The film’s genre was a hybrid of comedy and action /sci fi
so the challenge was to attract two types of target
audiences. It tried to appeal to a mainstream audience by
being a comedy but also had a core target youth
audience who like urban, gritty British films. The targetted
age of the viewers was 15-34 men and women of all classes,
Its media campaign targeted Nick Frost fans, comedy
fans, people who watch E4 and film fanatics. This very broad
but some what conflicting audiences were a challenge to
reach and may have led to the film’s lack of success at the
6.6
 Exhibition
 Screenings of trailers throughout films that would attract a similar
target audience.
 Posters outside/ cardboard cut-outs etc.
 Advertising in press- the sun and the news of the world.
 Making sure that the film was screened at an appropriate time
for the target audience.
 Screened at cinemas in and around city centres.
Different age groups and
Ethnic backgrounds which
appeal to a wider range of
Audiences.
The film attack the block is aimed at an audience aged around 15-25 years old. The reasons
For this is that a wider range of audiences and people who may know some of the actors
for example ‘Nick Frost’, he would appeal to a older age group but then a younger as of his
Characters he plays in the films he has stared in .People are bound to watch films with actors
They cant relate to. By having actors that you can relate to, this makes it easier for the viewers.
As ‘Attack The Block’ is a hybrid genre of sci-fi and comedy this film would be great as it would
be a good film to keep the audience entertained
This poster
appeals to the
target audience
because, without
having to watch
the trailer ,the
audience
already have a
hint of what the
film genre is. This
film would
appeal to sci-fi
and urban
comedy fans, ; ‘
inner space vs.
outer space’. By
combining two
genres together,
this widens the
target audience
which is an
advantage to
the film makers.
To show the genre of
the film, the poster
contains graphics of
meteors falling from the
sky, this suggests that
this movie is sci-fi based,
this means that people
who are fans of sci-will
be more interested in
this type of film.
The tagline also
suggests that this hybrid
genre is also a urban
comedy movie ‘inner
city’ , this again brings
out a different type of
audience especially to
teenagers.
The boys have been constructed
To appeal to their target
audience,
which is urban teenagers, firstly on
how they are dressed. The
reasons for the choice of clothing
is because
the teenagers nowadays can
relate which makes it more
interesting for them to watch.
Each actor has different postures,
‘Moses’ the main character (at
the front), looks more like a hero
and he is standing in front , in the
middle, this also suggests that he
is in control of what goes around
and what happens. Also their
different ethnicities are mixed, this
is an advantage as there will be
many more viewers that will be
able to relate. The props used for
the poster e.g. bikes, bats, swords
etc., this is shown as teenagers do
go on bikes and ride them
around estates etc., this is
another way of getting the
audience attentions.
The two older characters
‘Flaminia Cinque and Nick
Frost’ , they also relate to a
wider and older target
audience to grab their
attention. These two certain
Characters appeal to middle
classed working 20-20 year
old women , by using this
character it helps to gain their
attention.
By having a different range of
audiences in a film or poster ,
this helps with widening the
audience letting the
audience know that they
have people that they can
relate to and most likely to
find it more intriguing. The
male character in the film
charms to middle aged men ,
and fans , as people might be
able to relate to his films that
he has stared in.
Both of these characters,
using this helps to expand the
audience appealing outside
the key target audience.
This appeals to the
audience as is
shows and lets them
know where the film
is set, which viewers
like to know were
films are set as it
intrigues them. Also
for those who live in
London will be able
to relate to this as its
also set in a estate
in south London.
The poster allows the
audience to
recognize the
location of the film
due to the buildings
in the background.
The buildings of the
gherkin and tower 42
show that the film will
be set in London,
which establishes the
scene. the actual
block its self lets us no
that the main scenes
will be around the
council estate. This
will appeal to
audiences that like
urban/ city based
movies.
Promotional methods used on
the poster are at the bottom,
where it shows you the movies
Facebook address. This is
helpful for the viewers as it
allows them to go on it and
leave comments. This expands
the audience and viewers, as
a lot of teenagers and middle
aged people use these types
of social websites. By having a
page link also helps the
audiences as it gives them
more information about the
film . Which is making it more
likeable to the audience.
On the poster they included
“from the makers of ‘SHAUN
OF THE DEAD’, the reasons for
this is because, people who
are interested and have seen
Shaun of the dead and liked it
might be able to relate to this
film and also will enjoy it too.
‘Attack the Block’ as both
films were produced by the
same people, this is an
advantage to the audience
as if they have seen one of
the producers films and
enjoyed it , then they might
want to watch the new
releases, especially if there
are actor(s) they recognize
and like.
This twitter page has been created to
get audience feedback and allow
members and viewers/ fans to
comment. This also lets the company
update their viewers on new data and
questions asked.
They have used this page to
attract their target audience,
the reasons for using these two
types of social websites, is
because the target audience
(15-24, 25-35) , are likely to go
on these sites which makes it
more of an advantage for the
company.
The purpose of a film poster is to advertise an upcoming
movie/film, this lets the audience know that a new film is
due for release which will raise awareness. A film poster
provides a variety of information on a future film for
example; the name of the film, and the release date, the
BBFC rating, actors/actresses etc. which is important for
viewers and whilst advertising. This certain information
appeals to the audience. Actors/actresses also appeal to
The audience as there are a lot of actors that are known for
staring in good films . This helps a lot as There are people
that like specific actors. Photos and graphics of the poster
can suggest a particular genre and narrative that the film
will follow which is an insight to what the narrative of the film
is, so helping them decide if that’s a film they might be
interested in. Film posters can be seen in/on a variety of
places such as ; billboards. Subways. Online and bus tops.

Dardanas presentation attack the block

  • 1. The film’s genre was a hybrid of comedy and action /sci fi so the challenge was to attract two types of target audiences. It tried to appeal to a mainstream audience by being a comedy but also had a core target youth audience who like urban, gritty British films. The targetted age of the viewers was 15-34 men and women of all classes, Its media campaign targeted Nick Frost fans, comedy fans, people who watch E4 and film fanatics. This very broad but some what conflicting audiences were a challenge to reach and may have led to the film’s lack of success at the 6.6
  • 2.  Exhibition  Screenings of trailers throughout films that would attract a similar target audience.  Posters outside/ cardboard cut-outs etc.  Advertising in press- the sun and the news of the world.  Making sure that the film was screened at an appropriate time for the target audience.  Screened at cinemas in and around city centres.
  • 3. Different age groups and Ethnic backgrounds which appeal to a wider range of Audiences. The film attack the block is aimed at an audience aged around 15-25 years old. The reasons For this is that a wider range of audiences and people who may know some of the actors for example ‘Nick Frost’, he would appeal to a older age group but then a younger as of his Characters he plays in the films he has stared in .People are bound to watch films with actors They cant relate to. By having actors that you can relate to, this makes it easier for the viewers. As ‘Attack The Block’ is a hybrid genre of sci-fi and comedy this film would be great as it would be a good film to keep the audience entertained
  • 4. This poster appeals to the target audience because, without having to watch the trailer ,the audience already have a hint of what the film genre is. This film would appeal to sci-fi and urban comedy fans, ; ‘ inner space vs. outer space’. By combining two genres together, this widens the target audience which is an advantage to the film makers. To show the genre of the film, the poster contains graphics of meteors falling from the sky, this suggests that this movie is sci-fi based, this means that people who are fans of sci-will be more interested in this type of film. The tagline also suggests that this hybrid genre is also a urban comedy movie ‘inner city’ , this again brings out a different type of audience especially to teenagers.
  • 5. The boys have been constructed To appeal to their target audience, which is urban teenagers, firstly on how they are dressed. The reasons for the choice of clothing is because the teenagers nowadays can relate which makes it more interesting for them to watch. Each actor has different postures, ‘Moses’ the main character (at the front), looks more like a hero and he is standing in front , in the middle, this also suggests that he is in control of what goes around and what happens. Also their different ethnicities are mixed, this is an advantage as there will be many more viewers that will be able to relate. The props used for the poster e.g. bikes, bats, swords etc., this is shown as teenagers do go on bikes and ride them around estates etc., this is another way of getting the audience attentions. The two older characters ‘Flaminia Cinque and Nick Frost’ , they also relate to a wider and older target audience to grab their attention.
