In 2009, when worked for the Region of Peel government, Canada, we successfully used patent mapping to identify 20 US patent intensive companies as the potential employers for highly educated immigrants. Following this initiative, we have created and been maintaining a Canadian patent competitive intelligence (CI) database to track the latest patent competence of over 3600 Canadian entities on a weekly basis. Through our work with Region of Peel from 2010 to 2012, this database shows that it can provide no-older-than-7-day intelligence for long-term strategic research/planning and short-term tactics. This is also the first attempt in Canada to use patent landscape as a regional economic strength indicator, a baseline for policy harmonization and policy performance evaluation.

Data-Ed Slides: Data Architecture Strategies - Constructing Your Data GardenDATAVERSITY
Data architecture is foundational to an information-based operational environment. Without proper structure and efficiency in organization, data assets cannot be utilized to their full potential, which in turn harms bottom-line business value. When designed well and used effectively, however, a strong data architecture can be referenced to inform, clarify, understand, and resolve aspects of a variety of business problems commonly encountered in organizations.
The goal of this webinar is not to instruct you in being an outright data architect, but rather to enable you to envision a number of uses for data architectures that will maximize your organization’s competitive advantage.
With that being said, we will:
- Discuss data architecture’s guiding principles and best practices
- Demonstrate how to utilize data architecture to address a broad variety of organizational challenges and support your overall business strategy
- Illustrate how best to understand foundational data architecture concepts based on the DAMA International Guide to Data Management Body of Knowledge (DAMA DMBOK)

Hadj Ounis's most notable work is his sculpture titled "Metamorphosis." This piece showcases Ounis's mastery of form and texture, as he seamlessly combines metal and wood to create a dynamic and visually striking composition. 1. Q6. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing the product?
2. Camera & the filming process
The camera we used to film our thriller opening was a
Canon EOS 450D which had a very good HD quality
video capture. It also had good sound quality and was
easy to use so we had no problems with the camera
and the footage came out very clear.
However, we faced problems with lighting and the
steadiness of the camera and had to re-shoot our
opening scene.
We overcame this by filming in the day to make sure
everything could be seen and we used a tripod to hold
the camera so that when we used camera movements
such as panning, it was much more professional and
effective.
3. Equipment
Using equipment such as the tripod enhanced our
thriller opening sequence and taught us new skills and
how to use the tripod. It also made filming a more fun
experience.
By having a small amount of equipment made it easier
to carry around and move to different locations
(bedroom, woods). It also made the filming process
simple and easy.
4. Editing Process & Sound
To edit our thriller opening we used iMovie which was very
easy to use and since I’d never used it before, it helped me
gain new skills. It made editing a very simple process,
however it was quite slow and froze up quite a few times
but overall it was a good editing software.
We also used Garage Band to make our own music and
sound effects to go with our media product. This is where
we got the non-diegetic suspense sound effects for our
thriller. It was an efficient and fun software to use and had
many different sound effects that were really helpful to us
and gave us many different options. It was also really easy
to use and we had no issues or constraints with it.
5. The Overall Process
The process I went through to film and edit the thriller opening
was quite simple but very time consuming.
To edit, we first had to import the footage from the camera to
iMovie and then create a new project. Then we simply had to
click and drag the footage we wanted to use into the new project
and cut and edit what parts we wanted and didn’t want and also
had to make sure their weren’t any continuity problems.
We then created an audio piece with all the sound effects we
wanted on Garage Band and then put it in the specific parts of
the opening scene and changed the volume of the different
diegetic and non-diegetic sounds.
We also added in the extra background music for the beginning
of the opening and the fake scream for the death scene to make it
more emphasised and loud.
We then added in credits and the title and exported the movie
and uploaded it onto YouTube ready to put on our blogs.
6. These are all new skills that I’ve learned and I now
know how to film and edit a video and what softwares
and equipment to use, e.g. tripod, Canon EOS
450D, GarageBand and iMovie.
