Front cover
My front cover was originally going to be set out in this way because it looks really neat, also
the structure of the front page is perfect because my main image is in the centre of the page
which means all the focus will be on the main image because it is the first thing that pops
out at you. I thought putting the giveaway section at the bottom left hand corner would be
affective because it will be the last thing the will see and if they look at that last they might
get even more excited in it and buy it.
Then I made my first product which looks ok but there were a few things that I needed to
change but there are some things that I liked and which I kept exactly the same such as my
title because the colure and the outline worked so well together so I kept that exactly the
same and I also kept the logo on the same place and I made my logo myself.
Now my final front cover looks completely different now and in my opinion the layout is a
lot better. I made my main image a lot bigger because so that people will see it better and it
will pop out at them. For my giveaway section I made it snappier and brighter by adding in
different colure drop shadows to emphasise the win a pop figure competition and with that
I put my pop figure image closer and more tight and it looks more together. I simplified the
content list by taking out the title and I also put a stroke over the top of the writing to make
it stand out. I also mover the issue number to the right-hand side and I also moved the
barcode. The final change is the sneak peek I added a couple of strokes and made them
blurry so it looks like lightening.
Double page spread
my double page spared was going to be laid out like this because the title is big and bold
and they would see it easily. I was going to have one massive future image that would span
most of the page and then I would have 2 smaller but still big images at both sides of the big
picture and what I was going to was to put a little text box under both of the pictures and
write a little caption about that said image under. And then under all of that I was going to
put my article under all of that.
But when I actually started to my double page spread I tried to follow my plan as well as I
could but it really didn’t work as well as I planned so I went completely off topic so I got rid
of the big image and the 2 little images with the caption. But instead I made 4 medium sized
images and under ach one I had an interview under it so altogether I had 4 interviews. What
I did do is kept the title in the same place. Another thing that I added was the addition of
the fun facts. This was used to fill in some blank space that I had in my double page spread,
but it is quite cool to have the little facts jotted around the page. I had no idea what I was
going to do for my background because originally I only had the blue gradient as my
background but then some gave me an idea to make my background to look like a comic like
adding speech bubbles and exclamation marks and radiation sign which make my double
page spread 10 times better and what I liked about the final product is that the fun facts are
in the speech bubbles.
Website
I didn’t really have an idea going in to doing my website all I had was website plan but it
wasn’t much to go on. But I knew I needed to keep the Samish style so I used the logo on
the front page and I also knew that I wanted to keep the website quite simple so people
could easily navigate the website and that they don’t get confused when they are using the
website. On my front page, I decided to put my front page of my magazine because on some
of the websites that I looked at they had their most recent magazine cover on the front
page so I decided to do the same by putting my front page on the home page of the
website. Also on the home page I put a little bit of information about Comic World and also
our contact detail. I put the contact details on the front page so that they don’t need to
wade through multiple links to find the contact page, by having it on the home page it is
easy for them to find and they can ask questions straight away. On the next page was my
news page which has news about comic world. I liked the layout of the news page because it
is simple and it also has a big image which will grabs people attention. Most websites have a
news page set out like this but there are more news articles and the writing is a lot smaller.
And finally, my order page. This one took be a bit to do because there wasn’t a function
where you could order something but if you wanted a place where you could buy something
on your website you have to make it a shop which just makes it a bit annoying. But what I
did was I us the email subscription box and once they subscribe they will get an email saying
where to pay for the magazine, how much it is and also some extra information about it.
Comparisons between my front cover and a professionally made one
Where do I start, there are many differences between my front cover and the professional
one, for example, the title stands out a lot more then my one, it looks so much better on the
professional one because the title is a lot bigger and bolder and it is quite simple because it
is just plain white which stands out on the colourful background, although mine is bold and
easy to read because the colures contrast well with each other and I also have used a stroke
to emphasise it but Empire did it a lot better because they didn’t need to colour fill the
letters. Also, the headline is really simple and affective because it uses only a thin stroke just
emphasise Thor. The main image on the professional one was defiantly take by a
professional which they know what they are doing so it looks really good, they got Chris to
pose in the perfect position, whereas I just got a picture straight from the comics. just the
whole layout of the professional one is really good such as the positioning of the title and
the headings to the positioning of the selling lines and the plugs. The background
emphasises the whole of the front cover because you just see little bits of red laver in the
background compared to mine. The positioning of everything is really far apart and the
majority of my writing is too small so it doesn’t really pop out at you which results in leaving
multiple blank spaces.
What I would do next time would try and fill out more of the space by enlarging the text or
using more images of more plugs. I would also try to take my own image for the front cover
because it will look a ton better.
Comparisons between my double page spread and a professionally done one,

and affective because they just used 2 really big images at the top of the page which are
easy to see compared to mine, used 4 small images which people may or may not see and it
doesn’t really fill up the page as much as the 2 big images at the top of the page. But when
it comes to the article I think I did ok with the style of it because on the professional one the
writing was quite small and in blocks, well that is exactly the same as mine. Although the is
more writing in the professional one and it covers more space but I think I am on par with
the professional one. The professional one has a simple background which works really well,
compared to mine I used a nice blue background which links to my front cover but the
professional one is guaranteed to get into a magazine and mine maybe not.
What I would change to write a bit more in my article and what I also might do is only
choose 2 picture and make them bigger and then I will be able to fit more text underneath
Comparisons between my website and a professional one
Where do I start, there are many differences between my website and the professional
website. The layout of the professional website is crammed full of pictures and articles and
news and it has lots of different links to go on different pages which means there are many
different pages with different things on. Compared to mine which is really simple with only
3 different links. I think my one is more simple than the professional one because you don’t
really have to search much to find the stuff you need compared to the professional one
there is a lot of links and pages.
What I would change on my website is to make my background a bit better like adding an
image or make it blue.
