Essential oils can easily absorb through the skin and be transferred to other areas of the body. If essential oils contact delicate skin areas or eyes, wash the affected area with warm soapy water and flush eyes with clean water. Breathing in excess essential oils can cause difficulties, so move to fresh air if affected. Oral consumption of essential oils poses the biggest risk, so seek immediate medical help and do not induce vomiting without permission.

Thoroughly wash your hands with warm water
and soap. If the essential oils come into contact
with the skin in delicate areas of the body, the
affected areas should
be washed with warm
soapy water and
carefully and
thoroughly dried.
If essential oils are present on the
fingers, care must be taken not to
rub the eyes. The eyes are
particularly sensitive and any
accidental entry of oils must be
dealt with quickly (keep this in
mind when adding essential oils
to a bath). Immediately flush the
eyes with copious amounts of
clean, warm water.
Breathing difficulties can
result if excess essential
oil is inhaled, although the
definition of “excess” will
vary with the individual.
Move the affected person
to fresh air and/or flush
the dangerous
atmosphere with fresh air.
Oral consumption of an essential oil
potentially poses the most
hazardous risk. Request immediate
medical assistance. Do not attempt
to induce vomiting unless
specifically advised to do so by a
health professional. Provide medical
personnel with the essential oil
container and, if possible, the
amount consumed should be noted.
