Charlemagne Essay
After reading two versions of The Life of Charlemagne , one written by a person who lived with
Charlemagne, and one who didn t, it is evident that Charlemagne is portrayed in a negative way
by the author, the Monk of St. Gall, and in a positive way by Einhard. Einhard was very close to
Charlemagne. He lived at the same time and with Charlemagne himself. His version of The Life of
Charlemagne was writing right after his death. The Monkof St. Gall wrote his version more than
70 years after Charlemagne s death. He did not live with or even at the same time as Charlemagne.
This is probably one of the reasons the view on the ruler are completely different.
The reason Einhard wrote his biography of Charlemagne was to explain to the world ... Show more

Altogether, Charlemagne s rule was a successful one and Charlemagne rarely, if ever, made
mistakes according to Einhard.
In St. Gall s version of The Life of Charlemagne the author does not give any background
information at all. The reason St. Gall is writing this version of Charlemagne s life is to blame
him for the attacks going on at present times. He gives no information about Charlemagne s family
or ancestors. The author immediately begins to start his complaining about how Charlemagne
basically did nothing good for the empire he was ruling. After the omnipotent ruler of the world,
who orders alike the fate of kingdoms and the course of time, had broken the feet of iron and clay
in one noble statue, to wit the Romans, he raised by the hands of the illustrious Charles the golden
head of another, not less admirable, among the Franks . At the beginning of this quote, Einhard is
praising Charlemagne. St. Gall is placing Charlemagne at the same level as the Romans, saying
God has raised up Charlemagne to succeed them. Then, at the end of the quote, it is unclear why
St. Gall says that the bishop falls of his horse. To me, this seems some sort of a negative passage
making the reader think Charlemagne is somewhat incompetent. This being the first entry in this
author s text, it immediately gives off a negative feeling towards Charlemagne. The reader
immediately has a negative bias towards Charlemagne

Essay On Fight Club
He d probably watched Fight Club one too many times growing up, both the novel and the film
had a marked impact on Trent s band and indeed his public persona. It d been a rocky road for
him to reach that place, and the character that he played was one born from necessity. Trent s
father was a lifelong biker, and the president of a prominent outlaw MC in California. The man
sold drugs, pimped out girls and did a little bit of everything and he d been a convict for much of
his son s early years. As a result, Trent was forced to grow up in group homes, and abuse from his
caretakers and older children hardened the boy, by the time his dad got out, he was a teenager and

Much of the band s direction came from him, and he was the de facto leader of the group. There
were two brothers in the group, both were Mexican Americans and they d lived their entire lives
in the L.A area just as Trent had. They were the drummer and one of the guitarists respectively.
The white guy was named Jackson and he was a longtime friend of Trent s and another one of
the guitarists, he was an especially liberal minded giant of a guy that stood about 6 8 and was
covered head to toe in tattoos. Of everyone in the group, he was the most hardcore against any
sort of racism and before blowing big, his claim to fame was being televised nationally at a riot,
where he punched a Nazi sympathizer in the face quite hard. He drank like a fish, but was
otherwise a sweetheart with a new family of his own, and Trent was proud to be godfather to his
twins. Their bassist was Trent s cousin Reggie who had come from a family of musicians. In
addition they had two more members, one was an Asian American young man who everyone
called kid and the other was a black woman who was petite but probably the most volatile in
temperament which was saying something. They were there to add texture to the sound and both
handled similar duties of sampling, keyboards, percussion and turntables. The kid s background

Prepare a S.W.O.T. analysis for Bass Pro Shops. What types of strategies do you recommend based
on your analysis?
Strengths (company s internal factors from resources and capabilities) Bass Pro Shops have a
competitive advantage, which in the text is defined as a firm has a marketing mix that the target
market sees as better than a competitor s mix (Perreault et al, 2011 p. 47). The way that Bass Pro

With the economy in a downturn it makes it a lot more difficult for people to justify spending
the money on things that they really do not need. And since these stores are not everywhere you
go it causes people to travel long distances in order to visit, which means they have to spend
additional money on fuel to get there. The gas prices have been increasing to amounts that have
put a damper on a lot of peoples travel plans. With all of the economic problems some customers
are going to go somewhere that is more local and better in their price range. In addition, Bass Pro
Shops face threats from traditional and specialty sporting stores, mass merchandisers, and catalog
and Internet based retailers. These merchandise providers are everywhere and the 50 Bass Pro
Shops that are currently in the United States and Canada can be quite a distance for the outdoor
enthusiast that already knows what he or she may need. Furthermore, the consumer who enters a
store with the intention to only touch and / or play with an item that he or she ultimately plans to
purchase online threatens all retail stores.
We would recommend that Bass Pro Shops continue to make their stores unique; however, making
a few smaller stores with some of the same features, lower prices, and closer to large shopping
centers would allow customers to experience the environment, which may entice them to visit the
larger stores. I think that since they

Connotation In Frankenstein
Mary Shelley wrote her first novel, Frankenstein, in 1818, using a mixture of gothic and romantic
conventions. Shelley depicts a complex relationship between a creator, Victor Frankenstein, and his
creation. While the romantic setting helps to characterize Frankenstein and his creation, the dark
gothic nature of the work helps to build suspense. While Frankensteinand his creation are talking for
the first time, their true emotions toward one another are revealed. Through the use of various
literary techniques, Shelley conveys the relationship between Victor Frankenstein and his creation
as one absorbed with deep hatred and misunderstanding established through assumptions.

For instance, Frankenstein tells his creation that [he] could, with the extinction of [the creation s]
miserable existence, restore those victims whom [he has] so diabolically murdered! The negative
connotation of diabolically, which is associated with devils, illustrates how Frankenstein views his
creation. He makes an assumption about the creation murdering someone, while there is no

mild a vengeance for thy crimes. Frankenstein continues to assume the creation is the one that
committed these crimes. He claims that even hell [is] too mild for these crimes. After this

The creature begs for Frankenstein to hear [him] before his assumption driven hatred and

Becoming A Fashion Retail Buyer Essay
Career Research Paper Growing up my thoughts and decisions constantly have changed from one

I have found that has kept me grounded and staying on course is fashion design and retail. I am
able to express myself through this medium and eventually I plan on becoming a fashionretail buyer
myself. Also, I want to be involved in promoting campaigns and advertisements for the newest
trends. One of the many highlights of this job is being able to travel to different states and even
countries to attend trade fairs as well as visit certain suppliers. As a retail buyer, the buyer is
responsible for selecting products up to date with trends and to sell them in retail shops. To become
a fashion buyer one must attain a 2 4 year college degree. Along with this, when attending college a
student should major in either business, marketing, or merchandising. Although internships are not
required, except for certain particular business classes or programs, interning could possibly benefit
someone to achieve the highest potential in their job. While training a person needs to learn the
knowledge of fashion, retail, and economics. I would imagine that one must have first hand
experiencein retail, which I would assume helps the person train for the job. The company s I
seek interest in are higher end boutiques because I would be able to sell good quality clothes for a

Dispossessed And Patterns Recognition Essay
Thesis:
Women s role in science fiction and how it reflects our society
Women s role changing
Throughout Wool, The dispossessed and Pattern recognition, we are exposed to many female
characters in these novels. Although science fiction has long been defined as a genre dominated
by men, it is so surprising to see that women character has played dominate roles in these novels.
The impact of women on these novels can be clearly observed, but each book depicts women
character so differently that made me curious about knowing further about women s status and roles
play in society and how they change over time.
To start with The Dispossessed, which published 1974, tells the story of the two worlds, Anarres
and Urras, which are very different from each other. The passage marks a series of gendered
differences between the two societies: the people live and work in Annares treat women as their

possesses a sense of individuality and her characters are not fixed by the rigid rules or social

living by her unique abilities. From my perspective, it is a sign that women s role in society today
is heading to a status that they gradually possess the conscious of identity rather than a dependent.
Gibson intentionally portrays Cayce in such way to illustrate to us where women s role will be

The Merry Court says that if a false report is used in some way which damages a subject, some
form of legal right might be available, but that is not the situation in the present case. The
Constitution is not violated by a police officer s failure to make a report, the creation of an
inaccurate report, or the failure to have an inaccurate report corrected. This claim fails because
there is no rights to have the police write a police report. Courts have held that there is no

Comparison of the Effectiveness Of Imagery in “ The Secret...
While writing stories it is importing to keep in mind that readers should be able to picture the
story in their mind while reading. It is best to use effective ways to explain or describe the point;
such as, wording and writing format, in order to grab reader s attention and interest them.
Referring to the readings The secret of Walter Mitty written by James Thurber, and Bartleby the
scrivener written by Melville, both have been written in a great effective way for readers to use
their imagery and develop the ideas of what the story is about. Providing that, both stories have
described the character and setting with enough details to be effective imagery for readers.
Understanding the story and the main characters requires a suitable description of characteristic
and personality of people in the story. Therefore, both stories have introduced the characters
with a brief description to leave a picture of the characters in readers head. In reading The secret
of Walter Mitty, Walter Mitty has been described as a middle age man who has trouble handling
mechanical tasks, forgets mostly everything easily, and someone who is a daydreamer. This
description of Walter Mitty gives readers a picture of a man who may not be able to work very
well and may not have a strong memory. But, daydreams of having great times to forget and not to

Eating Disorders As A Female Disorder
ABSTRACT
Eating disorders are one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the United States. Although this
disease is typically viewed as a female disorder, males are greatly affected and may go
undiagnosed and untreated due to the attached stigma. Thus, it is important to understand the risk
factors associated with the development of eating disorders in males. These risk factors include:
athletic involvement, sexual orientation, pre morbid obesity, and adverse childhood experiences.
Eating disorder type and symptom presentation also varies between males and females. Males
typically do not meet the criteria to be categorized as Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa,
causing their condition to be classified as Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. Symptom
presentation is likely to include binge eating and excessive exercise rather than restrictive eating,
purging, or other compensatory methods commonly seen in the female population. Several eating
disorder assessments are available for use in clinical practice, most of which have been geared
toward the female gender. New assessments, such as the Eating Disorder Assessment for Males,
have been developed recently to try to hone in on the typical male symptomatology and their
psychological processes. Prompt treatment of eating disorders, regardless of gender, is necessary to
prevent the development of medical and psychological comorbidities. This process cannot begin
until the diagnosis has been made; therefore, additional

In addition, Susan asserts that gender roles are the foundation for what the advertising agencies
use to promote and push sales irrespective of considering their impact on society (Bordo, 139).
Masculinity and femininity are defined and restricted by boundaries that are created from images
found in the media. The images are prevalent and presented in a way so that they become the norm
of how society should be. To some extent they even create and divide society.
In her article, hunger as Ideology, Susan illustrates an advertisement, where two little and innocent
French girls dressing up in their mother s clothes. Susan criticized the concept of advertisement,
where the ideology of soft, sleek and hunger restriction is associated with females (Bordo 139).
Concerning this, I also believe the abstract message has a strong impression on the viewer,
especially young girls because they may get influenced and start controlling their diet from an early
age, which might affect their health. Such advertisements showcase that woman is anxious about the
value of beauty and are forced to turn into work of art for the promise of self esteem. (Debra and
Nelson).
Second major impact of societal stereotypes is the formation of sex plus discrimination. In this
form of discrimination, an employer does not discriminate against the class of men or women

Inferno Research Paper
Inferno Research Paper Anthony K. Cassell stated in his critical essay titled Farinata that the
methods of punishment in Dante s Hell are exquisitely diverse. The cantos in Inferno are focused
on Circles or subdivisions of Hell that describe specific punishments for the suffering souls based
upon the sin they committed. The deeper into Hell, the worse the sins that were committed, therefore
the agonies of the punishments are greater. In Inferno, Dante brings the issue of sin into light by
giving instances of sins he has taken note of. He places the guilty souls at different levels of Hell,

were not restrained, he would use even harsher words. Dante then becomes amazed, if not
pleasured, with some of the punishments. In the Circle containing Thieves, Dante watches in
amazement as a serpent bites a sinner between the shoulders, causing the soul to instantly catch
fire, burn up, and then rise from the ashes to return to the pit of the serpents. In the First Ring of
the Ninth Circle of Hell, called Caina, named after Cain who killed his brother Abel in Genesis,
those who betrayed their kin are punished. The souls must stand in ice frozen up to their heads.
Dante witnesses twins frozen face to face, butting their heads against each other in rage. Dante
accidentally kicks Bocca degli Abati in the face, then leans down to apologize. Once he recognizes
this soul, he tears out his hair before leaving him in the ice. With the constant rebuking from Virgil,
Dante has learned to not pity the damned souls. He learns to reconcile his sympathy for the
suffering with the harsh violence of divine justice as he begins to see that the punishments fit the
crimes committed. In Canto VI of Inferno, the Third Circle of Hell rains filth and excrement, and

Economics in the United Methodist Church
Many churches are experiencing economic hardships at this time, and the Methodist church is no
exception. In addition to drops in attendance over the last half century, Religion News reports The
percentage of a church member s income given to the church dropped to 2.3 percent in 2011 (the
latest year for which numbers are available), down from 2.4 percent in 2010, according to the
Empty Tomb study. (Burgess) Because of this, many churches are feeling the strains of limited
funds. But, there are ways that I believe that the church could possibly improve their situation. The
problems include people treating the church as a free rider program, the church being used as a
common pool resource, and people acting so that the church becomes a tragedy of the commons.
Near the end, a solution will be offered, and it will be explored whether this solution lines up with
the church in a normative manner.
The first problem (of many) that churches sometimes face is that of a free rider problem. A free rider
problem is defined by Princeton as those who consume more than their fair share of a public
resource, or shoulder less than a fair share of the costs of its production. Essentially, anyone who
benefits from a resource in which they did not pay their fair share is a free rider. This is seen in
churches each and every week. People don t give a love offering for a Wednesday night supper.
People bring their children and youth to student activities and fail to tithe, or even give at

Change In The Music Of Today s Music Industry
Looking back at the music that everyone enjoyed a few decades ago, and then compare it to todays
genre of music there are many differences. In the past two decades alone there has been a drastic
change in the music that is considered popular. Going from a four man band that play instruments
to one person pressing buttons on a computer and using auto tune. The talent in today s music
industryhas obviously declined over the years. As the music we listen to continues to change and
trends come and go, nobody really notices how it changes. With all of the technology and social

The Habits Of Highly Effective People By Stephen R. Covey...
7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey
When I went through professor s required book list, I recognized the book, 7 Habits of Highly
Effective People, at my first glance. I do remember that I read its Chinese version which was a
present from my grandfather almost ten years ago when I was a teenager. Shortly after feeling
excited, I was a little embarrassed because I barely remember the 7 habits. Now as an adult
almost a decade later, after finished the book, the original work, I was impressed. The
immaturity made me believe that most of the points of Covey were too obvious and trite to
make sense. But now those things Covey talked about are actually tough challenges in my life.
The precondition of the Covey s theory is that a lot of people fix the problems in a scattershot
approach which will eventually lead to chaos or disappointment for the most time. The author s
answer to this is to be an effective person. People needs to learn to solve problems from personal
life, study and work with an approach based on a same core values. The book is about how to
develop the core values basically through the seven habits in order to be a more effective person.
The seven habits also help to achieve greater insights into leadership and management in people s
personal and professional life in the effective way.
The seven habits are: 1. Be proactive 2. Begin with the end in mind 3. Put first things first 4. Think
win win 5. First understand, then be understood 6.

Sexuality in John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums Essay
Sexuality in Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums
Reading over this excellent story once more, I am again filled with
the same emotion (if it can be called that) that I experienced when first
reading it. Steinbeck planned for that. In a letter to George Albee in
1933, Steinbeck comments on this story and his interest in Albee s opinion
of it. ...It is entirely different and is designed to strike without the
reader s knowledge. I mean he reads it casually and after it is finished
feels that something profound has happened to him although he does not know
what nor how. I knew after reading this, that Steinbeck is truly a marvel.
It is one thing to have enough luck to leave your reader s with ... Show more content on

He doesn t quite catch
onto the eroticism of the story, and in stead, chooses to focus on the more
crude innuendoes. ...The chrysanthemum stalks seem to be phallic symbols,
and Eliza s over eager snipping of them suggests castration. Then in the
rooting bed, Eliza herself becomes masculine, inserting the little crisp
shoots into open, receptive furrows (Hughes 235). He goes on explaining
how the shoots became Eliza s children and how she communicates with the
tinker on how to care for them. This makes perfect sense, but Eliza seems
more concerned with the loss of her own life. For too long, the
chrysanthemums have served in place of children. She is looking into
reclaiming her own life, not finding another electric connection to live
her life through. Hughes seems to ignore this, because all women by nature
want to procreate and have children, right? The androgyny of Eliza s
character, however, would suggest otherwise. She isn t as pulled by that
biological need as Hughes would suggest.
Elizabeth E. McMahan is strong in saying that although people will
agree that The Chrysanthemums is a story of a woman s frustration, no one
can adequately explain why. McMahan attributes the frustration to her
unhappiness with her marriage. She explains that although she and Henry

Bowen shapes her hatred of the war in the stultifying dictions of the work, not only twentieth

Now to move to the second field on the basis of social rules and dictates within the text, we should
elucidate morbid culture of the society with reference to the opening text in which Mrs. Drover
visits her house in the shell shocked England of the Second World War. This is an example of
social atmosphere:
Against the next batch of clouds, already piling up ink
dark, broken chimneys and parapets stood out. In her
once familiar street, as in any unused channel, and
unfamiliar queerness had silted up; a cat moved itself

Drover `s return. Shifting some parcels under her arm,
she slowly forced round her latchkey in an unwilling
lock, then gave the door, which had warped, push with
her knee. Dead air came out to meet her as she went

The atmosphere of this exposition is clearly foreboding: the dark clouds, broken chimneys, unused

deadliest war in history and there were two sides of the war, the Allies (United States, Great
Britain, France, USSR, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Greece,

Powers (Germany, Japan, Italy Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria). Our involvement began in
1941 with Japan s aggressive attack on Pearl Harbor, a naval base in Hawaii and ended in 1945

Rock n roll has been a part of the world since the early 1940 s. According to Just a Half a Mile
from the Mississippi Bridge : The Mississippi River Valley Origins of Rock n Roll, this genre
was born in the Mississippi River Valley and moved up and down its course, including its
tributaries (the Cumberland, Tennessee, Illinois, and Missouri rivers), and along the highways
and railroads which paralleled those rivers. This genre of music produced during the recovery of
the second World War, Rock n roll gave rise to one of the greatest impacts on past American
generations, and continues to go forward into my own generation today. James Henke
acknowledges that various cities played large roles in the history of Rock n roll: Memphis in the
1950s, Detroit during the Motown era, London and Liverpool during the British Invasion, San
Francisco during the psychedelic era, New York and London during the punk period, and Seattle
during the grunge era. Without rock music, pop and other genres would not as successful and

The Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change Advice For...
The Intergovernmental panel on Climate Change advice for policy makers is a book with various
statistics and facts about what the scientific community has been noticing about the changing
environment. The hope for the panel when making this booklet is that they could help guide policy
makers towards making more informed decisions about their policies and the effect it is having on
the environment. While some of the evidence is almost indisputable many politicians still argue
their validity due to personal beliefs or because they receive campaign donations from companies
who do not want to see environmental policies change. The booklet is split up into three different
parts, observations of the changes in the environment around us, future risks these changes can
have, and how to manage these risks and build a sustainable planet for everybody. The booklet
describes many various pieces of evidence from what they have seen around the world and have
even rated their certainty on their hypothesizes. The section starts out about how the global
temperature has been increasing rapidly over the past century. They also state that the reason the
temperature has been rising is due to humanactivity and the rise in the amount of greenhouse gases
that we release. The amount of human death we had so far is unknown due to the wide cause of
effects the rising temperature can have. Nobody knows how much food is lost from climate change
or how many water borne illnesses have killed people

Essay on Global Warming
The Earth receives energy, light and warmth from the sun. As the earth and the objects on earth
become warm, they radiate their warmth back toward space in the form of infrared energy.
However, there are gases known as trace gases that make up less than 1% of Earth s atmosphere
which are able to trap some of the outgoing heat. Water vapor is vastly abundant in the atmosphere
and generates a blanketing effect that keeps the surface of the earth at a temperature that allows
life to exist. In addition to water vapor, carbon dioxideis another trace gas that is naturally present
in the atmosphere. It s powerful heat trapping capabilities are essential for life and in processes
such as respiration and photosynthesis. Carbon dioxide levels are... Show more content on

Climate changes once occurred naturally but during this revolution we began altering our
environment through changing agricultural and industrial practices. The major fuels used at the
time included coal, oil, petroleum, and natural gas which all are carbon rich and when burned the
carbon combines with oxygen in the air producing carbon dioxide. These are commonly referred
to as fossil fuels which are composed of the fossilized remains of vegetation and animals that
decayed millions of years ago. Due to this Industrial Revolution that sparked the use of these
contaminating fuels the carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere have increased from 280 to 365
parts per million. Before the Industrial Revolution, human activity released very few gases in the
atmosphere but now through population growth, fossil fuel burning, and deforestation, we re
affecting the mixture of gases. Fossil fuels were formed hundreds of millions of years ago from
the fossilized remains of plants and animals which are of limited amount now. During the
industrial revolution, coal burning factories contributed a significant amount of CO2 to Earth s
atmosphere where oil and natural gas were used to produce electricity, heat homes and factories,
and used for multiple forms of transportation. Power plants are the single largest source of CO2
and each year, 7 billion tons of carbon are released which reacts with

Brief Summary Of The Story Bean Si
Bean si means woman of the hills in Irish. The Irish woman of the hills is a banshee. A banshee
is known to foretell a death, whether it be yours or someone you love. She is not violent but
surely very terrifying. She will not hurt you but her haunting cries will surely petrify you. She
appears in mainly one form but can appear in other forms as well. Often a tall, thin middle age
woman, a bansheeshould be considered a monster not because of her intentions, but because of her
purpose, to foreshadow your or someone you love s death.
A banshee is often a towering, bony woman. She is known for her penetrating, fiery red eyes that
have come from centuries of weeping. She is most often seen clothed in a green dress with a
hooded grey cloak draped over it. A banshee is known to have long, very light hair. The majority
of the time, the banshee appears as a tall, wiry middle age woman, but she can also appear in other
forms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If several banshees appeared, it was to signify that someone great or divine was to die. Sometimes
the tale told that this woman, even though she was called a fairy, was a ghost who died by murder or
had passed away in childbirth.
In American folklore, tales of a banshee were heard in the late 18th century. The most heard
stories are from North Carolina. In these accounts the banshee is simply a ghoul, not a sign of
misfortune. Some descriptions are from South Dakota. These say that the banshee was known to
wail on a hill near Watch Dog Butte. This version of the legend also doesn t relate her to any
foreshadowing of death.
There are different chronicles of the banshee coming from other Celtic cultures. In Scottish
mythology, a comparable creature is recognized as the bean nighe and is seen washing blood
stained clothes or the armor of those about to die. In Welsh fables, a very much alike being is
known as the Hag of the

The loss of his men deeply troubles Roland into portraying the heroic quality of honoring the dead.

felt such grief and pity, he begins to weep; and his face lost its color with what he felt: a pain so
great he cannot keep on standing, he has no choice, falls fainting to the ground. (164. 2215 20)
Roland and Oliver s relationship is much more meaningful than friendship. Although the two

Emily Dickinsons View On Religion
Everybody has a different view on religion and its existence. Emily Dickinson, an objective poet
acting as a detached observer, describes what she has seen or heard and brings her own
reflections on the things she has experienced. Objective poetry is impersonal, which allows
readers to be open to different interpretations; it allows the facts to represent themselves and not be
impacted by the individual values and predispositions of the poet. Dickinson s poem, Prayer is the

Sarojini Naidu Essay
Poetry is a pleasure giving medium. This medium is handled by different poets in the world. Most
of the poets in India present their poetry in their mother tongue only. Those who present poetry in
languages other their own have not succeeded so well as Sarojini Naidu.
There are not many in India who have written poetry in English. Among them, Sarojini Naidu
stands first. Her poems are praised not only in India, but all over the world.
Though she has written poems on religion, country, women s freedom, etc., her poems on nature
occupy the first place in her poetry. Even in sorrow, her nature poems glow with a touch of her
suffering.
Sarojini Naidu was a distinguished poet, renowned freedom fighter and one of the great orators of
her time. She was famously known as Bharatiya Kokila (The Nightingale of India). Sarojini Naidu

The Theory Of The Constructivist Theory
1)Constructivism is a form of learning which is driven by the theory that humans are able to
generate knowledge from the interaction between their experiences and their ideas(1). This makes
the student actively involved in the process of synthesising meaning and knowledge. It is argued
that the constructivist approach inculcates critical thinking from the extrapolation of the student s
prior knowledgeand actively engaging the student in this way is much more effective than passive
learningthrough acquiring knowledge in a lecture(2) Also, this form of learning can be done in a
collaboration of students(3) Below are discussed some of the main types of constructivist theories.
One of the principle theoretical constructs used in medical educationis known as Problem Based

carefully constructed problems to a small group of students(4). The problems presented here are
typically based on events of which the students have some prior knowledge of. This prior
knowledge is discussed within the class and from this, questions are asked related to the problems
presented. Following this, time is granted in which the students go away to conduct individual
research on the new information which they have acquired. The students then return to their class,
in which they spend one to

Climate Denialism
Alberta s denial of anthropogenic climate change
Hegemonic ideology is shaped in the news by Murphy s above mentioned notion of discursive
framing. Murphy, however makes the sweeping assumption that discursive framing can be applied
to similar conflicts, but this is not always the case. For the purpose of this literature review,
discursive framing will only be applied to the concept of climate denialism that runs rampant in the
Calgary Herald. Murphy (2015, p.355) asserts, denial, dismissal, diversion and displacement are the
four strategies that institutions use in order to exclude uncomfortable knowledge. This debate has a
tendency to occur outside academia and from what I have seen, occasionally surfaces in business
journals that oppose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In view of this, I hypothesize that the Herald will use tactics in order to increase readership and
prevent readers from having to wrestle with new concepts on the subject of climate change. Boykoff
and Smith would be critical of the Calgary Herald and criticize it for presenting climate change
as an evenly balanced debate between apparently expert groups who were believers or deniers
(Boykoff and Smith, 2010, p. 5) I intend on speaking at length in my MRP about the
ramifications that arise when equal weight is given to scientific facts that are by facts and
alternative facts that are generated by emotion. Will Potter in Green Is the New Red: An Insider
s Account of a Social Movement Under Siege (2011, p.133) strengthens Boykoff and Smith s
arguments by declaring that balancing false impressions has taken precedence over critical,
investigative reporting that speaks truth to power (Potter 2011, p.133). A similar approach is
taken in Erik Kojola s writing s on the political economy of the news industry that are informed
by Potter s claims. Kojola looks at how truth is being compromised by corporate consolidation,
profit demands, and political biases that are shaped by the ideological position of newspaper
owners and editors (2015, p.7). It is useful to draw upon Freudenburg (2005) who theorizes about
privileged accounts that are given precedence in the media and in doing so, produce conflictual

Chasing Ice Documentary Assignment 1
Chasing Ice is a modern documentary about the human impact on the Earth s glaciers. Following
James Balog and his team the Extreme Ice Survey (EIS), the group aims to provide visible evidence
of human impact on the Earth s glaciers, as they trek through harsh conditions in Alaska, Greenland,
and Iceland.
Balog was once a skeptic of climate change as he believed that the theory surrounding global
warming was based off of computer models. Furthermore, he did not believe that humans could
alter the world s climate on such a global scale. However, through studies of ice records, long
tubes of ice drilled from the ground, Balog found key evidence suggesting ideas contrary to his
prior beliefs. These glacial tubes preserved historical records of the past similar to the rings of a
tree, recording past temperatures and CO2 levels. Using these records, one can see the direct
variation between temperature and CO2. Additionally, the recent spike in both... Show more

CO2 levels will ultimately return to, creating a balance between the two. However, when
temperature increases too dramatically, a tipping point is reached and glacier sizes will drop without
returning back to its original size. The excess of CO2 emissions released into the atmosphere
mainly caused by human activities has tilted the balance to one extreme. This phenomenon is the
beginning of a chain event, which ultimately leads to the melting of our polar ice caps and
glaciers. Due to the melting of ice, the average sea level is expected to rise a minimum of one and
a half to three feet during our generation, which would force approximately 150 million individuals

not yet come in its fullness because the earth is not yet fully redeemed (142). This is an
important distinction because it shows that Brunner has done his research, and it also helps
people understand exactly how he views the Kingdom of God and how they should
consequently view the Kingdom of God Near the end of the chapter Brunner talks about how
Christians must [wait] upon God for the Kingdom of Heaven (142). While I agree with what he
is saying, I think that Brunner should have qualified this statement to say that believers now
must be actively ready for the Kingdom of God to come in its fullness by doing the work of
Christ. While this may be implied in the message, stating it would have made Brunner s point
clearer and more powerful. 33. AFTERWARD? Brunner makes an excellent point when he states
that there is only one way to eternal life Christ (146). Many people shy away from the tough
questions, but Brunner rightly states the correct theological view that only through Christ are
people saved. While this declaration may seem trivial to some Christians, I believe that this
statement is exactly why this book is so powerful, because it clearly and assertively proclaims the
truth about Christian doctrine, which is then backed up by scripture. While Brunner is bold in
many of his

Assessing Corporate Culture (Walt Disney)
Assessing Corporate Culture
Whether you are an employee (Cast Member) or a visitor (Guest), it is easy to see that the
Corporate Culture of Walt Disney is one of magic, empowerment, and diversity. It is an
organization with a strong set of values and beliefs that motivates it s Cast Members toward one
specific goal, creating a magical experience for all guests who enter.
When entering the career home page for the Walt Disney Corporation it reads:
Welcome to DisneyCareers, We are the dreamers and doers; a cast of thousands committed to

Walt Disney has been making America s dreams come true for years. Through their success at
managing and motivating cast members and the need for other corporations to want this
information, Disney has developed the Disney Institute and Disney University where they provide
every part of their knowledge except brand management or strategic planning (Paton, 1997).
The organizational structure of Disney values the balance between work and life. Disney has
combined business programs with personal fulfillment courses and allows cast members to
bring family members to business workshops. Disney also empowers employees to think
creatively and once a year host a Gong Show (McGowan, 1997), in which any cast member can
pitch his or her idea. The top decision makers and CEOs all attend and at the end decide on a
winner. Many of the movies and attractions that are affiliated with Disney have come out of the
Gong Show. Disney has gone the extra step and developed a different language. Visitors to Walt
Disney World Resortand the Disney Institute are referred to as guests. Employees are called cast
members, whether they perform on stage or work behind the scenes, at whatever level. Each cast
member has to spend an afternoon as a Disney character and later share his or her experiences with
other cast members who are in training. All cast members learn three imperatives: Keep the park
clean, create happiness,

The Bean Trees Mother Figures Essay
The author Barbara Kingsolver once said, Sometimes the strength of motherhood is greater than
natural laws. This means that mothers can go through great lengths and even break laws for their
children. In the book The Bean Trees , Kingsolver portrays that quote by writing about Taylor s
experiences with an abandoned child named Turtle. Kingsolver included several characters in the
book that act as mother figures. Barbara Kingsolverseems to be saying that a mother does not have
to come biologically through the characters of Taylor, Lou Ann, and Mattie. Lou Ann is a character
that was introduced in the second chapter. Lou Ann is single and has a son whom she loves. Lou

Starting right now, you ve only got one Ma in the whole world, (Kingsolver 302). Taylor made a
comeback to Turtle calling Esperanza by Ma by telling Turtle that she only has one ma in the
world and that s is Taylor. Taylor was a character that was acting as a mother figure only to
Turtle. Even though she had a child, Taylor was still a child inside that tried to avoid pregnancy.
Mattie is the older character in this book that was owned Jesus is Lord Tires and was a character
that acted as a mother to multiple characters. She looked at me the way Mama would have,
(Kingsolver 252). This quote was found near the end of the book that signified Mattie looking at
Taylor and Taylor observing that look and thinking that it is similar to her real mother s. Mattie
gave some money to Taylor for the trip and Taylor refused to take it, so Mattie said that it was
for everyone in the car and gave her the look that reminded Taylor of her biological mother. I ve
got some peanut butter crackers, Mattie said leaning over Turtle. Will she eat peanut butter? ,
(Kingsolver 252). Mattie seemed worried about Turtle and offered her something to eat. She
acted as a mother figure to Turtle because she fed her and gave her more food when Turtle hinted
for it. Mattie was the one that fit as a mother figure to a lot of characters in the book. She was the
person that led a sanctuary and was the one who took care of the many. The characters Taylor, Lou

Cape Tribulation
Dusky moorhens are common to the area, along with pacific black ducks. Saw shelled turtles are
frequent in the lake. The Australian water dragon is also seen near the lake and the surrounding
area. The flora in the area include the giant kauri and an umbrella tree. The Australian Christmas
tree is often near the edge of the lake. In the lake itself, water lilies are common.
Cape Tribulation is an area in the Daintree forest near the Pacific Ocean. Its temperature is also
somewhat constant throughout the year but drops slightly between the months of June and August.
The average temperature throughout the year is 28.6 Celsius. It experiences both a wet and dry
season. The wet season occurs between the months of January and March, with the peak in March.

ocean.
The fauna in the area include small animals and medium to large birds. There is also a wide range
of insects common to the area. The peppermint stick insect is especially prevalent. Cassowaries and
scrub turkeys can sometimes be seen wandering the area. The rhino beetle is also a common insect
to the region.
The mangrove forests are located in the wet tropics. The average temperature and rainfall are
similar to that in Cape Tribulation, likely due to its close proximity. The temperature averages
around 28.6 Celsius, but in the coldest month of July can average 20.5 Celsius. This area also

For every problem caused by urbanisation there is an...
Rapid urbanisation has caused a variety of problems, including transport congestion, lack of
sufficient homes and living conditions, sanitary and health care issues, and crime. For all these
problems, city planners have attempted potential solutions, each with varying degrees of success.
Cities including London, Manila and Mumbai have several of the aforementioned problems, and
have each tried their own potential solutions. This essay will discuss how successful these schemes
have been in resolving these issues.
As a result of an increased population inhabiting one area, traffic congestion is often a major issue
resulting from urbanisation. In London, traffic is evidently a problem. As it would be expected

In terms of health, an example of an attempt in Mumbai is the Slum Sanitation Program, started in
1995 by an NGO, who built 330 new communal toilet blocks in the slums; due to health also being
detrimentally affected by exhaust emissions from traffic, dirty water, cramped living spaces
(increasing the spread of disease) and general cleanliness of homes, this has had little impact. Over
all, it is evident that these attempts have not been greatly successful, potentially due to the lack of
money preventing any major plans like complete rejuvenation which would solve the problems.
As cities grow, problems grow with them. Solving these problems has been attempted in various
ways by various people, and have each have had different levels of success. In MEDC London, the
issue of congestion was attacked in a much more structured way, and therefore did make some
impact, although for the moment, minimal. In LEDCs Mumbai and Manila, Governments have
struggled to rectify their problems due to their lack of money, as the scale of their modifications is
too great due to such rapid urbanisation. In conclusion, I agree that more often than not there is an
effective solution for problems caused by urbanisation, but in many cases they are just too big and
too expensive to be

life in order to assist those who need aid and support in a separate world. According to Campbell,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tetrathiafulvalene
A polymer is made up of many small molecules, which combine to form a single long or large
molecule. The individual tiny molecules from which the polymer is formed are known as
monomers (meaning, single part) and the process by which the monomer molecules are linked to
form a big polymer molecule is called polymerization. The small molecules, which combine to
form a big molecule, can be of one or more chemical compounds. Polymercrystals are never
perfectly ordered, therefore they rarely experience sharp diffraction peaks like inorganic crystals.

The Lessons Learned From Park Play
Governments Are Overfunding Parks The lessons learned from park play are not comparable to
what sidewalk play has to offer. Learning Responsibility on City Sidewalks by Jane Jacobs opens
the reader s eyes on the benefits of simple street play. In her passage, Jane Jacobs compares the
more beneficial effects of sidewalk play compared to the overpraised parks. Jacobs tells us that
parks don t build a stronger form of morality and help with developing more knowledge on city life
like sidewalk play do. Parkchildren are given less of a chance to visually learn how to become
well rounded citizens in society from adults around them. Parks are not as amazing as they re
believed to be from the public. They do not offer the many chances to learn compared to what
sidewalk interactions have to offer. Plus, the playgrounds do not have enough adults to actually
watch over and teach children the good and the bad. Playgrounds are built for the concept of
having fun, but they do not guide and raise children to be good citizens. I believe that
government should not heavily fund parks because parks do not revere the essential teachings
needed in society such as social abilities. I believe that instead of overfunding parks we could
benefit more by having the government actually invest more in club sports because I think club
teams open up more of an opportunity for people to develop their social skills, instead of playing in
a park. Club sports are provided in many cities but each one I

Paul Bloom Against Empathy
Why should I care?
Paul Bloom, author of Against Empathy, a psychologist and professor at Yale, states in a video
summary of his book made for The Atlantic states that, Empathy is fundamentally, from a moral
standpoint, a bad thing; it makes the world worse. This is a very bold statement to take against an
emotion. Empathy, as commonly defined, is the neurological ability to feel what someone else is
feeling; to imagine not only how someone else feels, but to imagine yourself literally standing in
their feet as if you were them. He states that, While we ve been taught that putting yourself in
another s shoes cultivates compassion, it actually blinds you to the long term consequences to your
actions (Bloom, The New Yorker). Caring too much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bloom discusses the topic of war in The Atlantic video. The argument is over whether it is more
important to bomb a country to save current victims versus how military engagement could
potentially create more victims. Many people would believe that saving the suffering people right
now is more important because we can deal repercussions later. Bloom argues that the previously
stated viewpoint is irrational, illogical, and completely empathy based. People have the point of
view to rush to war because they care, and when they care too much, it blinds them to what could
be potentially worse for them and the world in the long run. President Obama, during his final
term, in efforts to slow down ISIS, sent drone strikes to many areas in Syria to reported hotbeds of
ISIS activity. The issue with this plan of action is that it rallies the people that are empathizing with
the people who under attack from ISIS, thinking that they are helping. In reality, according to The
Huffington Post, approximately 90% of people killed in those drone strikes were not the target. So
does our empathy skew our feeling so that we lose all logic, so in the end we killed the very people
we were trying to

Infection Cards Difficulty
Comorbidity mode: For an extra level of difficulty to pandemic would be to remove the card limit
but for every card after 7 at the end of your turn, you must draw an extra infection card. So, if you
have 9 cards you would draw 2 infection cards. The meaning of this allows for more of a chance to
get the cards you need to cure a disease but also allows for more of a chance to spread infection
faster. So, every time a player draws a card past 7 they will be given the choice to discard or
draw infection cards. Another step for this game mode is, for every time you discard you will
add the bottom discarded infection card to the middle of the infection pile. This will add another
layer of difficulty with making the player think do they want to add more cards to the infection

The World Is Flat !, By Thomas L. Friedman
When using Chanel s cosmetics, when drinking Danone yogurt with breakfast, when driving Ford
motor the way home, global brands which are highly visible symbol of the increasing integration
of world market, could been discovered around everywhere. As Thomas L. Friedman (2005) states,
World is flat! , which means world is being shrunk by the spreading of globalisation.
Globalisation, a result of social development, can be described as the increase in cross broader
trade and influence on the economic and social behaviour of nation states (David Begg, 2003:272).
This process has affected the world widely and deeply, principally in economics, industrial,
technological, political and cultural aspects.
Over the past decade, as the liberalization of national and openness of global markets, globalisation
has benefitted the world significantly, such as income improved, increase of imports and exports,
industrial development, thus, free flow of trade, capital and information have produced the best
outcome for growth and human welfare. Therefore, it is little doubt that globalisation has positive
impact on developed and developing countries. When it comes to China, ever since it formally
joined WTO, great benefits has been gained from the international trade while a huge boost to the
collaboration with other countries.

China, the status quo situation of globalisation in China, and the

Comparing Asexual Vs. Response To Environment
What is life? A question that sounds simple, but in reality is more complex and could be answered
in multiple ways. The focus of this will be comparing asexual versus sexual reproduction. Also, the
evolution and adaptation versus response to environment. And lastly, but not any less important is
homeostasis. Sexual versus asexual reproductionboth have benefits and disadvantages. Asexual is
the development of a new organism forming from one parent. When an asexual organism has an
offspring their offspring has the same exact genetic material. If the parent were to have a disease
the child would automatically get the disease in their lifetime. An sexual organism has to mate to
form and offspring. Usually an sexual organism has to be a maleand female together to produce. To
produce a new organism the egg and sperm have to meet. The genetic material would be mixed

Evolution is the concept that one organism can grow into an adult and develop skills in their
environment. Adaptation is a feature that is common in a population. Adaptation can take in
different forms. Behavior of predators or temperatures that functions best. The form of an organism
has to adapt to a new lifestyle changing the way the may have been fated to evolve into. Both
adaptation and evolution have in common our an organism that grows mentally and physically or
the environment the species is in.
Homeostasis means in greek same and steady. Homeostasis a habit to want be stable equilibrium
of an organism. Homeostasis is needed for survival of all living organisms. For example humans
need to stay a temperature around 98 to keep the body temperature in this area it needs homeostasis
to stay stable. Sometimes the body is not stable for instance when the body runs a fever or gets the

Solyndra Company Case Summary
The Solyndra Corporation is a Limited Liability Company, (LLC) that creates and constructs
solar panel systems for the large industrial rooftop companies. According to Hals Ketcher (2006)
a Limited Liability Company is structured so the members of the corporation are not held
directly liable for the company s bills or liabilities. So when the company filled for bankruptcy,
the partners were not obliged to pay the LLC s debts out of their own assets, and if the resources
of the LLC are not adequate to cover the balance due, the creditors have minimal legal actions to
compel the owners for payment. Their debtwas with the LLC, not the people that owned the LLC

However, during the loan process the company failed to disclose key information about the
company s future earnings did the corporation and key leaders who were in charge not tell the truth
of the real state of the company s fiscal strength or was accounting dereliction involved. Leadership
at Solyndra asked suppliers to permit it to put off cash payments to enrich the growth of the
companies bottom line. This constitutes fraud by company officials, the investigation determined
that the company officials distorted facts and left out key material in the efforts to get the loan.
(Report, 2015). The consequences are extreme when fraud is in relationship with government loans,
for instance, penalties imposed can be up to 30 years in Federal prison. The law, by distinction, is
not satisfied to presume the good faith of company officials. It pursues any person that makes an
effort to manipulate the issuance of government loans by presenting false statements with the goal
to defraud the Government. The government guaranteed the loan, so when Solydra could no longer
re pay the onus was on the Government and the taxpayer to re pay the half billion dollar loan with
interest. This reduces Solyndra s risk knowing that the government, is on the hook to repay greatly
lessening the chance that the loan will not be repaid. Apart from free market ethics, management
would have instilled truthfulness, and integrity while carrying out their duties; this could have
prevented the company from bankruptcy by upholding the spirit of the utilitarian rule that
advocates for greater benefits to all.
As soon as Solyndra sought protection under bankruptcy, the investigation began in order to
determine if any laws were broken. Along with the US. Attorney s office, the Federal Bureau of
Investigation agents searched the headquarters of a Solyndra for evidence of

  • 2. Charlemagne Essay After reading two versions of The Life of Charlemagne , one written by a person who lived with Charlemagne, and one who didn t, it is evident that Charlemagne is portrayed in a negative way by the author, the Monk of St. Gall, and in a positive way by Einhard. Einhard was very close to Charlemagne. He lived at the same time and with Charlemagne himself. His version of The Life of Charlemagne was writing right after his death. The Monkof St. Gall wrote his version more than 70 years after Charlemagne s death. He did not live with or even at the same time as Charlemagne. This is probably one of the reasons the view on the ruler are completely different. The reason Einhard wrote his biography of Charlemagne was to explain to the world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Altogether, Charlemagne s rule was a successful one and Charlemagne rarely, if ever, made mistakes according to Einhard. In St. Gall s version of The Life of Charlemagne the author does not give any background information at all. The reason St. Gall is writing this version of Charlemagne s life is to blame him for the attacks going on at present times. He gives no information about Charlemagne s family or ancestors. The author immediately begins to start his complaining about how Charlemagne basically did nothing good for the empire he was ruling. After the omnipotent ruler of the world, who orders alike the fate of kingdoms and the course of time, had broken the feet of iron and clay in one noble statue, to wit the Romans, he raised by the hands of the illustrious Charles the golden head of another, not less admirable, among the Franks . At the beginning of this quote, Einhard is praising Charlemagne. St. Gall is placing Charlemagne at the same level as the Romans, saying God has raised up Charlemagne to succeed them. Then, at the end of the quote, it is unclear why St. Gall says that the bishop falls of his horse. To me, this seems some sort of a negative passage making the reader think Charlemagne is somewhat incompetent. This being the first entry in this author s text, it immediately gives off a negative feeling towards Charlemagne. The reader immediately has a negative bias towards Charlemagne ... • 3. Essay On Fight Club He d probably watched Fight Club one too many times growing up, both the novel and the film had a marked impact on Trent s band and indeed his public persona. It d been a rocky road for him to reach that place, and the character that he played was one born from necessity. Trent s father was a lifelong biker, and the president of a prominent outlaw MC in California. The man sold drugs, pimped out girls and did a little bit of everything and he d been a convict for much of his son s early years. As a result, Trent was forced to grow up in group homes, and abuse from his caretakers and older children hardened the boy, by the time his dad got out, he was a teenager and the two reconnected with Trent frequently getting into violent... There were two brothers in the group, both were Mexican Americans and they d lived their entire lives in the L.A area just as Trent had. They were the drummer and one of the guitarists respectively. The white guy was named Jackson and he was a longtime friend of Trent s and another one of the guitarists, he was an especially liberal minded giant of a guy that stood about 6 8 and was covered head to toe in tattoos. Of everyone in the group, he was the most hardcore against any sort of racism and before blowing big, his claim to fame was being televised nationally at a riot, where he punched a Nazi sympathizer in the face quite hard. He drank like a fish, but was otherwise a sweetheart with a new family of his own, and Trent was proud to be godfather to his twins. Their bassist was Trent s cousin Reggie who had come from a family of musicians. In addition they had two more members, one was an Asian American young man who everyone called kid and the other was a black woman who was petite but probably the most volatile in temperament which was saying something. They were there to add texture to the sound and both handled similar duties of sampling, keyboards, percussion and turntables. The kid s background was in Hip Hop initially, and he d been a very popular DJ at a number of clubs before signing on, while The Female Of The Species as she liked to ... Probably it s most common use today is as a filler , i.e. a word simply added to a sentence without really affecting its meaning. Strengths (company s internal factors from resources and capabilities) Bass Pro Shops have a competitive advantage, which in the text is defined as a firm has a marketing mix that the target market sees as better than a competitor s mix (Perreault et al, 2011 p. 47). With the economy in a downturn it makes it a lot more difficult for people to justify spending the money on things that they really do not need. And since these stores are not everywhere you go it causes people to travel long distances in order to visit, which means they have to spend additional money on fuel to get there. The gas prices have been increasing to amounts that have put a damper on a lot of peoples travel plans. With all of the economic problems some customers are going to go somewhere that is more local and better in their price range. In addition, Bass Pro Shops face threats from traditional and specialty sporting stores, mass merchandisers, and catalog and Internet based retailers. These merchandise providers are everywhere and the 50 Bass Pro Shops that are currently in the United States and Canada can be quite a distance for the outdoor enthusiast that already knows what he or she may need. Furthermore, the consumer who enters a store with the intention to only touch and / or play with an item that he or she ultimately plans to purchase online threatens all retail stores. We would recommend that Bass Pro Shops continue to make their stores unique; however, making a few smaller stores with some of the same features, lower prices, and closer to large shopping centers would allow customers to experience the environment, which may entice them to visit the larger stores. • 7. Connotation In Frankenstein Mary Shelley wrote her first novel, Frankenstein, in 1818, using a mixture of gothic and romantic conventions. Shelley depicts a complex relationship between a creator, Victor Frankenstein, and his creation. While the romantic setting helps to characterize Frankenstein and his creation, the dark gothic nature of the work helps to build suspense. While Frankensteinand his creation are talking for the first time, their true emotions toward one another are revealed. Through the use of various literary techniques, Shelley conveys the relationship between Victor Frankenstein and his creation as one absorbed with deep hatred and misunderstanding established through assumptions. For instance, Frankenstein tells his creation that [he] could, with the extinction of [the creation s] miserable existence, restore those victims whom [he has] so diabolically murdered! The negative connotation of diabolically, which is associated with devils, illustrates how Frankenstein views his creation. He makes an assumption about the creation murdering someone, while there is no evidence of to support this accusation. Even more, Victory claims that the tortures of hell are too mild a vengeance for thy crimes. Frankenstein continues to assume the creation is the one that committed these crimes. He claims that even hell [is] too mild for these crimes. After this assumption, the creation entreats [Victor] to hear [him], before [he] gives vent to [his] hatred on [the creation s] devoted head. The assumptions made by Frankenstein and the hatred he has for his creation leads to him misunderstanding the case the creation is attempting to create for himself. • 9. Becoming A Fashion Retail Buyer Essay Career Research Paper Growing up my thoughts and decisions constantly have changed from one to another. I never can really stay to a plan for so long without changing my mind. However, what I have found that has kept me grounded and staying on course is fashion design and retail. I am able to express myself through this medium and eventually I plan on becoming a fashionretail buyer myself. Also, I want to be involved in promoting campaigns and advertisements for the newest trends. One of the many highlights of this job is being able to travel to different states and even countries to attend trade fairs as well as visit certain suppliers. As a retail buyer, the buyer is responsible for selecting products up to date with trends and to sell them in retail shops. To become a fashion buyer one must attain a 2 4 year college degree. Along with this, when attending college a student should major in either business, marketing, or merchandising. Although internships are not required, except for certain particular business classes or programs, interning could possibly benefit someone to achieve the highest potential in their job. While training a person needs to learn the knowledge of fashion, retail, and economics. I would imagine that one must have first hand experiencein retail, which I would assume helps the person train for the job. The company s I seek interest in are higher end boutiques because I would be able to sell good quality clothes for a higher price. In cogent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dispossessed And Patterns Recognition Essay Thesis: Women s role in science fiction and how it reflects our society Women s role changing Throughout Wool, The dispossessed and Pattern recognition, we are exposed to many female characters in these novels. Although science fiction has long been defined as a genre dominated by men, it is so surprising to see that women character has played dominate roles in these novels. The impact of women on these novels can be clearly observed, but each book depicts women character so differently that made me curious about knowing further about women s status and roles play in society and how they change over time. To start with The Dispossessed, which published 1974, tells the story of the two worlds, Anarres and Urras, which are very different from each other. The passage marks a series of gendered differences between the two societies: the people live and work in Annares treat women as their equal companions and a partner that can be with them in the sexual relationship. She does not define herself as propriety to society or men. She makes her living by her unique abilities. From my perspective, it is a sign that women s role in society today is heading to a status that they gradually possess the conscious of identity rather than a dependent. This claim fails because there is no rights to have the police write a police report. Courts have held that there is no legitimate right to correct police information. An allegedly incorrect police report fails to implicate constitutional rights; Landrigan v. City of Warwick, 628 F.2d 736, 745 (1st Cir.1980). While writing stories it is importing to keep in mind that readers should be able to picture the story in their mind while reading. It is best to use effective ways to explain or describe the point; such as, wording and writing format, in order to grab reader s attention and interest them. Referring to the readings The secret of Walter Mitty written by James Thurber, and Bartleby the scrivener written by Melville, both have been written in a great effective way for readers to use their imagery and develop the ideas of what the story is about. Providing that, both stories have described the character and setting with enough details to be effective imagery for readers. Understanding the story and the main characters requires a suitable description of characteristic and personality of people in the story. Therefore, both stories have introduced the characters with a brief description to leave a picture of the characters in readers head. In reading The secret of Walter Mitty, Walter Mitty has been described as a middle age man who has trouble handling mechanical tasks, forgets mostly everything easily, and someone who is a daydreamer. This description of Walter Mitty gives readers a picture of a man who may not be able to work very well and may not have a strong memory. • 15. Eating Disorders As A Female Disorder ABSTRACT Eating disorders are one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the United States. Although this disease is typically viewed as a female disorder, males are greatly affected and may go undiagnosed and untreated due to the attached stigma. Thus, it is important to understand the risk factors associated with the development of eating disorders in males. These risk factors include: athletic involvement, sexual orientation, pre morbid obesity, and adverse childhood experiences. Eating disorder type and symptom presentation also varies between males and females. Males typically do not meet the criteria to be categorized as Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa, causing their condition to be classified as Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. Symptom presentation is likely to include binge eating and excessive exercise rather than restrictive eating, purging, or other compensatory methods commonly seen in the female population. Several eating disorder assessments are available for use in clinical practice, most of which have been geared toward the female gender. New assessments, such as the Eating Disorder Assessment for Males, have been developed recently to try to hone in on the typical male symptomatology and their psychological processes. Prompt treatment of eating disorders, regardless of gender, is necessary to prevent the development of medical and psychological comorbidities. This process cannot begin until the diagnosis has been made; therefore, additional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Inferno Research Paper Inferno Research Paper Anthony K. Cassell stated in his critical essay titled Farinata that the methods of punishment in Dante s Hell are exquisitely diverse. The cantos in Inferno are focused on Circles or subdivisions of Hell that describe specific punishments for the suffering souls based upon the sin they committed. The deeper into Hell, the worse the sins that were committed, therefore the agonies of the punishments are greater. In Inferno, Dante brings the issue of sin into light by giving instances of sins he has taken note of. He places the guilty souls at different levels of Hell, depending on which crimes he believes are the worst to commit, showing how Dante portrayed his understanding of God s justice (Cassell).... This is when Dante first begins to realize that God s justice is present is Hell. He then speaks out against all corrupt churchmen, and claims if he were not restrained, he would use even harsher words. Dante then becomes amazed, if not pleasured, with some of the punishments. In the Circle containing Thieves, Dante watches in amazement as a serpent bites a sinner between the shoulders, causing the soul to instantly catch fire, burn up, and then rise from the ashes to return to the pit of the serpents. In the First Ring of the Ninth Circle of Hell, called Caina, named after Cain who killed his brother Abel in Genesis, those who betrayed their kin are punished. The souls must stand in ice frozen up to their heads. Dante witnesses twins frozen face to face, butting their heads against each other in rage. Dante accidentally kicks Bocca degli Abati in the face, then leans down to apologize. Once he recognizes this soul, he tears out his hair before leaving him in the ice. With the constant rebuking from Virgil, Dante has learned to not pity the damned souls. • 36. The Theory Of The Constructivist Theory 1)Constructivism is a form of learning which is driven by the theory that humans are able to generate knowledge from the interaction between their experiences and their ideas(1). This makes the student actively involved in the process of synthesising meaning and knowledge. It is argued that the constructivist approach inculcates critical thinking from the extrapolation of the student s prior knowledgeand actively engaging the student in this way is much more effective than passive learningthrough acquiring knowledge in a lecture(2) Also, this form of learning can be done in a collaboration of students(3) Below are discussed some of the main types of constructivist theories. One of the principle theoretical constructs used in medical educationis known as Problem Based learning (PBL). This form of learning starts with an educator forms and presents a number of carefully constructed problems to a small group of students(4). The problems presented here are typically based on events of which the students have some prior knowledge of. This prior knowledge is discussed within the class and from this, questions are asked related to the problems presented. Following this, time is granted in which the students go away to conduct individual research on the new information which they have acquired. The students then return to their class, in which they spend one to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Murphy, however makes the sweeping assumption that discursive framing can be applied to similar conflicts, but this is not always the case. For the purpose of this literature review, discursive framing will only be applied to the concept of climate denialism that runs rampant in the Calgary Herald. In view of this, I hypothesize that the Herald will use tactics in order to increase readership and prevent readers from having to wrestle with new concepts on the subject of climate change. Boykoff and Smith would be critical of the Calgary Herald and criticize it for presenting climate change as an evenly balanced debate between apparently expert groups who were believers or deniers (Boykoff and Smith, 2010, p. 5) I intend on speaking at length in my MRP about the ramifications that arise when equal weight is given to scientific facts that are by facts and alternative facts that are generated by emotion. Will Potter in Green Is the New Red: An Insider s Account of a Social Movement Under Siege (2011, p.133) strengthens Boykoff and Smith s arguments by declaring that balancing false impressions has taken precedence over critical, investigative reporting that speaks truth to power (Potter 2011, p.133). A similar approach is taken in Erik Kojola s writing s on the political economy of the news industry that are informed by Potter s claims. Kojola looks at how truth is being compromised by corporate consolidation, profit demands, and political biases that are shaped by the ideological position of newspaper owners and editors (2015, p.7). A pile of rocks and a tattered brick wall are in the foreground, the sea and cliffs are in the middle ground, then the remote sailboat, distant land, and the moonlit skyare in the background. This photograph impressively demonstrates the uses of balance, utility, and variety in its composition. Chasing Ice Documentary Analysis Joshua Park Student ID: 604772039 October 9, 2016 EPSS 15 Chasing Ice Documentary Assignment 1 Chasing Ice is a modern documentary about the human impact on the Earth s glaciers. Following James Balog and his team the Extreme Ice Survey (EIS), the group aims to provide visible evidence of human impact on the Earth s glaciers, as they trek through harsh conditions in Alaska, Greenland, and Iceland. Balog was once a skeptic of climate change as he believed that the theory surrounding global warming was based off of computer models. Furthermore, he did not believe that humans could alter the world s climate on such a global scale. However, through studies of ice records, long tubes of ice drilled from the ground, Balog found key evidence suggesting ideas contrary to his prior beliefs. These glacial tubes preserved historical records of the past similar to the rings of a tree, recording past temperatures and CO2 levels. Using these records, one can see the direct variation between temperature and CO2. Additionally, the recent spike in both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The excess of CO2 emissions released into the atmosphere mainly caused by human activities has tilted the balance to one extreme. This phenomenon is the beginning of a chain event, which ultimately leads to the melting of our polar ice caps and glaciers. Due to the melting of ice, the average sea level is expected to rise a minimum of one and a half to three feet during our generation, which would force approximately 150 million individuals to move to a new ... The Kingdom of God has come, but it has not yet come in its fullness because the earth is not yet fully redeemed (142). This is an important distinction because it shows that Brunner has done his research, and it also helps people understand exactly how he views the Kingdom of God and how they should consequently view the Kingdom of God Near the end of the chapter Brunner talks about how Christians must [wait] upon God for the Kingdom of Heaven (142). While I agree with what he is saying, I think that Brunner should have qualified this statement to say that believers now must be actively ready for the Kingdom of God to come in its fullness by doing the work of Christ. While this may be implied in the message, stating it would have made Brunner s point clearer and more powerful. 33. AFTERWARD? Brunner makes an excellent point when he states that there is only one way to eternal life Christ (146). Many people shy away from the tough questions, but Brunner rightly states the correct theological view that only through Christ are people saved. While this declaration may seem trivial to some Christians, I believe that this statement is exactly why this book is so powerful, because it clearly and assertively proclaims the truth about Christian doctrine, which is then backed up by scripture. Learning Responsibility on City Sidewalks by Jane Jacobs opens the reader s eyes on the benefits of simple street play. In her passage, Jane Jacobs compares the more beneficial effects of sidewalk play compared to the overpraised parks. Jacobs tells us that parks don t build a stronger form of morality and help with developing more knowledge on city life like sidewalk play do. Parkchildren are given less of a chance to visually learn how to become well rounded citizens in society from adults around them. Parks are not as amazing as they re believed to be from the public. They do not offer the many chances to learn compared to what sidewalk interactions have to offer. Plus, the playgrounds do not have enough adults to actually watch over and teach children the good and the bad. Playgrounds are built for the concept of having fun, but they do not guide and raise children to be good citizens. I believe that government should not heavily fund parks because parks do not revere the essential teachings needed in society such as social abilities. Bloom argues that the previously stated viewpoint is irrational, illogical, and completely empathy based.
