1. Real media text
Have understanding of what really exits. See convention of film opening, before
subverting, understanding of genre. Lets you explore differences what worked
what didn’t. Look at styles and font most commonly used in film openings.
In year 12 the real media text we looked at were film openings, below are some
of the film openings we looked at and the specific aspects that helped us come to
the conclusionof our film opening.
We looked into ‘Midnight cowboy’, more specifically the scene where theme
main actor looks into a reflection and sees a flashback through the edit cross
dissolve. We thought this looked creative and therefor in cooperated it into our
work to show a dramatic flashback.
We looked at several ways that actors are killed of or are made to suffer, we
looked at ‘what lies beneath’ the drowning scene this helped us come up with the
idea of making our actor die through drowning, this creates a very y dramatic
atmosphere and suspense.
From most of our research we found that the main setting of most thriller movies
is the home, films that follow this convention are the ‘Amityville horror’,
‘Mirrors’, ‘Orphan’.we conformed to this stereotype as well as we kept our
setting in a home. This is where it begins.
We used a doll throughout our opening similarly to the film ‘child’s play’, we
found this prop made it very interesting and represented the characters well, our
doll suggested that the memory was still very string even after years of her
mothers death.
Our costume inspiration was from ‘Drag me to hell’ we found that if you have a
vulnerable old character to play the role of someone who is frightened it gets
across to the audience more, because you are e like to feel sorry for them or in
other cases find them scary if they play that role.
In year 13 our skill will improve as we will be using green screen to create
settings, be more advances in the edits and transitions
Image editing through photo shop using special effects. Be creative with visuals.
