Evaluation Question 6 –
What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
CLAIRE MORGAN
The Camera
 I learnt a lot about the camera as I had never
used one properly before. I learnt to simply
record footage and put the camera on a tripod
to make the recordings more steady and more in
focus.
 Pros: could easily focus, making our footage look
more professional.
 Easy to transfer videos from the camera to the
mac which saved time.
 Holds lots of storage so could make as many
videos as were needed. If we made a mistake in
one piece of footage, it wasn’t that much of a
big deal.
 Cons: Short battery life- always needed charged,
which took a lot of time
 Quite heavy and a lot to take from place to
place so wasn’t that practical.
Mac Computer
 From using the Macs most lessons, I learnt a lot about
them and about the programmes installed on them.
 Pro: really fast, everything we needed was all on the
one computer (internet, final cut express)
 Easy to use once we’d used it a few times, made it
easier for us to get on with the work we needed to
do in time for deadlines.
 Cons: if you save something on one computer, you
can’t access it on another mac in the room. This
meant it was sometimes difficult to always get the
mac we needed.
 Didn’t have some programmes we needed (word,
PowerPoint). This meant that had to use a different
computer for those programmes, which took time.
Final Cut Express
 We used Final Cut Express to import and edit our
opening sequence. It is a very professional
programme and it took quite a lot of practise to get
used to how everything worked. I learnt how to edit
footage effectively and produce a quality opening
sequence.
 Pros: helped us produce an opening sequence that
looked almost professional
 There were different video filters, transitions, text and
sound for us to use to make the opening sequence
look as good as it could.
 Cons: very professional which made it difficult for us
to work. This meant it took a lot of time to figure out
how to use the programme.
 Everything had to be precise for our video to look
good. This took a lot of time to make everything look
professional.
Garage Band
 Garage band taught me how to produce music to fit
the genre of our film. The final piece of music had a
reasonably fast pace, but the different noises added
to the mysterious feeling of the opening.
 Pros: Came with already installed pieces of music.
This meant you didn’t have to be a musician to
produce a fairly good piece of music.
 Had an easy layout to get used to. This meant we
could easily layer different styles of music together to
produce the exact sounds that we wanted.
 Cons: Difficult to export music to Final Cut Express. It
took us a few attempts to figure out how to do it
correctly.
 Some of the already installed music did not fit the
genre the programme said it was under. This meant it
took a while for us to find a good ‘mysterious’ piece
of music
Blogger
 Blogger was used to upload every piece of work we
have completed in an interesting way. We also made it
match the theme of our opening sequence. The main
theme of our film is photography and therefore have
photos and a camera as the background. I learnt
different methods of uploading documents to our blog
and how to make a blog aesthetically pleasing.
 Pros: Everyone in our group can access and upload their
work. This means no one’s work can easily get lost or
taken.
 It’s got an easy way of navigating everyone’s work
through the use of labels. This then makes it easier to find
pieces of work instead of having to scroll all the way
through it.
 Cons: Can be quite confusing to work at the start
because you have to embed every single piece of work.
This can also take up quite a bit of time as you have to
upload the work to a different site before blogger.
Scribd
 Scribd was a website we used upload different
documents. We were then able to embed these
documents onto our blog very easily. From Scribd, I was
able to learn how to embed documents from it to
Blogger.
 Pros: Was easy to navigate. This meant we weren’t
wasting time on a website that we didn’t know how to
use.
 It was a nice way to make our blog look better. It meant
we weren’t just writing text posts onto the blog but
showed we were able to use different programmes to
make our blog look more interesting.
 Cons: You have to post the work publicly which meant
that anyone searching for work in the same category
could see the document.
 If you no longer wanted that document on Scribd and
deleted it, it would also delete from your blog (if you had
embedded it).
Prezi
 Prezi was used in a creative way to show information.
It’s a nice site to use as it is different and new.
(compared to Power Point).
 Pros: Had many layouts depending on what kind of
subject/work you were focussing on. This meant that
not every piece of work you uploaded looked the
same.
 Was easy to embed onto blogger.
 We could add music, photos, video clips and all sorts
to make it as interesting as possible. It also made it
easier to add as much information as we wanted
without running out of space.
 Cons: Can get quite confusing when it sometimes
zooms in and out of text boxes.
 Took quite a lot of time to get used to it and how to
do everything you wanted on there because of the
complexity of the website.
YouTube
 YouTube made it able for us to upload videos onto it
and then embed them onto our blog. We mostly used
YouTube for the audience expectations of our genre of
film and also audience feedback. We were able to
make our own group account and all upload our work
onto one channel, which was easier for us all to access
at school and also at home. Again, I was able to learn to
upload videos quickly and was then able to embed
them neatly onto our blog.
 Pros: so easy to use after you’ve uploaded something
once. This saves time the next time as you know what
you are doing.
 You can access YouTube anywhere. This meant we
could upload videos from the Macs and the Computers.
 Cons: Took a very long time to upload videos. This made
it difficult to get things done on time and meet
deadlines. We had to use Firefox to upload videos as it
somehow made it faster, however, you could only
access Firefox on certain computers.
What I have learnt overall..
 Overall, I have advanced my technological abilities by constantly using them. I have grown
more confident in using the Macs and Cameras etc. through practise.
 Specifically, I’ve learnt how to properly use a piece of software to edit and produce an
opening sequence. I’ve learnt how to use Garage band to make a piece of music to match
our genre and match the theme of our film.
 I have learnt how to overcome problems with the technologies, such as preparing the camera
before using it, to make sure it’s definitely charged properly. I’ve also learnt how to upload
videos properly onto YouTube using Firefox because it’s faster.
