Q2 HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT REPRESENT
PARTICULAR SOCIAL
GROUPS?
My media product represents a particular social group through the ways I have written my article (use of
language) images I have used and the story of my article.
My media product is targeted to both males and females aged 16-20 years old. Keeping in
mind the age range of my targeted audiences I had made sure the methods I was using
would be appealing to them. So when taking photos in the studio, I had chosen models
from the same age range, I had told them to dress like a teenage but also modern and
clothes that were from high street store, the reason for this is because I was targeting my
media product to people of working to middle class but also the age range starts of at 16
were they would still be in school meaning that the majority of the people probably can’t
afford designer clothes. I had used models from different ethnic backgrounds so that my
magazine looked multi-ethnic.
Age range -16+ dressed like teenagers/modern, high street clothes
For the double page spread I had used a Q&A format with a story line of an artist who has
recently left rehab and started producing music again (a positive story.) The use of
language was simple easily read and understood as I was targeting my magazine to
young people, but even then I didn’t use any slang or urban language and I didn’t want to
use formal language leaving the reader confused or misunderstood . I had used a story
like this because I was targeting my media product to people of mostly working class from
areas such as east London, and I feel some may relate to the story.
I had planed to sell my media product at £2.50 as my audiences are young who are most
likely still in full time education, I personally can relate to this as I myself is still in school.
Having my media products genera as R&B/soul and pop, stereotypically I would have my
models wear clothes that would reinforce the idea however I didn’t want to seem
stereotypical by have them wear items such as chains or hats.
