... From our questionnaire and talking to the teenagers we found that people enjoy Social realism films, and would like to see more of them being produced in the UK. Many of the teenagers like the fact that they can relate and empathise with characters, we also discovered that a lot of the girls feel that there should be more dominance from females in the social realist films, because they find that the protagonists are mainly male characters. The teenagers like to watch films with issues they can relate to such as sex, relationships, crime and drugs.
Social realist films often portray the lives of everyday teenagers and young adults, through raw and gritty storylines. The films we looked into show the complications young people face through their lives and their struggle to survive.  Urban dramas and social realist films often catch real life situations on screen, for people to both see and relate to the truth that lies on their streets and behind closed doors. The issues concentrated on in he films that shows their hardship, struggle pain and difficulties are often based around relationships, drugs and gang violence, these issues often touch the audience.   Characters in social realist and urban drama films reflect teenagers and young adults from today’s society, and the film directors have used props carefully such as; guns, knives, drugs and alcohol to give and insight of these characters and to help build up the stereotypes of each individual in the film.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Conventions  ,[object Object],        Stereotypical characters, young urban teenagers.         Costume – tracksuits, hoods, hats, jewellery, modern clothing.         Setting – urban area, central Birmingham ,[object Object]
Editing  - short faced pace clips, juxtapose the sadness and the real lives of teenagers in urban areas, this shows that the lives of teenagers aren't straightforward.Subversion of conventions ,[object Object],[object Object]
We used the same colours through both our magazine and poster to show the link. Using the heads of the image to cover the masthead  implies its a well known magazine The same font is used throughout again to link the products together. The image here, gives a fuller view of the subway, and a clear image of the two characters and their facial expressions display their emotions. The bar code and use of professional names, give a realistic  outcome
The film reviews give a professional and realistic look on the post , making the film look successful and a must watch.  The title is deteriorated reflecting the lives of the characters. Subway setting with graffiti in the background implies rebellion and street life.  Costume:  these consist of modern, urban and  underground fashion of today’s young society Small print at he bottoms enables it took look professional, because of  it being such a common factor on film posters
How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?
Digital HD Video Camera The HD video camera  permitted us to film our video clips to include in the teaser trailer, in high definition giving a  penetrating and  proficient  outcome. We was able to instantly upload to the laptop and onto final cut pro using a memory card. The functions on the HD camera are much more complicated than a standard video camera, so we had to get used to them and understand them before filming. The main functions we used were zoom and night mode, which allowed us to capture clear footage at night time, to give a powerful effect on an establishing shot of Birmingham. With the HD camera being so efficient and clearer it gave us more confidence to try out different shots and angles, giving the trailer variations of different things; this made it look professional with a sharp outcome, this made our trailer believable and realistic linking to the social realist genre. Photoshop Elements We used photo shop elements  to create  the magazine front cover and  poster.  This enabled us to add specialised effects and layer  them up to make them look realistic. We used the magnetic lasso to trace around the models head on the image of the magazines front cover. This was so we could place the masthead behind it. To do so, we copied and pasted the head we had traced around with the magnetic lasso onto a new layer and then placed it on top of the masthead. We did this so the magazine appeared recognised by consumers also to give a profession outlook. Another photoshop element is the enhancement tools which allow you to enhance an image giving them a realistic and professional outcome. We were able to experiment with the different tools to see which ones were necessary to use and that improved my images. On our image we changed the brightness & contrast, hue & saturation and the mid tones and shadows. We did so to create an urban and realistic look to the images to fit our urban style genre.  Digital Stills Camera  We used the digital still camera allowed us to take our photos for the magazine front cover and poster, giving them a sharp and professional look, creating them to look realistic. To achieve the best quality images we used, zoom, micro lens and flash.  We experimented with different angles and camera shots.
Final Cut Pro We created our teaser trailer on final cut pro, which allowed us to  organise our video footage in our preferred order, and with effects. Final cut pro plays a big part in creativity when we made our trailer. It allowed us to do so many different things, with shots, effects, and sound. The modern technology within final cut pro meant that the uploading and editing process was quick and easy. Slow and fast motion was  an effect used at various points within our trailer, the slow motion contrasted with the quick paced clips. We experimented with several transitions to make the trailer interesting, one of these trailers was cross dissolve to smoothly link clips together on clips where it was same action different angles, this gave it a professional look. For the film genre we were doing, social realism we had to get audio tracks which linked with that. However we had two sections to our trailer one being the upbeat action part, the second section be the slow realisation part, these sections both have contrasting music, which we merged together to make one track.   • 4. ... From our questionnaire and talking to the teenagers we found that people enjoy Social realism films, and would like to see more of them being produced in the UK. Many of the teenagers like the fact that they can relate and empathise with characters, we also discovered that a lot of the girls feel that there should be more dominance from females in the social realist films, because they find that the protagonists are mainly male characters. The teenagers like to watch films with issues they can relate to such as sex, relationships, crime and drugs.
  • 5. Social realist films often portray the lives of everyday teenagers and young adults, through raw and gritty storylines. The films we looked into show the complications young people face through their lives and their struggle to survive. Urban dramas and social realist films often catch real life situations on screen, for people to both see and relate to the truth that lies on their streets and behind closed doors. The issues concentrated on in he films that shows their hardship, struggle pain and difficulties are often based around relationships, drugs and gang violence, these issues often touch the audience. Characters in social realist and urban drama films reflect teenagers and young adults from today’s society, and the film directors have used props carefully such as; guns, knives, drugs and alcohol to give and insight of these characters and to help build up the stereotypes of each individual in the film.

  • 8. We used the same colours through both our magazine and poster to show the link. Using the heads of the image to cover the masthead implies its a well known magazine The same font is used throughout again to link the products together. The image here, gives a fuller view of the subway, and a clear image of the two characters and their facial expressions display their emotions. The bar code and use of professional names, give a realistic outcome
  • 9. The film reviews give a professional and realistic look on the post , making the film look successful and a must watch. The title is deteriorated reflecting the lives of the characters. Subway setting with graffiti in the background implies rebellion and street life. Costume: these consist of modern, urban and underground fashion of today’s young society Small print at he bottoms enables it took look professional, because of it being such a common factor on film posters
  • 10. How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?
  • 11. Digital HD Video Camera The HD video camera permitted us to film our video clips to include in the teaser trailer, in high definition giving a penetrating and proficient outcome. We was able to instantly upload to the laptop and onto final cut pro using a memory card. The functions on the HD camera are much more complicated than a standard video camera, so we had to get used to them and understand them before filming. The main functions we used were zoom and night mode, which allowed us to capture clear footage at night time, to give a powerful effect on an establishing shot of Birmingham. With the HD camera being so efficient and clearer it gave us more confidence to try out different shots and angles, giving the trailer variations of different things; this made it look professional with a sharp outcome, this made our trailer believable and realistic linking to the social realist genre. Photoshop Elements We used photo shop elements to create the magazine front cover and poster. This enabled us to add specialised effects and layer them up to make them look realistic. We used the magnetic lasso to trace around the models head on the image of the magazines front cover. This was so we could place the masthead behind it. To do so, we copied and pasted the head we had traced around with the magnetic lasso onto a new layer and then placed it on top of the masthead. We did this so the magazine appeared recognised by consumers also to give a profession outlook. Another photoshop element is the enhancement tools which allow you to enhance an image giving them a realistic and professional outcome. We were able to experiment with the different tools to see which ones were necessary to use and that improved my images. On our image we changed the brightness & contrast, hue & saturation and the mid tones and shadows. We did so to create an urban and realistic look to the images to fit our urban style genre. Digital Stills Camera We used the digital still camera allowed us to take our photos for the magazine front cover and poster, giving them a sharp and professional look, creating them to look realistic. To achieve the best quality images we used, zoom, micro lens and flash. We experimented with different angles and camera shots.
  • 12. Final Cut Pro We created our teaser trailer on final cut pro, which allowed us to organise our video footage in our preferred order, and with effects. Final cut pro plays a big part in creativity when we made our trailer. It allowed us to do so many different things, with shots, effects, and sound. The modern technology within final cut pro meant that the uploading and editing process was quick and easy. Slow and fast motion was an effect used at various points within our trailer, the slow motion contrasted with the quick paced clips. We experimented with several transitions to make the trailer interesting, one of these trailers was cross dissolve to smoothly link clips together on clips where it was same action different angles, this gave it a professional look. For the film genre we were doing, social realism we had to get audio tracks which linked with that. However we had two sections to our trailer one being the upbeat action part, the second section be the slow realisation part, these sections both have contrasting music, which we merged together to make one track.
