Writing a book review involves providing a brief summary of the book without spoilers, describing important aspects like theme, characters, and plot through examples from quotes, discussing what you liked about how the story was told, mentioning anything disliked, and rounding up your thoughts on the book.
Other readers will always be interested in your opinion of the books you've read. Whether you've loved the book or not, if you give your honest and detailed thoughts then people will find new books that are right for them. This guide will provide you information regarding the how to write a book review.
This is probably the best way to introduce any review because it gives context. But make sure to not go into too much detail or give any spoilers or revealing plot twists. Keep it short and concise.
Focus on various aspects of the books such as theme, characters, and plot, etc. Dedicate a paragraph to each of these important aspects, discussing how well the author dealt with it, along with what you enjoyed and what you didn’t enjoy.
Including quotes is always a great idea, because it gives examples for everything that you’re saying! But be careful: lengthy quotes can take up big chunks of space and overpower your review. Short quotes will usually get your points across while letting your work shine through.
You could try answering a couple of the following questions:
Who was your favorite character, and why.
Did the characters feel real to you.
Did the story keep you guessing.
Talk about why you think it didn't work for you. For example:
Did you wish the ending hadn't been a cliffhanger because you found it frustrating?
The conclusion should bring up the main points of your review, along with your overall opinion of the book.
