The media product portrays middle/working class women, such as the main character Paige Anderson, as independent and able to care for themselves without relying on men. Paige is shown arriving home from work alone, dressed professionally, challenging typical media portrayals of submissive women dependent on men. By depicting Paige, an older independent woman living alone, as the protagonist rather than a teenager living at home, the storyline more effectively shows her as self-sufficient rather than vulnerable living alone without help.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our media product represents middle/working class women as independent and able
to look after themselves. This is evident through the main character Paige Anderson as
we see her arriving from work, home by herself carrying a handbag and dressed quite
formally in business attire. This subverts from the media’s typical interpretation of
females which would be that they are submissive and dependent on a male character
for everything. Because of this, our product subverts from the Feminine Mystique
which illustrates women as housewives and typical mothers.
Our decision to use someone older than a teen was made so that the audience see her
as and independent woman. Also it would be better as they would be able to realise
this through the fact that she lives by herself. For to be living by herself, it makes her
seem more like a victim as she has no-one to help her due to her seclusion in the
house. If we had used a teenager, our storyline would not have been as effective
because of the fact that a teenager would be living with their parents which would give
them that security.
