The document provides feedback comparing the student's skills used in a college magazine to a music magazine. It finds that the student's photography, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign skills improved significantly. Specifically, the student learnt to take higher quality photos, better edit images in Photoshop, structure layouts more effectively in Illustrator and InDesign, and improved their journalism skills through writing more for the music magazine. Examples of front covers, contents pages, and mastheads are shown to demonstrate the improved design quality in the later magazine.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. EVALUATION QUESTION 7
Looking back at your preliminary
task, what do you feel you have
learnt in the progression
From it to the full product?
2. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
HOW HAVE MY TECHINICAL SKILLS IN PHOTOSHOP, INDESIGN AND ILLUSTRATOR BEEN
IMPROVED?
(comparing the college magazine skills with the skills I have learnt in the music magazine)
You have significantly improved on the photography skills and using
Photoshop as you can see that clearly on both the front covers of the
magazines produced. Also using illustrator and iNDesign skills have improved a
lot through how you have learnt to structure the magazines, there is a clear
difference in quality.
More quality is the image now then before in the college mag there is a clear
difference on both how you took the shots and quality.
Definitely improved skills on INDESIGN as the layout improved so much in
the music magazine you had made.
3. COMPARING FRONT COVER COLLEGE MAG
AND MUSIC MAG
MY COLLEGE MAGAZINE
FRONT COVER
MY MUSIC MAGAZINE FRONT
COVER
4. COMPARING CONTENTS PAGES OF COLLEGE
MAG AND MUSIC MAG
Very simple contents layout with a lot of blank spaces
Not much work put into the actual design on the structure as
it is a simple column and row feel looking very compact.
should have made pictures more smaller and structuring
them more creatively.
The numbers are larger then they
should be, should have been slightly
smaller and a different colour. The
Grid effect is good though as its easy
to read for any age group.
Structure looks very creative
and abstract with the layering
of the contents and pictures
Clear colour scheme compared to the college mag which can be a
bit confusing.
Images working well stacked next to one another using up all the
space.
Font that looks exciting when you first look at the page.
5. COMPARING MAST HEADS
COLLEGE MAGAZINE MAST HEAD
The mast head is very simple and not a lot of work
has gone into it.
Using a very basic font that doesn’t really stick out
of the page
Colour choice was poor as the background image is
overpowering the mast head and not clear enough to
read.
MUSIC MAGAZINE MAST HEAD
Colour is really bright and stands out, use
of three colours working well together
creating a housestyle.
The bold font is easy to read and thick
enough to make out in the front cover.
Well structured and layered out with the
small text on top and still large enough to
read.
6. COMPARING PHOTOGRAPHY
Photography has improved so much with the quality of how I have taken the photo
compared to how I took the front cover shot for my college magazine.
Even though I used a DSLR camera in a photo studio as well the shoot angle and how I
told my model to pose for me has improved so much as well. Using the Black and white
and working with the levels on the camera ensured I took a picture highlighting her
definitions on her face, this is something I never even knew how to do back when I was
taking pictures for my college magazine. Also this final front cover image had a lot of
retouching and editing the face to achieve this flawless skin look which I slowly learnt
how to do better.
Photography for this college front cover was done
using a normal camera in the college streets. As you
can tell quality of the shot is not even half as good
as my music front cover shot of my model . Her face
is still blurry and not in full focus and also the black
and white background makes the model stand out
too much. Image of the model hasn’t been edited at
all with no retouching or Photoshop editing so it does
look very basic and you can still see some spots as
her face doesn’t look as flawless as it does for the
model in my music magazine. Having said all of that
I still feel with time given and the camera I used I still
produced a half decent shot in scale and a half body
shot which looks fairly decent as well.
7. SUMMARY
IMPROVED PHOTOSHOP SKILLS- I learnt how to properly edit the photos creating
a smooth image that looks effective. I learnt how to use levels, saturation and
density more in detail to create a more sharp and crisp finish to my photos. I learnt
how to use guild lines correctly to structure my texts and font in the correct order.
IMPROVED ILLUSTRATOR SKILLS- I improved on how to structure my layout of
large blocks of texts so they look more organised and easy to read. Also I improved
on learning how to convert vector shapes to individual edit letters to create detail or
make them larger.
IMPROVED JOURNALISM- In writing large amounts or journalism for this magazine
I was able to grasp how to write a good piece of detailed journalism. Also I learnt
how to answer questions effectively whilst writing a good piece of journalism.
As a result of using various technologies to present my work I am now equit to really
present my work in a more creative way rather then using the conventional word and
PowerPoint to show the information.
