EVALUATION: PART THREE
BY AIDAN KEENAN
For my research and planning, I used many sources of new media. Google was my
main search engine, helping me find magazine covers and posters to draw inspiration
from, helping me find fonts and effects to use on Photoshop and Premier Pro and
helping me research the most effective ways to present my finished products.
Websites like IMDb (Internet Movie Database) and Wikepedia allowed me to research
the plots and backstories of various films that helped inspire the creation of our trailer
and my film poster and magazine cover.
Youtube was used to host the rough cut and final cut of our trailer and also to host the
trailer feedback video of the class giving us spoken feedback on our final trailer. I also
used Youtube to search for trailers to help inspire our trailer. Movies such as Resident Evil
(2002), Zombieland (2009) and Cabin In The Woods (2012) were along the trailers I
watched to draw inspiration from.
How did you use media technologies with the construction, research,
planning and evaluation stages?
During the construction of our main product and my
ancillary products, two programs were mainly used.
Adobe Photoshop was used to create my film poster
and magazine cover and Adobe Premier Pro was used
to create our trailer. In Photoshop, I adjusted the levels
and hue/saturation of my photographs to enhance the
lighting and darkness in them. I also changed the layer
style of duplicates to screen, multiply and overlay to add
textures over the top and again to adjust the lighting
levels. I also used the crop and free-transform tools to
adjust my photographs to the correct size and to place
the text and brush effects in the correct areas.
In Premier Pro, we adjusted the brightness and contrast
in the video effects to enhance the feel of the clips,
adding to the darker feel of the trailer. When we added
the music, we deleted the already present audio and
then placed ours down, before cropping the film clips
and deleting the ripples between clips to match the
action to the music.
During the evaluation of my work, I used several sites and programs. My
blog on blogger.com houses all of my coursework for easy viewing, editing
and adding. Blogger also allowed us to have polls where class members
can rate our trailers on a scale of 0 to 10. To present my evaluations, I used
Microsoft Powerpoint to write up each evaluation question, before
uploading them to SlideShare, a powerpoint hosting websites. I then
embedded these powerpoints into posts on my blog. Youtube was also
used for my evaluation to host the videos of the class giving us feedback on
the final cut of our trailer
