Social And Cultural Belief On Art Practice
Ouroborus Introduction
The brief for this assignment is as I see it to research more than 8 carving cultures and to explain
the impact of social and cultural belief on art practice. To present research material in the correct
form and record citations and bibliography correctly. This information is based on the question.
Is the Ouroborus relevant to our culture of carving from a personal, local and global view point?
Within this essay I will try to provide information that explains what Ouroborus is, investigate and
include text that links the Ouroborus to many different carving cultures that the Ouroborus has had
or still does have an effect on, and cover some of the many different impacts this symbol has an
those cultures.
(Google.co.nz, 2015) [1]
What is meaning of Ouroborus
The following are two different meanings from different sources.
1. The ouroboros from the Greek (ОїбЅђПЃОїОІПЊПЃОїП‚ бЅ„П†О№П‚ tail devouring snake) is
an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail.
The ouroboros often symbolizes self reflexivity or cyclicality, especially in the sense of something
constantly re creating itself, the eternal return, and other things such as the phoenix which operate
in cycles that begin anew as soon as they end. It can also represent the idea of primordial unity
related to something existing in or persisting from the beginning with such force or qualities it
cannot be extinguished. While first emerging in Ancient Egypt and India, the

Analysis Of Waffle House Operations Express
Technology is evolving more and more every day, making it nearly impossible to be employed
without at least some knowledge of technology such as cell phones, computers, and the internet. As
a result of the consistent increase in technology, human resource management (HRM) is evolving
into a technology based function in many organizations. Several HRM services have been made
available through the use of technology, changing the face of HR from a person to a portal. The
practice of human resource managementhas drastically changed as companies provide universal
access to HR services through technology and web based applications. The term E HR refers to
the use of web based technology for human resource service delivery (Johnson, 2011).... Show more

Waffle House s portal (Ops Express) serves as an intranet resource to all employees, in which the
page s functionality depends on the type of employee accessing it. HRMs can access the portal as
an HRMS, upper management can obtain resources and documents necessary for their jobs, and
unit managers can gain access to their payroll stubs and training.
Employee Productivity
Waffle House requires its unit managers to have cell phones in order to call in their sales
numbers to their district manager every day. The company also requires the managers to have
internet access so that they can access metrics reports as they are uploaded to the portal; this
allows managers to be aware of their performance by the day. Managers are also paid a monthly
bonus based off of their performance so they are able to access what bonuses they should be
expecting as well. The district, division, and area managers have access to these reports as well;
however they can also access performance management documents and disciplinary forms (Waffle
House Info Portal, 2010). Improvements to improve the employee productivity technology would
be to have all company metrics reports to show the employees production benchmarked against the
other unit managers across the company. This way the employees know the expectations and could
reach out to the top performing managers for tips and best practices. T

Wombs And Reproductive Rights
According to Carmen Shalev (1989) and John Robertson (1994), both of them libertarians and
progressives, women are free to do whatever they want to do and feel is proper to do with their
wombs and reproductive capacity. Shalev goes further and, at least once in her famous book Birth
Power , she states that a womanholds the right to make a profit from her womb just as any other
person holds the same right to obtain benefits from the private property she has accumulated
throughout her life. I object to this argument due to its lack of clarity. It seems that, in Shalev s
view, women are a certain type of owners of reproductive property that is just waiting to be
exploited for profit purposes. Shalev points this out in the name of women s power to decide the
best way to make money.

Lin Manuel Miranda Accomplishments
From performing in musicals and television shows, composing music, and writing Broadway
musicals, Lin Manuel Miranda is one of the most influential celebrities of recent years. He has done
so many amazing things with his musical theatre talents including writing two Broadway musicals
and writing music for some Disney movies. Many people know about his accomplishments with
Broadway, but what they don t know is why he started doing musical theatrein the first place. His
love of Broadway started long ago, when he was growing up in New York City. Lin Manuel
Miranda was born in New York City, New York on January 16, 1980. His mother is a Puerto
Rican immigrant, and she works as a clinical psychologist. His father, also a Puerto Rican

Ptahhotep s The Maxims Of Good Discourse
In order to become a great speaker, one must master the skill of listening. The vizier Ptahhotep
discloses in The Maxims of Good Discourse different practical advices on listening and speaking,
reveling that the secret for becoming a great speaker is listening to others; to remain silent until the
moment one has acquired enough knowledgefrom the elders (Ptahhotep, 13). Meanwhile, Plato in
Euthyphro shares the manuscript a dialogue between his teacher, Socrates, and Euthyphro in which
Socrates requests Euthyphro to provide him the meaning of piety in order to use it in his defense in
court. The manuscript exposes how great of listener Socrates was; he demonstrates in his use of
different techniques to convince Euthyphro to come to a clear... Show more content on

Ptahhotep argues that prosperity awaits the son that listen to his father s advice: if the son of
man accepts his father s words, no plan of his will go wrong (12). If a person listens to advices, it
will work for their advantage and their plans will go as planned. Conversely, the fool who does
not listen, can accomplish nothing at all (13), meaning that people have a lot to lose if they fail
to listen to counsel. Ptahhotep also praises the Ka that loves to listen (9) because is well adjested in
his [her] inner being (12). If the gods have not made a person boatless , one s heart is able to listen,
so one should obey to the heart and follow advices, only then one will be able to get a position of
authority. Before one become a good speaker or a teacher, one must be a great listener and retain as
much as possible from the elders and masters. Advices are given for the good, (so that) the great
will speak accordingly (11) and behold is the Ka that loves to listen (9) because all their plan will
go forward (11). Moreover, prosperity follows a good listener; things goes well with him when he

The Concept Of Individual Rights
The concept of individual rights refers to the freedom each individual possesses to pursue life
without interference from other individuals or the government. A community is a collection of said
individuals, with common interests and values, who take up community responsibilities to ensure
that the collection holds objective standards that are beneficiary to all. Even though these concepts
are intrinsically linked, in that one cannot survive without the other, there is often a desire to
separate them and define where one ends and the other begins. Human social life can often be seen
as a unity of two seemingly contradictory behavioral ideas: status competition and reciprocity.
Status competition is the practice of striving to establish... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Considering the teacher student relationship between Socrates and Plato, similarities between the
two s philosophies are quite obvious, though they might be conveyed in different ways.
In The Apology, Socrates presents his defense to his jurors when on trial for teaching
nontraditional philosophies and, allegedly, affecting the community adversely. In this account,
Socrates explains that his behavior stems from a prophecy by the oracle at Delphi which
claimed that he was the wisest of all men. Recognizing his ignorance in most worldly affairs,
Socrates concluded that he must be wiser than other men only in that he is aware of his own
lack of knowledge. In order to spread this peculiar wisdom, Socrates explains that he considers it
his duty to question supposed wise men and to expose their false wisdom as ignorance. In a
famous passage, Socrates says that God specially appointed him to the city, as though it were a
large thoroughbred horse which because of its great size is inclined to be lazy and needs the
stimulation of some stinging fly (The Apology, 30e). Without him to rouse, persuade, and reprove
the community, Socrates claims society is liable to drift into a deep sleep of unproductive activity
and ethical laziness. When people ask why Socrates cannot quietly mind his own

Childhood Obesity And Its Effects On The United States Today
Introduction With the recently documented increases in prevalence s dating as late back as to
1980, pediatric obesity now represents one of the most pressing nutritional problems facing
children in the United States today. International population studies report comparable rates of
increase, so that if current trends remain unchecked, childhood obesity is likely to challenge
worldwide public health. Substantial consequences to physical and mental health, both short and
long term, must be anticipated. Unfortunately, there is no uniform definition of childhood
obesity. Childhood obesity has been variously described by absolute weight , triceps skinfolds ,
weight for height percentiles, percent of ideal body weight and, most recently, by body mass
index (BMI weight in kg=height in meters squared). Although these measures reflect slightly
different aspects of body composition or body size, they are moderately well correlated with
body fat, even in growing children. In addition to the lack of consistency in the anthropometric
measure , the degree of obesity varies from study to study; however, for the majority of studies, a
BMI greater than either the 85th or 95th percentile, or a weight for height greater than 120% of
ideal was considered obese. Although for most children, complications of childhood obesity do not
become apparent for decades, the metabolic consequences of obesity may be already evident in
young children. Even a young child, if severely obese, can suffer serious

Analysis Of Papyrus Original Writing
OH! HUMAN! I M VERY SORRY! Papyrus yelped and rushed over to you, a wash cloth in his
gloved hand.
The kitchen walls were covered in red (You guessed it was sauce) and a boiling pot of water sat on
the stove, with several boxes of empty boxes of pasta sitting dangerously close to the flame.
He started to rub the sauce off your face, getting incredibly close. You felt your cheeks flushed at
the proximity.
HU (Y/N)? ARE YOU ALRIGHT? YOUR FACE IS INCREDIABLY RED, ARE YOU SICK?
Papyrus slipped a glove off and placed the back of his hand on your forehead.
I I m okay, I p promise! You managed to get out. Papyrus stepped away from you and opened his
mouth to speak but from behind him you saw smoke.
Papyrus! Fire! You yelped and pushed past the skeleton, you and began running over to the stove
and cabinet which were in flames. A box had caught fire and ignited the rest of them which in turn
caught the cabinets on fire.
Instinctively you grabbed the pot of boiling water and flung it onto the fire, sending scalding water
and pasta all over the kitchen and onto you. You felt an intense pain shoot through your hands as
the water splashed onto you, yelping, you jumped back only to slip on the water.
You closed your eyes and braced yourself for impact with the ground but it never came.
Boney arms were wrapped around you keeping you from hitting the ground. Papyrus looked down
at you, concern in his eyes as he gently picked you up as if you weighed nothing. Your arms and

How To Make A Water Garden Essay
You can have a beautiful and calming water garden no matter how much or how little space you
have. All you need is a weekend and a little planning to have all the beauty, tranquility and
calming atmosphere you desire at an affordable price. Your first decision will be to find a spot
for your garden. Most people choose spots where there is a good amount of shade in the
afternoon and early evening. You will need at least five hours of good sunlight a day for your
water plants since most water plants need direct sunlight to survive and be healthy. It s not
recommended that you place your water gardendirectly under a shade tree with over hanging
branches that will drop leaves into your pond, unless you like cleaning leaves out of it everyday.
It may help to remember while choosing a spot for your pond that water is heavy, about 8
pounds per gallon, the addition of plants and fish will make things pretty heavy so be sure the
area you choose will hold everything plus the pump. Some people like a variety of plants, fish or
accessories in their ponds, while others only want two or three things, this all depends on you
and what pleases your senses. Don t forget to place your garden close to an easily accessible water
source since you will need to replace water levels and keep things fresh and stable everyday.
Next, you will need to decide what type of enclosure you re going to build. Do not use chemically
treated wood since it contains arsenic and is not eco friendly.

Prejudice And Racism In New York University
The other encounter with the world we live in and racism was in college. We lived in an

ethnicities. It was a melting pot just like New York City. My friendship with the other roommates
really opened up my mind to other cultures and understand their differences. It was a very
enlightening experience. We all played sports at the University. Whenever we had free time, our

Comparison Of The Ebola Virus
Essay 1;2014 Comparison of the Ebola outbreak and the CDC study module for Gastroenteritis at a
University in Texas
1) Ebola Virus Belongs to the family Filoviridae. It has a single stranded sRNA genome, so it
uses a RNA polymerase to create the +sRNA template, which acts as mRNA inside the host cell.
The envelope is made up of peptidoglycan; the structure is made up of 7 structural proteins and 1
non structural protein. This means it is an enveloped and susceptible to the outside environment.
The Ebola virus replicates in Monocytes, Macrophages and Dendritic Cells. When the Ebola
virus is ready to leave the host cell it buds out and takes part of the cell membrane with it. Ebola
has an incubation period of 8 10 days. (CDC) Norovirus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These symptoms are also similar to the symptoms caused by the common cold or the flu. Most
people are not going to be running to the emergency room if they have a slight fever, headache,
or nausea. This can make it difficult to contain these viruses once an initial infection happens in
the host. An infected person may travel to another area unaware that they are carrying one of
these diseases. Both of these viruses do not have a vaccine or real treatment. The best ways to
treat these are to let them pass and allow the immune system to fight the virus off. Norovirus is
not as serious as the Ebola and most of the persons infected can fight it off in a few days. Getting
rest and keeping the body healthy. The Ebola is more serious, the fatality rate according to
WHO is 50%. The best way to handle this is to isolate the person and give them IVs and hope
their immune system is strong enough to fight off the virus. If they can fight off the virus they
will recover, but if not then the virus kills the host. Since Ebola has no cure this plays to the
advantage of controlling the virus. When someone has contracted the virus action is taken very
quickly to isolate and quarantine. The source of the virus is put as top priority to stop the spread.
Because it is so serious controlling it when it arises is the number one objective. The Norovirus is
foodborne virus. So tracking the source and removing it in

I Am A Car Insurance
In November 2008 I was on my way to get car insurance, when in an instant my life had changed. It

At this time my license was suspended due to the fact that I had an accident earlier in the year

maternity leave left, then I would be returning back to work, and I still didn t have car insurance. I
just made up in my mind that I didn t care how much It ll cost I have to get this car insured. I
called a couple of places to get a quote, finally I found an insurance company that was reasonably

Family, By Flannery O Connor
In every home, there is a different definition of family and how family should treat each other.
Two short stories were read by an author named Flannery O Connor. A Good Man is Hard to Find .
It was about a dysfunctional family who encounters a criminal named The Misfit . The grandmother
which is the main character is very judgmental towards others and sometimes her own familyat
times. This story starts off with a disagreement on where to go for a family trip, but they decide
on going to Florida for the family trip after a while of arguing. On this trip, it showed what type
of family they are. They talk about everything with one another as well as bicker and fight but at
the end of the day, they are still family and love each other. They come together the most in
panicking situations such as the accident and waiting for a car to help them. The point of this
paper is the theme of family. Specifically, family is a theme in this short storybecause it depicts a
dysfunctional family; the family you see on a crazy television show and can t get enough of
because they re funny but also they have serious moments. There s the two troublesome and
annoying kids, the hot headed dad who tries to maintain control of a situation and fails, the wife
busy attending to the baby, and the grandmother, who s a case all to herself (and also the main
character). Though the story starts out seeming like a comedy, it takes a serious turn when the
family encounters a criminal, who kills them

Tiananmen Analysis
Zach Cowburn
April 18, 2016
The Reach of Tiananmen Throughout history we have seen staggered periods of rising global
democracy. Specifically The third wave is seen as a time of soviet communist satellites and curtain
countries turning democratic. We see great success in democratization in the more western
European former soviet states. Often times these transitions were remarkably peaceful as in the
many colored revolutions. One case that stands out as an example of a failure to democratize is
within China. With many communist states questioning their governance it was natural for Chinese
citizens to express these same idea concerns. What we see though instead of the European style

For the administration inaction was a sign of weakness and of bending to the rebellion at hand.
For almost all of China s civilized history the people have been ruled by an authoritarian empire or
governance. This sort of lax attitude would not be tolerated by the political elite traditionalists. The
protestors and world knew the government would clear the square eventually. They managed to
occupy the square for the famous visit of Mikhail Gorbachev and for some time after. With what
ended up in a virtual standoff between entrenched protestors and the army there was few options
left for trying to effectively run a country with its capital square shut down. Many of the protestors
as well as Chai Ling thought the army would only beat the protestors and use plastic bullets. This
thought while valid in context of rationalized response in a liberal democracy environment does not
fit the political landscape in which the students were involved in. The government considered the
occupation a rebellion and those involved potential enemies of state who escalated the non violent
protests that Tiananmen Square stood for into fire bomb battles with the army. The students did not
understand the position they put themselves in. Due to the lack of leadership there was no defined

London Is The Most Eclectic Megalopolis Of The West
Unusually, I was a late subscriber to the idea of observing deeply into the capital s wonders;
London is possibly the most eclectic megalopolis of the West, it stirs ambition like no other
place, in some professional sectors it s like swimming against the tide if you re not registered in
London. Realistically for me, it probably was six years ago, when I took note of what London
urbanity offers, before then, I was probably too busy, fatigued and self orientated to allow London
a laborious thought in the early noughties; I recall, it took a nudge from famous authors who
resided in the capital, such as Iain Sinclair, J.G. Ballard and Hanif Kureishi, to name a few, who
systematically embraced the capitalwithin their creative works. Their savoir faire wordage spurred
me on to experience London with fresh eyes; I owe much to their observations, they introduced me
to London s identities just enough, so you can muster your own observations and prose. The
process was like peering through a keyhole at collective humanism entirely unique to the voyeur.
For London truly is a collaboration of creativity and creed, to state the City has one identity stroke
congruence is veraciously wrong. London is that versatile, it has a plethora of characteristics, rich
in detail, purpose and belonging; why everyone has an opinion whatever the experience, London
demands respect. Author: Craig Taylortakes this analogy a step further and in the book: Londoners;

Idndividual vs State
Freedoms of choice and self determination have become key features of life that are largely
viewed in Western Europe as natural rights. However, in light of the present global recession, it
can be contemplated if greater state control in present liberal democracies is necessary to ensure
the survival of the state. Whilst some may believe that the individual should remain the main
priority, a liberal society increases inequality and widens the class gap which continues to suppress
the poor. If the focus is primarily on the individual then, overall, society may suffer more than if it
were state driven. The individual versus the state has been long disputed within many fields in

beneficial to society. Although this may guarantee total equality, it goes against the natural state
of man which may lead to the general population being unsatisfied. One needs only to look at the
recent anti government uprisings in Libya whose leader has ruled for forty nine years under an
authoritarian state administration. As such a balance needs to be found which allows the people
some form of freedom whilst providing for state intervention to protect and aid the needy and
vulnerable within the society. Also liberalism allows for total competition, regulated by Adam
Smith s principle of demand and supply. If you have a commodity that is in demand, under a
liberal capitalist theory you should become wealthier as demand increases. Furthermore, if the
commodity is in short supply, scarcity increases its market value (Lipsey, Chrystal, 2007). For
example, due to the Libyan revolts the market value price of oil had once again risen to almost
US$188 per barrel, since less oil is present on the market (BBC, 2011). The individuals

Gender Norms In Elizabethan England
Maggie Coviello
Jaime Jordan
English 242
10/27/14
Shakespeare is known for a multitude of things; His ability to make a play both funny and
dramatic, his compelling and complex story lines, his multi dimensional characters and last but not
least, his strong female leads. Some of his female characters are celebrated to this day for being
original and fierce in their convictions. One thing that makes his female leads really stand out is the
fact that they were created in a time when patriarchy and female submission were norms among
society. They challenged gendernorms, and though he was not the first to write such strong female
characters, he was one of the most widely recognized playwrights of that time. His larger audience

It is believed that he was born in April of 1564. At this point in time, Elizabeth had been on the
throne for just about six years. By the time Shakespeare moved to London in the mid 1580 s, there
had already been a definite shift in political and social mindset, but largely, the norms were the
same as they had always been. For women at this time, there was not a whole lot of decision
making that was left up to them. For the most part, their parents (primarily, their fathers) would
auction them off to the highest bidder. If a woman chose to remain single or was undesirable to
suitors, any responsibility for her finances and well being would fall on the eldest male relative
(Father or Brother). Marriage was the only way for a woman to acquire any title or land. Even
when married, the woman was still entitled to nothing, and had very little options to make money
even if they were allowed to. The only available professions to them were that of housework or
service to nobles. They were not allowed to Act, and it was because of this that most of the plays
performed during that time used boys or young men to play the women, so that their voices would

Osteoporosis Is Caused By The Reduction Of Bone Density...
Osteoporosis is caused by the reduction of bone density and quality; especially in the case of the
spine, hips, and wrists. It is known as the silent epidemic , because this disease has so symptoms
and is usually not noticed until a bone fracture occurs.
Some diagnostic methods are Bone mineral density measurement and classification, Peripheral dual
energy x ray absorptiometry (pDXA), CT based absorptiometry, Quantitative computed tomography
(QCT), and Quantitative ultrasound densitometry (QUS). Patients indicated for these test are ones
who qualify for high risk.
Osteoporosis is mostly found in women that are postmenopausal and in men 50 and older.
Osteoporosis happens with age, poor diet, unhealthy lifestyle, and it can be genetically indicated.
When the body ages, bone creation is decreased, or bone degeneration is increased, or both at the
same time. Without the necessary nutrients and minerals the bones start to thin out or hollow out,
and this causes them to weaken and become fragile.
Post menopausal women and men over 50 are at the highest risk. But there are other factors to
consider. According to the clinician s guide to prevention and treatment of osteoporosis 01/2010,
there are many risk factors to consider. In regards to lifestyle factors these are common causes or
contributions to osteoporosis: Low calcium intake, high caffeine intake, alcohol (3 or more drinks
/per day)smoking ( active or passive) vitamin D insufficiency, high salt intake, inadequate

Essay on Falstaff in Henry IV Part I
The Character of Falstaff in Henry IV Part I
In Henry IV Part I, Shakespeare presents a collection of traditional heroes. Hotspur s laudable
valor, King Henry s militaristic reign, and Hal s princely transformation echo the socially extolled
values of the Elizabethean male. Molding themselves after societal standards, these flat characters
contrast Sir John Falstaff s round, spirited personality. Through Falstaff s unorthodox behavior and
flagrant disregard for cultural traditions, Shakespeare advocates one s personal values above society
s.
Extolled as the essence of Shakespeare s dramatic art (Bloom 299) and ridiculed as the symbol of
self indulgence and vice, the character of Sir John Falstaff, a loquacious knight, ... Show more

But Falstaff s heavily charged.. magnetism..and wit (Stoll 485), surpasses the unpropitious symbol
Wilson and Stoll translate him to be. Whereas Wilson contends that critics who laud Falstaff as
one of the most fascinating characters in literature (Wilson 11) have been bewitched by the old
rascal [Falstaff]...and have contracted the disease of not listening to the play (Wilson 11), other
commentators such as Rupin W. Desai, William Hazlitt, and Harold Bloom believe Falstaff
typifies all that we long to be and are not: free (Goddart 75). Falstaff s jocular nature and piercing
insults disguised as humor symbolize the supremacy of imagination over fact (Goddard 75).
Falstaff s essence invigorate the unfettered spirit of man that resents tyrannical oppression of the
mundane and preordained expectations of society.
Of all the characters in Part I of Henry IV, Falstaff alone changes and develops (Desai 15). Whereas
King Henry IV remains guilt ridden, Hotspur s passion for honour, reputation, and chivalry blinds
him to every other consideraion (Desai 15). Likewise, Hal, ostensibly transformed from rebellious
youth to valiant hero, acknowledges his consistent princely nature is veiled by foul and ugly mists
of vapor that...strangle him (Act I Scene III). Falstaff, alone, adeptly weaves among his static
contemporaries. This eccentric behavior and refusal to comply with society s prevailing practices
provides him with mobility often

The Phenomenon Of Violent Political Islamism
3. Discuss the phenomenon of violent political Islamism. What are its origins, aims and grievances?
How ought we to deal with the phenomenon?
Political Islam, or Islamism, is the instrumental use of Islam to pursue socio political objectives.
Islam in this case is not merely a religious construct, but a political ideology. Individuals, groups,
and organisations pursue political ideas and programs based on Islamic principles and concepts.
They aim to implement Islamic law (Sharia) in both the public and private domain. Islamism is
often mobilised in existing political issues, and has become a vehicle and vocabulary for the
expression of many different agendas in the Muslim world . It is the most dominant ideology in the
Muslim world.
While not all political Islamism is violent, it is undeniable that violent extremism occurs in the
Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. In this essay, I analyse the phenomenon of violent
political Islamism, focusing on the Middle East. I investigate its macro level historical and political
origins, and the micro level factors which influence the use of violence. I discuss its aims and
grievances, and provide suggestions on how to deal with this phenomenon.
Macro level: historical, political, socioeconomic factors
During the 1950s, the West embarked on a mission to overthrow the secular nationalist, communist,

The Mapp Vs. Ohio Court Case
The Mapp vs. Ohio court case took place in Cleveland Ohio when Dollree Mapp was unlawfully
convicted of a felony. On May 23, 1957 at 1:00 P.M., Police appeared at the door of Dollree, who
was currently living with her daughter from a previous marriage, and demanded entrance. They
believed that she was housing a bombing suspect within her home and that she was part of a
gambling crew. Due to the 4th amendment The right of the people to be secure in their persons,
houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated,
and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and
particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized (US
Const. amend. IV), she demanded to see the warrant and until then they were not allowed
entrance. The fourth amendment requires for a search to occur or seizing of possessions, they
only can do that to certain aspect is what the warrant initial was for. For the next two and a half
hours, the police laid siege to the house. Her lawyer appeared on the scene, and one of the
policemen told him that they now had obtained a warrant to search the house, but refused to show it
( Exclusionary Rule). The officers then forced their way into the house by knocking their doors
down and she demanded to see the warrant. Flashing a piece of paper in the air, she snatched it

Symbolism In Beowulf
Can Beowulf be a representation of Christ for the Anglo Saxon era people? Many have
speculated or at least pondered on his actions to be Christ like. When it comes down to it there
are people who claim Beowulf to be Christ like and there are people who say Beowulf is not
Christ like but just pagan folklore or an epic past down from generation to generation. In this
article you will hear reasons as to why he is considered Christ like through his own actions and
free will, you will see this through symbolism, portrayal of Christ, an example of knowing that
they will die, and finally knowing that they will be betrayed by their own followers . So if you
carefully read through this argument of the epic as to why Beowulfis like that, then you can at least
see a glimpse or fully pick up on his Christ like abilities by personality, actions, and patterns....

What was said earlier was that Beowulf was compassionate about his fellow man, he was kindly,
mild, gentle amongst man, and forgiving to his fellow man too. He was like this because he knew
man itself cannot thrive on it s own hate or prejudices but could thrive on life and learning. He
sought out the good in people to motivate them as Jesus Christ did. Beowulf did all of these good
deeds because he did it for the good of man and because he loathed the powers of evil that tempted
man. He did all this for the good of man and because he cared of his people too, in the end of the
epic Beowulf was proven to fight hard and save the treasure for his people so they could thrive
for many years. One other thing Beowulf did to prove this Christ like sense was that he always
thanked god, one example of this is, By favor of God we won the fight, did the deed of valor, and
boldly dared the might of the monster, (Pg. 19) In just that line not only did he thank God but he
was preaching to his men as well like Jesus

Counseling For Alcohol And Drug Abuse
In Counseling for Alcohol and Drug Abuse, the need to use different techniques is an integral part
of the process. Working with an individual that is either entering into recovery or actively in
recovery, the clinician must take their time with introducing the 12 Steps. The individual may not
be open to the 12 Step philosophies at the onset. Addictionis very complex and actively affects the
person on a daily basis; therefore, it is so important to start from the beginning of counseling to
create a structured program. Alcoholics Anonymoushas given a wonderful platform of structure for
the addicted ones to create a safe, solid, 12 Step guideline to follow, in order to maintain Continual
Sobriety, One day at a time. Many counselors... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these false beliefs are that 12 Step programs are Cults, they are for old people, they are
religious, they brainwash people, sometimes they make you want to drink or use after going to a
meeting. These notions are false and inaccurate. It is usually individuals that have gone to the
meetings for a short amount of time and they are unable to sustain consistency. These individuals
do not get involved in service and they often return to using drugs or drinking again due to not
being done, with using substances. In the therapy interaction, these misconceptions must be heard
by the therapist and given ample time in counseling to talk about and unpacked, for further
qualification. This may take time and patients to hear these feelings and to process with the client.
In facilitating effective treatment while counseling, it is imperative that a person be listened to
and validated for their feelings. It is the counselor s job to find an opening to interject and
challenge the client to see how thorough they were in their attempt to gain sobriety. Usually in
doing this, the clinician is able to allow the client to see some of the half measures they took at
these past attempts and failures. In the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous in How it Works, it
reads, Half measures availed us nothing. We stood at the turning point, we asked His protection and
care with complete abandon. These are the areas that allow

Iola Leroy Little Women
On their surfaces, Little Women and Iola Leroy share as many similarities as they do differences.
Both are set during and after the American Civil War, and both detail the lives of women, though
the circumstances of the heroines could scarcely be more different. Little Women s Jo March
belongs to a poor but comfortable white, northern family sympathetic to the Union cause. Iola
Leroy, on the other hand, endures a tumultuous life that takes her from a plantation owner s
daughter, to a slave, to an activist for racial justice. However, despite the obvious dissimilarities, the
texts share several important qualities. Each text espouses a clear moral directive: Little Women

Jo also refuses to marry Laurie because she does not truly love him. Of course, it would be
difficult to argue that Jo s marriage to Laurie would be as disharmonious with the text s moral
stance as Amy s intended betrothal to Fred Vaughn indeed, it is probable that many readers
would have preferred it over Jo s marriage to Mr. Bhaer. Jo s affection for Laurie is not
predicated on his wealth, and it must be said that the Laurences use their wealth nobly. However,
while we can say that Laurie does not contradict the novel s moral ideal, Jo s marriage to him
would do little to advance it, particularly if the reader is to accept Mrs. March s assessment that
Jo and Laurie would fare poorly as a couple. Mr. Bhaer, by contrast, aids in Jo s moral
development. He dissuades her from writing sensation stories, likening their publication to the sale
of alcohol with the argument that there is a demand for whisky, but I think you and I do not care to
sell it. (Alcott 280) When Jo protests that authors of sensation stories are trying to make an honest
wage, Mr. Bhaer contends that if the authors, knew what harm they did, they would not feel that the
living was honest, (Alcott 280) reiterating the novel s underlying moral directive that wealth should
never be a cause to sacrifice morality, dignity, or happiness. Jo and Mr. Bhaer s marriage signifies
Jo s ultimate acceptance of the lesson her mother set out to teach her, and both their sons and the
students at their school guarantee that the morally improved society resulting from their betrothal

Conflicting Opinions Over the Popular Front Government in...
After the ruling of the corrupt King Alfonso XIII and the horrible massacre the army faced when it
was sent to Spanish Morocco, the progressive Popular Front government was elected. In 1936, with
the promise of land reform, the conservative forces gathered to plan for resistance. The Spanish left
wing, on the other hand, celebrated the elections so joyfully that made the conservative military
officers, capitalists and churchman worried that a much broader reform would begin. Rumors of
plotting for a military coup led the Republicans to send high ranking military officers to remote
postings in order to make communication and coordination between them more challenging.
However, it was not enough, the planning for a military uprising continued. When the military
coup failed to gain control of the entire country, the civil war started between the Nationalists and
the Republicans. The Nationalists received aid from Italy ( at the time, fascist and under the
control of *******) and from the Nazi Germany. The Republicans, however, received aid from the
Soviet Union and from the International Brigades (composed of volunteers from Europe and the
United States). The war was the result of the polarization of the Spanish life and politics that
developed over the previous decades since it s monarchic government. Roman Catholics,
businessman and landowners were the most notable components of the Nationalist side. At the
time, the Republic was considered to be a danger to the

One Ring In The Hobbit
A symbol in The Hobbit is the One Ring. Rings normally symbolise eternity, and longevity because
a circle has no ending, but the One Ring symbolised both good and evil characteristics, like power
and commitment, but temptation and having no control. In the story, one example of someone who
had no control was Gollum, the corrupted hobbit. Gollum started out as a nice hobbit named
SmГ©agol, but he inadvertently found the One Ringand became addicted to it. He had no control
over what he was doing, and was tempted by the ring s power and kept on using it. Finally he
became fully corrupted and called the ring my precious and he started screaming and crying
when Bilbo took the One Ring from him. The book says: He wanted it because it was a ring of
power, and if you slipped that ring on your finger, you were invisible; only in full sunlight could
you be seen, and then only by your shadow, and that would be shaky and faint. The book also says
this: Gollum used to wear it at first, till it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the situation with the dwarves was very sad and dreary, and when there isn t a lot of hope
in the adventurers, it starts raining. Rain usually symbolises sadness and mourning, and when it
rains the adventurers are in despair over losing their items and having no shelter. The book says:
The lightning splinters on the peaks, and rocks shiver, and great crashes split the air and go
rolling and tumbling into every cave and hollow; and the darkness is filled with overwhelming
noise and light. Bilbo had never seen or imagined anything of the kind. They were high up in a
narrow place, with a dreadful fall into a dim valley on one side. There they were sheltering under
a hanging rock for the night, and he lay beneath a blanket and shook from head to toe. This quote
was when the adventurers were trying to reach their destination, but were stopped by bad weather,
and they were feeling very scared and didn t know what was up

The Two Most Common Forms Of Phosphorus
The next macronutrient is phosphorus. Two most common forms of phosphorus are white
phosphorus, made up of phosphorus atoms and arranged like a tetrahedron, and red phosphorus
which is a non crystalline but solid form of the element. Another form is black phosphorus, where
it comes from the arrangement of the atoms in the form of a ring structure and looks similarly
like the graphite (Stephanie, 2015). However, this element is never considered as a free element
on Earth due to its high reactivity. The presence of P in the plants help the normal growth and
maturity of the plants. According to Busman and his friends (2002), one of the main roles of P in
living organisms is in the transfer of energy. Organic compounds are used P to transfer energy

Higher Education Attorneys
College and universities deal with a myriad of issues that impact students, faculty, and
administrators. Mattie (2007) asserts risk can be defined as any issue that impacts an institution s
ability to meet its objectives (p. 3). Issues like sexual harassment, student discipline, free speech,
academic misconduct, tenure, race and religion are risk but how they are managed can impact
institutions. This review will examine Carol L. J. Hustoles 2012 dissertation Through the Eyes of
Higher EducationAttorneys: How Department Chairs Are Navigating the Waters of Legal Issues
and Risk Management. The dissertation discussed what institutional risk management is and the

Based on some of the findings from the study, it is suggested that institutions should: be proactively
providing training for their department chairs on legal and risk management issues while involving
legal counsel in training, increase the amount of training chairpersons receive, continuously involve
campus attorneys in issues that arise, and chairs should become familiar with the provisions in
collective bargaining. The study conducted by Hustoles provides great insight into how attorneys
view the role and performance of administrators. Although risk management is the task of everyone
on campus, attorneys have to deal with all legal issues on campus. Hustoles (2012) study also
sought to fill in the literature gap as there is no literature that discusses the attorneys view in risk
management. According to Hustoles this is the only study that offers that data. The study can be
beneficial to institutions as they train administrators to deal with risk

Intimacy Gaps
1) A positive correlation that can be made between college education and income is that
individuals who have completed more years of education, ensuring mastery of their field, have a
greater chance of obtaining employment with higher earning potential. Likewise, the desire to
secure higher income in the future stimulates the drive of some college students to invest more
time into studying giving them the potential to earn higher grades which leads to a higher GPA,
something that employers consider when judging applicants. There could also be a hidden
variable such as one s work ethic and an innate higher level of skill, which causes them to excel
whether they are highly educated or not. It is my belief that the most likely correlation of the three
is the hidden variable of work ethic. An individual with very little formal educationor who was a C
student at best that has a great work ethic and natural skill in there field of choice has just as much
of an opportunity to work hard and eventually earn the higher income.

A third variable that can affect intimacy and self disclosure is one s personality. If some one is
an extrovert they will likely share more willingly than say a reserved introverted personality type.
Of the correlations the mostly is that the more that self disclosure is implemented the more likely
a greater level of intimacy will develop because the more that one shares about themselves a level
of trust forms leading to greater levels of familiarity and

Advertising Strategy for a New Product
1. Design a new product. (A modification to a current product will do.) What advertising
strategy for the promotion of this new product would you use and why? The new product being
produced is a state of the art tablet PC that has EV DO technology embedded within it. EV DO is
the technology that allows cell phones to stay connected to the Internet via 3G and 4G signals
at all times; it has never been implemented in a tablet PC yet. The advertising strategy for this
product will concentrate on freedom and agility of those having the tablet PC, showing how
they can leave their laptop and desktop computers at home while traveling, going to school or
going on vacation. With freedom from clunky PCs being the unique value proposition of this
product, the advertising will be heavily slanted to digital media, specifically those channels that
best connect with mobile devices. The target market for this tablet PC will be smartphone users
who want to do more while away from their traditional PCs. Social media including Facebook,
Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn will be used, in conjunction with opt in landing pages on the
company s website and blog. There will also be contests for tablet PC users to generate their own
videos showing how they use the device. This will further generate excitement with other potential
customers and give existing customers a strong sense of identity with the brand. In addition to all
of these strategies, a print based strategy will be used in a few of

Research Paper On The Abrahamic Covenant
Deals are made between people daily, whether one person must owe something or both have a
repayment to make. The deal between Abraham and God is referred to the Abrahamic Covenant.
This covenant between Abraham and God is said to be unconditional because God has debts owed
to Abraham. God promises Abraham land and to spreadhis offspring across the land, while
Abraham has nothing to owe to God. However, Abraham does pay God in a spiritual way. Unlike
the physical gifts that God promises to Abraham, Abraham spreads the word of God, builds alters,
and praises, obeys, worships, and fears God. The Abrahamic Covenant would then be considered as
conditional. The Abrahamic Covenant is introduced in Genesis 12:1 3 with God promising
Abraham a great nation, abundant blessings, a significant name, and to bless those who bless
Abraham, while cursing those who curse him. In verse seven, God then shows the land that he will
grant to Abraham s offspring.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, without Abraham following through with all of the actions he took there is no
possible way that God could have trusted Abraham to spread his faith. God delayed giving
Abraham all of the promised expectations for years to ensure that he was ready. Abraham
received all that was promised to him in the covenant and God has received what he expected
with his faith still spreading today. The Abrahamic Covenant can be viewed as conditional
through the findings in multiple chapters of Genesis. Abraham receives the promises God gives
while God has his faith grown through Abraham and his offspring. The difference between God s
and Abraham s promises is that God explained what he would do for Abraham, yet Abraham did
not know what he was giving for God. This covenant was made between Abraham and God over
many years, as are some deals today. Whether conditional or unconditional, deals between people
will always have a place in

Sociological Aspects Of Social Psychology
Social Psychology
According to Gordon Allport , social psychology is an attempt to understand and explain how the
thought, feeling, and behavior of individuals is influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied
presence of others. (Allport, 1954)
There are two differing branches when referring to social psychology:
1. The sociological aspect of social psychology, which was mainly developed in Europe as a
subdivision of sociology.
2. The psychological aspect of social psychology, which was developed in the US
The differences between the two divisions are, that the sociological way of viewing social
psychology focusses more on group interaction, group processes, while the psychological aspects
of social psychology focusses more on the individual and how the individual is influenced and/or
behaves in social settings.
Sociological social psychology is very theory intensive and constructs itself out of
geisteswissenschaften (sciences of the spirit) and social sciences. Corresponding approaches are i.e.
critical theories, which also include psychoanalytical ideas. Some of the more notable sociological
psychologists include Sigmund Freud, Erich Fromm and Wilhelm Reich.
Coming back to the psychological branch of social psychology, we see its intentions lies in an
attempt to understand and explain how the thought, feelings and behavior of individuals are
influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others (Allport, The Person in
Psychology, 1968) Quantitative

Salt Concentration And Density Affects Floating Objects
The purpose of this experiment is to determine how salt concentration and density affects floating
objects. The control is water not having salt, and the constant variables are the amount of water in
each cup and the objects. The independent variable is the amount of salt added in the cup. The
dependent variable is the height of the water and the densityof the water.
Background Research
How do objects float on water? The density and buoyancy are properties of matter that determine
how objects float on water. Density shows the amount of mass in the volume of an object. For
example, the density of water is one gram per cubic centimeter. It is a property that the quantity or
shape does not affect the density of the material. This means that ... Show more content on

Along with this, if the first hypothesis is correct then the amount of salt will determine if the object
floats or sinks. The data from the experiment supports my hypothesis, showing that the more salt
that is added, the higher the object will float. Because of the water interaction with salt, it affects
whether the object floats or not. The salt concentration may differ for each object when doing an
experiment. For instance, when an experiment was done, the marbles, eggs, and bouncy balls
needed different amounts of salt to float. When substances dissolve in a liquid the density of the

Nintendo Gamecube Essay
Even though the Nintendo Gamecube was not selling like the extremely popular Play Station 2,
and the questionable design, the console was still popular. Many companies praised Nintendo for
what they were trying to do saying that Nintendo was trying something abstract and unique
(Kennley, D).
The Nintendo Gamecube had a successful lifespan that were building blocks Nintendo still uses
today. There were multiple game series that made first time appearances on the console like
Pikmin, Luigi s Mansion, Metroid, and Star Fox Fighter. The Gamecube also built on many titles
that were well established titles. These included Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers, the Mario

Microsoft modified their DirectX and made it into the Xbox. Since Microsoft built the Xbox from a
computer it was extremely powerful compared to Sony s Play Station 2, Nintendo s Gamecube,
and Sega s Dreamcast (Goss, P). Microsoft was concerned if they would get support from 3rd
developers because it was the first video game console they produced. It would also be the last
console made in North America.
The head of Microsoft, Bill Gates, first introduced the console at the Game Developers
Conference in 2000 and it was a huge success. Bill went on to tell everyone that the Xbox was not
just another console, it was going to be the most powerful console to date (Marshall, R).
After Bill announced the new system Microsoft spent $50 million to advertise the new system.
Microsoft s main goal with their expensive marketing campaign was to get consumers exposed to
the new system and to new features it would bring to the gaming industry.
The Xbox was released on November 15, 2001 in North America, February 22, 2002 in Japan,
and March 14, 2002 in Australia and Europe. The console sold decent in North America because
it was American maid. When it was released in in Japan and the other countries, the console did
not sell as well ( ). The release of the console was not as successful as Microsoft intended and this
lead the company to drop the price. On

The Three Sciences
The three sciences and their knowledge
How knowledge produced is influenced by vocabulary and environmental conditions
In the world of science, there are three main categories which cover many other disciplines. These
three main groups are the natural sciences, the social sciences and humanities. As the name natural
sciences indicates, the main focus of this particular group of scientists is to find regularities in the
irregular world of today. They would create formulas and structures to illustrate movement. The
social sciences shed light on how people feel and what they go through. Some of the disciplines that
fall under the social sciences are psychology and political science. This means that social scientists
focus on people related ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difference in knowledge typically produced by these sciences is highly influenced by the
effects environmental circumstances have on the research that is conducted. Vocabulary use is very
different among the three sciences. in the first case mentioned it is clear that it has an influence on
the knowledge, however, the second case shows that it changes the context rather than that it
influences the knowledge. The main difference in vocabulary lies in the fact that the sciences lay
their focus on different aspects. This means that even if they research the same person, they can still
have very different results. Furthermore, the conducted research can be influenced by many
environmental factors which impact the end results and so the knowledge produced. Even though
the natural sciences can often control the conditions they work in, this does not mean that this does
not have an influence on the results. As the social sciences and humanities do not have the direct
possibility of controlling the conditions they do their research in, this means that these conditions
have a large effect on the knowledge eventually produced. In this way the three sciences are very
different, which causes the knowledge produced differ greatly as

The Challenges Of Immigrants In South Africa
Countless United states citizens declare that immigrants come to the United States to break the
law, take jobs away from natives, and seek aid from the government. Many do not stop to ask the
question why immigrants come to this country? Or why are they willing to work at such a low
wage? Coming from immigrant family myself, I have been judged and condemned by my
background. But no one has bothered to ask my background story of what is feels to come from
an immigrant family. I feel no shame and I feel proud where I came from, several will say horrible
things about immigrants. Still I am one of the millions of immigrants that are in this country going
through similar challenges. As president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, once mention Do not
judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.
I grew up in a Mexican household, even though I was born in the US. My first language was
Spanish. My parents use to work in the tobacco fields from 4:00 am all the way to 6:00pm in a
good day. While in school I was teased for not being able to speak English; or for dressing funny,
and always smelling like a farm, eating weird foods. I felt depressed at moments, but thankfully
my mother would always keep my mind busy. She would say The only people that are rich in life
are not the ones with money in their pockets, it s the ones that doesn t think twice to lend a hand to
someone in need.

Prince Of Egypt Character Analysis
The play Prince of Egypt directed by Scott Schwartz an American child actor who participated in
Toy Story and now a director has shown his vision of the marvelous play in the Silicon Valley
TheatreWorks. Additionally, the play itself is dramatic and musical. To sum the play, an orphan
Hebrew was found near the river and was brought into one of the most prestigious family in Egypt.
A huge amount of time has passed seeing Moses(Hebrew child) and Ramses (Son of the Pharaoh)
growing up together into adults. However, a war caused the sickness or death of the Pharaoh,
which leads Ramses to be the new leader. Moses and Ramses has a strong bond between each
other, until Moses finds out his true identity; which is being born as a Hebrew. Eventually finding
out his true self, his goals were to free the Hebrews being captive by the Pharaoh, which in this
case it is now Ramses. With hard work and determination, Moses has fulfilled his duty to free his
people. In the ending of the play, I was amazed and enjoyed the play. Therefore, I wished for
another seeing of this beautiful work just by how the themes, plot, creative staging, and the
passion of the director is put out there to everyone else. The theme of the play has a sense of
nationality and or slavery which is still relatable today. Seeing that being displayed in a creative
way into a play was just outstanding. To illustrate, Moses was suppose to be grouped into slavery
or low class, but has lived like a prince.
Implying that,

  • 2. Social And Cultural Belief On Art Practice Ouroborus Introduction The brief for this assignment is as I see it to research more than 8 carving cultures and to explain the impact of social and cultural belief on art practice. To present research material in the correct form and record citations and bibliography correctly. This information is based on the question. Is the Ouroborus relevant to our culture of carving from a personal, local and global view point? Within this essay I will try to provide information that explains what Ouroborus is, investigate and include text that links the Ouroborus to many different carving cultures that the Ouroborus has had or still does have an effect on, and cover some of the many different impacts this symbol has an those cultures. (Google.co.nz, 2015) [1] What is meaning of Ouroborus The following are two different meanings from different sources. 1. The ouroboros from the Greek (ОїбЅђПЃОїОІПЊПЃОїП‚ бЅ„П†О№П‚ tail devouring snake) is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail. The ouroboros often symbolizes self reflexivity or cyclicality, especially in the sense of something constantly re creating itself, the eternal return, and other things such as the phoenix which operate in cycles that begin anew as soon as they end. It can also represent the idea of primordial unity related to something existing in or persisting from the beginning with such force or qualities it cannot be extinguished. Analysis Of Waffle House Operations Express Technology is evolving more and more every day, making it nearly impossible to be employed without at least some knowledge of technology such as cell phones, computers, and the internet. As a result of the consistent increase in technology, human resource management (HRM) is evolving into a technology based function in many organizations. Several HRM services have been made available through the use of technology, changing the face of HR from a person to a portal. The practice of human resource managementhas drastically changed as companies provide universal access to HR services through technology and web based applications. The term E HR refers to the use of web based technology for human resource service delivery (Johnson, 2011).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Waffle House s portal (Ops Express) serves as an intranet resource to all employees, in which the page s functionality depends on the type of employee accessing it. HRMs can access the portal as an HRMS, upper management can obtain resources and documents necessary for their jobs, and unit managers can gain access to their payroll stubs and training. Employee Productivity Waffle House requires its unit managers to have cell phones in order to call in their sales numbers to their district manager every day. The company also requires the managers to have internet access so that they can access metrics reports as they are uploaded to the portal; this allows managers to be aware of their performance by the day. Managers are also paid a monthly bonus based off of their performance so they are able to access what bonuses they should be expecting as well. The district, division, and area managers have access to these reports as well; however they can also access performance management documents and disciplinary forms (Waffle House Info Portal, 2010). Improvements to improve the employee productivity technology would be to have all company metrics reports to show the employees production benchmarked against the other unit managers across the company. This way the employees know the expectations and could reach out to the top performing managers for tips and best practices. T Staffing Systems Technology required for staffing systems at ... • 4. Wombs And Reproductive Rights According to Carmen Shalev (1989) and John Robertson (1994), both of them libertarians and progressives, women are free to do whatever they want to do and feel is proper to do with their wombs and reproductive capacity. Shalev goes further and, at least once in her famous book Birth Power , she states that a womanholds the right to make a profit from her womb just as any other person holds the same right to obtain benefits from the private property she has accumulated throughout her life. I object to this argument due to its lack of clarity. It seems that, in Shalev s view, women are a certain type of owners of reproductive property that is just waiting to be exploited for profit purposes. Shalev points this out in the name of women s power to decide the best way to make money. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The vizier Ptahhotep discloses in The Maxims of Good Discourse different practical advices on listening and speaking, reveling that the secret for becoming a great speaker is listening to others; to remain silent until the moment one has acquired enough knowledgefrom the elders (Ptahhotep, 13). Meanwhile, Plato in Euthyphro shares the manuscript a dialogue between his teacher, Socrates, and Euthyphro in which Socrates requests Euthyphro to provide him the meaning of piety in order to use it in his defense in court. Conversely, the fool who does not listen, can accomplish nothing at all (13), meaning that people have a lot to lose if they fail to listen to counsel. A community is a collection of said individuals, with common interests and values, who take up community responsibilities to ensure that the collection holds objective standards that are beneficiary to all. Even though these concepts are intrinsically linked, in that one cannot survive without the other, there is often a desire to separate them and define where one ends and the other begins. Human social life can often be seen as a unity of two seemingly contradictory behavioral ideas: status competition and reciprocity. Status competition is the practice of striving to establish... Considering the teacher student relationship between Socrates and Plato, similarities between the two s philosophies are quite obvious, though they might be conveyed in different ways. In The Apology, Socrates presents his defense to his jurors when on trial for teaching nontraditional philosophies and, allegedly, affecting the community adversely. In this account, Socrates explains that his behavior stems from a prophecy by the oracle at Delphi which claimed that he was the wisest of all men. Recognizing his ignorance in most worldly affairs, Socrates concluded that he must be wiser than other men only in that he is aware of his own lack of knowledge. In order to spread this peculiar wisdom, Socrates explains that he considers it his duty to question supposed wise men and to expose their false wisdom as ignorance. In a famous passage, Socrates says that God specially appointed him to the city, as though it were a large thoroughbred horse which because of its great size is inclined to be lazy and needs the stimulation of some stinging fly (The Apology, 30e). • 8. Childhood Obesity And Its Effects On The United States Today Introduction With the recently documented increases in prevalence s dating as late back as to 1980, pediatric obesity now represents one of the most pressing nutritional problems facing children in the United States today. International population studies report comparable rates of increase, so that if current trends remain unchecked, childhood obesity is likely to challenge worldwide public health. Substantial consequences to physical and mental health, both short and long term, must be anticipated. Unfortunately, there is no uniform definition of childhood obesity. Childhood obesity has been variously described by absolute weight , triceps skinfolds , weight for height percentiles, percent of ideal body weight and, most recently, by body mass index (BMI weight in kg=height in meters squared). Although these measures reflect slightly different aspects of body composition or body size, they are moderately well correlated with body fat, even in growing children. In addition to the lack of consistency in the anthropometric measure , the degree of obesity varies from study to study; however, for the majority of studies, a BMI greater than either the 85th or 95th percentile, or a weight for height greater than 120% of ideal was considered obese. Although for most children, complications of childhood obesity do not become apparent for decades, the metabolic consequences of obesity may be already evident in young children. Even a young child, if severely obese, can suffer serious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. How To Make A Water Garden Essay You can have a beautiful and calming water garden no matter how much or how little space you have. All you need is a weekend and a little planning to have all the beauty, tranquility and calming atmosphere you desire at an affordable price. Your first decision will be to find a spot for your garden. Most people choose spots where there is a good amount of shade in the afternoon and early evening. You will need at least five hours of good sunlight a day for your water plants since most water plants need direct sunlight to survive and be healthy. It s not recommended that you place your water gardendirectly under a shade tree with over hanging branches that will drop leaves into your pond, unless you like cleaning leaves out of it everyday. It may help to remember while choosing a spot for your pond that water is heavy, about 8 pounds per gallon, the addition of plants and fish will make things pretty heavy so be sure the area you choose will hold everything plus the pump. Some people like a variety of plants, fish or accessories in their ponds, while others only want two or three things, this all depends on you and what pleases your senses. Don t forget to place your garden close to an easily accessible water source since you will need to replace water levels and keep things fresh and stable everyday. Next, you will need to decide what type of enclosure you re going to build. Do not use chemically treated wood since it contains arsenic and is not eco friendly. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Comparison Of The Ebola Virus Essay 1;2014 Comparison of the Ebola outbreak and the CDC study module for Gastroenteritis at a University in Texas 1) Ebola Virus Belongs to the family Filoviridae. It has a single stranded sRNA genome, so it uses a RNA polymerase to create the +sRNA template, which acts as mRNA inside the host cell. The envelope is made up of peptidoglycan; the structure is made up of 7 structural proteins and 1 non structural protein. This means it is an enveloped and susceptible to the outside environment. The Ebola virus replicates in Monocytes, Macrophages and Dendritic Cells. When the Ebola virus is ready to leave the host cell it buds out and takes part of the cell membrane with it. Most people are not going to be running to the emergency room if they have a slight fever, headache, or nausea. This can make it difficult to contain these viruses once an initial infection happens in the host. An infected person may travel to another area unaware that they are carrying one of these diseases. Both of these viruses do not have a vaccine or real treatment. The best ways to treat these are to let them pass and allow the immune system to fight the virus off. Norovirus is not as serious as the Ebola and most of the persons infected can fight it off in a few days. Getting rest and keeping the body healthy. The Ebola is more serious, the fatality rate according to WHO is 50%. The best way to handle this is to isolate the person and give them IVs and hope their immune system is strong enough to fight off the virus. If they can fight off the virus they will recover, but if not then the virus kills the host. Since Ebola has no cure this plays to the advantage of controlling the virus. When someone has contracted the virus action is taken very quickly to isolate and quarantine. The source of the virus is put as top priority to stop the spread. • 16. Family, By Flannery O Connor In every home, there is a different definition of family and how family should treat each other. Two short stories were read by an author named Flannery O Connor. A Good Man is Hard to Find . It was about a dysfunctional family who encounters a criminal named The Misfit . The grandmother which is the main character is very judgmental towards others and sometimes her own familyat times. This story starts off with a disagreement on where to go for a family trip, but they decide on going to Florida for the family trip after a while of arguing. On this trip, it showed what type of family they are. They talk about everything with one another as well as bicker and fight but at the end of the day, they are still family and love each other. They come together the most in panicking situations such as the accident and waiting for a car to help them. The point of this paper is the theme of family. Specifically, family is a theme in this short storybecause it depicts a dysfunctional family; the family you see on a crazy television show and can t get enough of because they re funny but also they have serious moments. There s the two troublesome and annoying kids, the hot headed dad who tries to maintain control of a situation and fails, the wife busy attending to the baby, and the grandmother, who s a case all to herself (and also the main character). London Is The Most Eclectic Megalopolis Of The West Unusually, I was a late subscriber to the idea of observing deeply into the capital s wonders; London is possibly the most eclectic megalopolis of the West, it stirs ambition like no other place, in some professional sectors it s like swimming against the tide if you re not registered in London. Realistically for me, it probably was six years ago, when I took note of what London urbanity offers, before then, I was probably too busy, fatigued and self orientated to allow London a laborious thought in the early noughties; I recall, it took a nudge from famous authors who resided in the capital, such as Iain Sinclair, J.G. Their savoir faire wordage spurred me on to experience London with fresh eyes; I owe much to their observations, they introduced me to London s identities just enough, so you can muster your own observations and prose. Whilst some may believe that the individual should remain the main priority, a liberal society increases inequality and widens the class gap which continues to suppress the poor. If the focus is primarily on the individual then, overall, society may suffer more than if it were state driven. The individual versus the state has been long disputed within many fields in academia. From psychology to sociology and literature to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nonetheless, based on the findings written by Hobbes, the individual should not be given total freedom to do as he pleases. Acting within self interest allows for the formulation of greed and exploitation of peerage in the journey to attain more wealth. Neither can total control be beneficial to society. Although this may guarantee total equality, it goes against the natural state of man which may lead to the general population being unsatisfied. One needs only to look at the recent anti government uprisings in Libya whose leader has ruled for forty nine years under an authoritarian state administration. As such a balance needs to be found which allows the people some form of freedom whilst providing for state intervention to protect and aid the needy and vulnerable within the society. Also liberalism allows for total competition, regulated by Adam Smith s principle of demand and supply. If you have a commodity that is in demand, under a liberal capitalist theory you should become wealthier as demand increases. Furthermore, if the commodity is in short supply, scarcity increases its market value (Lipsey, Chrystal, 2007). For example, due to the Libyan revolts the market value price of oil had once again risen to almost US$188 per barrel, since less oil is present on the market (BBC, 2011). The individuals ... Gender Norms In Elizabethan England Maggie Coviello Jaime Jordan English 242 10/27/14 Shakespeare is known for a multitude of things; His ability to make a play both funny and dramatic, his compelling and complex story lines, his multi dimensional characters and last but not least, his strong female leads. Some of his female characters are celebrated to this day for being original and fierce in their convictions. One thing that makes his female leads really stand out is the fact that they were created in a time when patriarchy and female submission were norms among society. At this point in time, Elizabeth had been on the throne for just about six years. By the time Shakespeare moved to London in the mid 1580 s, there had already been a definite shift in political and social mindset, but largely, the norms were the same as they had always been. For women at this time, there was not a whole lot of decision making that was left up to them. For the most part, their parents (primarily, their fathers) would auction them off to the highest bidder. If a woman chose to remain single or was undesirable to suitors, any responsibility for her finances and well being would fall on the eldest male relative (Father or Brother). Marriage was the only way for a woman to acquire any title or land. Even when married, the woman was still entitled to nothing, and had very little options to make money even if they were allowed to. The only available professions to them were that of housework or service to nobles. Political Islam, or Islamism, is the instrumental use of Islam to pursue socio political objectives. Islam in this case is not merely a religious construct, but a political ideology. Individuals, groups, and organisations pursue political ideas and programs based on Islamic principles and concepts. They aim to implement Islamic law (Sharia) in both the public and private domain. Islamism is often mobilised in existing political issues, and has become a vehicle and vocabulary for the expression of many different agendas in the Muslim world . When it comes down to it there are people who claim Beowulf to be Christ like and there are people who say Beowulf is not Christ like but just pagan folklore or an epic past down from generation to generation. In this article you will hear reasons as to why he is considered Christ like through his own actions and free will, you will see this through symbolism, portrayal of Christ, an example of knowing that they will die, and finally knowing that they will be betrayed by their own followers . Beowulf did all of these good deeds because he did it for the good of man and because he loathed the powers of evil that tempted man. He did all this for the good of man and because he cared of his people too, in the end of the epic Beowulf was proven to fight hard and save the treasure for his people so they could thrive for many years. Jo s affection for Laurie is not predicated on his wealth, and it must be said that the Laurences use their wealth nobly. However, while we can say that Laurie does not contradict the novel s moral ideal, Jo s marriage to him would do little to advance it, particularly if the reader is to accept Mrs. March s assessment that Jo and Laurie would fare poorly as a couple. The Spanish left wing, on the other hand, celebrated the elections so joyfully that made the conservative military officers, capitalists and churchman worried that a much broader reform would begin. Rings normally symbolise eternity, and longevity because a circle has no ending, but the One Ring symbolised both good and evil characteristics, like power and commitment, but temptation and having no control. In the story, one example of someone who had no control was Gollum, the corrupted hobbit. Gollum started out as a nice hobbit named SmГ©agol, but he inadvertently found the One Ringand became addicted to it. He had no control over what he was doing, and was tempted by the ring s power and kept on using it. Finally he became fully corrupted and called the ring my precious and he started screaming and crying when Bilbo took the One Ring from him. The book says: He wanted it because it was a ring of power, and if you slipped that ring on your finger, you were invisible; only in full sunlight could you be seen, and then only by your shadow, and that would be shaky and faint. The book also says this: Gollum used to wear it at first, till it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book says: The lightning splinters on the peaks, and rocks shiver, and great crashes split the air and go rolling and tumbling into every cave and hollow; and the darkness is filled with overwhelming noise and light. Bilbo had never seen or imagined anything of the kind. They were high up in a narrow place, with a dreadful fall into a dim valley on one side. There they were sheltering under a hanging rock for the night, and he lay beneath a blanket and shook from head to toe. Two most common forms of phosphorus are white phosphorus, made up of phosphorus atoms and arranged like a tetrahedron, and red phosphorus which is a non crystalline but solid form of the element. Another form is black phosphorus, where it comes from the arrangement of the atoms in the form of a ring structure and looks similarly like the graphite (Stephanie, 2015). However, this element is never considered as a free element on Earth due to its high reactivity. The presence of P in the plants help the normal growth and maturity of the plants. Mattie (2007) asserts risk can be defined as any issue that impacts an institution s ability to meet its objectives (p. 3). Issues like sexual harassment, student discipline, free speech, academic misconduct, tenure, race and religion are risk but how they are managed can impact institutions. This review will examine Carol L. J. Hustoles 2012 dissertation Through the Eyes of Higher EducationAttorneys: How Department Chairs Are Navigating the Waters of Legal Issues and Risk Management. Based on some of the findings from the study, it is suggested that institutions should: be proactively providing training for their department chairs on legal and risk management issues while involving legal counsel in training, increase the amount of training chairpersons receive, continuously involve campus attorneys in issues that arise, and chairs should become familiar with the provisions in collective bargaining. The study conducted by Hustoles provides great insight into how attorneys view the role and performance of administrators. Although risk management is the task of everyone on campus, attorneys have to deal with all legal issues on campus. Hustoles (2012) study also sought to fill in the literature gap as there is no literature that discusses the attorneys view in risk management. According to Hustoles this is the only study that offers that data. The study can be beneficial to institutions as they train administrators to deal with risk ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Intimacy Gaps 1) A positive correlation that can be made between college education and income is that individuals who have completed more years of education, ensuring mastery of their field, have a greater chance of obtaining employment with higher earning potential. Likewise, the desire to secure higher income in the future stimulates the drive of some college students to invest more time into studying giving them the potential to earn higher grades which leads to a higher GPA, something that employers consider when judging applicants. There could also be a hidden variable such as one s work ethic and an innate higher level of skill, which causes them to excel whether they are highly educated or not. It is my belief that the most likely correlation of the three is the hidden variable of work ethic. An individual with very little formal educationor who was a C student at best that has a great work ethic and natural skill in there field of choice has just as much of an opportunity to work hard and eventually earn the higher income. 2) Two positive correlations that can be made between exercise and weight loss are that the more /longer a person runs the more calories ... What advertising strategy for the promotion of this new product would you use and why? The new product being produced is a state of the art tablet PC that has EV DO technology embedded within it. EV DO is the technology that allows cell phones to stay connected to the Internet via 3G and 4G signals at all times; it has never been implemented in a tablet PC yet. The advertising strategy for this product will concentrate on freedom and agility of those having the tablet PC, showing how they can leave their laptop and desktop computers at home while traveling, going to school or going on vacation. With freedom from clunky PCs being the unique value proposition of this product, the advertising will be heavily slanted to digital media, specifically those channels that best connect with mobile devices. The target market for this tablet PC will be smartphone users who want to do more while away from their traditional PCs. Social media including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn will be used, in conjunction with opt in landing pages on the company s website and blog. There will also be contests for tablet PC users to generate their own videos showing how they use the device. • 47. Research Paper On The Abrahamic Covenant Deals are made between people daily, whether one person must owe something or both have a repayment to make. The deal between Abraham and God is referred to the Abrahamic Covenant. This covenant between Abraham and God is said to be unconditional because God has debts owed to Abraham. God promises Abraham land and to spreadhis offspring across the land, while Abraham has nothing to owe to God. However, Abraham does pay God in a spiritual way. Unlike the physical gifts that God promises to Abraham, Abraham spreads the word of God, builds alters, and praises, obeys, worships, and fears God. The Abrahamic Covenant would then be considered as conditional. The Abrahamic Covenant is introduced in Genesis 12:1 3 with God promising Abraham a great nation, abundant blessings, a significant name, and to bless those who bless Abraham, while cursing those who curse him. In verse seven, God then shows the land that he will grant to Abraham s offspring.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Abrahamic Covenant can be viewed as conditional through the findings in multiple chapters of Genesis. Abraham receives the promises God gives while God has his faith grown through Abraham and his offspring. The difference between God s and Abraham s promises is that God explained what he would do for Abraham, yet Abraham did not know what he was giving for God. • 48. Sociological Aspects Of Social Psychology Social Psychology According to Gordon Allport , social psychology is an attempt to understand and explain how the thought, feeling, and behavior of individuals is influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others. (Allport, 1954) There are two differing branches when referring to social psychology: 1. The sociological aspect of social psychology, which was mainly developed in Europe as a subdivision of sociology. 2. The psychological aspect of social psychology, which was developed in the US The differences between the two divisions are, that the sociological way of viewing social psychology focusses more on group interaction, group processes, while the psychological aspects of social psychology focusses more on the individual and how the individual is influenced and/or behaves in social settings. Sociological social psychology is very theory intensive and constructs itself out of geisteswissenschaften (sciences of the spirit) and social sciences. Corresponding approaches are i.e. critical theories, which also include psychoanalytical ideas. Some of the more notable sociological psychologists include Sigmund Freud, Erich Fromm and Wilhelm Reich. The control is water not having salt, and the constant variables are the amount of water in each cup and the objects. The independent variable is the amount of salt added in the cup. The dependent variable is the height of the water and the densityof the water. Background Research How do objects float on water? The density and buoyancy are properties of matter that determine how objects float on water. Density shows the amount of mass in the volume of an object. For example, the density of water is one gram per cubic centimeter. It is a property that the quantity or shape does not affect the density of the material. This means that ... For instance, when an experiment was done, the marbles, eggs, and bouncy balls needed different amounts of salt to float. When substances dissolve in a liquid the density of the liquid ... The Three Sciences The three sciences and their knowledge How knowledge produced is influenced by vocabulary and environmental conditions In the world of science, there are three main categories which cover many other disciplines. These three main groups are the natural sciences, the social sciences and humanities. As the name natural sciences indicates, the main focus of this particular group of scientists is to find regularities in the irregular world of today. They would create formulas and structures to illustrate movement. The social sciences shed light on how people feel and what they go through. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The difference in knowledge typically produced by these sciences is highly influenced by the effects environmental circumstances have on the research that is conducted. Vocabulary use is very different among the three sciences. in the first case mentioned it is clear that it has an influence on the knowledge, however, the second case shows that it changes the context rather than that it influences the knowledge. The main difference in vocabulary lies in the fact that the sciences lay their focus on different aspects. This means that even if they research the same person, they can still have very different results. Furthermore, the conducted research can be influenced by many environmental factors which impact the end results and so the knowledge produced. Even though the natural sciences can often control the conditions they work in, this does not mean that this does not have an influence on the results. As the social sciences and humanities do not have the direct possibility of controlling the conditions they do their research in, this means that these conditions have a large effect on the knowledge eventually produced. Prince Of Egypt Character Analysis The play Prince of Egypt directed by Scott Schwartz an American child actor who participated in Toy Story and now a director has shown his vision of the marvelous play in the Silicon Valley TheatreWorks. Additionally, the play itself is dramatic and musical. To sum the play, an orphan Hebrew was found near the river and was brought into one of the most prestigious family in Egypt. A huge amount of time has passed seeing Moses(Hebrew child) and Ramses (Son of the Pharaoh) growing up together into adults. However, a war caused the sickness or death of the Pharaoh, which leads Ramses to be the new leader. Moses and Ramses has a strong bond between each other, until Moses finds out his true identity; which is being born as a Hebrew. Eventually finding out his true self, his goals were to free the Hebrews being captive by the Pharaoh, which in this case it is now Ramses. With hard work and determination, Moses has fulfilled his duty to free his people. In the ending of the play, I was amazed and enjoyed the play. Therefore, I wished for another seeing of this beautiful work just by how the themes, plot, creative staging, and the passion of the director is put out there to everyone else. The theme of the play has a sense of nationality and or slavery which is still relatable today. Seeing that being displayed in a creative way into a play was just outstanding.
