The student has learned and improved their skills in Photoshop and InDesign from their preliminary magazine cover to the full music magazine product. Specifically, the student has learned how to add and blend multiple colors in Photoshop backgrounds, how to edit and crop images, and how to make covers look more professional. The student also found it easier to design the music magazine because they had examples to reference, and their use of Photoshop and layout in InDesign looks much more polished than the preliminary task.

1. Media Studies
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you
have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
I think that my skills using Photoshop and InDesign have improved a lot from
when I first made my student magazine. From looking at both of the front covers
it is evident that I have improved with my skills on Photoshop.
I have learnt how to add a background and how to blend in more than one
colour to make it look more creative. Another thing that I learnt this time round
how to edit and crop the background out an image, and when I did my
preliminary task I didn’t know how to do that which is why I just left the
background on the first image.
I found that it much easier to make the music magazine because it was
something that was realistic; we had examples of magazines that we could use
as blueprints. Also it was easier to know what we should put on the cover such
as barcode date, cover lines, issue etc. I think if you compare the use of
Photoshop in my preliminary task and my music magazine you can see that my
use of Photoshop has improved drastically, and the music magazine looks much
more professional and can see it in supermarket shelves.

2. Media Studies
To make both my preliminary task contents age and my music magazine
contents page I used InDesign, and with both of them I used a plain white
background. On the student magazine contents page it is mainly images
whereas the music magazine it is mainly text.
Compared to each other the music magazine contents page looks much more
professional, and actually looks like a contents page and fits the conventions of
one. On the preliminary task the images have just all been squashed on without
any consideration for space, and the text is covering one of the images
whereas the music magazine contents page looks much better.
On the preliminary task I haven’t made it look professional because I haven’t
used the same font on the mastheads, whereas on the music magazine I have
used the same house font throughout the front cover, and contents page, and
used the same colours throughout and haven’t done that in the preliminary
task.
