Nt1330 Unit 1 Algorithm Paper
The complexity and memory requirements of the algorithm are in the order of
$D_mathcal{D}.{rm N}$, denoted as $O(D_mathcal{D}{rm N})$. The algorithm become more
effective when the minimum difference $Delta Y_k$ is large between the transmission probability
gains $Y_k$. Consequently, our algorithm finds an optimal solution coupled with linear
complexity, when the network become more heterogeneous due to small ${rm N}$. Our
algorithm also finds the optimal solution with an increased complexity, when the network
becomes more homogeneous or less heterogeneous due to increasing ${rm N}$. The
quantization precision ${rm N}$ in Algorithm 1, is a physical quantity specified by the
underlying network that elaborate the designing of quantization step. The total content size $H$
depends on the required content transmission rate $r_{c_i, d_i}$ and $Y_k$, whereas $Y_k
sigma$ are defined by the contact dynamics of the nodes in a network. However, if the network
is difficult by the required level of transmission ratio, the values of $Y_k$ and the value of $Delta
Y_k$, such that $rm N$ is too large, then the designer may have to comprise by reducing the
desired level of transmission ratio to reduce $rm N$. In results, the sub optimal... Show more

The transmission rate and contact rates between D2D pairs are often quasi statistic information. In
cellular network, all the nodes of the network can be known by their contact rates and transmission
rate to the source node, as they can access the services provided by the network. In D2D
communication, where the base station is not taking part of the data transmission, the D2D pair can
transmit the contact rates and transmission rate by opportunistic contacts. Therefore, the
information for the source node for content transmission and resource allocation of D2D pairs are

Key Historical Developments In Nursing
Key Historical Developments The purpose of this paper is to discuss four key historical
developments in nursing research and its utilization. Nursing research is the scientific process that
validates and refines the existing knowledge and generates knowledge that directly and indirectly
influences clinical nursing practice (Burns Grove, 2007, pg. 548). Whereas nursing research
utilization, is the process of taking the products of nursing research and applying them to practice in
order to improve patient care. This discussion will include the research advancements of Florence
Nightingale and the creation of the National Center for Nursing Research (NCNR) and the
publication of Image, the Sigma Theta Tau Journal, and the Conduct and... Show more content on

The publication of this document put into words how to use the products of nursing research.
The CURN project is aimed at increasing the use of research through organizational change.
Current hospital quality improvement efforts involve practicing nurses such as this writer in
review of work processes to enhance their individualized patient care. The national push to
achieve cost effective, high quality patient care based on evidence, led to the need of blending
evidence with individual clinical expertise and patient preferences to provide individualized
patient care. This paper has reviewed only four of the many contributions to nursing research
and nursing research utilization. These achievements represent the many avenues that lead to
nurse provision of individualized, expert patient care established by research evidence. The
purpose of nursing research is to address specific issues or problems and to find answers to
improve the delivery of care that nurses provide. Nursing research utilization takes the products
of nursing research to the bedside. In this way, current direct care providers can base their daily
care on research findings. This appears to be the very definition of evidence based practice and the
road to high quality, cost effective care. References Burns, N., Grove, S. K. (2007). Understanding
nursing research: Building an evidence based practice (4th ed.). St. Louis: Saunders Elsevier.

The Use And Gratification Theory Of Reality Television
Back to the history, reality TV was origin in 1948 when Allan Funt produced a television series
named Candid Camera that use hidden camera to capture people reaction in their everyday life,
(Juliana, 2010). In era of 80 s, reality TV that deals with emergency and cops stories such as
Unsolved Mysteries (1987), American Most Wanted (1988), Rescues 911 and cops (1989) became
the fashionable product of reality TV programme in America s televisionindustry. Later in 1990,
popular programme based on home video as reality TV called America s Funniest Videos were
extended the development of reality TV shows (Slocum, 2005, p 1 2)

It s explained that individuals use mass media to satisfy their needs (lull, 1980). Sen Gupta (2007)
said that, the uses and gratification theory propose that media use depends on the perceived
satisfaction, needs, wishes or motives of potential audience members. These needs could have a
social or psychological origin, with some typical those of information, relaxation, companionship
and diversion.
Blumler, Katz and Gurevitch (1974) had five elements to conceptualize the uses and gratifications
model. Their first proposition was the audience is active in using of media. Second, the audiences
choose the media to satisfy their certain needs. Third, even though the media have meets the needs,
media only satisfy a portion of the wider range of human needs. Fourth, audience members supply
data from which goals of mass media can be derived. Lastly, audience orientations are examined on

The Female Nude On The Film Fifty Shades Of Grey
The Female Nude in Fifty Shades of Grey
This essay will be an analysis of the Female Nude in the film Fifty Shades of Grey. The female
nude is one of the topics that has been covered and this essay will be a discussion of the female
character Anastasia and how her representation has been portrayed in the film. There are a number
of nudity scenes in Fifty Shades of Grey and this involves anyone that is naked or typically wearing
less clothes. There will also be references to the female body in the essay and how it has been
portrayed in films.
The female body is generally portrayed in a negative way. In most films, the female character is
represented as being weak and vulnerable, they are only there to be looked at by the audience.
Anastasia is the female protagonist in the film, she lacks of confidence in her own appearance.
There is a sense of insecurity and she hasn t realised her own natural beauty. Anastasia is a small
young woman with a slim beautiful figure. There are only glimpses of Anastasia s body and this
is known as Partial nudity which is parts of her body covered up in some manner, it refers to the
exposure of her skin in different places. This kind of nudity is used in many scenes in the film and
it refers to the exposure of Anastasia breasts and other parts of her body. The films erotic nature
means that there a number of scenes with certain parts of Anastasia body that has been exposed.
Throughout the film, there is a lot of attention towards her curves and

Examples Of Transcendentalism In The Crucible
Out with the old and in with the new, transcendentalists began rejecting old Puritan and Calvinist
ideas, these old ideas are deeply imbedded in the minds of the people of Salem. During the witch
trails instead rejected these old ideas they were clung to. However, transcendentalists rejected these
old ideas, thus making themselves individuals and optimistic, and by rejecting such they expressed
their emotions and saw God through nature rather than the strict guild lines of the church. A
protagonist of transcendentalismwould accept these ideas. In the play The Crucible by Arthur
Miller, Elizabeth Proctor, the wife of the main character John Proctor, is a protagonist in the eyes
of a transcendentalist. She rejects old ideas, and strays from... Show more content on

Truth and confidence are the roots of happiness. In the play Elizabeth s husband John asks her
whether or not he will be judged if he lies about practicing witchcraft, Elizabeth replies that she
cannot judge him, nobody can judge him but himself, she then asks for forgiveness and tells him
that she has never known anyone one who has more goodness than him (Miller 137). Elizabeth
was given the choice to tell John what to do or let him make his own decision; she made him
become an individual by letting him choose what to do. Elizabeth supports John being an
individual, making herself a protagonist.
Another idea of transcendentalism is that society a source of corruption. John decides to
conform to what society wants and confesses that witchcraft is real, then turns and decides that
he will die for what he believes and not to follow the path of those accused, whom of which
confessed. As John goes to die Mr. Hale, a judge, tell Elizabeth to change John s mind her reply
is, He have his goodness now. God forbid I take it from him (Miller 145)! Elizabeth does not wish
for John to yield to an unjust society. In doing this Elizabeth further becomes a

Theme Of Foreshadowing In A Rose For Emily
A Rose for Emily is a story written by William faulkner which depicts the life of a rather odd
woman. At the beginning of the story, the reader learns that Miss. Emily is dead, but is unaware
of the dark side of her life. The author portrays events in Miss. Emily s life which lead up to the
discovery of her personal life. These events were manipulated over time in order to build suspense
within the reader. Throughout the passage, Falkner manipulates time in order to create tension and
suspense. In A Rose for Emily, William Faulkneruses foreshadowing in order to create tension
and suspense throughout the story. Faulkner immediately hints at what will happen to Homer
Barron when he tells the reader that he never comes back out of the house. For example,
Faulkner states, And that was the last we saw of Homer Barron. And of Miss Emily for some
time. The Negro man went in and out with the market basket, but the front door remained closed.
(Faulkner 7).The author foreshadows that something bad will be revealed to the reader. The
reader is tense because they do not know what happened to Homer. Miss Emily never opening the
door leaves the reader with a suspenseful feeling that cannot be resolved until the story s
conclusion. Later in the story, Faulkner removes the reader s perplexity when he reveals the reason
Homer Barron went missing. The people searched the sealed up room and find that the man himself
lay in the bed (Faulkner 9.) Faulkner reveals the mystery behind the

Food in Italy
Introduction
There is a saying that states one either lives to eat or eats to live and Italy as a country is ruled
by the former. Italy is a culture that is rich and saturated in their traditions of cooking. They take
pride in their food and live by the credo that food is only used if it is fresh, local and in season.
There has been much debate on what defines Italian food and through research one can see that
Italian food is not typical of a specific dish, rather that each region offers a new variance of depth
and originality that is not common to the Americanized beliefs of solely pasta and pizza. Yes one
could lump Italian food into categories such as breads, pasta, olive oil, cured meats and cheese but
each of these foods is made in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way Piedmontese love to eat their vegetables is with a bagna caurda, one of their most
authentic dishes. In a terracotta pot, garlic and anchovies are simmered with olive oil to form a
thick sauce, then raw seasonal vegetables and breads are dipped into the sauce and eaten.
Although this is one of Piedmont prized dishes, the climate is not conducive to grow olive trees
and therefore to produce olive oil. However, Piedmont has a standing relationship with
neighbouring region Liguria and trades wine for olive oil (Costanzia, 2009). The food richest in
tradition, uniqueness and specialty to Piedmont is the white truffle. Each year a truffle festival is
held on the first Sunday of October bringing in thousands of people from all over the world to
hunt for truffles and celebrate the harvest. Truffles are a beautifully aromatic mushroom that can
be grated on top of salad, pasta or risotto dishes (Roden, 1990). Autumn is the best time for
cooking in Piedmont as it is game season, frog and snail season and most products are ready for
harvest: grapes, truffles and wild mushrooms (Kistioukovitch, 2009).
Protein in a Piedmontese diet mainly comes from pork, cattle and game. Since Piedmont is
situated inland fish is not a staple in their diet. Freshwater fish and trout are found in some
mountain streams with eels and frogs found in the rice fields. However, a healthy diet of saltwater
fish as found in the south of Sicily

The Importance Of Curfew Laws In Baltimore
Law enforcers and city officials in Baltimore are cracking down on the curfew for children in
their city. Recent events such as a 3 year old being killed by a stray bullet make law enforcers
believe that having a curfew can help to protect innocent children from misfortunate events. The
new curfew states that children younger than 14 must be inside by nine o clock, while 14 16 year
olds have to be home by ten o clock on school nights. On weekends and summer nights 14 16 year
olds can be out until eleven o clock.
Some parents of teenagers are glad that a new curfew is being put in place; however, not every
person feels the same way. For example, the American Civil Liberties Union believes that the
curfew might cause an increase in juvenile criminals due to rebellions ... Show more content on

The teenager in me says, No. The considerate human in me who wants to prevent drugs and
alcohol in children says, Yes. When I really consider this, and place myself in a teenager s shoes
in Baltimore, I am still undecided. Based on my personal experience, which is minimal, I don t
believe a curfew is going to help many of the children or parents in Baltimore. Therefore, I don t
believe this policy will be worthwhile. The curfew might help one or two kids seek proper help;
however I find it hard to imagine that one policy setting a curfew can fix adolescent behavior. If
the people in Baltimore are willing to put in the time and money of following through with this
policy to help just a handful of children, then I think they should go through with it, but if they are
expecting massive results, this policy should be revised. The children who could receive better
futures because of this policy are the people who should get to decide if they want it or not, but the
people who should have the most say in the matter are the ones with the smallest voices of

Summary Of Gary Althen s American Values And Assumption
In the article, American Values and Assumptions , Gary Althen notes that people who grow up in
the same culture share their ideas and beliefs most of the time. They agree, not always, with each
other. Each culture has its own values and assumptions. The meaning of culture can be a group of
values and assumptions that complain with each other to form a certain people comprehensions
and link it to the world around them. In Althen s article, he discusses individualism, privacy,
equality, informality, competition, and time about the American culture. In American culture, the
most important thing is to understand their individualism. Althen also believes that Americans need
a time to be alone which called privacy. Moreover, the equality value that... Show more content on

The writer uses lexical repetition, which means that they are many repeated words in the article, to
attract the reader s attention to the important ideas of the article. The author use various word
repetition such as, money , American , and Values and Assumptions. The purpose of repetition is to
make the writing clear and cohesive. Also, to emphasize the point throughout the essay and meet
the requirements of it. Therefore, the author sometimes but sentences between commas to show us
the important of this sentence or the opposite which you can ignore this sentence. For example, in
paragraph 6 line 3, when the mother said, Or, you could save your money, and sometime later... The
author wants us to recognize how the mother treats her son by telling him to save his money and
but what he want, she is not going to buy it for him. He wants us to understand how American
makes their children responsible for everything they need even for silly things like juice. The last
thing is that Althen uses the quotation marks in the story of the boy, paragraph 6, which consider
a direct speech to make the story more effective so we can imagine what is the character of the
mother which we ll know it by her own

Summer Camp Personal Statement
During the summer of 2016, I was a volunteer at the Ridge Meadows Child Development Centre s
Therapeutic Summer Camp. My experience at the camp was a memorable one, since I met a young
boy with ADHD. Though it was difficult to get his attention, his condition made me more aware
and got me to communicate in a more innovate way. By talking about a common interest of ours,
the sport of soccer, I was not telling him instructions or asking him for his attention, but instead
giving him mine. Besides my volunteering at the summer camp, I have been a part of many
activities, such as the VolunTEEN program and the Ridge Meadows Homeshow, all throughout
high school and the experiences have shaped who I am today.
Currently in my third year, I am volunteering at my local hospital and residential home, Baillie

A Struggle For Employees Inside The Working Environment
Outside and interior strengths make a struggle for employees inside the working environment. With
a battling economy and perpetually expanding costs for sustenance, gas, utilities, and different
items, these outer hassles place struggle on workers home lives. Employees convey those outside
clashes to work. These outside hassles additionally put intense financial conditions on employers.
The workforces also feel the boss working environment loads as well. Chatter, bits of gossip and
dread of decreases in the workforce, cutting back because of changing innovation and outside
exchange, diminishments and terminations in hours worked with the loss of advantages, and loss
of business makes agitation and precariousness for both bosses and representatives. Indeed, even
those employees who are sufficiently fortunate to keep their occupations amid a financial downturn
are tasked with substantial workloads to compensate for the diminishments in the workforce and
rare assets. These all in mix prompts the condition, where organizations are compelled to create
more with darling measure of assets. The outer powers increase with a focused on the economy and

Living A Happy And Simple Life
Do you think it is possible to live a happy and simple life? It is more than certainly possible to live

live a luxurious life, you could be the poorest person in the world but also the happiest. Social
media is also a very big aspect for humanity when it comes to happiness.
As stated in the introduction, you can be the poorest person in the world, yet happier than the
richest person. A statement from a very well known commercial and advertisement company

Some may say that money is what true happiness is all about, money buys happiness, and
without riches, you are nothing and have no reasons to be happy, nor exist. If one has all the best
things in life, it will make them happy, for it has no reason to do otherwise. Social networking is
mandatory because without it you are left in the dark about what is going on in the world and one
s happiness has nothing to do with people s use of social media.
However, those who say money buys happiness must be one of two things; liers or blind to the
fact that you can have true happiness with no money at all. According to Bruno, Living simple is
not easy because it requires lots of patience and dedication. First you would need to make a game
plan and know you want in life, what you need, and what you can live without. It is interesting to
find out all the things you can live without that you once thought you needed to survive. Planning is
the key to having a happy and simple life (2017).
Social Media is more than definitely an indication for one s happiness because as stated early,
there are many events that occur where someone gets bullied and begins having suicidal thoughts
or get depressed from all the negative situations shown on the Internet which allows no room for
happiness. Sometimes it is better to not know what is going on in life, if it has no personal affect
on you, their should be no reason for you to

Coming Of Age Ceremony Essay
Every year on the third Monday in May, Korea celebrates the coming of age ceremony for young
men and women turning 19 in that year. Aside from the ceremonies in different parts of the
country, there is also an award ceremony to laud exemplary young adults. The usual gifts for this
day are popularly given as a bouquet of red roses and, if lucky, a first kiss. Champagne and
perfume are other two options with high tech gadgets being the latest addition these days.
Despite the western appearance however, the coming of age ceremony has its own tradition dating
as far as the Goryeo Dynasty (918 1392). The first written record of Korea s coming of age
ceremony is found in 965, during King Gwangjong s reign (925 975). It was written at the time that

Their coming of age ceremony would take place in the year they turned 15 and they would be
taught the virtues of a woman. They too would visit ancestral shrines to inform the heaven of their
maturity. The ritual would be called a gyerye.
The coming of age ritual was a prerequisite for both men and women to get married.
As recently as the mid 1950s it was quite common to see traditional coming of age rites held in
towns and villages with the attendance of the elderly. By the latter half of the 20th century
however, the influx of western culture and its manner of enjoying the rite of passage into adulthood
came to replace traditional rites more and more.
In 1999, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in order to resurrect the tradition, came up
with standardized coming of age rites to be practiced in schools and towns. The purpose was to

how would you describe the typical relationship between these two products ? The two goods are

With the income effect you consume less of both goods (since real income has decreased).
Therefore at the new equilibrium, you consume less of X and the amount of consumption of Y
depends on the relative strength of the two effects. (5) Think of a commercial establishment
(department store, coffee shop, gas station, store from which you make common purchases that
is spending your hard earned money) and think through the questions in the previous exercise
(4) as they would apply yourself and to the goods offered by this establishment. That is, take any
two goods or groups of goods from the store you have chosen and re do the questions in (4) as
they would really apply to you and your tastes. Now you are thinking economics and thinking
creatively as well! Consider choice made between having fruit beer(X) or having ice cream(Y)
after dinnerassuming that both are good goods. At the equilibrium, the MRS=price ratio = PX
/PY. At the equilibrium, the indifference curve is tangential to the budget line. MRS =MUX
/MUY =PX/PY, i.e. MUX/PX = MUY/PY Now it is given that X(fruit beer) is craved much more
for relative to Y(ice cream). Hence the indifference curves becomes steeper. That is now you are
willing to give up more amount of Y to have a unit more of X. Alternatively, it can be said that
you need more of Y to leave you indifferent for the same decrease in X. Hence the slope of the
indifference curve, i.e. the marginal rate of substitution increases, i.e. MUx/MUY increases.

The Origin Of The Egyptian Religion
Horus is one of the oldest and most meaningful deities in agent Egyptian religion. He was
worshiped through the late predynastic period and through the Greco Roman times. From as far
back as we know the Egyptians believed that Osiris was of divine origin, that he suffered death and
mutilation at the hands of evil, and after a great struggle with these powers he rose again, that he
then became the king of the underworld and judge of the dead, and because he had conquered death
the honorable also might conquer death (Horusof Edfu). There is so much that we have learned
about Horus, from who he was before he was a God, to who he symbolizes, and the different ways
of representation. Horus s mother was the Goddess Isisand his father was Osiris. Isis fled from Set
to give birth to Horus safely, knowing Set would want to kill Horus as he already killed Osiris.
Horus then became Set s enemy, eventually defeating Set, thus avenging his father and assuming

The Problem Of Mental Illness
Eight years old was the age when Elyn Saks experienced the first symptoms of an illness that would
later threaten to tear apart her entire future. To complicate the situation, she was not dealing with an
entirely physical illness. Although she did not know at the time, Saks was suffering from the
beginnings of the notorious mental illness called Schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is widely known
for the way in which it inhibits a person s sense of reality, causing hallucinations and delusions
among those who suffer from it. This disease is often the first idea that comes to mind when
anyone says the phrase mental illness. The world society still fears and romanticizes the concept
of much mental illness, illness that often devastates lives. Media portrayal of the topic has
caused many to regard it as a taboo subject, but this issue is one that needs to be addressed. I
became interested in the topic of mental illness when I was in the eighth grade, due to struggles
that I began to notice within myself. Now, three years later, I have been diagnosed with
generalized anxiety disorder and major depression. There are misconceptions surrounding and
engulfing mental disorders and I felt that it was important that I fight not only for my own benefit
but for others battling these illnesses as well. The views in modern day of mental illness are
varying from accepting to a complete denial of a problem. It hurts those suffering from mental
illness when the uneducated public majority beats

Summary of Article
Marriott to Buy Starwood Hotels, Creating World s Largest Hotel Company is an article I retrieved
from The New York Times, which deliberates, how Marriott International acquired Starwood Hotels
and Resorts Worldwide for $12.2 billion. The announcement was a surprise to the industry, because
Hyatt Hotel Corporation, InterContinental Hotels Group and some other Chinese companies were
in the blend to pursue the transaction, Additionally, Marriott is more considered as a dominant
entity in the hotel industry, especially in the upscale sector where Starwood also has a dominant
name.
By Marriott, a strategic review begun several months ago but at first Marriott wasn t fully

in the value of the company, which made it more attractive economically, and Marriott started to

resulted a deal, which created the world s largest hotel with more than 5,500 hotels.

To determine the bargaining power of the supplier, one examines how much power a business s
supplier has and how much control it has over the potential to raise its prices, which, in turn
would lower a business s profitability (Brooks). Since Alliant Energy and its subsidiaries operate
out of northern Iowa, central and southern Wisconsin, and southern Minnesota they have the
ability to efficiently supply their operational needs, thus limiting the need for outside suppliers.
In this situation, Alliant would have plenty of bargaining power, since they can dictate the
prices they are willing to pay. Just as the suppliers lack the ability to have bargaining power, so
does the customers Alliant Energy serves. According to Porter s fourth force bargaining power
of the consumer, this force looks at the power of the consumer to affect pricing and quality.
Consumers have the power when there are not many of them, but many sellers, as well as when
it is easy to switch from one business s product or services to another (Brooks). In this type of
market, the buying power of the consumer is very low, due to the limitation of corporate
competition. Alliant Energy has what is called a Regional Monopoly , where they control an entire

My Thoughts On Type Of Training Essay

experienced while starting this position. I appreciate everything you have done for me so far and
though there were great qualities to this training program, I believe that there are many areas that
could be improved upon as well. I know that you have put ample time into a training manual to
make sure that new employees are learning everything they should. The purpose of this letter is
solely to give you input from the other side of the training manual. There may be things that you

that were not addressed during the training session.

In both Dawn by Octavia Butler, and District 9 we see the arrival of aliens and the dawn of a post
human future. While the Oankali of Dawn and the Prawns of District 9 differ in their appearances
and behavior there are some striking themes from both. The first is that as humans we are insecure,
inadequate creatures to guide our own future. As both stories progress humans are forced to
examine things that we were once confident in, whether it is Dawn s portrayal emasculating the

Thoreau s House Near Walden Analysis
The location of Thoreau s house near walden pond is detailed revealing its location is near the
Fitchburg Railroad. The locomotive is perceived as disruptive, as it interrupts his state of serenity in

How To Illustrate The Two Ways Of International Expansion...
Companies have an amazing ability to grow and develop on the market. Companies are able to
expand on several different platforms including nationally, internationally, online and many other
ways. How companies are able to develop gives a good idea to how successful they will be in the
long run. By developing different strategies companies are able to develop nationally as well of
internationally. By reaching out into new markets, companies are able to expand even beyond
borders.
Describe two major ways in which a company can grow. Give examples to illustrate the two ways
of growing.
Companies are able to grow in many different ways. Two of those ways are international expansion
and inorganic growth. With international expansion companies decide to move their companies to
another country in hopes of breaking into the market in the host countries. Trading in the European
union has risen by 30% in the last 30 years(Davis, p2). Companies want to expand internationally
because they are able to hire for cheaper and establish a competitive advantage over their
competition.Growing internationally can be very difficult. Differences in language, culture, laws,
production cost and other situations that can cause conflict. Inorganic growth is when a company s
joins other already established companies. When joining another company, they could either be
merging or taken over. In horizontal integration is when two companies at the same stage in
production merge whereas in vertical

The first and lowest level of criminal charge that you can face is an ordinance. Every city, state
and township has its own specific laws that they enforce and in legal terms these laws are referred
to as ordinances. Generally, a financial penalty is associated with most ordinance violations and
they do not go on your formal criminal record. One rarely needs an attorney to fight against an

that you will face the consequences of a guilty plea long after you have served your time or paid
a fine. If any employers or rental agencies run a background check on your, your misdemeanor
will most likely show up and could compromise future jobs and housing prospects. #4 Felonies
The fourth and most serious type of criminal charge that you can face is a felony. A felony
conviction almost guarantees that you will spend time in either a state or federal prison,
depending on whether the state or federal government brought the charges against you. A felony
conviction should always show up on any background checks employers and housing agencies

African Americans Attitudes Towards Police Essay
African Americans Attitudes towards Police

Abstract
Past experiences have shown that African Americans tend to have a more hostile relationship with
police officers than other races. Research from multiple scholars confirms that there is in fact a
correlation between a person s race and the attitude they have towards officers. This experiment
aims to verify that race is responsible for this difference in attitude. A survey containing multiple

By using data from the BJS Police Public Contact Survey, the researchers found that officer race
is an important factor in how Blacks and Latinos recognize officers (Cochran Warren, 2012).
They were more likely to trust minority police than white ones. Christopher Huggins looked into
citizen reports of police behavior during traffic stops in an effort to understand how officer and
citizen race can influence reports of impropriety. Through analyzing 6,301 citizen reports of
traffic encounters with police researchers discovered that African Americans are less likely than
whites to report proper police behavior when they encounter officers of any race (Huggins,
2012). Han Toch s book, Volatile Scenarios in the Ghetto (2012), discusses the findings of the
Kerner Commission, an 11 member committee made to investigate the causes of race riots in the
1960s, and what exactly these findings convey. According to Toch s book, the Kerner
Commission found that race riots took place in areas where a large number of police officers had
contact with the public (2012). The Commission mentioned that the targeting of blacks,
particularly black men, sparked resistance and hostility towards the officers (Toch, 2012). The
over aggression of some officers also led to a widespread distrust of police by the African
American community, which was a building block in a lot of race riots. In general the combination

Reserve and National Guard members, who report combat exposure, were more likely to

the odds of suicidal ideation (Maguen et al, 2015). In a study performed with Vietnam veterans,

Lesson Four: Capstone Review
(The Grudge)
The film I recently watched was The Grudge. The film was filmed entirely in Tokyo where
Japanese director Takaghi Shimizu brought the popular Japanese horror stories to the American
movie viewers. I went into The Grudge expecting a horror film based on the previews I had seen.
When I watched the movie I found it to be quite a bit scary than what the previews had made it to
be. So the film held up to its previews, however it was scary I would not rank it very high.
The movie stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, During the film Sarah Michelle Gellar plays (Karen Davis)

anyone and everyone who enters is cursed and will eventually be claimed by the ghosts who

Analysis Of The Chase Annie Dillard
All good things must come to an end. A common phrase we have become accustomed to hearing,
and a phrase that parallels the meaning of Annie Dillard s The Chase , an excerpt from her
autobiography An American Childhood. In The Chase (1987), Annie Dillard recounts how
childhood, no matter how enjoyable, will come to a close. Dillard conveys this by carefully
detailing her childhood experience as a tomboy and that nothing girls did could not compare (1).
Her experience during the chase symbolized an end of Dillard s childhood and wishing for the
glory to last forever (19). The author recounts her story of the chase in order to express
exuberance and love for childhood compared to the fact of mandatory growing old. The author
addresses the audience in this narrative chapter of An American Childhood to express how short
childhood is is this passing craze of life. The author uses expertly composed imagery,
parallelism, diction and tone to create the impactful story in a chapter of her autobiography. The
use of imagery builds the story and expresses how important Dillard s childhood was in shaping
the women she has become today . The excerpt begins with a reflection upon her childhood and
growing up a tomboy. Dillard set the stage for the chase by explaining the day as cloudy but cold
(5) with cars lining the snow covered street. Imagery is used not only to set the stage for the day
of the chase but it is also used to describe the man chasing them as a city man dressed in a suit

understand how unusual the man s appearance was and that the man was chasing them through
the city. Dillard builds the suspense of the chase by taking the reader through the motions, past a
...yellow house...under a low tree, up a bank, through a hedge... (12), she builds an image in our
minds of the neighborhood. The imagery is used to build up the scene, convey suspense and
create emotions for the reader. Dillard chose to use diction, or word choice, to accent the two
different aspects of the story. One aspect of the author s word choice was to portray her young,

The Death Of Common Sense, By Philip K. Howard
You will be surprised to learn that using simple common sense can take us a long way towards
happiness and thriving in life. But we also know that common sense is, sometimes the most
uncommon thing. Again, using common sense requires some thinking on our part and we forget or
refuse to do that because of ignorance, negligence or stubbornness.
I recently read a book called The Death of Common Sense, by Philip K. Howard. It is a book about
the system of governmental regulations and how it is suffocating America. The author argues that
although we have a democratic system in this country, the laws and statutes that we have created
are actually stifling people rather than making them grow.
Speaking of democracy, we Americans think that we have the greatest democracy in the world. I
think what we have is plutocracy, a political system influenced and run by wealthy in dividuals and
corporations. By its decision on Citizens United v. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As U.S. Senator, Elizabeth Warren correctly argues, today the game is rigged rigged to work for
those who have money and power.29
The Death of Common Sense provides many stories of how bureaucratic rigidity, ineffec tive
regulation, and overly complex procedures and rules have superseded good judgment and
common sense. For example, the book begins with the story of an abandoned building in New
York City that was sold to the Sisters of Mother Theresa for one dollar, to make it into a home less
shelter.
The code required that the building should have an elevator. It would cost the Sisters an extra
$100,000. The Sisters were willing to use the stairs; the homeless people wouldn t have really
cared whether there was an elevator, as long as they had a place to sleep. The irony is that it
would cost $100,000 for an elevator for a building that they paid one dollar for. The city wouldn t
budge. And the Sisters had to abandon the

How to Enjoy Cleaning Your Bedroom Essay
The hardest thing for a lot of students is keeping a clean bedroom. It can be very intimidating to
clean your bedroom, especially if its been a a disaster for quite some time. You may find yourself
getting overwhelmed and asking yourself where should you even start? Well in my experience I
have had the best results just by following three very simple steps, which include creating a good
cleaning environment, getting organized, and finally polishing everything up.
First and foremost before you begin cleaning; you need to create a good cleaning environment. You
can do this by simply putting on any music that you enjoy listening to; I recommend something that
you can sing along with. This will help to distract you from the ... Show more content on

In order to get organized; you need to get rid of any unwanted items that are laying around, such
as garbage, dirty dishes, and of course dirty clothes. Once you get all of these items in their
designated spots, you will be left with only the items that actually belong in your bedroom. From
there you would begin to start putting these remaining items in their proper place. I would suggest
to start with folding all of your clothes and getting them put away in either your dresser or closest
because your clothes often times take up the most space. Then you can focus on all of the other
random things that are scattered about.
Since you have everyting picked up and put in its proper place, you can start on the final step,
which consists of all the polishing and finishing touches. This is when you would get your cleaning
products ready because now all there is left to do is dust, sweep, and make your bed. It is very
important that you remember to dust and clean all the surfaces before you begin to sweep. If
you decide to sweep first, then once you start dusting you will only get more dust and dirt on the
floor and therefore have to sweep a second time. One last finishing touch that I personally like to
do once the polishing is finished, is light a candle. That way it will hide the smell of any cleaning
products you may have used and your room will

Zenobia In Nathaniel Hawthorne s Blithedale Romance
The hardest thing to do is to be true to yourself especially when everybody is watching . In
Nathaniel Hawthorne 1854 novel Blithedale Romance supposed to be utopian society but falls
short when Coverdale and Hollingsworth have their own view of what Blithedale is supposed to
look like. For example Coverdale uses and wants Blithedale for his poetry and Hollingsworth
wants to use Blithedale to reform criminals. Both of these men aren t there for a utopian
community (where it can be a better living space for them) but they re rather focus on their own
objectives. In addition, there is another important character related to this book and that s Zenobia.

Priscilla is a young, beautiful teenage girl who is very naive. Introducing her first night at
Blithedale she trustingly betook herself into the shadow of Zenobia s protection (58) and
follows Zenobia continuously, because she is an older women with much to learn from. At first
Zenobia is reluctant to show any emotion towards Priscilla because she sees Priscilla as being
young minded and compared to her life she sees herself as a matured and aged women. I think
Zenobia is reluctant because she don t want nobody figuring out who she is and having Priscilla
look over her put pressure on her to only put more of an act on. But Zenobia do acknowledges
Priscilla has lots to learn by saying Every day I shall give you a lecture...on morals, manners, and
properties of social life (56). Zenobia recognizes that she is the only person to show her
womanly things as people from Blithedale did see her as a feminist for women s rights..
Although Priscilla s can be honest and innocent of all love she is faced with Zenobia s feelings
representing another element of deceitfulness in her character. In reality Zenobia reveals she is
jealous of Priscilla in many ways for her beauty, how they must compete for Hollingsworth s
love and affection, and the attention she gets Zenobia wants that. Zenobia compares herself to
Priscilla stating the obvious who can offer more to Hollingsworth and who has more to give to
Blithedale. Zenobia feels she shouldn t have to compete with a teenage girl to get what she want
so she lowers Priscilla into her mind of thinking, tricking her, and playing her and most
importantly trying to keep her away from Hollingsworth. Furthermore, Zenobia is upset at
Hollingsworth because he describes Priscilla as being this lovely women She is the most
admirable handiwork of God, in her true place and character. Her place is at a man s side (86).

What Was The Impact Of Nationalism In Germany Between 1815...
Nationalism was a result of a myriad of contributing factors which had a plethora of significant
impacts on Germany during the years 1815 and 1871. Nationalism is an ideology based on the
sense of loyalty and devotion one has to their nation and the beliefs that those who share a common
language, history, and culture should constitute an independent nation free of foreign domination.
The first, and perhaps most significant, effect that nationalism had upon Germanywas that it led to
German unification in 1871. Another impact that nationalism had in Germany was that it allowed
Germans to develop a sense of national identity. Nationalism also played a huge role in enabling
Germany to become a dominant power within Europe. Therefore, nationalism... Show more content

Many attempts to unify the separate German speaking countries were made prior to its official
unification, however, they were all ultimately unsuccessful. This was due to the fact that although
the people were Germanic, they had little sense of a national identity. Nationalism was a driving
force behind the development of a national consciousness as it assisted people in realising that they
were all German and, as a result, were all similar in many ways. These commonalities encouraged
the emergence of a distinct German identity. The biggest cultural factor was undoubtedly the
German language. Although there were different dialects used among the states, these variations
emerged from the same source, hence, the German people had shared a common language. All the
states also shared customs and a common culture, which stemmed from similar tastes in literature
and music. There was an increase in German literature, from the works of Goethe and Schiller, that
recognised common German characteristics and an interest in folklore also emerged at the time, as
a result of the works of The Brothers Grimm, who presented these tales as German in origin and
changed details that suggested different origins. What became the German national anthem was a
poem that read Deutschland Гјber alles / Гњber alles in der Welt , which translates to Germany
above all else / Above all else in the world . The task of creating the German nation state was one
that required and generated a significant amount of hope in the citizens of Germany, who were able
to transcend territories, borders and different cultural

Today you will be learning the proper techniques for load out, staging, and the transport of market

When the crew arrives at the finisher barn two things are important: staying aware of what is going
on and clear communication.
Before guiding the chute to the stoop, know all of the proper hand signals. Uniform communication
reduces risk for injury or mistakes
It is important that the edge of the chute lines up with the stoop to prevent a gap.
When removing the chute from the hitch, it is important not to quickly let go of the chute and
allow it to fall. Using your body weight allows it to slowly drop.

It is beneficial to equalize the temperature between the outside and inside. By adjusting the curtains
it prevents animals from balking due to the drastic change in temperature once they approach the
threshold.
Remember: it is the Crew Leader s responsibility to make sure that the barn s curtains are returned
to the automatic setting before leaving the barn.
Before moving any animals, make sure that all things on this check list have been completed.
Before beginning to back the trailer to the load out chute, make sure that all crew members and
people are clear of the path between trailer and chute.
Proper hand signals and paying attention are key to backing the market trailer to the chute.
Stop the market driver about four feet from the chute so you can raise and secure the trailer s roll
gate.
Secure the roll gate s rope to the tie off on the trailer, and continue the back up process.
Allow a few inches between the trailer and chute so the chute sits down into the trailer s opening
once you have lowered the chute down.
Secure the chute extensions on both sides to the market trailer. The doors of the chute must extend
into the inside of the trailer.
Spread bags of wood chips evenly on the chute and both decks of the market trailer. It blends the
surfaces of the chute and trailer together so the hog doesn t recognize the transition.

The Importance Of Neuropsychology And Its Effects On The...
Neuropsychology
Introduction
Neuropsychology is one of the many braches of psychology.
Explanation of Neuropsychology and Relevance to the Field of Psychology Neuropsychology is
the study of brain behavior relationships (Barkley, 1983). It is the scientific study of the association
between the different structures and physiological processes of the nervous system and the
behavior of organisms (Barkley, 1983). The focus of this particular field in psychologyis not just
pertaining to humans as research on infrahumans consistently provides simple scientific
information and data from which research ideas on humans will be drawn/ concluded from
(Barkley, 1983). For example, research that was conducted on rats involved giving amphetamines
to the rats with given closed head injuries yielded the option of exploring the use of stimulant
drugs in helping the recovery of adults and children that have experienced accidental closed head
trauma (Barkley, 1983). The field includes the study of developmental changes of the nervous
system and it s behavioral parallels as well as the effects of experimental and also accidental
changes of the nervous system on the behavior of an individual (Barkley, 1983). Essentially, clinical
neuropsychology is the application of this information and knowledge, as well as knowledge from
other fields of psychology, to the testing and treatment of humans having showed or performed
signs of neurological illnesses or diseases (Barkley, 1983). These

Formal Analysis Paper
The purpose of this paper is the study of formality and informality in letters. Throughout this
analysis we get the idea of how language works in different contexts. In order to carry on this
research I will explain the main features that make a text formal or informal depending on certain
aspects.
So as to complete this research I have required a collection of several letters, four exactly, in
order to see the different features that each text presents; Using less number of texts would have
been problematic because I would not have enough data to show clearly the differences. The
letter of apology is taken from the Archdiocese of Washington and is addressed to a parishioner;
the letter of complaint is taken from the co founder and executive director of Stop Animal
Exploitation Company which is addressed to Dr Gibbens the director of USDA/APHIS/AC
(United State Department of Agriculture; Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and Animal
Care respectively) against the University of Nevada, Reno facility. Finally The formal letters are
taken from two people who posted their private letters in a website. ... Show more content on

It is the easiest way to point out a special occasion or to express something which is difficult to
say face to face, (BBC). For instance a letter expressing best wishes for the graduation of a
friend, for a job promotion or to communicate with a friend who lives in another country, etc.
They use to be private, friendly and spontaneous. In contrast when we want to make a complaint
or an inquiry, to send an apology, to apply for a job or to find out information we use formal
letters. In fact the main difference between formal and informal letter is that each one serve a
different goal: a formal letter is written for professional or academic purposes (official and
business) whereas the informal letter is applied to personal communication,

Two Great Short Stories Read by Many are A Rose for Emily...
Two of the greatest short stories written back in late 19th and early 20th centuries are still read
by many people. The two stories are A Rose for Emily written by William Faulkner and Guy De
Maupassant s The Necklace . Faulkner s book is about a woman named Emily Grierson s life
and her horrible secret she hides. The other book is about a materialistic woman named Mathilde
Loisel loses a fake necklace and find out to be a fake one after ten years later. Although these
stories are written about fifty years apart and written from two different countries, these two stories
have many similarities and differences. A Rose for Emily and The Necklace are juxtaposed with
the main characters, usage of symbolism on the title, and the tone... Show more content on

Also these items can reflect the strong symbolism in it. Faulkner used a rose, but De
Maupassant used the necklace to represent the main character s emotions in two items. The
difference in those symbols is that a rose has only appeared on the title but the necklace is the
whole flow of the story. Faulkner leaves the reader to interpret the rose s symbolic meaning. The
rose is usually a powerful symbol of love, it always has been, and portrays an everlasting beauty.
Moreover, the rose has been used for centuries to illustrate an eternal type of love and
faithfulness. Therefore, readers can infer the meaning that the rose present in the title, and
portray it to Emily that she does not have love in her life. The necklace, however it is the
important items that lead to the climax of the story. It is pretty but worthless, shows the
awareness of appearance and real world. Also, the fake necklace shows Mathilde s desire to be
something she is not. The last comparison about these two narratives about tone. The tone of two
narratives is very ironic. There are many ironies to be found in A Rose for Emily. One of the
examples, when she is speaking with the Aldermen. They are trying to convince Emily to pay
her taxes and she simply repeated a person s name who has been dead for ten years. The other
story The Necklace also have many ironical quotes. Mathilde Loisel really wants to be in the upper
class society, but because she shows persistence borrowing the

Summer Night, Riverside
The poem Summer Night, Riverside by Sara Teasdale, at first glance, appeared to be a poem full
of tenderness and admiration. While reading the piece, an image of two young lovers spending a
night together in a park formed in my mind. They spent time watching lights twinkle like golden
spangles (4) in the Hudson River, and the water shone like satin (5). The night seems to hold a
romantic, dreamlike aura. The description of the lights in the water as spangles (4) led me to think
of jewelry, which is precious, valuable and most often holds important meaning to he or she who
owns that piece. As I read through the piece several more times, a different feeling came to me.
The speakerseems to have a melancholy tone as the poem comes to a

Senior Project Reflection Essay
From hard work, comes success. At the beginning of the year, I did not know how I was going
to be successful when it came to Senior Project. I had multiple ideas with what I wanted to do, I
was struggling to find connections, and I was even going to be a part of a completely different
group. I tried one idea, that failed. I tried another idea, that failed. I thought to myself, What am I
going to do??? All my ideas had one thing in common: photography. I knew for sure I wanted to
use photography as a way to help others or bring awareness to a certain issue. It was not until late

benefitting animals definitely made everything easier, whether it was researching animal
welfare and animal homelessness, volunteering at and working directly with animal shelters,
creating bows, or advertising Bows for Paws. Not only did I feel good about myself and my
project, I felt good about all the animals that would get adequate and be given a second chance at
happiness. In the future, I will definitely use the skills I learned from this project. However, I
believe that I could have done more to improve, such as managing my time more wisely and
expanding my network. Therefore, the next time I have a longterm project, I will stick to my
planner and always set goals for myself. I will set time aside and prioritize my project, rather
than thinking I can just do it the next day. By being organized, especially with time, I can finish
early, have time for other activities, be less stressed and get more sleep. In addition to managing
my time more wisely, I can also expand my network rather than just working with one person. By
doing so, I will meet more people who share the same passion as me. This can also lead to more
opportunities because such

knew much about nuclear waste and how it was disposed of shows me that most Americans will
have the same response. If we ask a bunch of people to vote about something they don t know it
could lead to even more problems and consequences. This will affect the way I would bring it up
to the public because after this I believe that most people will not fully understand the scope of the
problem and will not see that politics trumps science, and even though science proves one thing
politicians will do what they want to do even if it s not

Mence of Dengue
Menace of Dengue
Dengue is an arbovirus disease caused by any one of four closely related viruses that do not
provide cross protective immunity; a person can be infected as many as four times, once with each
serotype. Dengue viruses are transmitted from person to person by the Aedes aegypti mosquito in
the domestic environment. Periodic epidemics have occurred in the Western Hemisphere for over
200 years. In the past 20 years, however, dengue transmission and frequency of epidemics have
increased greatly in most tropical countries of the American, African and Asian region. As this has
occurred, dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) has emerged and produced epidemics in many countries
of the region.

Reasons:
The transmission of the virus to mosquitoes must be interrupted to prevent the illness. To this end,
patients are kept under mosquito netting until the second bout of fever is over and they are no
longer contagious.
The prevention of dengue requires control or eradication of the mosquitoes carrying the virus that
causes dengue. In nations plagued by dengue fever, people are urged to empty stagnant water from
old tires, trash cans, and flower pots. Governmental initiatives to decrease mosquitoes also help to
keep the disease in check but have been poorly effective.
To prevent mosquito bites, wear long pants and long sleeves. For personal protection, use
mosquito repellant sprays that contain DEET when visiting places where dengue is endemic.
There are no specific risk factors for contracting dengue fever, except living in or traveling to an
area where the mosquitoes and virus are endemic. Limiting exposure to mosquitoes by avoiding
standing water and staying indoors two hours after sunrise and before sunset will help. The Aedes
aegypti mosquito is a daytime biter with peak periods of biting around sunrise and sunset. It may
bite at any time of the day and is often hidden inside homes or other dwellings, especially in urban
areas.
There is currently no vaccination available for dengue fever. There is a vaccine undergoing clinical
trials, but it is too early to tell if it will be safe or effective. Early results of clinical

  • 2. Nt1330 Unit 1 Algorithm Paper The complexity and memory requirements of the algorithm are in the order of $D_mathcal{D}.{rm N}$, denoted as $O(D_mathcal{D}{rm N})$. The algorithm become more effective when the minimum difference $Delta Y_k$ is large between the transmission probability gains $Y_k$. Consequently, our algorithm finds an optimal solution coupled with linear complexity, when the network become more heterogeneous due to small ${rm N}$. Our algorithm also finds the optimal solution with an increased complexity, when the network becomes more homogeneous or less heterogeneous due to increasing ${rm N}$. The quantization precision ${rm N}$ in Algorithm 1, is a physical quantity specified by the underlying network that elaborate the designing of quantization step. The total content size $H$ depends on the required content transmission rate $r_{c_i, d_i}$ and $Y_k$, whereas $Y_k sigma$ are defined by the contact dynamics of the nodes in a network. However, if the network is difficult by the required level of transmission ratio, the values of $Y_k$ and the value of $Delta Y_k$, such that $rm N$ is too large, then the designer may have to comprise by reducing the desired level of transmission ratio to reduce $rm N$. In results, the sub optimal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The transmission rate and contact rates between D2D pairs are often quasi statistic information. In cellular network, all the nodes of the network can be known by their contact rates and transmission rate to the source node, as they can access the services provided by the network. In D2D communication, where the base station is not taking part of the data transmission, the D2D pair can transmit the contact rates and transmission rate by opportunistic contacts. Therefore, the information for the source node for content transmission and resource allocation of D2D pairs are distributed in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Key Historical Developments In Nursing Key Historical Developments The purpose of this paper is to discuss four key historical developments in nursing research and its utilization. Nursing research is the scientific process that validates and refines the existing knowledge and generates knowledge that directly and indirectly influences clinical nursing practice (Burns Grove, 2007, pg. 548). Whereas nursing research utilization, is the process of taking the products of nursing research and applying them to practice in order to improve patient care. This discussion will include the research advancements of Florence Nightingale and the creation of the National Center for Nursing Research (NCNR) and the publication of Image, the Sigma Theta Tau Journal, and the Conduct and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The publication of this document put into words how to use the products of nursing research. The CURN project is aimed at increasing the use of research through organizational change. Current hospital quality improvement efforts involve practicing nurses such as this writer in review of work processes to enhance their individualized patient care. The national push to achieve cost effective, high quality patient care based on evidence, led to the need of blending evidence with individual clinical expertise and patient preferences to provide individualized patient care. This paper has reviewed only four of the many contributions to nursing research and nursing research utilization. These achievements represent the many avenues that lead to nurse provision of individualized, expert patient care established by research evidence. The purpose of nursing research is to address specific issues or problems and to find answers to improve the delivery of care that nurses provide. Nursing research utilization takes the products of nursing research to the bedside. In this way, current direct care providers can base their daily care on research findings. This appears to be the very definition of evidence based practice and the road to high quality, cost effective care. References Burns, N., Grove, S. K. (2007). Blumler, Katz and Gurevitch (1974) had five elements to conceptualize the uses and gratifications model. Their first proposition was the audience is active in using of media. Examples Of Transcendentalism In The Crucible Out with the old and in with the new, transcendentalists began rejecting old Puritan and Calvinist ideas, these old ideas are deeply imbedded in the minds of the people of Salem. During the witch trails instead rejected these old ideas they were clung to. However, transcendentalists rejected these old ideas, thus making themselves individuals and optimistic, and by rejecting such they expressed their emotions and saw God through nature rather than the strict guild lines of the church. A protagonist of transcendentalismwould accept these ideas. Elizabeth was given the choice to tell John what to do or let him make his own decision; she made him become an individual by letting him choose what to do. Elizabeth supports John being an individual, making herself a protagonist. Another idea of transcendentalism is that society a source of corruption. John decides to conform to what society wants and confesses that witchcraft is real, then turns and decides that he will die for what he believes and not to follow the path of those accused, whom of which confessed. As John goes to die Mr. Hale, a judge, tell Elizabeth to change John s mind her reply is, He have his goodness now. God forbid I take it from him (Miller 145)! • 8. Theme Of Foreshadowing In A Rose For Emily A Rose for Emily is a story written by William faulkner which depicts the life of a rather odd woman. At the beginning of the story, the reader learns that Miss. Emily is dead, but is unaware of the dark side of her life. The author portrays events in Miss. Emily s life which lead up to the discovery of her personal life. These events were manipulated over time in order to build suspense within the reader. Throughout the passage, Falkner manipulates time in order to create tension and suspense. In A Rose for Emily, William Faulkneruses foreshadowing in order to create tension and suspense throughout the story. Faulkner immediately hints at what will happen to Homer Barron when he tells the reader that he never comes back out of the house. For example, Faulkner states, And that was the last we saw of Homer Barron. And of Miss Emily for some time. The Negro man went in and out with the market basket, but the front door remained closed. (Faulkner 7).The author foreshadows that something bad will be revealed to the reader. The reader is tense because they do not know what happened to Homer. Miss Emily never opening the door leaves the reader with a suspenseful feeling that cannot be resolved until the story s conclusion. Later in the story, Faulkner removes the reader s perplexity when he reveals the reason Homer Barron went missing. The people searched the sealed up room and find that the man himself lay in the bed (Faulkner 9.) Faulkner reveals the mystery behind the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Italy is a culture that is rich and saturated in their traditions of cooking. They take pride in their food and live by the credo that food is only used if it is fresh, local and in season. There has been much debate on what defines Italian food and through research one can see that Italian food is not typical of a specific dish, rather that each region offers a new variance of depth and originality that is not common to the Americanized beliefs of solely pasta and pizza. One way Piedmontese love to eat their vegetables is with a bagna caurda, one of their most authentic dishes. In a terracotta pot, garlic and anchovies are simmered with olive oil to form a thick sauce, then raw seasonal vegetables and breads are dipped into the sauce and eaten. Although this is one of Piedmont prized dishes, the climate is not conducive to grow olive trees and therefore to produce olive oil. However, Piedmont has a standing relationship with neighbouring region Liguria and trades wine for olive oil (Costanzia, 2009). The food richest in tradition, uniqueness and specialty to Piedmont is the white truffle. Each year a truffle festival is held on the first Sunday of October bringing in thousands of people from all over the world to hunt for truffles and celebrate the harvest. Truffles are a beautifully aromatic mushroom that can be grated on top of salad, pasta or risotto dishes (Roden, 1990). Autumn is the best time for cooking in Piedmont as it is game season, frog and snail season and most products are ready for harvest: grapes, truffles and wild mushrooms (Kistioukovitch, 2009). Protein in a Piedmontese diet mainly comes from pork, cattle and game. Since Piedmont is situated inland fish is not a staple in their diet. Freshwater fish and trout are found in some mountain streams with eels and frogs found in the rice fields. However, a healthy diet of saltwater fish as found in the south of Sicily ... Recent events such as a 3 year old being killed by a stray bullet make law enforcers believe that having a curfew can help to protect innocent children from misfortunate events. The new curfew states that children younger than 14 must be inside by nine o clock, while 14 16 year olds have to be home by ten o clock on school nights. On weekends and summer nights 14 16 year olds can be out until eleven o clock. The curfew might help one or two kids seek proper help; however I find it hard to imagine that one policy setting a curfew can fix adolescent behavior. If the people in Baltimore are willing to put in the time and money of following through with this policy to help just a handful of children, then I think they should go through with it, but if they are expecting massive results, this policy should be revised. Summary Of Gary Althen s American Values And Assumption In the article, American Values and Assumptions , Gary Althen notes that people who grow up in the same culture share their ideas and beliefs most of the time. They agree, not always, with each other. Each culture has its own values and assumptions. The meaning of culture can be a group of values and assumptions that complain with each other to form a certain people comprehensions and link it to the world around them. In Althen s article, he discusses individualism, privacy, equality, informality, competition, and time about the American culture. In American culture, the most important thing is to understand their individualism. Althen also believes that Americans need a time to be alone which called privacy. Also, to emphasize the point throughout the essay and meet the requirements of it. Therefore, the author sometimes but sentences between commas to show us the important of this sentence or the opposite which you can ignore this sentence. The author wants us to recognize how the mother treats her son by telling him to save his money and but what he want, she is not going to buy it for him. He wants us to understand how American makes their children responsible for everything they need even for silly things like juice. My experience at the camp was a memorable one, since I met a young boy with ADHD. Though it was difficult to get his attention, his condition made me more aware and got me to communicate in a more innovate way. By talking about a common interest of ours, the sport of soccer, I was not telling him instructions or asking him for his attention, but instead giving him mine. Social networking is mandatory because without it you are left in the dark about what is going on in the world and one s happiness has nothing to do with people s use of social media. However, those who say money buys happiness must be one of two things; liers or blind to the fact that you can have true happiness with no money at all. The two goods are perfect substitutes for each other. 5pennies are equivalent to a nickel. (2) You and I are in consumer equilibrium. CDs cost 10 dollars each and cassette tapes only 2 dollars each. With the income effect you consume less of both goods (since real income has decreased). Therefore at the new equilibrium, you consume less of X and the amount of consumption of Y depends on the relative strength of the two effects. (5) Think of a commercial establishment (department store, coffee shop, gas station, store from which you make common purchases that is spending your hard earned money) and think through the questions in the previous exercise (4) as they would apply yourself and to the goods offered by this establishment. That is, take any two goods or groups of goods from the store you have chosen and re do the questions in (4) as they would really apply to you and your tastes. Now you are thinking economics and thinking creatively as well! Consider choice made between having fruit beer(X) or having ice cream(Y) after dinnerassuming that both are good goods. At the equilibrium, the MRS=price ratio = PX /PY. At the equilibrium, the indifference curve is tangential to the budget line. MRS =MUX /MUY =PX/PY, i.e. MUX/PX = MUY/PY Now it is given that X(fruit beer) is craved much more for relative to Y(ice cream). Hence the indifference curves becomes steeper. That is now you are willing to give up more amount of Y to have a unit more of X. Alternatively, it can be said that you need more of Y to leave you indifferent for the same decrease in X. Hence the slope of the indifference curve, i.e. the marginal rate of substitution increases, i.e. MUx/MUY increases. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This experiment aims to verify that race is responsible for this difference in attitude. A survey containing multiple demographic questions and inquiries about attitudes and reactions to police officers was distributed to my Research Methods class as well as my family and friends. By using data from the BJS Police Public Contact Survey, the researchers found that officer race is an important factor in how Blacks and Latinos recognize officers (Cochran Warren, 2012). They were more likely to trust minority police than white ones. Christopher Huggins looked into citizen reports of police behavior during traffic stops in an effort to understand how officer and citizen race can influence reports of impropriety. Through analyzing 6,301 citizen reports of traffic encounters with police researchers discovered that African Americans are less likely than whites to report proper police behavior when they encounter officers of any race (Huggins, 2012). Han Toch s book, Volatile Scenarios in the Ghetto (2012), discusses the findings of the Kerner Commission, an 11 member committee made to investigate the causes of race riots in the 1960s, and what exactly these findings convey. According to Toch s book, the Kerner Commission found that race riots took place in areas where a large number of police officers had contact with the public (2012). The Commission mentioned that the targeting of blacks, particularly black men, sparked resistance and hostility towards the officers (Toch, 2012). The over aggression of some officers also led to a widespread distrust of police by the African American community, which was a building block in a lot of race riots. Prevention And Intervention Strategies For Vietnam Veterans Reserve and National Guard members, who report combat exposure, were more likely to experience new onset heavy drinking, binge drinking, and alcohol related problems, thereby greatly increasing their risk for suicidal behaviors (Frueh Smith, 2012). McCarl (2013) states that redeployment and multiple deployments can further compound a service member s already fragile state of mind if sent back into combat without fully recovering from the physical and mental wounds of the previous deployment (p. 410). Veterans who have reported killing in war had twice the odds of suicidal ideation (Maguen et al, 2015). In a study performed with Vietnam veterans, sixteen of nineteen suicideattempters (82%) had felt out of control as a result of excessive fear or rage during their tours of duty, including situations in which their anger led to their killing noncombatant civilians (Hendin, 2014, p. 584). Prevention and Intervention Strategies Suicide among veterans is a national concern and suicide prevention is a priority for the VHA. In concern for the health and well being of military service members and veterans, congress has mandated implementation of a comprehensive VHA suicide prevention program. The film was filmed entirely in Tokyo where Japanese director Takaghi Shimizu brought the popular Japanese horror stories to the American movie viewers. I went into The Grudge expecting a horror film based on the previews I had seen. When I watched the movie I found it to be quite a bit scary than what the previews had made it to be. So the film held up to its previews, however it was scary I would not rank it very high. The movie claims the Japanese believe if a person dies in a fit of rage, their spirit continues to haunt the living. The acting by Sarah Michelle Gellar during the movie was good and the rest of the acting isn t bad either, there really wasn t any actor that didn t do a good job fulfilling his or her part. The films special effects are also pretty good, they are also very freighting as well. The best thing about the movie and what really makes the movie so scary is that it has some great cinematography. The shots look good, and there are a great number of shots in the movie. The scenes are weird and a little outrageous at times from the repeated gruesome images of a bloodied woman, depictions of suicides, murders, to the disfigured body parts, but I do like how the film does fit the disjointed scenes together, it leaves your imagination filling ... • 39. Analysis Of The Chase Annie Dillard All good things must come to an end. A common phrase we have become accustomed to hearing, and a phrase that parallels the meaning of Annie Dillard s The Chase , an excerpt from her autobiography An American Childhood. In The Chase (1987), Annie Dillard recounts how childhood, no matter how enjoyable, will come to a close. Dillard conveys this by carefully detailing her childhood experience as a tomboy and that nothing girls did could not compare (1). Her experience during the chase symbolized an end of Dillard s childhood and wishing for the glory to last forever (19). The author recounts her story of the chase in order to express exuberance and love for childhood compared to the fact of mandatory growing old. The author addresses the audience in this narrative chapter of An American Childhood to express how short childhood is is this passing craze of life. The author uses expertly composed imagery, parallelism, diction and tone to create the impactful story in a chapter of her autobiography. The use of imagery builds the story and expresses how important Dillard s childhood was in shaping the women she has become today . The excerpt begins with a reflection upon her childhood and growing up a tomboy. Dillard set the stage for the chase by explaining the day as cloudy but cold (5) with cars lining the snow covered street. Imagery is used not only to set the stage for the day of the chase but it is also used to describe the man chasing them as a city man dressed in a suit and tie, street shoes (10). Using imagery to describe the man s appearance helps the reader to understand how unusual the man s appearance was and that the man was chasing them through the city. Dillard builds the suspense of the chase by taking the reader through the motions, past a ...yellow house...under a low tree, up a bank, through a hedge... (12), she builds an image in our minds of the neighborhood. The imagery is used to build up the scene, convey suspense and create emotions for the reader. Dillard chose to use diction, or word choice, to accent the two different aspects of the story. One aspect of the author s word choice was to portray her young, seven year old personality. But we also know that common sense is, sometimes the most uncommon thing. Again, using common sense requires some thinking on our part and we forget or refuse to do that because of ignorance, negligence or stubbornness. I recently read a book called The Death of Common Sense, by Philip K. Howard. It is a book about the system of governmental regulations and how it is suffocating America. The author argues that although we have a democratic system in this country, the laws and statutes that we have created are actually stifling people rather than making them grow. From there you would begin to start putting these remaining items in their proper place. I would suggest to start with folding all of your clothes and getting them put away in either your dresser or closest because your clothes often times take up the most space. Then you can focus on all of the other random things that are scattered about. Since you have everyting picked up and put in its proper place, you can start on the final step, which consists of all the polishing and finishing touches. This is when you would get your cleaning products ready because now all there is left to do is dust, sweep, and make your bed. It is very important that you remember to dust and clean all the surfaces before you begin to sweep. If you decide to sweep first, then once you start dusting you will only get more dust and dirt on the floor and therefore have to sweep a second time. One last finishing touch that I personally like to do once the polishing is finished, is light a candle. Nationalism was a result of a myriad of contributing factors which had a plethora of significant impacts on Germany during the years 1815 and 1871. Nationalism is an ideology based on the sense of loyalty and devotion one has to their nation and the beliefs that those who share a common language, history, and culture should constitute an independent nation free of foreign domination. The first, and perhaps most significant, effect that nationalism had upon Germanywas that it led to German unification in 1871. Another impact that nationalism had in Germany was that it allowed Germans to develop a sense of national identity. Many attempts to unify the separate German speaking countries were made prior to its official unification, however, they were all ultimately unsuccessful. This was due to the fact that although the people were Germanic, they had little sense of a national identity. Nationalism was a driving force behind the development of a national consciousness as it assisted people in realising that they were all German and, as a result, were all similar in many ways. These commonalities encouraged the emergence of a distinct German identity. The biggest cultural factor was undoubtedly the German language. Although there were different dialects used among the states, these variations emerged from the same source, hence, the German people had shared a common language. All the states also shared customs and a common culture, which stemmed from similar tastes in literature and music. There was an increase in German literature, from the works of Goethe and Schiller, that recognised common German characteristics and an interest in folklore also emerged at the time, as a result of the works of The Brothers Grimm, who presented these tales as German in origin and changed details that suggested different origins. What became the German national anthem was a poem that read Deutschland Гјber alles / Гњber alles in der Welt , which translates to Germany above all else / Above all else in the world . It is the scientific study of the association between the different structures and physiological processes of the nervous system and the behavior of organisms (Barkley, 1983). The focus of this particular field in psychologyis not just pertaining to humans as research on infrahumans consistently provides simple scientific information and data from which research ideas on humans will be drawn/ concluded from (Barkley, 1983). For example, research that was conducted on rats involved giving amphetamines to the rats with given closed head injuries yielded the option of exploring the use of stimulant drugs in helping the recovery of adults and children that have experienced accidental closed head trauma (Barkley, 1983).
