50% of marks come from your exam results
Exam
Three sections:
a) text response
b) writing in context
c) language analysis
3 hours and 15 minutes: 15 minute reading time
Text Response
You can choose to write on either Mabo or
Brooklyn.
There will be two essay questions for each text to
choose from.
Writing in context
One prompt for all students studying “Issues of
Identity and Belonging”.
You can choose to base your writing piece on
Summer of the Seventeenth Doll, Wild Cat Falling
or both texts (but choose one as the main
emphasis)
You DO NOT write a statement of explanation in
the exam, so connections to the text MUST be
evident in your piece.
Language Analysis
All students in the state analyse the same
material
May be a ‘single’ article analysis, or you may need
to compare pieces.
Typically involves some sort of visual element
that you need to analyse (eg: a graph or
photograph as part of the overall article)
Study Tips
Don’t bother studying the things that you already
know
Practice writing as many different pieces as you
can
Search the internet for practice exams
