This document provides an introduction to technology and communication for a quarter-long course. It defines technology as applied science used to solve problems and extend human potential. The document discusses how technologies facilitate communication and how some key technologies throughout history, such as cave paintings, printing press, telegraph, and personal digital assistants, have changed communication. It also notes three implications of new digital technologies: the concept of scarcity is gone for shared digital content; distance is less important with global online networks; and time shifting allows asynchronous communication which impacts industries like TV and radio.
