1. HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION
OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND
ANCILLARY TEXTS?
2. THE ANCILLARY TASKS AND THE TEASER
TRAILER
The main thing I tried to keep consistent across all
the media platforms was the emphasis on colour
which helps to generate synergy across them. I did
this as I felt the role of colour was vital, in particular
the strips which identifies which team the character
and in turn whether the character is friend or foe to
the main character.
3. Here you can see
how the Red and
white colours are
shown in all media
platforms in turn
showing the audience
the “good” characters.
The
characters
in black
and white
are defined
as the
„villains‟
4. THE ANCILLARY TASKS AND THE TEASER
TRAILER
I also tried to maintain the Urban, social realism feel
across all media platforms, by using the same
graffiti style font for the title and setting both the
photos and the film in an urban environment. This
again helped to communicate the theme of the film
to make the texts more believable and help to
create synergy across all the media platforms.
5. THE FRONT COVER AND THE TEASER
TRAILER
For my poster I chose to just use the
main actor from my trailer as from my
research in to magazine front covers I
found that this is a typical convention
of film magazines. He is also the actor
most featured in the trailer so would be
easily recognised by anyone who had
seen the trailer before and therefore
becomes an iconic image associated
with the film‟s marketing. The actor‟s
mode of address is direct and his facial
expression is both moody and angry
which is again shown across all three
media texts as it helps to convey to the
audience the genre and mood of the
film. Although the character is not
wearing the same clothes he wore in
the trailer he is however still wearing
the scarf which still means there is the
colour synergy but allows audiences to
instantly tell whether the character is
good or bad in relation to the storyline
of the film. His age and clothing
suggest the target audience for the
film.
6. THE POSTER AND THE TEASER TRAILER
From my research into film posters
of the genre similar to my own, I
found that it was a typical
convention to have the majority of
the main cast included on the
poster. I again tried to create
synergy between the trailer and my
Film Poster. The actors used in the
trailer all appear in the film poster
again making them recognisable to
audiences that have already seen
the trailer. The importance of the
characters seen in the trailer is also
seen through the poster with the
main character positioned to the
middle of the poster then the two
“sidekick” characters positioned
either side of him. The direct mode
of address is maintained across the
print texts establishing a link with
the audience.
7. CONCLUSION
Overall I feel my magazine front cover, poster and
teaser trailer succeed in both engaging the
audience and promoting the film which is the main
purpose of the task. I also feel I successfully
created synergy across both my ancillary tasks
which I feel is vital when trying to make a product
successful.
