This document compares and contrasts interrogation scenes from three films: Auxilium, Nightcrawler, and The Fall. It analyzes similarities and differences in location, lighting, shots, facial expressions, shot duration, pace, and effects. The interrogation scenes from all three films take place in similar settings - interrogation rooms. However, Nightcrawler has darker, blue-toned lighting compared to the more realistic lighting in Auxilium. Both Auxilium and The Fall emphasize the changing emotions of characters through close-ups that show facial expressions. While shot duration, pace, and lack of effects are generally similar, The Fall speeds up more towards the end of the scene during a violent confrontation between the character and inspector.

AUXILIUM
• The crime/thriller sequence. Telling a
story of a innocent man, who was
accused for three women murder and
sent to jail due to corrupted women
inspector.
NIGHTCRAWLER
• American thriller, released in 2014. A
common theme in the film is the
symbiotic relationship between
unethical journalism and consumer
demand.

3. COMPARISON
THE LOCATION IN THESE MOVIES ARE SIMILAR. IT TOOK PL ACE IN
INTERROGATION ROOM. THIS MID SHOT IS USED IN BOTH OF THE
THRILLERS TO INTRODUCE CHARACTERS AND TO SHOW THE LOCATION.
THE SETTINGS IN NIGHTCRAWLER ARE SAME, HOWEVER THE LIGHTING IS
FERLY DIFFERENT. IT IS DARKER AND HAS BLUE COLORED TONE. IT IS A
CONNOTATION OF DARKNESS AND COLD. IN OUR THRILLER WE DID NOT
USE ANY SPECIAL LIGHTING EFFECTS TO MAKE IT LOOK MORE REALISTIC
AND NATURAL.

4. SHOTS
In Nightcrawler interrogation
scene a major part of shots
used are the same as in
Auxilium. During a
conversation we used a lot of
shot to shot cutting. Also we
used an over the shoulder
shots. Because in this scene
particularly the reactions of
person, to what they are
told, is very important.

5. AUXILIUM VS THE FALL
THE FALL
The Fall is a British-Irish crime drama
television series. In this series there is a
scene in which main character is
interviewed by an inspector and get
angry. He beats an inspector and get
carried out by two other policemen.
This scene is very similar to opening
sequence of my thriller. It has same
characters, setting, location and actions.

6. FACIAL EXPRESSIONS OF MAIN
CHARACTER IN AUXILIUM ARE
EMPHASIZED BY USING A CLOSE UP OF
FACE. THIS SHOTS MAKE IT EASIER TO
SEE THE CHANGE IN THE EMOTIONAL
STATE OF THE CHARACTER. IT IS SEEN
THAT CHARACTERS MOVEMENTS
CLAIM DIFFERENT EMOTIONS IN
EVERY SHOT. FIRSTLY HE IS FED TO
THE TEETH, AFTERWARDS HE STARTS
TO WORRY MORE AND AT THE END HE
GETS ANGRY.

7. IN THE FALL MAIN
CHARACTERS EMOTIONS
ARE ALSO SHOWED BY
FILMING CLOSE UPS OF
HIM. THE FACIAL
EXPRESSIONS DIFFER IN
THE SAME WAY AS IN THE
AUXILIUM. MAIN
CHARACTER IS GETTING
ANGRY GRADUALLY.

8. The ending of this scenes are
also similar. The character can
not control their emotions and
tries to attack inspector. Other
policemen take the criminal out
of the room.
However, as well as similarities
there are some differences in this
ending. Firstly, in The Fall there
is more policemen. Also the
criminal tries actually to defend
him self. In addition, at the
scene before that, character from
The Fall beats up a woman
inspector. All this actions were
used to show that this character
could actually commit a crime.
The reason why in Auxilium we
did not used that fight scene is
that we tried to show that our
male character is actually
innocent.

9. AUXILIUM VS THE FALL
AND NIGHTCRAWLER

10. SHOT DURATIONIn Auxilium opening scene during the conversation every shot lasts approximately for 4-7 seconds.
The length also depends. on the length of sentences the character is saying. The two last scenes
there main character stands up fastly, the shot duration is longer to make audience recognize his
emotions during that action. Also the last shot of the inspector is lasting longer the reason for that
was to show that she is calm and not effected by the unexpected criminals behavior. It emphasizes
that she is more powerful and wins this scene.
Shot duration in The Fall is exactly the same as in Auxilium. Only in the ending it gets shorter. It is
reduced from 6sec to approximately 1-2 sec. It was used for action part, to show the speed of the
fighting scene.
In contrast to The Fall and Auxilium, Nightcrawler interrogation scene has longer shots. Every shot
lasts for 6-12 seconds.

11. PACE AND EFFECTS
In Auxilium and Nightcrawler the pace is slow and do not change over the scene. The
slow pace is needed to make audience concentrate on what characters are saying not
what they are doing. In these scene it is important because not much action are
included there. However, in The Fall interrogation scene the pace is changing over the
time. It starts the same as in Auxilium but gets faster as the criminal gets annoyed, when
he attacks inspector the pace is extremely fast. It was used to show how impulsive
character is. In my thriller we did not do it because it would doubt that male character is
innocent.
In all of the three interview scenes there is no transitions or any effects.
