This unit focuses on demonstrating specialist media production skills through collaborative projects, explaining the media production process, and discussing media industry issues. Students will work in groups to complete a media production, each taking on two specialist roles to research. They will create portfolio entries outlining tasks completed and evaluate the production process and their success in their roles. The unit also requires students to describe characteristics of Australian media organizations and the social and industrial context in which they operate.

Outcome 1
On completion of this unit the student should be able to demonstrate specialist
production skills within collaborative media productions, and explain and reflect on the
media production process.
Media industry production
Outcome 2
On completion of this unit the student should be able to discuss media industry issues
and developments relating to the production stages of a media product, and describe
specialist roles within the media industry.
Australian media organisations
Outcome 3
On completion of this unit the student should be able to describe characteristics of
Australian media organisations and discuss the social, cultural and industrial
framework within which such organisations operate.

5. The Production Process
(Outcomes 1 and 2)
The production of any Media Product has three stages:
✤ Pre Production: this involves the conception of ideas, developing of
ideas, planning of the product, organising the logistics of creation,
obtaining funding etc.
✤ Production: this involves the creation of the product.
✤ Post production: once a product is created, it needs to be edited and
disseminated to an audience.
