How did you use digital
technology in your
production work?
Throughout the following slide show I am going to talk about
the digital technology I used to make my media production
IronStone.
I am going to discuss the Filming, Editing, Sound. I am also
going to mention how I created my Film Poster and Radio
Advert.
Filming
To Film the media production IronStone we used a
HD Canon camera, we took several shots of each
scene to Ensure that when it came to editing we
had the Optimum clip to use. The HD camera was
of an
Obvious higher capturing quality than that of the
first Shots we got for the film ‘Zombie’ The lighting
used was all natural as we were lucky enough to
film on nice Sunny days. The tripod we used had a
nice smooth panning option of which we used
frequently. The tripod could also tilt and change
level which meant it was very rare that we had to
take handheld shots.
Sound
The sound in the movie such as
the tracks ‘The Journey’ and
‘Entering Ironstone’, I made on
the Mac application Garage band.
Although at first I found it hard to
use garage band it became
simpler the more I played with it. I
made all the sound my making a
new track and using the loops. I
also used the application
Soundtrack pro on occasion to
make tracks fade in and out. I
used sound effects from garage
band such as screams and the
cracking of bone for the
chomping of flesh. A major but
slightly unnoticeable
disadvantage from garage band
is that converted tracks quality
is decreased and some
information from the track is
lost resulting in noise.
To edit the clips that had been filmed
together I used software called Final Cut
Pro, again this was on the mac. I could take
clips I had filmed cut them, take bits that I
needed and stick them next to shots from a
different angle. The editing allowed me to
add shot reverse shots, match on action
and even slow down/ speed up clips that
required it. In final cut pro I could put sound
where I wanted and this was useful when
adding sound effects, I was even able to
phase sound in and out along with adding
video transitions to make the whole thing
smoother and link together making it look
like a production that flows, rather than a
jumble of clips.
Editing
Making My Film Poster
To make my film poster I used Adobe photo shop, It allowed me to import my
own images such as the building and the award crest, and layer them
appropriately so that everything that was in the right place. I added text to my
poster and even used the ready made stars for my rating. However the main
use of digital technology I used was Google!.
Making My Radio Advert
Again I used Garage band to create
my radio trailer. I recorded my voice
and used a filter of vocals to make it
deeper, with this I added an echo. I
also imported audio from the film itself
to this I added a megaphone filter
making it sound clearer and loud. I
them put my advert on sound track pro
to make it fade in and out.
Google
Another important use of digital technology was the
internet. Using all the new software was worrying and I felt
foreign to it all. However I made good use of the resources
available to me. If I had a question or got stuck whilst
using software or if I simply didn't’t know where to start. I
knew that online there would be a large directory of
tutorials. The internet also came into use whilst
researching for my ancillary tasks. Allowing me to find out
with ease what the conventions where for my chosen
genre and follow the practice of others. I think with the
internet I would have had difficulty completing this project.
