has a different meaning in different people mind. For instance, Romeo and Juliet. In
Romeo and Juliet I feel that Shakespeare presents the Capulets as the villains, for example, Sampson
and Gregory, Tybalt and Lady Capulet. I will explain this perception in greater detail in the
following paragraphs. Let's begin with, Lady Capulet, mother of Juliet does what she thinks is best
for her and her "family." She is forcing Juliet to marry Paris because it will increase her social rank.
Also, she is hungry for revenge on Romeo for killing Tybalt which she says in Act three, Scene five

Is Brutus A Hero Or A Villain
What is a villain? Is it a madman trying to take over the world or someone merely fighting for a

intentions, the villain is Brutus. He was loyal to Rome, oblivious to other's purposes, and he was
headstrong about his actions. In this play, all of Brutus's actions were out of the loyalty of Rome.
Although he loved Caesar, he loved Rome more. He decided that, for the love of Rome, killing
Caesar was the right thing to do. "Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more..."(47).

Villains Who Are Not Villains By Klosterman
Catwoman's Villainy In many cases, villains are perceived as bad people; the ones who break laws
and are dangerous to society. Based on their marvelous personality and attractive image, their
villainy isn't shown to society–it is blinded by their likable characteristics. In Klosterman's essay
"Villains Who Are Not Villains," he articulates the viewpoints society has on bad people who
express charisma and charm. He begins this essay by explaining why citizens who commit certain
crimes are sometimes not considered villains. Then, he goes on to explain why society doesn't view
drug dealers, con artists, and funk narcissists as villains. According to Klosterman, charisma and
charm can erase the stamp of villainy from a villainous person (Klosterman). ... Show more content

Movie Villain Research Paper
First off what does the term movie villain really stand for? The term villain, is pertaining to a
character or event whose evil actions are important to a plot. There are certain views of villains that
can be found in just about every movie. In this paper there will be a list of a few types of movie
villain categories, followed by the choosing of three, then they will be broken down into 3 sub
categories. Then two examples will be brought in each subcategory. Ending with the explanation of
how the villains reflect a characteristic of society today. In opening here are a few categories of
some villains in movies; there is the Beast, the Disturbed, the Criminal, the Equal, the Machine, the
Mastermind, and the Bully. The first category that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beasts can be broken down in a wide variety of views. Although the animal aspect of beast will be
the sub category that will be referenced. animals are covered in many movies as beasts, fluctuating
from animals as small and common as bats. To as big and an unusual as werewolves. An all–time
great movie with a extreme beast, is Jaws. Jaws is a movie about a killer white shark that terrorizes a
beach and the men that try to kill it. Here is a breakdown of an instance when you come across a
shark said by the boat captain Quint. "Sometimes that shark he looks right into ya. Right into your
eyes. And, you know, the thing about a shark... he's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes.
When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be living... until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over
white and then... ah then you hear that terrible high–pitched screaming". That is kind of a
frightening thought. Everyone is a little leery when they see a fin rising out of the water. The last
example of the animal villain is a bit on the unusual side, it was actually referanced in the example
of an unusual animal villain a little prior. The movie is the Wolfman, hinting at the villain in the title,
the villain is a man that turns into a wolf. I believe one of the most terrifying scenes is where he is
sitting in the asylum, tied to the chair. When a group of men of some authority are trying to exam
the villain under the full moon. You can see where Lawrence Talbert is trying to warn them and they
will not listen, then he screams "I will kill all of you!" when he is transforming into the petrifying
animal. These are both considered by many to be truly fearsome animals, and rightly so. While it is
a little hard to relate animal villains to common society, you can see many shark attacks on the news
and web. As for as werewolves or wolfmen go, there are stories about dark parts of the forest and
ultimately, the

The Villains of King Lear
The Villains of King Lear "A villain must be a thing of power, handled with delicacy and grace. He
must be wicked enough to excite our aversion, strong enough to arouse our fear, human enough to

nor with contempt, and the close of his career must be in harmony with all its previous
development." –Agnes Repplier What makes a villain a villain? Some people might say that it is

However, she does not provoke any form of sympathy in the reader and so is missing that vital
component that would make her more multi–dimensional and interesting. Goneril's younger sister
and the middle child of Lear's daughters, Regan, is very similar to her elder sister in many ways.
The first is that she readily lies to her father to convince him to give her half of his kingdom. "I am
made of that self mettle as my sister, and prize me at her worth. In my true heart I find she names
my very deed of love; Only she comes too short, that I profess Myself an enemy to all other joys

exception that her love extends beyond that of her sister's, she has what she wants from him, and
attempts to cast him out of her life in order to fully enjoy all that she has procured from him. The
only real difference between Regan and her older sister is the fact that she is less overt in her cruelty
to others. That is to say, she tends to have others do her dirty work for her. An example of this would
be when she urges the Duke of Cornwall to gouge out the both of

Based on his obsession with education and superior wit, he would have arguably been one of the

the field of science before turning to explore the dark world of alchemy (Hugo, pages 230–3).
"Claude Frollo, having in his youth gone over the entire circle of human knowledge, positive,
external, and lawful, was under the absolute necessity, unless he was to stop ubi defuit orbis, of
going farther afield in search of food for the insatiable appetite of his mind," (Hugo, page 233). This
begins to explain that Claude, having exhausted all of his possible resources in the search for new
learning opportunities, began to seek out a deeper meaning to life and science in the form of
alchemy. At one point he even went so far as to attempt to dig beneath the abandoned home of the
late Nicholas Flamel in the search for a philosopher's stone (Hugo, page 234–5). Claude's mind was
brilliant and insightful in the ways of the world. Unfortunately, his sharp senses would instead turn

Who is the Villain in the Frankenstein? Essay
Mary Shelley is the original playwright of 'Frankenstein' and it has been adapted since then by
Phillip Pullman. Mary wrote it in 1818 and it was first performed in 1988, at the Polka Children's
theatre in Wimbledon. In the play, a doctor called Victor Frankenstein created life from an
experiment, a monster, and although Frankenstein had intended the monster (who wasn't to be called
'the monster') to be a kind, caring and loving creature, the way the villagers treated him and turned
away in disgust when they saw the monster, was the reason that the monster became evil. The main
themes in 'Frankenstein' are the themes of Nature versus Nuture, in which we find out that the

In this play, there is not one clear villain as there are two main villains. These are Frankenstein and
the monster. I believe that both Frankenstein and the monster are the villains because the monster
kills the villagers and Frankenstein's family. Other people think that Frankenstein is the villain in
'Frankenstein' because he doesn't seem to care about his dying father and he is more passionate
about his work/ experiment of creating life. This is shown when Frankenstein says to Elizabeth
'Tomorrow! But–' (page 21) when Elizabeth tries to get Frankenstein back home to see his dying
father. This shows that Frankenstein doesn't really care about his family and anything/anyone other
than his closest friends and his experiment. Frankenstein also comes across as quite a violent person
as he hit his best friend Henri de Clerval over the head with a chair. We know this as the stage
directions state ' he starts forward as if to destroy it, but Frankenstein, seeing his intention, seizes a
chair and strikes Clerval with it from behind. The chair breaks–Clerval falls–stunned'. This shows
that although Frankenstein and Clerval are friends, Frankenstein is willing to attack to stop anyone
from disrupting his experiment. On the other hand, I believe that the monster is the villain because
although Frankenstein

Is Javert A Villain?
What is a villain? Is it a childhood bully, a strict teacher, an ex–boyfriend, or perhaps a soldier on
the other side of the trench? In the history of the world, nobody has done anything just because they
want to make the world worse. Yes, even Hitler thought he was doing the right thing when he was
murdering millions of people for characteristics they could not help but have. So, with this in mind,
why is Javert any different from us? In Victor Hugo's Les Misérables, Inspector Javert is the
antagonist of Jean Valjean, a selfless and beloved man; he is constantly seen obsessing over catching
Jean Valjean. But, do these aspects of Javert actually deem him evil? While Javert's views are

Clearly, in Les Misérables, the environment in which Javert was born and raised in, prison, gave him
the morals and beliefs he has as an adult. Growing up, he came to "think himself without the pale of
society, and despaired of ever entering it" (Hugo, 1862 100). His analysis of society was rather
restricted, he was only able to identify two types of people in society "those who attack it and those
who guard it" (100). Clearly, Javert grew up in an environment that taught him only black and white,
wrong and right. In a 'normal' or basically not a prison oriented childhood, like Enjolras and Marius'
childhoods, people learn to see in 50 shades of grey. He believes the law is the only right way
because the only other way in life for him is to live in the ways of criminals. Building off the idea of
nature versus nurture, a person cannot be villainous if they do not know any different. Javert does
not know compassion in a regular way, he was not raised in such a way. If he sees a crime, he acts.

they just know they need to throw up. Additionally, Inspector Javert is someone who "felt that he

Villains in Beowulf Symbolize Sins

  • 1. Examples Of Villains In Beowulf Most people believe that villains are people who only do bad things, or are "a deliberate scoundrel or criminal" (Merriam–Webster). What gives people this definition? Simple things such as Jafar from Disney's "Aladdin", Ursula from "Little Mermaid", and Voldemort from Harry Potter. Yet, no one stopped to think of the other definitions. Villains are not just criminals who do bad things. They are "[People] who [are] blamed for a particular problem" or "particular evil" (Merriam–Webster). In Beowulf, the three "villains" or monsters are Grendel, Grendel's Mother, and the Dragon. Each of the monsters symbolize at least one sin. Grendel symbolizes jealousy (He pined for Hrothgar's prosperity), Grendel's Mother symbolized anger and vengeance, and the Dragon represents greed. When an antagonist such as Grendel from Beowulf projects these attributes, they are quickly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Catholicism, anger is considered to be a deadly sin because it is "a desire for revenge" and is based off of impulse (Catholic Exchange). In this time period, revenge led to violence. "In one instance Beowulf's anger seemingly does not leave him when the battle is over This is when, after killing Grendel's Mother, he decapitates the dead Grendel" (Puhvel 41).In the middle of the epic, Grendel's Mother attacks the kingdom at night to avenge her son Grendel. She was so powerful that "Her on slaught was less/only by as much as an amazon warrior's/strength is less than an armed man's" (Beowulf 82–84). In a moment of terror, she had pounced on and taken one of the men back with her to the fen along with Grendel's arm. When Beowulf heard about the attack, he was furious, not because of Aeschere's fate, but because his trophy arm was stolen from him. When he killed Grendel's Mother, he killed her not only because he had stolen a man, but rather it was because she had wounded his reputation by stealing a man right under Beowulf's ... • 3. The Female Villain : Lady Tremaine Disney has been influencing society for a long time. As a young person growing up with Disney, they look for identities that they can connect to. Females will look up to the princess and males will look up to the prince. But, who looks up to the villain? A traditional female villain may be seen as the antagonist to the male hero counterpart. They are important to the plot of the story, as they are the ones who manipulate other characters with their evil and wicked ways. Some serious women whom can act very scary, very serious and very evil have been cast as, female villains. The female villain in Cinderella, Lady Tremaine, shows the exact characteristics of the traditional female villain. Comparing the traditional characteristics and actions of a traditional villain to Lady Tremaine it will be shown that even though she may be beautiful she is still the root of evil in Cinderella. By comparing specific identities and characteristics of the traditional female villain and explaining how lady Tremaine is presented and the way she acts, it will be shown that she follows only some of the traditional villain attributes. Also, that she pushes to be her own individual female villain when comparing her to traditional Disney villains. There are many things that evil villains are categorized as to doing, but there has always been an underlying reason for this. Often, the villain will have a hardship of their own, before they change their ways to be evil. The Disney villain stereotypes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Chillin Like A Villain Chillin' Like a Villain A villain is defined as an antagonist of a hero. Many times the villain's plans threaten the safety of society. The villains embody dangerous evil that the hero must conquer to save the day. Villains are what make movies interesting. They provide the power, the determination and immorality audiences love to hate. In most zombie films, zombies are considered the villains. One characteristic of a villain is that he/she is powerful. A great villain is powerful. Whether their power comes from the supernatural or resources, a villain must have power in order to pose a danger. If they don't portray danger, are they really a villain? Zombies display their power in numbers. In The Walking Dead, the survivors have a difficult time fending off a large number of zombies rather than a few. Using the power of numbers, the zombies are able to cause more damage. Another example is in World War Z, the zombies not only use the power of traveling in packs, they also possess the ability to sense ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A characteristic that audiences love in villains is their determination. Even after the villain is seemingly conquered, their ruthless determination brings them back again ready for another fight. Zombies are the leading villains when it comes to determination. A zombie's only focus is to eat. Their determination to find their next meal is so strong it seems to send them into a blind rage. In The Walking Dead, when a zombie finds a human, they immediately fall into a feeding frenzy. The zombies begin to chase after their prey and will attempt to conquer any obstacle in their way. In later episodes of The Walking Dead, zombies are seen impaled into spikes, yet the zombies are still fighting to reach their prey. Rick even encounters a zombie in a park that has deteriorated to nothing more than a torso and arms. Despite her mangled body, she is still crawling the earth searching for her next ... Miss Strangeworth is a villain because this story revolves around her evil actions. She thinks she own the town that she lives in which makes her unthoughtful. She is also selfish because she doesn't share the roses planted on Pleasant Street. Finally, she is rude because of the anonymous letters she sends to her neighbours. These three actions make her character appear very negative and unfavourable. Firstly, Miss Strangeworth thinks she owns the town that she lives in. • 13. Is Hannibal A Hero Or A Villain It seems that in recent years movie villains have been reduced to bland, superficial scare–machines. The golden age of dynamic villains has come and gone, and action movies everywhere are all hype and no substance. In contrast to modern horror films, the 1990s brought us some of the greatest movie villains of all time. Villains who were uncomfortably relatable, undeniably cunning, and extremely frightening all at the same time dominated the box office. Dr. Hannibal Lecter (played by Anthony Hopkins) in the 1991 film directed by Jonathan Demme and adopted from a novel by Thomas Harris, The Silence of the Lambs, is a perfect example of a sinister villain who is both compelling and complex, and his performance set the standard for villains to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hannibal's terror is derived from psychological manipulation and careful control rather than manic outbursts. According to film critic Desmond Ryan, "...the true strength of Demme's movie lies in its exploration of a place beyond physical revulsion – in the darkest corners of the souls of both the hunters and the hunted" (Desmond). Hannibal outsmarts his audience, quietly taking pride in his ability to scrutinize and exploit his opponents in order to get what he wants. Furthermore, the juxtaposition between Hopkins' character and the skin–stealing serial murderer, Buffalo Bill, (played by Ted Levine) is yet another element which enhances the malicious complexity of Hannibal, making Bill seem like a mere "dime–store criminal" with his demented intentions and relative lack of motive ... • 15. Romeo And Juliet Villain Examples What is a villain? Is a villain evil or bad actions that impact the plot, or is a villain a person with evil motives? Throughout this essay I will be comparing whether or not there is one specific villain in Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". Whether a villain is someone with actions that caused problem without bad motivation, an evil or bad person, or someone with bad actions and poor motivation. Friar John failed to deliver an important letter to Romeo explaining that Juliet in fact wasn't dead, this lead to the death of Romeo and Juliet. Friar John didn't have bad motives, he just had circumstances beyond his control. Another example is when the Nurse betrayed Juliet. The nurse also didn't have bad motives, she was only trying to avoid bigger problems. "A character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot." Both of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another example is capulet. Capulet forced Juliet to marry paris because he thought that it was best for the family. Capulet and Mercutio are not villains, a villain is more than just a bad person or negative pressure. "A dramatic or fictional character who is typically at odds with the hero." With a villain also comes a hero, who is the hero in Romeo and Juliet? Is there a hero in Romeo and Juliet? Someone with bad actions and poor motivation sounds more like a villain to me. Tybalt antagonizes many throughout the play (including Mercutio). Though Tybalt did pick many fights and was the main antagonistic character I do not think he should be classified as a villain. Tybalt was unaware about Romeo and Juliet's relationship and was unintentionally trying to break them up. Generally in movies with a very obvious villain, the villain knows the entire story, Tybalt, however did not. "A cruelly and malicious person who is involved in or devoted to wickedness or crime, ... • 17. Orual As A Villain The role of a villain is central in the plot of many stories. However, an often overlooked aspect of the villain is that they are not just evil. While some villains, particularly flat ones, may be purely black or white, human villains are much more nuanced. Instead, the villains tend to be a shade of grey, with justifications for their actions which could be determined by some to be reasonable. Sometimes such a villain thinks that he or she is helping others. In Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis, Orual is portrayed as a villain – as demonstrated by her inner and outward ugliness – because of her treatment of others as a result of her selfishness, which Lewis uses to demonstrate to the reader how selfishness prevents true love. The first of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As said by Redival, through the mouth of Tarin, "'[f]irst of all Orual loved me much; then the Fox came and she loved me little; then the baby came and she loved me not at all'" (Lewis 289). This neglect of her own sister after someone better comes along is evidence of her selfishness. If Orual was not selfish, she would have still spent time with Redival. Orual had left her sister behind, resulting in a disconnect and Redival feeling even more excluded and alone than Orual herself. While Orual is innocent of doing this on purpose, it is still not something that a selfless person who cares about those around her would do. Yet another part of this situation is the jealousy that Orual feels towards Redival. For example, when the slaves were remarking on Redival's beautiful hair being cut, Orual thought,"[t]hey had not said anything like that while I was being shorn" (Lewis 5). Orual's jealousy of Redival allows Orual to shun her even more than she already had, because Redival – in Orual's mind – would be beautiful either way. This beauty was thought by Orual to outweigh anything else which makes her feel justified in neglecting Redival. By neglecting her, Orual demonstrates her inner ugliness and shows a lack of love for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Over the years the villain has had to move with the times, but there was one villain created that made history for he not only devoured his way, sweeping away other villains that were ruling over the box office, but paved the term "summer movie blockbuster". That villain would be Jaws. Back in 1975 Jaws was a phenomenon upon release, but it was, first and foremost, an exemplary piece of suspenseful storytelling by a young talented Steven Spielberg, who would later become Hollywood's most commercial film director. Darth Vader in Star Wars, two years later, might have provided the evolutionary conclusion of the summer movie villain as a multimedia marketing event – complete with action figures in every toy shop – but it was Steven Spielberg's sea predator that proved to be a quantum leap, marketing wise. The dictionary defines a villain as a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot, but others may define a villain as evil and monstrous simply by examples of the actions of the villain. Two characters are Odysseus, the most villainous in The Odyssey retold by Robin Lister, and Ursula from the film: The Little mermaid directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. " The very heart of the notion of the villain is a refusal to submit to the social contract" (106). The book distinguishes the difference between heroes and villains and what separates them from each other. Heroes and villains are both gifted with powers that they have received either from a spider bite or they are born with it or the possibility that they are from another planet, in other words "Aliens". Heroes believe that they have received/born with super powers to help and save the innocent. While on the other side, villains believe they have superpowers to help them change the world they live in and make it their own. Societies impose rules and laws and expect all members of the society to obey those rules, but that's not the case with villains. Super villains believe that rules and laws don't apply to them because they are superior, strong and have abilities that ordinary people don't have. Villain's aspiration is to live in a world that is made from his or her own set of rules. Super villains have ambitions just like anyone else but most people believe what super villains are admiring and trying to accomplish wrong while the villains believe its right in their mind. ... After considering all of the story's main problems, Zeena appeared to be the villain who caused most of them. She should be considered the most villainous character due to the fact that she directly inhibits her husband's happiness on various accounts, contributes to and indirectly encourages his destructive and rash decisions, and has the stereotypical villainous attribute of an intimidating presence, even when she is physically elsewhere. Without Zeena in his life, Ethan dfound himself in very different circumstances. She is the one direct cause of him not pursuing his relationship with Mattie, not only because of their marriage and the fact that she does not like Mattie and is constantly telling Ethan that she should be fired. While this comes across as harsh and unjust, her point of view is understandable because no woman would want to watch her husband cheat with their housekeeper that also happens to be her cousin. However, she has a very strong personality that conveys that she allows no fun or happiness in her presence, therefore directly contributing to her husband's depressed mood and lack of motivation. The fact that she has this power over Ethan proves that her personality is that of a powerful villain. They come in all shapes and sizes from animals to little children to even space aliens. Each villain has his or her own particular style, usually greed. Another big reason for there evil acts is because of revenge, revenge can turn innocent people in to cold blooded killers. The term used to represent villains is antagonist, or someone who opposes the protagonist or hero of the story. One villains from biblical times is Dathan from The Ten Commandments, who is the sinister helper of the Pharaoh Ramses that tries to kill Moses. Out of all of the statements I have made I simply do not understand how this is evil. Just one thing before you call me a villain. Just please hear my side of the story. I built a whole world based on Coraline's interests. I don't know anybody else who would work that hard. A true villain would not do that. I made the house perfect for her, even her room. Every game I challenged Coraline to might have been dangerous. This is because this world was made for her interests. It is not my fault that Coraline loves dangerous things. I removed everything from this world that she did not like, including her parents. This may have been an evil act, but like I said, this world is hers. I can't blame her for not liking her parents. They create the conflict in the movie, without villains the superheroes wouldn't have any conflicts. Villains are supposed to be evil, but who's the best villain? In my opinion, The Joker is the best villain. One reason why I think The Joker is the best villain is because he has no superhuman powers. The Joker is just a normal human who has a different view of the world. The negligence of the villain's role/importance demonstrates our society's ethics. The judgemental views of society, creates an impression that good will always emerge as the victors. This is caused by the fact that individuals within society has a different criteria of deciding what is "good" and what is "evil". As a result their minds are structured through pure bias. The so called "heroes" or "villains" are all just dependent on an individual's ideal self. The influence of the real world, through history or the present, help individuals create a dividing line between the principles of good vs evil. This begins to explain that Claude, having exhausted all of his possible resources in the search for new learning opportunities, began to seek out a deeper meaning to life and science in the form of alchemy. At one point he even went so far as to attempt to dig beneath the abandoned home of the late Nicholas Flamel in the search for a philosopher's stone (Hugo, page 234–5). Claude's mind was brilliant and insightful in the ways of the world. Unfortunately, his sharp senses would instead turn to obsessive madness directed at the gypsy, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Who is the Villain in the Frankenstein? Essay Mary Shelley is the original playwright of 'Frankenstein' and it has been adapted since then by Phillip Pullman. Mary wrote it in 1818 and it was first performed in 1988, at the Polka Children's theatre in Wimbledon. In the play, a doctor called Victor Frankenstein created life from an experiment, a monster, and although Frankenstein had intended the monster (who wasn't to be called 'the monster') to be a kind, caring and loving creature, the way the villagers treated him and turned away in disgust when they saw the monster, was the reason that the monster became evil. The main themes in 'Frankenstein' are the themes of Nature versus Nuture, in which we find out that the monster was not intentionally villainous and that it was the way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this play, there is not one clear villain as there are two main villains. These are Frankenstein and the monster. I believe that both Frankenstein and the monster are the villains because the monster kills the villagers and Frankenstein's family. Other people think that Frankenstein is the villain in 'Frankenstein' because he doesn't seem to care about his dying father and he is more passionate about his work/ experiment of creating life. This is shown when Frankenstein says to Elizabeth 'Tomorrow! But–' (page 21) when Elizabeth tries to get Frankenstein back home to see his dying father. This shows that Frankenstein doesn't really care about his family and anything/anyone other than his closest friends and his experiment. Frankenstein also comes across as quite a violent person as he hit his best friend Henri de Clerval over the head with a chair. We know this as the stage directions state ' he starts forward as if to destroy it, but Frankenstein, seeing his intention, seizes a chair and strikes Clerval with it from behind. The chair breaks–Clerval falls–stunned'. This shows that although Frankenstein and Clerval are friends, Frankenstein is willing to attack to stop anyone from disrupting his experiment. On the other hand, I believe that the monster is the villain because although Frankenstein ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Is Javert A Villain? What is a villain? Is it a childhood bully, a strict teacher, an ex–boyfriend, or perhaps a soldier on the other side of the trench? In the history of the world, nobody has done anything just because they want to make the world worse. Yes, even Hitler thought he was doing the right thing when he was murdering millions of people for characteristics they could not help but have. So, with this in mind, why is Javert any different from us? In Victor Hugo's Les Misérables, Inspector Javert is the antagonist of Jean Valjean, a selfless and beloved man; he is constantly seen obsessing over catching Jean Valjean. But, do these aspects of Javert actually deem him evil? While Javert's views are narrow–minded and his treatment of Jean Valjean is cruel, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clearly, in Les Misérables, the environment in which Javert was born and raised in, prison, gave him the morals and beliefs he has as an adult. Growing up, he came to "think himself without the pale of society, and despaired of ever entering it" (Hugo, 1862 100). His analysis of society was rather restricted, he was only able to identify two types of people in society "those who attack it and those who guard it" (100). Clearly, Javert grew up in an environment that taught him only black and white, wrong and right. In a 'normal' or basically not a prison oriented childhood, like Enjolras and Marius' childhoods, people learn to see in 50 shades of grey. He believes the law is the only right way because the only other way in life for him is to live in the ways of criminals. Building off the idea of nature versus nurture, a person cannot be villainous if they do not know any different. Javert does not know compassion in a regular way, he was not raised in such a way. If he sees a crime, he acts. similar to how one cannot blame a cat for puking on their clothes; they do not know why it is wrong, they just know they need to throw up. Additionally, Inspector Javert is someone who "felt that he had an indescribable basis of rectitude, order, and honesty" (100). Javert has the characteristics for an understanding of human reasoning, which develops later on in the novel, but does not flourish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
