Question 2
1. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL
GROUPS?
Asha Hassan
2. REPRESENTATION
Representation means the action of speaking or acting on behalf of someone or the
state of being so represented and it is the description or portrayal of someone or
something in a particular way. For the genre of my title sequence the social groups you
will expect to see will be teenagers and high school girls. This is because its is a film about
two friends but because it is a mystery genre you could see forensic scientists and adult
teachers because they are school girls. High school girls are usually represented to be
really mean and ruthless in this genre e.g when the photo is grabbed out of my hand.
Forensic scientists and teachers are normally shown to be the savers that unfold
everything that happens and get to the bottom of it.
4. SOCIAL GROUPS IN MY
SEQUENCE
In my title sequence we represented high school teenagers we did this through using
old photographs and showing a couple of the girls in the sequence. In the film you will
see obviously see other social groups.
In the sequence the three races you see are Ugandan, White and Somali, they are all
girls this is because it is a London urban film and in London we all go to school with
different races as it is such a Multi-cultural place. Also age we kept the main characters as
the same age because the all in the same year in school which is why they know each
other anyway.
5. HOW WE REPRESENTED OUR
CHARACTERS.
We represented my character in the sequence to be the victim in the film as I am the
one that lost my best mate. Also the way i got really defensive when the photo was
grabbed out of my hand shows I am really unpredictable and unstable. But at the very
end when i go to visit her grave saying i want her back shows how I am deeply mourning
over her death
The other character the girl that grabbed the photo off me is represented to be the
nasty character in the film because how she had no sympathy for me when she took my
only photo of my friend. Also she walked off saying forget you anyway and her facial
expressions which shows she don't care about nobody's feelings.
6. POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE.
I think we showed our characters in positive ways because we purposely had a mean
high school girl that was rude to the girl because we know our target audience being
young teenagers will expect it and it shows them that they shouldn't be that ruthless
person but to be that nice helping person.
I challenge the stereotypes associated with teen films because i think media has a huge
influence on people opinions and mindsets. So if people are only shown a certain view of
teenagers they will think all teenagers are like this and can cloud their personal view or
judgment about the youth.
