2. How does your
media product
represent particular
social groups?
The location of the train station represents mundane average and established setting,
which most viewers will be familiar with therefore it doesn’t represent a certain social
group as this setting is relevant to everyone as it may be used for work reasons or just
general travel. It is not the stereotypical setting to use within a thriller as it is not derelict or
isolated, this generates ambiguity and appeals and represents a wider range of people.

The setting may also represent the working class predominantly as trains are generally
used to travel to work, however this is juxtaposed when we see the characters wearing
informal, casual clothes, this then appeals and represents wider social groups. This use of
contrast may also indicate the relationship between the mystery girl and the girl standing
on the platform, as they are portrayed as strangers however they may have some sort of
connection. Also the city which can be seen in the background represents urban individuals
and once again represents youth as the city contains many aspects and pleasures that
entertain the young.
The clothing in which the girl standing on the platform is wearing Is very casual and
informal. This represents youth and teenagers, this is emphasized with the footwear as
they are converse shoes which connotes age and the activeness and unawareness present
within a teenagers life. . The gender of the girl is female, this is represented through the
dress she is wearing. The girl represents the young, middle class, she doesn’t look business
like and is seen walking in a train station which is situated in the city therefore she doesn’t
stereotypically fit into the high-class group, however she does not fit into the lower class as
well as she is seen looking optimistic therefore is travelling somewhere as she is located in a
train station, her clothes are not shabby resulting in her not fitting into the lower class
group. Therefore she may represent the middle class.
The mystery girl within ‘Blind Premonitions’ may represent a wide range of social
groups, first of all she may represent people with a mental disability. She is seen looking
disoriented and secluded within the surroundings, as well as this through the flashbacks
she is seen bowing her head and running through an isolated area this suggest that she
is in some sort of struggle. This represents mentally agitated people as she is seen
suppressed within her society and doesn’t fit into the norm, and while running through
the park she has to run through various obstacles, this is the same case with people
with mental disabilities as they have to go through various obstacles on the road to
recovery. At one point she is stood still within the trees emphasizing her isolated and
vulnerable character, these two traits are usually linked with people that are mentally
unstable, this may connote that people who are mentally stable may come to a halt
and experience some ‘give up’ moments during their life.
The ‘mystery’ girl may also
represent other social groups.
This may be loners, people that
cannot fit into a society and
overall outcasts, this is due to the
scenes in which she is shown
depicting her as a lonely figure.
As well as this she again like the
girl standing on the platform
represents the youth due to the
clothing worn which is a white
dress and converse shoes. The
scene in which she is running
through the park also emphasizes
youth as typically we are
represented as adventurous,
curious and wanting to
experience new things, therefore
her running through this
environment may link with the
youth and their traits.
Overall our thriller opening doesn’t focus on a
particular social group therefore is relevant and
appeals to a wider range of audience.

Due to the aspect of fiction and fantasy teenagers
may find our film more appealing as well as this the
actors playing the character within our film are
teenagers and represent general clothing that
teenagers may tend to wear therefor that certain
age group may relate and engage more towards
our thriller opening.
