1. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
EVALUATION QUESTION 2
2. ETHNIC MINORITIES
In our thriller there are a variety of ethnic minorities that are
stared in the movie one example of this is the black character
partnered with the English character. This means there is a
good variety of minorities in this thriller which assists the
movie very well because it is set in a very urban environment
and typically in English urban environments there are many
minorities. This manages to bring an element of realism in our
thriller which shows our film follows the conventions of a
thriller.
3. GENDER REPRESENTATION
In my thriller the gender of the characters is presented as the males
being the most dominant with a more serious attitude towards life
whereas the women that is featured in the thriller is lonesome and
the only women character. This shows there is a male advantage
and dominance. Having males in the thriller bring across a strong
atmosphere which brings a sense of males being able to deal with
strong actions. Due to the subject of our movie it is quite fitting to the
story line. The women in the movie are presented as fairly weak
since the only women that is shown is shown as crying.
4. CLASS
For the subject of class in our thriller
there are no depictions of upper class
due to the simple fact that our movie
is set in a fairly poor urban are which
has a lot of violence around the area.
This results in our movie conforming
to the stereotype of the people who
live around violence think differently to
the upper class society.
5. AGE
In our thriller the average age of the actors are 16 with a 27
year old also involved which manages to work very well with
our thriller as there are many stereotypes that teenagers are
thugs and wild which really conforms to our movie. There is
a lot of action and a fair amount of danger that occurs which
is what stereotyped teenagers are used to. The criminal that
committed the crime happens to be a teenager which is full
of sense since the younger generations are regularly
portrayed as criminals whilst the adult that is included in the
thriller is shown as the victim.
6. CONCLUSION
The young individuals that are involved in our thriller are portrayed in a very
negative way of being careless and reckless and are the people that cause all the
problems that surround the streets and this manages to really conform to the
stereotype that people have about the younger generation hanging around the
streets. Many different stereotypes have been included into our thriller and one of
which is that the younger generation always dress in tracksuits or hooded attire to
hide their face as much as possible. In addition to this they cause a lot of danger
that is on the streets and that they do not have the trust of adults to be hanging
around on the streets. Some stereotypes are negative and positive in the sense
that some stereotypes manage to work fairly well with the thriller due to the fact that
it brings the thriller to life and makes it interesting. in addition it is negative due to
the fact that not all people that hang around on the streets are irrational and
dangerous.
