- The first title design did not match up well when printed, even though the fonts were the same size, with the names appearing on different levels. The new design was found to be a more effective way to achieve the desired effect.

- 1. TYPOGRAPHY – BOOK COVER DESIGN EVALUATION UNIT 2 BY K A R A N S I N G H 3 1 9 2 3 3
- 2. EXPLAIN THE THEMES YOU IDENTIFIED IN YOUR CHOSEN BOOK AND HOW YOU FEEL YOUR FINAL COVER COMMUNICATES THE THEMES OF THE BOOK – CONSIDER IMAGES / COLOURS / LIGHTING / STYLE ETC • The theme that I went for was all sorts because I wanted an unusual cover that has not been done before, so I recached on Roald Dahl and found that all his covers was done by drawings (traditional – handmade), so I decided to go for all sorts because it has not been done before. I chose the same colours that is used in the sweets which was orange, pink, black and white. The font I choses was a san serif font and I was going for a childish font for the target audience which is children and adults. I made the background similar to the all sorts packet (black). The rectangles are the sweets that all sorts have. The text colours are pink, black and white I did this so that the customer can re look at it and think that look like a good book to read just by looking at the cover. I did not put any pictures on it because when Roald Dahl makes his book hi e uses images to describe what the book is about without reading it whereas I did the complete opposite and just used colours and text tried to keep it simple as possible.
- 3. EVALUATE SPECIFICALLY HOW THE TYPEFACE STYLES AND LETTER FORMS YOU HAVE CREATED AND CHOSEN TO USE COMMUNICATE THE MAIN THEMES OF THE BOOK. USE THE CORRECT TERMINOLOGY THAT YOU HAVE USED THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT WHEN DESCRIBING THE TYPEFACES AND LETTER FORMS YOU HAVE USED. • The typefaces that I used was cap and base line throughout the cover the size of the text was the same except “and the” because they are a three letter word so I thought I should put them in the same line and smaller than the rest. Charlie, Chocolate and Factory are the same size because they are the main word, characters and items in the story. I used a san serif font too make it look childish and more relatable to the story.
- 4. 3) EXPLAIN CONTEXTUAL INFLUENCES USED IN YOUR DESIGN PROCESS – WHICH DESIGNERS / ARTISTS DID YOU LOOK AT AND WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM THE? WHAT OTHER BOOK DESIGN COVERS INSPIRED / INFLUENCED YOU AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU THINK THE ORIGINAL BOOK COVER IS EFFECTIVE OR NOT EFFECTIVE • The artists/designers that influenced me was Michael Beirut because of the colour. He uses simple colours throughout his books. I also used positive and negative spaces influenced by Noma Bar. I used the negative and positive in my work in the text but placing the text directly at the edges of the rectangles.
- 5. I DESIGNED VARIOUS BOOK DESIGNED BY THE INSTAURATION FROM ALL SORTS • In this design I used the black background and the rectangles and circles designed as the sweets. I really like the design of the 2d shapes as if they are the sweets. The colour code was orange, black, white and pink. And the big pink circles are the circle sweets and the text was the circle in the middle. The letters was really creative because its all different colours so if it was a black background it will be a white letter or it if was a white, orange or pink will be a black letter. If you look closely at the pink you can see it looks like a face with the two circles in the middle which represents as the eyes and the two rectangle which represent as the top and bottom of the face.
- 6. DESIGN 2 • I tried changing everything so from 2d shapes I actually draw the sweets into 3d. I change the black background to pink to make the sweets in the cover stand out. I believe that it cover is really simple and childish for the cover. The black sweets are the black licorice and the yellow and the orange it the other licorice.
- 7. D3 • I tried going for a really colourful book cover too represent the different colour sweets in the book. I used the black background so that the colours in the cover could stand out. The negative thing about this cover is that the colours I used was not the same colours that all sorts use in there sweets.
