In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?

Before I started creating my media product
I did research into existing products similar
to mine to see what I could do to make my
own product as accurate and professional
as possible. I feel my product
                                 uses, develops and challenges typical
forms and conventions seen in real
                                 magazines as I will demonstrate.
USING CONVENTIONS

                                                 Skyline

I believe my magazine follows many conventions of real magazines to some extent. For example I
have made use of a ‘Skyline’ as many real magazines do. I have also used a very important feature
in my media product being the cover model. In particular I have used a ‘direct mode of address’.
This basically means the cover model is looking towards the audience. Furthermore as nearly every
real magazine does I have made use of quotations . I feel this is important as the audience will read
this quotation and the purpose of it is to make the audience want to know more about the statement
and therefore they will have to purchase it to find out more. I have also used a house style similar to
CHALLENGING CONVENTIONS

I feel that my magazine also subverts conventions of real media products like my cover model
for example, although I have used a direct mode of address like many real products do, my
cover model is not your typical rapper. He subverts the ideology that rappers are violent
through his attitude and facial expression. I also feel that his dress code challenges real media
product conventions as you normally see a rapper with his hood up or wearing sunglasses for
example however my cover model is not like this and I feel therefore he is a more positive
influence than other rappers from real magazines.
