While the narrative challenges some traditional theories, it follows others and aims to frighten its target younger audience as intended.
The document summarizes the representation of social groups in a student-produced horror film opening. It discusses the representation of gender, with the main character being female which goes against genre conventions. It also discusses the representation of age, with the main character being a young girl to make her more relatable to their target younger audience. Finally, it briefly discusses that the film did not explore representations of ethnicity, class, sexuality or disability since the character and setting did not call for those explorations and remained focused on the plot.
The document summarizes a proposed 2 minute horror/thriller film opening. It will tell the story of a child who is woken up by strange noises in the night. When they investigate, they cannot find the source of the noise. They call for their mother, but discover her bedroom is empty. A voice impersonating their mother calls from downstairs, pursuing the child and increasing the tension and suspense. The target audience is 15 and older. It will use common horror conventions like dark lighting, slow pacing and a cliffhanger ending to intrigue audiences. The film will be set primarily in the house at night to create an eerie atmosphere.

Costumes and makeup with red, black, and grey colors will be incorporated based on the most popular colors selected.
The document discusses how media theory influenced the development of a trailer for a supernatural film. It summarizes that the trailer uses Todorov's narrative theory of equilibrium disruption and realization to tell the story of a woman whose anxieties worsen after taking illegal medication. Binary oppositions of known vs unknown and darkness vs light are also used. The trailer sticks to horror genre conventions like an isolated forest setting and uses sound to create suspense. It features both a female villain and false victim based on Jeremy Tunstall's character roles. Mulvey's male gaze theory is applied using point-of-view shots to objectify female characters and broaden the male audience. The target audience is under 25s of both genders, with females
The document provides an analysis of the film trailer for "Attack the Block". It summarizes that the film, directed by Joe Cornish, follows members of a teenage street gang in South London who must defend themselves from hostile alien invaders on Bonfire Night. The document discusses how the filmmakers addressed their target audience in the opening sequence of their horror film. They chose to partner with Blumhouse Productions as their distributor because Blumhouse specializes in similar horror films that already have an established audience. Using a child as the first antagonist was meant to intrigue audiences by subverting expectations, as was including chase scenes shot with handheld cameras to create tension. The film spans different eras to allow modern audiences to relate to characters and settings. A female antagonist challenges gender stereotypes and makes the film stand out from most horror films that feature male antagonists.
1) The document discusses the target audience and research done for a student horror/thriller film opening sequence.
2) The target audience is males and females aged 12 and above, as the film contains mild horror elements but no disturbing content.
3) Research included understanding BBFC film classification guidelines and surveying the target age range about their horror film expectations. Suggestions from the survey like scary music, characters, and lighting were incorporated into the final production.
The media product evaluates how it uses and challenges horror genre conventions. It uses common conventions like having the antagonist relate to an object (an old book) and includes point-of-view shots to build tension. It also follows conventions for text placement, showing the title at the end and cast/crew names at the start. One challenge was having a male protagonist rather than the typical female. While it aimed to develop music conventions, it ultimately relied on dramatic instrumental music typical of the genre.
The document discusses conventions used in the teaser trailer for a student film project. It summarizes the time/location, ident, title sequence, camerawork, editing, application of character functions from Vladimir Propp's work, and equilibrium structure from Tzvetan Todorov used in the teaser trailer. Key elements included shooting during the day instead of night due to filming constraints, using identifiable college locations, following typical ident layouts, including a voiceover to provide context, and establishing the hero's goal and villain's opposition through Propp's character functions.

This document discusses how the student's horror trailer media product was inspired by and develops conventions from real horror trailers such as The Blair Witch Project, The Woman in Black, and Paranormal Activity. It analyzed aspects of found footage technique, storylines, editing, and poster design conventions from these films. While taking inspiration from realistic found footage styles, it aims to challenge conventions of more mainstream horror trailers and offer something new for audiences.
Nick lacey repertoire additional to question 1 bremangi
The document discusses the key elements that make up Nick Lacey's filmmaking repertoire: setting, characters, narrative, iconography, and style. It provides examples of each element from an opening film project. The setting is a dark, empty park where something ominous is about to happen. The characters subvert expectations by having the villain defeat the victim, a boy, rather than a girl. The narrative focuses on stalking and attacking the victim with a bottle due to a low budget. Iconography includes a predatory clown preying on a victim afraid of clowns. Style uses low lighting, tension-building shots, and camera angles to relate to the horror genre.
1) The media product challenges some conventions of horror films by setting most of the story in a family household rather than run-down or dark locations, and by having the main threat be an innocent-looking doll rather than a human villain.
2) It follows some conventions through its use of suspenseful music, quick cuts, and fade transitions in editing, as well as special effects like extreme close-ups and opacity that create an unsettling atmosphere.
3) Some unique aspects include using only one nursery rhyme music track throughout, intentionally making the video quality seem degraded with static effects, and ending with an additional teaser clip rather than showing the title.
The document discusses aspects of film openings that a high school real media text class analyzed. It examines scenes and techniques from movies like Midnight Cowboy, What Lies Beneath, The Amityville Horror, Mirrors, Orphan, Child's Play, and Drag Me to Hell. Key elements the class incorporated into their own opening included a dramatic flashback shown through an edit dissolve, a character dying by drowning, and setting it in a home, which are common in thriller movies. They also used a doll prop and costumes inspired by other films.
In what ways does your media products use, develop and challenge conventions ...chloeedwards
The document discusses how the media product, a horror film trailer, uses and challenges conventions of existing horror film trailers and other media. It analyzed typical conventions in trailers, posters, and film magazines. The trailer follows many conventions, such as an eerie soundtrack, fast edits, and leaving the killer's identity ambiguous. However, it challenges conventions by having a vulnerable male protagonist rather than the typical vulnerable female. The document examines how the trailer fulfills the uses and gratifications theory by engaging audiences and allowing them to interpret events.

This document summarizes how the media product, a horror film trailer, uses and challenges conventions of the horror genre. It follows many typical horror conventions like using suspense, jump scares, darkness, and a narrative that sets up killings without revealing all details. However, it challenges conventions by having the threatening entity be a doll instead of a human, using an ordinary family home as the main setting, and having the main character wear white instead of dark colors. The trailer also challenges conventions through using one nursery rhyme music track throughout, employing static to purposely lower video quality, and ending with an additional clip instead of showing the title.
The document discusses how the media product challenges conventions of typical horror films. It subverts expectations by having a vulnerable male as the victim rather than a female, and reveals the villain is a dominant female clown. Elements like the clown, stalking, and harm were kept to appeal to 15-rated audiences. Cinematography and editing from films like IT and Scream inspired the opening scene, which builds tension as the clown stalks the two students leaving the park. Mise-en-scene details like the clown costume aim to balance scary and friendly for the target age group. Sound is used to suggest impending danger as the students joke about fears, unaware of the threat.
The document analyzes how the media product, a horror film trailer, uses and challenges conventions of the horror genre. It follows some conventions like using suspense, jump scares and dark imagery. However, it challenges conventions by having the threatening entity be a doll instead of a human or ghost. The setting of a normal family home also breaks the convention of isolated, rundown locations. Camerawork maintains normality but uses static transitions atypical of films. The story is set up through clips of a dollhouse and dialogue rather than revealing all details. Special effects like static and fades create an eerie feeling rather than high production quality.
This document analyzes the filmmakers' use of conventions from horror, thriller, and comedy genres in their short film. It breaks down the film into 9 frames, explaining how each frame either uses, challenges, or pays homage to conventions from other famous films. For example, Frame 1 uses superimposed titles similar to Cabin in the Woods, Frame 3 builds tension like a scene from Scream, and Frame 6 features an editing technique from a YouTube video to make the film unique. The overall analysis shows how the filmmakers strived to incorporate established genre conventions while also making the short film individual.
The document provides details about the film "The Spector", including the title change from "Bystander", key characters, narrative structure, setting, genre, style/inspiration, and casting. The film follows four friends who take a trip into the woods at night and are hunted by a supernatural entity called "The Spector" after trespassing on its territory. It is categorized as a supernatural horror film and takes inspiration from "The Blair Witch Project" in its shaky handheld camera style. The document describes the design and layout of a school newsletter created to follow conventions of the genre while appealing to a target audience of sixth form students. Key elements included a title, date, issue number, school logo and motto on the front cover. The contents page listed topics in a quirky, fun font with smiley faces and bubble numbers. A double page spread included related articles and images to engage the target audience. The creator aimed to balance conventions with unconventional, creative elements to appeal to sixth form readers.
The document summarizes the key design elements of a magazine front cover, contents page, and double page spread for an indie/rock music magazine. For the front cover, conventions like the masthead, date, issue number, and main cover image were used along with a red, black, white, and gold color scheme associated with indie/rock magazines. The contents page drew inspiration from NME magazine and used pictures and numbers creatively across the page to display content listings. For the double page spread, conventional elements like images, pull quotes, column writing, and bold text were implemented, and creative backgrounds like Polaroid and puzzle piece templates were incorporated.
The document summarizes the key things the student learned from constructing their media project. They gained experience using new equipment like a shotgun mic and editing software. They also learned how to effectively use mise-en-scene to set the tone for their horror opening, having previously struggled with it in a preliminary task. Overall, the student recognizes a significant improvement in their understanding of creating effective mise-en-scene through research and applying it to their full project compared to earlier work.
Cloud 9 Productions is a successful horror film production company. They have produced films like The Lullaby and Brocken Wards, which won a BAFTA award. Their upcoming film is about a group of teenagers who discover a possessed book that starts haunting them psychologically and possessing one of them. The film's sub-genre is possession, with conventions like creepy nursery rhyme singing and speaking in tongues.
The document analyzes how the opening sequence of a student thriller film uses and develops conventions of real media products in the thriller genre. It matches conventions through the use of a helpless blonde female protagonist and ominous antagonist in black, as well as blood and gore makeup and a creepy male voiceover. However, it subverts conventions somewhat by setting the sequence in a doll house rather than a typical hiding location. Overall, the sequence aims to match audience expectations set by inspirations like Scream and Silence of the Lambs more than challenge conventions.
The document discusses conventions used in the opening scene of a horror film project. It begins by outlining conventions incorporated from other horror films like The Shining, Scream, Saw, and The Blair Witch Project. Darkness, emptiness, innocent/mysterious protagonists and antagonists are used. Unsteady camera shots are also included to mimic the "home movie feel" of Blair Witch. The opening introduces the antagonist, builds suspense, and raises questions like other horror films. It represents males in the roles of both victims and killer, challenging typical female victim stereotypes. The intended audience is described as teenagers and young adults seeking thrills.

Through extensive research into the genre and industry, they improved their planning process and adapted their original idea. Filming skills like camerawork and editing improved over time. While the production process wasn't perfect, the student feels they created a good film considering the challenges, and learned valuable lessons to apply to future projects.
This document discusses how the media product conforms to and challenges conventions of the horror genre. It analyzes how conventions were used to engage audiences and identify the genre. Specifically, it examines how the characters, camera work, sounds, and narrative structures conform to horror tropes seen in films like Women in Black and Evil Dead. While some conventions were followed, it also discusses challenges like starting in media res rather than showing daily life and using a male protagonist instead of a typical female victim. Overall, the document argues that understanding genre conventions through research was important for successfully targeting horror fans.
The document discusses how a media product conforms to and challenges conventions of the horror genre. It analyzes how the product uses conventions from films like Women in Black and Seven in aspects like costumes, titles, and shot types. While the protagonist and use of flashbacks conform to genre norms, the product challenges conventions by starting in media res rather than showing the protagonist's daily life. Camera work and sounds also conform to conventions to scare the audience. Overall, the document argues that using genre conventions helped engage the target horror film audience.
The document discusses how a media product conforms to and challenges conventions of the horror genre. It analyzes how the product uses conventions from films like Women in Black and Seven in aspects like costume, titles, and shot types. While the product features a male protagonist rather than a typical female one, both main characters conform to genre character archetypes. The product challenges conventions by starting in media res rather than building tension gradually. Overall, the document argues the product strategically uses genre conventions to engage audiences familiar with the horror genre.
Our media product, a film, follows many conventions of the thriller and horror genres. We used high angle wide shots during moments of mystery or uncertainty, as thrillers typically do, to give context and portray character attitudes. We also used over-the-shoulder shots for the antagonist to foreshadow events, mirroring horror films. While conforming to these conventions, we also challenged some by using thoughtful mise-en-scene to reveal character personalities and an unconventional poster featuring the isolated school setting to promote mystery. Overall, we strategically employed genre conventions to engage audiences while putting our own spin on some elements.
The document discusses the student's media product, which is a title sequence for a horror/thriller film. The student explains various ways their title sequence does and does not follow conventions of real media titles. They stuck to conventions like using short, jumpy shots to build tension, as seen in the title of "Orphan." However, they also combined these with slower shots, breaking convention. They used inspiration from titles like "Jaws" and "Panic Room" but also made their own creative choices. The student analyzes their use of camera work, sound, characters, and more to represent themes and draw in the target audience. Overall, the student learned about planning, filming, editing technologies, and analyzing their work
The document discusses how the media product Incognito challenges conventions of real media products. It uses techniques like POV handheld camera footage inspired by The Blair Witch Project to make viewers feel involved. It also does not reveal the antagonist's face at first, building suspense like the movie Se7en. Representation of social groups focuses on the protagonist, based on characters like John Luther, being a male detective obsessed with catching the mysterious killer antagonist portrayed in a supernatural, animalistic way. Distribution could be by institutions open to blurred genre works like Netflix or streaming services rather than documentary or educational channels.

The document discusses similarities and differences between the filmmakers' horror sequence and other films in the genre. It notes that the opening sequence uses POV camera angles similarly to The Blair Witch Project to create realism and fear. The sequence also takes place in the woods, uses a dark filter, and features a villain whose face is obscured - all conventions seen in The Blair Witch Project and Alien. However, the film focuses more on gender stereotypes than religious themes seen in The Exorcist. It keeps to conventions like isolated settings and the early death of innocent characters, but avoids including a promiscuous character or weapons typically seen in horror films to create a more realistic and gritty sequence.
The document discusses the production of the media product "Incognito". It describes how the product uses and challenges conventions of real thriller and horror films. Inspiration was drawn from films like "The Blair Witch Project" and "Se7en" that used found footage and delayed revealing the antagonist. The document also discusses the representation of characters, intended audience, research conducted, and what was learned about filming, editing, sound and more through the process.
This document discusses how gender is typically represented in paranormal horror films and how the filmmakers have represented gender in their own film "The Hellion". Males are usually depicted as strong, brave "jocks" while females are weak and vulnerable. The filmmakers dressed one male character in a varsity jacket to depict him as strong and another in "cool" clothing to make him persuasive. A female character is dressed in nerdy clothing with glasses to depict her as the cynical role, going against expectations when she plays the ouija board. The document aims to show how the film conforms to genre conventions around gender representation.
The document provides an analysis of how the student's horror trailer uses conventions of the horror genre. It discusses elements like nonlinear sequencing, dark color schemes, diegetic sounds, gore makeup effects, intertitles, and jump scares. Inspiration was drawn from films like Evil Dead (2013) and auteurs like George A. Romero. Researching other horror trailers helped understand conventions over time. The student's trailer starts slow then speeds up, similar to Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, to build tension without revealing too much of the plot.
The document discusses how the media product challenges conventions of real media products through its use of nonlinear narrative, unusual shots and editing techniques. It establishes continuity during filming through obeying the 180 degree rule and tries to match color grading when issues arise. It also uses flashbacks, fast pacing and an atypical ending to subvert expectations of the thriller genre while still including elements like ominous music, shadows and a dual protagonist-villain perspective. The film aims to engage audiences through relatable characters, themes of truth and illusion, and providing an emotional and mentally escapist experience.

The document provides an analysis of a student film project that was created to follow the conventions of a psychological thriller genre. It discusses how the opening scene establishes suspense through a woman running in distress set to dramatic music. While some conventions were followed, the film also challenged expectations by portraying the female protagonist as strong and independent. The document examines the influences of films like The Blair Witch Project and Halloween 5 and how technologies like cameras and editing software were used to construct the film product.
Our Thriller opening 'Clean Cut' challenges conventions by presenting religious themes and supernatural wounds without showing an antagonist. It adapts Thriller conventions like showing the protagonist in peril and including crime-related sounds to isolate her. Manipulating perspectives through mirrors and TV effects adds to the supernatural theme. The sequence fits the Supernatural Thriller subgenre through its inclusion of religion and themes of physical pain. The protagonist Anna follows conventions as a weak victim who will overcome challenges. The plain white bathroom location and polaroids used in credits maintain a cold, hostile atmosphere in line with genre conventions. Unusual camera techniques like stop motion bleeding create an unsettling tone.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

1. EVALUATION QUESTION 1: IN WHAT WAY DOES
YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR
CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL
MEDIA PRODUCTS
2. SAME AS
Our trailer is consistent with a large amount of
films in the horror genre. With the sub genre of
found footage. The hand held, point of view
camera work is coherent with that of our
inspiration (The Blair Witch Project). Other
similarities include our location being set in the
woods and the start of the trailer including block
text.
Blair Witch Project
Blair Witch Project
3. There is also a clear light to dark
mood change which is also consistent
with that of the Blair Witch Project.
The genre technique allows the
audience to gain a greater
understanding of the feelings of the
characters. Other films it is used in
are films such as Paranormal Activity
and Panic Button
SAME AS
4. Like The Strangers, our antagonist does not have a
recognisable face, meaning that our character is not
linked with an actor, making the scenes with the
Slenderman more realistic and scary. We also show
our antagonist at the end in the same sort of way
The Strangers have, in order to imprint the picture
of him as the last thing the audiences sees due to
this being a pivotal moment in the decision making
process when deciding if this is a film they would
like to see. This creating a symmetry with the
genre.
SAME AS

5. Todorov’s theory of equilibrium
predominantly always appears in the
physiological genre. Our trailer is no
different. It starts off as “a bit of a
laugh” but then gets serious. The state
of equilibrium is restored once more
when they find him trapped in the
container at the end

6. In our trailer we have developed the
idea of The Slenderman. Due to him
already being a well known mythical
creature, the platform for the audience
has already been set. Meaning that a
fan base for our film has already been
generated. We have also continued the
look that is associated with The
Slenderman but at the same time made
him look more human in order to
make the character more believable.
DEVELOP
7. The POV camera work that we adopted
during our trailer has been developed in
a way that is accessible to everyone. This
is because unlike in films such as
Paranormal Activity we did not use any
proper filming equipment. This making
the experience of the story more
believable due to the nature of the
filming. As well as this whilst filming we
didn't want to be limited to the basic
shots that were expected to be obtained.
Instead we felt it necessary to gain shots
such as an establishing shot, two/three
shot and shots of high and low angles to
give an overall better movie experience.

8. Unlike most physiological horrors, the
men in this film are the damsels in
distress. Not only this but they must
also be the heroes in order to save
themselves. It is also not often that a
film will have four main characters
that are all men. Although this is
strange due to the genre being aimed
at both genders anyway the ratio of
male to female is less important as
numbers in the audience will still be
equal.
CHALLENGE
9. Age is always an important factor when
marketing any film. These days most main
characters are typically mid 20’s (Blair Witch or
Paranormal) or teens at school (Harry Potter).
For our film we have gone in the middle at
around 19. This is so we still hit the target
audience age of 16-24 but at the same time
offer something different as we haven't
conformed to the “Hollywood formula” i.e.
having female characters as the primary target
for the antagonist, audience see the villain
before the characters do and using high tech
equipment when making a horror. This enables
us to present a character in a non stereotypical
way, although we still understood that all the
characters must own different traits such as
being scared, being the hero or even the one
that gets taken (these are the kinds of things
that were shown in our character profile as well
as in the trailer).
CHALLENGE
