Established in November 2010
with the explicit goal of promoting
the field of human-computer
interaction in Estonia
EstCHI has a very small formal
member base but reaches a large
community bringing together
academia and both public and
private sectors
EstCHI promotes bi-monthly
meetings attended by 70+
participants…
…and an yearly event in November,
bringing together over 300
participants from Estonia and
surrounding countries
In 2014 EstCHI, together with
Cyprus SIGCHI, started a series of
HCI themed summer schools, with
SIGCHI’s support
The summer school was attended by
30+ participants, mainly doctoral
students from allover the world but
also by practitioners from Estonia
and surrounding countries
EstCHI’s activities are sponsored by
Tallinn University, Estonian IT
Foundation for Education, Trinidad
Consulting, and many other
occasional sponsors, including
SIGCHI
EstCHI’s activities have impact!
There is now a successful Master’s
Programme in Human-Computer
Interaction and several doctoral
students working on HCI related
topics
The number of HCI related projects
and dissertations is raising as the
topics are addressed by more and
more students in many education
institutions in the country
Practitioners are clarifying their
roles and maturing their approaches
But more important, there is a
growing uptake of HCI values and
practices in both public and private
sector
