The Fascinating World of Bats: Unveiling the Secrets of the Night
Bats, the mysterious creatures of the night, have long been a source of fascination and fear for humans. With their eerie squeaks and fluttering wings, they have captured our imagination and sparked our curiosity. Yet, beyond the myths and legends, bats are fascinating creatures that play a vital role in our ecosystem.
There are over 1,300 species of bats, ranging from the tiny Kitti's hog-nosed bat to the majestic flying foxes. These winged mammals are found in almost every corner of the globe, from the scorching deserts to the lush rainforests. Their diversity is a testament to their adaptability and resilience.
Bats are insectivores, feeding on a vast array of insects, from mosquitoes to beetles. A single bat can consume up to 1,200 insects in an hour, making them a crucial part of our pest control system. By preying on insects that damage crops, bats save the agricultural industry billions of dollars each year.
But bats are not just useful; they are also fascinating creatures. Their ability to fly in complete darkness, using echolocation to navigate and hunt, is a remarkable feat of evolution. They are also social animals, living in colonies and communicating with each other through a complex system of calls and body language.
Despite their importance, bats face numerous threats, from habitat destruction to climate change. Many species are endangered, and conservation efforts are necessary to protect these magnificent creatures.
In conclusion, bats are more than just creatures of the night; they are a vital part of our ecosystem, playing a crucial role in maintaining the balance of nature. By learning more about these fascinating animals, we can appreciate their importance and work to protect them for generations to come. So, let us embrace the beauty and mystery of bats, and celebrate their unique place in our world.

4. Adobe Photoshop
I experimented with different methods of
getting the band for my cover out of the
original image, and put them onto a blank I also learnt how to rearrange layers,
background. simply by dragging the layers into a
suitable order.
I ended up using the pen tool,
as it gave me an opportunity to
cut very precisely around the
subject.
I learnt to use the Brightness/contrast slider to make the
picture look better. To make it look more lifelike, or to
make it look more ‘stylish’.
5. Adobe InDesign
I’d had no experience with
InDesign before this, so
everything I did was newly
learnt.
I also learnt how to change the text
wrapping, i.e. how the text interacts
I learnt to lay the writing out into
with the photo itself. I needed for
columns, by making the columns first, and
the text to go around the picture
then importing the text from a word
when I moved the photo.
document, and It automatically took to
the column format.
Everything else that I did, I just needed to learn the
InDesign way of doing it, as it can be done on any
software. E.g. Making font bold, and changing the size.
6. Excel
• In excel I used previously learnt skills to create
graphs and charts from data I had from the
survey.
7. PowerPoint
• I have used power point to make
presentations similar to this one, to show my
work, mainly for evaluations.
Prezi
• I used Prezi in a similar way to PowerPoint, to
make presentations to upload to my blog. The
only difference is that Prezi is much more
dynamic than PowerPoint.
8. Jing
• I used jing again similarly to the other
presentation programs. Except Jing allows you
to screen record, so I recorded my screen and
spoke into the microphone, and that made it
easier to explain my intentions, rather than
typing.
9. Blogger
• Blogger has been my primary way of
publishing my work.
• I learnt different techniques to enhance the
technical aspect of the blog, e.g. embedding,
urls, images, videos etc.
11. Canon EOS 550d
The camera I used was the canon 550d, it is a high grade
DSLR camera and has 18 megapixels, do I knew my picture
would turn out good.
I set up a tripod in various places, that gave
the photo I was going for. I set up in the
studio in a position where I could get the
whole band in the shot. And for the cover
shot, I put the tripod on a raised platform,
so that I could get the effect of looking
down on the band.
