HOW SUCCESSFUL WERE YOUR PRODUCTS?

I feel the products created have been very successful as
they were produced to a high standard with suitable
concepts of ‘structured-reality’ running throughout. We
received feedback of how the storylines were quite
gripping and our use of technology throughout had been
used effectively especially during the scene changes
with the use of music to create suitable transitions this
further more reiterating the success of our products due
                 to the positive responses.
WHAT GENRE WERE YOU WORKING IN AND HOW
WAS THIS APPARENT TO THE AUDIENCE?

Our genre was structured reality and to make
this apparent to our audience we included:
Establishing shots – these were used
throughout scene changes with the use of
a short musical interlude in order to
convey clearly the beginning of a new
                     scene.
Our website includes links to all of our cast
members twitter pages to show that they
are real people and do not have character
names to help portray the reality within the
  show
Introductory cast names – from our previous product
research we found that the cast were introduced by
text being displayed with their names at the beginning
of the scene, we decided to include this for two
reasons; one being that it was a conventional element
therefore helped display the genre simply yet
effectively, and the other reason being that with this
being a brand new show it may help the audience
remember who everyone is if they were to be
mentioned further on in the show.
Realistic storylines – As structured reality programs
revolve around real life situations we made sure our
scene subjects fell into the same categories, for
example relationships or partying, and kept this
theme running throughout the website with quick
polls relevant what had been seen on the program to
encourage audience involvement within the show
                   and the storylines.
HOW WELL DID YOU TARGET YOUR AUDIENCE?

From the audience feedback the vast majority was positive as we
kept clear themes running throughout the program and the
website. Also posting cast interviews onto the website
furthermore engaged our target audience as they were able to see
exclusive content which would not be shown in the regular show.
With our main target audience being aged 16-25 we found most of
them use social networking sites, which is why our inclusion of
twitter and Facebook pages helped target our audience more as
they were able to catch up with cast whenever they felt like it as
well as having the opportunity to interact with them directly. The
use of starting the show with an argument also helped target our
audience as they would want to wait to see how the situation was
                           to be resolved.
HOW MIGHT YOU APPLY YOUR IDEA TO A THIRD
  MEDIA PLATFORM
We could apply our idea to a third media platform such as text
through a variety of advertisements. For example billboards around
universities in the UK as our program focus’ on the lives of students
other students may also be interested in watching the lives of other
students. We could also include an article in a ‘gossip’ magazine for
example ‘heat’ or ‘closer’ which are generally known for previously
publishing stories in relation to other structured reality programs,
this would help to entice our audiences who are already
watching/reading about similar products into viewing our product
or browsing the website for even more information.
HOW WERE THE NARRATIVES CONSTRUCTED AND
WHAT PART DID THEY PLAY IN THE CREATION OF
MEANING AND EXPERIENCE IN YOUR PRODUCTS?
When creating our products we focused mainly on Todorovs narrative
structure as we intended on having an equilibrium, disruption,
recognition of disruption, attempt to repair and finally a new/return
equilibrium, this disruption could then firstly be shown within the
product then following this there could be a quick poll or
questionnaire on the website asking the audience there opinions
on the events of the show. We also included some key character
roles from Propps narrative structure as we had the princess the
hero and the villain, however when creating the product some of
the character roles were open to audience interpretation of who
they felt the hero or villain was as it may be changed throughout
the show due to different scenes focusing on particular cast
                                  members.
WHAT ISSUES OF REPRESENTATIONS DO THE
    PRODUCTIONS RAISE?
Within our program we do have some stereotypical representations,
for example Laura who is stuck in the middle of two boys and
having mixed feelings towards both which many people see as a
stereotypical ‘girl problem’. However when representing one of
our homosexual members of cast , Brad, we decided to show him
differently to other stereotypically homosexuals within the same
genre who may be seen with fake tan perfect teeth and always
with girls or gossiping, instead we are first introduced to Brad
with one of his male heterosexual friends discussing a party,
therefore it is not obvious of Brads sexuality in the show
however the website does confirm of Brads relationship status as
it does with every other cast members.
