The document summarizes the research and creative process undertaken by the student to create a film poster. The research included examining posters of similar films to identify genre conventions like grayscale imagery and use of red. Research also identified the target audience as older teenagers and adults. This informed the creative decisions made in the poster's design which featured an eye to represent blindness and used monochrome colors and symbols consistently with horror posters. The poster followed horror genre conventions but could be improved with better time management during the production process.
Keep Calm and React with Foresight: Strategies for Low-Latency and Energy-Eff...Tiziano De Matteis
This talk has been given at PPoPP 2016 (Barcelona)
The paper addresses the problem of designing control strategies for elastic stream processing applications. Elasticity allows applications to rapidly change their configuration (e.g. the number of used resources) on-the-fly, in response to fluctuations of their workload. In this work we face this problem by adopting the Model Predictive Control technique, a control-theoretic method aimed at finding the optimal application configuration along a limited prediction horizon by solving an online optimization problem. Our control strategies are designed to address latency constraints, by using Queueing Theory models, and energy consumption by changing the number of used cores and the CPU frequency through the Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS) function of modern multi-core CPUs. The proactive capabilities, in addition to the latency- and energy-awareness, represent the novel features of our approach. Experiments performed using a high-frequency trading application show the effectiveness compared with state-of-the-art techniques.

The cherry: beauty, softness, its heart-shaped plastic has inspired artists since Antiquity. Cherries and strawberries were considered the fruits of paradise and thus represented the souls of men.

Hadj Ounis's most notable work is his sculpture titled "Metamorphosis." This piece showcases Ounis's mastery of form and texture, as he seamlessly combines metal and wood to create a dynamic and visually striking composition. The juxtaposition of the two materials creates a sense of tension and harmony, inviting viewers to contemplate the relationship between nature and industry.

Evaluation Questions
How effective was your research into films with similar posters?
I think that my research was effective into films with similar posters because it gave me an
understanding of what I needed to do in order to create my poster. The research gave me
ideas of the codes and conventions that posters of the genre horror have. I gathered that
most horror movie posters traditionally have greyscale images with the colour red featuring
to represent blood and danger.
How effective was your research into relevant target audiences?
My research into relevant target audiences was effective because it gave me an idea of what
age range that fans of the horror movie genre fit into. The research told me that the age
range that fans of the horror movie genre fits between older teenagers to adults.
What did you learn from your research in these two areas?
I learned that the codes and conventions of horror films usually consist of dark/ greyscale
colours, symbols and the colour red connoting to blood and dark backgrounds to make the
main figure stand out. I also learned that the target audience for the horror genre fits
between older teenagers and adults.
In what ways did the research shape the creation of your film posters?
The research shaped the creation of my filmposters by knowing what code sand
conventions that horror film posters traditionally have. The research also shaped the
creation of my film posters by knowing the age range of the group I can create my film
posters to match the audience.
What creative decisions did you make at the different stages of film production?
The first creative decision that I made was figuring out what image I want to put on my
poster and what it connotes. The decision that I went with is a picture of an eye. This
represents the fact that the main character is blind. Another decision that I made was
figuring out a title that I could use for my film poster. The decision that I made with this is to
name my film ‘Seeing Is Believing’. This creates irony because the main character could not
possibly see anything that is around her. Another decision that I made was knowing what
colours my poster should be and what they connote. I decided to go with a monochromatic
colour scheme because it ties in with the horror genre.
What challenges did you face during the production of yourfilm?
The challenges that I faced during the production of my film were not knowing how to
present my poster to make it eye catching enough for people to want to watch it. I decided
to go with an eye with a strange figure showing in the pupil of the eye with a

monochromatic colour scheme. This represents the character believing that there is a spirit
lurking around but she is not able to see it.
How did your film poster change as your work progressed?
My filmposter changed as I progressed by changing the different types of font, the colour
scheme and background. I did this because I wanted make my film poster really tie in with
the genre of the film.
How closely does your film poster follow the forms and conventions of existing posters?
I would say that my filmposter follows the forms and conventions of existing posters quite
closely because it contains the standard features that horror filmposters have. This includes
dark colours and white, black background to emphasise the figure in the middle and
symbols that could represent death or danger in the film. I used the dark colours represent
mystery and the figure in the middle to represent what is going to happen in the film
How successful was your finished poster? What are its strengths and weaknesses?
I would say that my finished poster was really successful because it contained all the codes
and conventions that horror film posters traditionally have. The poster contains eye
catching features such as dark backgrounds, the colour white and mysterious figures. Its
weaknesses are that there are a lot of film posters out there featuring eyes.
How effective was your management of the production work? How could you improve it
in the future?
I would say that my time management for the production work wasn’t the best and in the
future I would make sure that everything is planned out better.
