The Positive And Negative Effects Of Altruism
Suppose a reader is reading a mystery novel and he is close to completing the book; however, it
is very late at night and he has to wake up early the next morning. He has two options: he can
finish the book, fulfill his desire to know who killed the victim, and not get the proper amount of
sleep he needs, or he can go to sleep, receive plenty of rest, feel refreshed the next morning, and
wait until that evening to finish the novel. He would be altruistic to his body and his health if he
went to bed early; however, he would be selfish to his body if he stayed up and finished the novel
(Le Morvan). Altruism, which has both positive and negative effects, is a controversial character
trait; however, it ultimately promotes compassion for the human race and help for the ecosystem.
In a world where altruism exists, selfishness exists as well (Le Morvan). Selfishness is when a
person puts his or her interests before other people s interests, and altruism is when a person puts
other people s interests before his or her own interests (Le Morvan). Martin Luther King believed
with all of his heart and soul that every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of
creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness (Soosai Nathan). People have a choice
to help others or to help themselves, and their decisions can either be helpful or destructive,
altruistic or selfish. According to numerous studies, different environmental and circumstantial
factors affect how a

Anglican Communion And Episcopal Communion
Recently, the Anglican Communion and the Episcopal Church have been in a lengthy and complex
disagreement regarding the role of the lesbian, gay, transgender, and bisexual members of the
church body and to what lengths the church should go in order to accept all the different sexual
orientations within its congregation. The Anglican Communionand the Episcopal Churchhave
completely disagreed on the Communions core doctrine during this debate and have not come even
close to creating a resolution. Disciplinary actions have been taken toward the Episcopal Church by
the Anglican Communion in hopes for a withdrawal, but the Episcopalians have promised to stand
firm on their very and beliefs for equality for all sexual orientations. Due to the recent conflicts
between the Anglican Communion and the Episcopal Church, the Episcopal Church must disband
from the Anglican Communion in the near future in order to maintain on the path of its calling of
loving and supporting the lesbian, gay, transgender, and bisexual members. In January of 2016, The
Anglican Communion suspended the Anglican Communion from its right to participate in the
decision making process in the Communion because of its public support and acceptance of the
lesbian, gay, transgender, and bisexual church members and their marriages within the church
(King). But this movement started awhile before the punishment when the Episcopal Church took a
daring public stand for its belief in equal rights for all sexual

With 10 acres of land to provide enough space for the building to construct and future development,

most building achieving maximum effectiveness by expanding vertically, Griffin took a different
approach by expanding horizontally, covering most area of the given site, fully utilize the flatness

Jet Blue and West Jet Essay
JET BLUE AND WESTJET: A tale of two IS projects
1. How important is the reservation systems at airlines such as WestJet and JetBlue. How does it
impact operational activities and decision making?
Over the past years, customers have been heavily relying on airline reservation systems to book
their tickets, reserve seats, pay for the tickets and also check in online. For customers, this has been
a very convenient method and they are able to easily plan their trips. For the Airline companies,
these systems have the whole flight inventory managed. They have all the flight information stored
and records are maintained. It also provides a platform for communication between other airline
companies for their code sharing plans and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
WestJet faces the risk of losing many of their customers due to their system crashes and delays.
This benefits their competitors and hence a lot of revenue is lost in this process. WestJet also
spent a lot of money for testing the system and training the employees well in advance however
there was a high risk of damaging the brand name since other surrounding issues such as website
crashes made customers angry and brought a bad reputation. After seeing what happened to
WestJet, JetBlue faced a similar risk of losing customers during the upgrade system however they
had to incur costs to build up a back up site. There s always a risk when customers don t like the
upgraded system. It raises many questions; What if the customers prefer the older system? Big
losses can occur. However, on the other side the upgrade can be efficient and if it works better than
the previous version, it can lead to attract more customers. 3. Classify and describe the problems
each airline faced in implementing its new reservation system. What people, organization, and
technology factors caused those problems?
WestJet faced problems in transferring files containing data on transactions for customers who had
already purchased their tickets before the system upgrade. They could not access the passenger
bookings and this caused delays because it took time to transfer the files. Another problem they
faced was angry customers who flooded their site and

Servant Leadership Essay
Servant Leadership is a leadership style that leads by example, does not take credit for deeds
done, and makes themselves as humble as possible to serve others. Servant leadership is focusing
on serving the highest needs of others to help another individual achieve their personal goals.
Servant leadership has to be developed by the person in the leadershiprole. The leader has got to be
aware of themselves as a person before they can be aware of someone else s needs. The leader
has to be a moral and ethical person and have many positive qualities before they can see what
another person truly needs. Once a servant leader has these they can start working to meet goals

There are several leadership models used in healthcare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I do believe servant leadership is the best style not only for the healthcare field but for your
personal life as well.
Although I do not have a career in healthcare yet I feel I have several examples of servant
leadership throughout my life. I am a person with a very caring heart and a giving heart. Almost
over caring to where I get to attached or want to help more than I have the means to. I sit and I
dwell on how I could not continue helping another person, even after I have reached the max
capacity of what I could do for them. I have the heart for developmentally disabled adults and
children, animals of any kind even cats who cause anaphylaxis reactions when I even stand near
one, and children. All pull at my heart strings and make me want to give my all in any way I
possibly can.
I completed an internship during my undergraduate career at a non profit, LIFESPAN. INC.
LIFESPAN works with individuals that are developmentally disabled. LIFESPAN provides; day
program services, respite care, employment services, and many more services. During my time at
LIFESPAN, I created a game day event for day program, a community guide for all of LIFESPAN
with resources that the individuals and their families could use, visited homes of individuals and
their families during provider meetings, and helped teach classes during day support. I absolutely

Identity Crisis amongst African Americans
17 November 2014
Abstract
The question of self identity has been commonly argued in field of the African American literature;
with scholars such as Martin R. Delany and W.E.B Du Bois argue about the emphasis on raceand
racial consciousness. Together Du Bois and Delaney stress the importance of the color line, or the
racial segregation in the United States, as a critical part of American history; nonetheless they
both had completely dissimilar thoughts on the subject. Du Bois placed more emphasizes on
double consciousness. He was concerned that African Americans put superiority of one part of
their heritage over the other. On the other hand, Delaney argues that the major problem with
identity is the separation and how it was derived from slavery. However, these arguments have
not effectively addressed the issue of defining one s identity. My paper addresses the issue of
successfully identifying what we consider African Americans with special attention to why there
was once only Black and White with no shades of gray in America. Specifically, in my argument, I
will be examining the monolithic labels, e.g. black, placed on people of African descendants, in
order to show how history has failed to correctly identify African Americans. I will discuss self
identity and consciousness, and juxtapose them against race and ethnicity, in order to reveal the
previously misunderstood

Sidney s The Defence of Poesy and Television Commercials
I know that something major has changed in the world of television when my sons refuse requests
to turn the set off with the comment, Just let me finish watching this commercial. I have always
thought that commercials were something to endure until the real program came back on.
Apparently some of them have now become the form of entertainment par excellence of the
medium.
What do TV commercials have to do with Sidney s The Defence of Poesy? More than one might
think. Faced with the Puritans attack against poetry who saw it as a secondary form of knowledge,
called it the mother of lies and believed that it fed the fires of passion, Sidney responds with a
practical argument: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well, I am exaggerating a bit, but certainly the arts were not in the same league as farming and
preaching. When my father in law evaluated a story or a film, he wanted to know whether it was
true or not. Fiction lowered it to an inferior level of truth.
Why the Mennonite mistrust of the arts? I believe that it can be traced to our traditional belief in
conformity to the community and non conformity to the world. The strong emphasis on conformity
put certain restraints on the imagination; remaining non conformed to the world meant that one
could not emulate or profit from non Mennonite artists. So unless the arts were used directly to
support our faith and the values of the community (such as congregational music, quilting,
preaching, etc.)., they tended to be seen as frivolous or downright dangerous. One should not
ridicule that argument; if the arts truly have the power to move us and if the best come from the
outside world, it is only logical that the Amish Mennonite culture would take steps to protect itself.
So when Sidney tries to change the mind of his Puritan critics, his strongest argument is based upon
the assumption that good poetry will cause people to act more virtuously. Puritans and Mennonites
would both appreciate that approach. If one believes that good literature results in

We never did the tent thing, as my husband said, My wife will not go, if we don t have air

sleeping in the great outdoors when the temperature at its coolest is 85 degrees is not my idea

fifth wheels. With our budget we decided it had to be a pop up camper with air conditioning and
room to sleep four. Once we had purchased our camper, we then began trying to figure out what
else we would need. Neither my husband or I had camped when we were younger so this was all
new to us. We were lucky enough to have some close friends that had been camping for years

Eulogy For Olympias
Olympias seated from the clouds in her usual spot, watched the little specs of people in all different
extravagant colors, run through their everyday schedules. She adored the people of Athens, who
would go about their everyday actions, buying things from the market, children playing, adults
talking, Olympias loved it all. The people of Athensbrought joy to Olympias s heart. People at the
time never seemed to rush or worry about whether they would be late for work or how much
time they had left to play. Each one was always joyful and happy, no one knew about time. Soon
they would, and Olympias knew this. There was no such thing as the sun or moon, it was never
light nor was it dark. This would seem to be odd to people now, but in Ancient Greece, no one knew
better. They had never heard of anything called time, or the sun and moon. Everything was
always the same, no light nor dark, no time, and no worry. Athens was beyond compare to any

Eurydice fell to the ground, crippling into a ball. Olympias, enraged with anger, shot an iron

bright, beautiful friend. An idea suddenly started to form in Olympias s head as she looked from
the bright nymph to the dark god. She would place Eurydice in the sky beside her to warm the
people and give them light, and she would place Aristarchus in his prison in the sky to provide
sleep and darkness to the people. They would be called the sun and the moon, and man would

The Human Life Expectancy
Over the human life expectancy, performance of memory demonstrates extensive variety and
differences, with a generous increase in execution and performance over childhood and youth, a
sneak peak in young adulthood, and fast decrease with propelling grown up age. Memory
execution improves and increases amid youth and pre adulthood, and declines as the person hits
maturity or in old age. Among more youthful grown ups, better capacity to bind things to the
setting in which they were experienced is connected with higher working memoryexecution of the
individuals. This increasing and decreasing pattern of memoryapplies to both short term as well as
episodic memory. The arrangement of complex memory representations, going from perceptual
element to the development of higher order memories, ideas, and thoughts, fundamentally relies on
upon binding processes. A study was conducted to analyze the degree to which age differences in
binding add to life expectancy age contrasts in short term memory (STM). Young kids, adolescents ,
more youthful grown ups, and grown ups worked on global and local short term recognition
fleeting acknowledgment assignments that are accepted to measure and judge item and item
context memory, individually. A two component framework was proposed of memory development
across life span of the individuals. There were certain assumptions taken into consideration in this
study. Given the inadequate data and evidence with respect to age related changes and

What Was The Future Like In The 1980 s
The 1980s was a crucial time in the development of advertising. People were fed up with the trials
and struggles of the 1960s. These struggles indicated signs of what the future would be like in the
1980s and people started working to make the future different. Society use to work together for
mutual interests but slowly changed to focusing more on their own personal interests. This change
affected culture, politics, and education. It was the beginning of the the me generation. People were
only concerned about themselves and consumption was about self expression and individuality.

seemed like everyone was working to get it. Kasser (2002) stated that materialism was not seen
as a moral issue but somewhat a fundamental goal of life. For example, pop star Madonna

about wanting to have n affluent and wealthy life rather than love and romance. Consequently,
advertisers responded by portraying the idea that in order to be well, one must be well off and

The Caterpillar Essay
Caterpillars are innocent creatures that have inspired an author to write a piece about their daily
life. In the poem The Caterpillar by Anna Barbauld discusses two themes which are a realistic
theme and the hidden theme. Imagery helps with all the themes present in the poem. One example
of imagery is the silver line that streaks thy back (line 4). The Caterpillar talks about an insectthat
seems just like any other insect but the way she writes about it is as if she is glorifying caterpillars.
She talks of a caterpillar as an innocent creature on this earth that can do no harm. The poem then
discusses the unnecessary killing of that innocence. Caterpillars mind their own business and do not
mean to harm anyone while trying to complete their metamorphosis or better known as the butterfly
cycle. Killing an innocent creature simply because they are pests is wrong, especially due to the
issue that everything in the natural world is interconnected. When killing creatures , humans are
tampering with nature s natural cycle because every animal has a specific spot on the food chain.
The upfront theme is the one that many may understand when they read the poem for the ... Show

Strawberries and raspberries are also a good choice. One fruit salad that I thoroughly recommend is

Rice
Two types of rice that are suitable for eating with chicken salad are wild rice and brown rice. You
can even go ahead and make a rice salad. You can make brown rice, apple, walnuts and cherry salad.
The cherries make the rice sweet while the nuts make it crunchy. This salad is easy to make and

In more recent history, it was the heroic fight put up by Chhatrapati Shivaji that first checked and
eventually destroyed the Muslim tyranny in India. It was absolutely essentially for Shivaji to
overpower and kill an aggressive Afzal Khan, failing which he would have lost his own life. In
condemning history s towering warriors like Shivaji, Rana Pratap and Guru Gobind Singh as
misguided patriots, Gandhiji has merely exposed his self conceit. He was, paradoxical, as it may
appear, a violent pacifist who brought untold calamities on the country in the name of truth and non
violence, while Rana Pratap, Shivaji and the Guru will remain enshrined in the hearts of their
countrymen forever for the freedom they brought to them.
The accumulating provocation of thirty two years, culminating in his last pro Muslim fast, at last
goaded me to the conclusion that the existence of Gandhi should be brought to an end
immediately. Gandhi had done very well in South Africa to uphold the rights and well being of
the Indian community there. But when he finally returned to India he developed a subjective
mentality under which he alone was to be the final judge of what was right or wrong. If the
country wanted his leadership, it had to accept his infallibility; if it did not, he would stand aloof

Essay Of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
Williams et al (2014) compared MBCT with both cognitive psychological education, and
treatment as usual, he compared the success rate of the therapy in preventing the relapse of
MDD in people currently in remission phase following at least 3 previous episodes. It was
consequently found that MBCT provided significant protection against the relapse, for
participants with increased vulnerability due to adverse psychological history, but showed no
significant advantage in comparison to an active control treatment and usual care over the
whole group of patients with persistently recurring depression. Coelho et al (2013) provided a

evidence from the randomized trials reviewed by the authors, suggests that for patients with 3 or
more previous depressive episodes, MBCT has an additive benefit to usual care. J. R. van

The Design Argument Analysis
The Teleological Argument defends the proof for the existence of a God, it is also called The
Design Argument. It discusses the intelligent design in the universe. The supporting theory behind
this is that the universe is so vastly complex and well balanced that only a creator could have
designed it. All of the sophistication and detail could not have occurred by chance. When
examining the immense universeand seeing the complexity, intricate detail, and unique order there
are a variety of explanations for how it may have come to existence, however because of these
complexities and order only a designer could have designed it. The basic idea of the teleological
argument is that the world does have intelligent purpose, by looking at nature and seeing its order
unity and designed complexity. If one is to look at all living creature, the existence of DNA shows
intelligent design. Someone or something had to design the information imprinted in the DNA.
There is no absolute way this could have happened by chance. Therefore, there must be an
intelligent designer . There must be a God. Even if we apply scientific theory; I.e. The Big Bang
theory, The teleological argument supports the existence of a big banger. This big banger has
always existed; not requiring a beginning or an end.

Social Issues In Persepolis
Marjane Satrapi s uses a monopoly of themes in her novel Persepolis because she wanted her
readers to see different perspectives in her writing. However, Satrapi s tensions between past culture
and the present culture is self evident in her novel. The Author shows this by writing about her
experience in Iranduring the Iranian revolutionand the Iran Iraq war. To what extent does the
tension between past and present impact young Satrapi in Marjane Satrapi s graphic novel
Persepolis? This conflict between past and present changes Satrapi s life, family, and people
around her opening her eyes to the real world. During the revolution and the war, the author reflects
on the past culture that she was taught. The reader is exposed to a multitude of different cultural
and political aspects that proceed to affect her everyday life.
Furthermore, when Satrapi was a child she had a deep connection with the past culture she was told
dating back to the times of Cyrus the Great, around five hundred and eighty BC. This was because
of her grandmother s stories that was told to her as a child. (Satrapi 28). This era was the point
in time of the Persian empire. Cyrus the Great was one of the many people who impacted the

Essay on Margaret Laurence s A Bird in the House
Margaret Laurence s A Bird in the House
Margaret Laurence s A Bird in the House differentiates itself from the four other novels that make
up the Manawaka series that has helped establish her as an icon of Canadian literature. It does not
present a single story; instead, it is a compilation of eight well crafted short stories (written between
the years 1962 and 1970) that intertwine and combine into a single narrative, working as a whole
without losing the essential independence of the parts.
It tells at least on a surface level of the childhood of a young girl named Vanessa MacLeod , and of
her trials and tribulations in the small Manitoban town of Manawaka. The narrative style of the
stories is important, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most importantly, it is a story of captivity, of failed attempts at freedom, and of one woman s
partial escape from the constraints of her family, home, and past.
There is a single symbol that encapsulates the majority of these notions throughout the entirety of
the book: the bird, the bird in the house, the bird caught between the two layers of glass that so
changes Vanessa s life. Birds make too frequent and deliberate an appearance throughout the
collection of short stories to be mere haphazard additions to the background; instead, they, along
with the images and concepts associated with them, serve to alert the aware reader to what
Margaret Laurence, through older Vanessa, through child Vanessa, is trying to tell us. The birds,
and their associated images, are central and representative of the novel as a whole.
There are encounters with several birds throughout the majority of the stories: there is, of course,
the sparrow that predicts Ewen MacLeod s death; there is Grandmother Connor s perpetually
silent canary, Birdy; there are the hauntingly voiced loons in the appropriately named story The
Loons . They make subtler appearances as well: Grandmother MacLeod s hair is once described
as white feathered wings in [a] snare 2; there is the blue Chinese carpet with its birds in eternal
motionless flight (p. 47); the ladybird that climbs, falls, and climbs again, despite its ability to fly.

Corporal Punishment Is Wrong
Is corporal punishment wrong or is it a vital tool for disciplining our children which without our
society will ultimately continue to degrade its self and cause our fore fathers to roll over in their
graves? Corporal punishment with in reason is not abuse and should be considered a vital tool that
is not out dated and should be used widely and constantly through out the previous and upcoming
generations of man kind. Today with the mostly discontinued use of corporal punishmentand
generic discipline our children are becoming less disciplined, more disrespectful, and growing in
their boldness. Before I begin let me explain what corporal punishment is and the controversy that
has in sued in recent moths over it. Corporal punishment is the use of spanking, whipping that is not
abusive. Recently though people have been harboring a more hostile view of corporal punishment
regarding it as solely abuse at the slightest mention of spanking a child.... Show more content on

Deng shared a room with elder brother Zhou who was six years his senior and leader of the
Socialist Youth League of China in France. Together with Cai Hesen, who in 1918 had co founded
the New People s Study Society in Changsha, and Li Wenhai, later a political commissar of the Red
Army during the Long March, Zhou Enlai had founded the league in Montargis. In February 1922
Deng moved there too taking work at Hutchinson s Rubber Factory. He was only in Montargis
seven months, then left to go to Chatillon Secondary School in Chatillon sur Seine, but was back
working in Hutchinson s again in early 1923. However he lost his job after only a month because
of his political activities, but he stayed on in Mantargis until June when he returned to La Garenne

a locomotive engine fireman, kitchen hand and a temporary helper in a boot and shoe factory. It
seems that he did nevertheless manage to develop a taste for certain elements of the French way of

The employees get trained well enough where they feel confident that they can perform the tasks
required of them, meaning they were trained well and were well informed. One of the employees
was a shift supervisor and the other a regular employee, I believe that there was disagreement in
whether there was performance monitoring because the regular employee always feels that
whatever he or she does is being monitored. What I found strange was that the question if the
supervisor was present during the task was marked NO for both of the employees. I would have
assumed that the regular employee would have marked yes but I can only assume that they believed
the question meant the manager the person who supervises every employee.
Hypothetical Intervention
If I were to intervene on employees not giving customer greetings I would make it so that the door
would have a sound when opened. Like what some stores have that when someone enters a ding

getting the manager to deliver performance feedback in regards to the greetings in an effort to
make the employees more aware that they need to do a better job at it. Preferably in a group, like
mentioned in class to not alienate a person.

Analyte Interaction Between Gauguin And Van Gogh In Arles
Jaehun Lee
11/8/17
Second Writing Assignment
The explosive interaction between Gauguin and Van Gogh in Arles in 1888 can be said to condense
and bring to head a conflict between two different ways of conceiving art and aesthetic experience
that had been brewing throughout the 19th Century. How do you see the contrast between their
approaches to painting? And how does this contrast bear out these different tendencies?
While the painters after the Impressionism period were called the Post Impressionists, the label is
quite reductive. Each artist had their own unique style, from Seurat s pointillism to Signac s mosaic
like divisionism, Cezanne, Г‰mile Bernard, and others. These artists were all connected in that
they were reacting to the aesthetics of Impressionism. Two of the more influential painters from this
movement were Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin, who aimed to connect with viewers on a
deeper level by ignoring a Naturalistic approach that attempted to merely depict the real. However,
the two had distinct styles which attempted to achieve the same goal: to access Nature s mystery
and meaning beyond its superficial, observable level. In close examination of Vincent van Gogh s
Self Portrait (Dedicated to Paul Gauguin) and Paul Gauguin s Self Portrait with Portrait of Г‰mile
Bernard (Les misГ©rables), one may clearly see the two artists contrasting styles on display.
Van Gogh based his paintings on the observable world around him, but he wanted to paint beyond

Heat Treatment and Qualitative Metallographic Analysis Lab ME 3228: Mechanics Materials
Laboratory Summary Comparing a material s initial treatment and the microstructures that are
formed from different processes, an engineer can accurately understand why certain treated
materials of the same family can be stronger than another. In this experiment annealed and cold
worked specimens of AISI 1018 STEEL are used, along with a Hardness tester, a grinding and
polishing process, and a micrograph to see the grain structure of the steel. After putting a specimen
through a process using each piece of equipment, grain structures of differently treated materials

This can be confirmed by comparing data from the experiment to accepted data for non treated AISI
1018 steel. During the experiment, two metal specimens were tested on the hardness testing
machine, using the HRB scale. From these values the hardness and tensile strength of the
specimens can be calculated and compared. After this, the two specimens were put through a
polishing process. This process leaves the specimens with a mirror like finish. A 2% Nital solution,
a combination of nitric acid and methanol, is then put on the polished faces. The specimens are then
ready to be viewed under the microscope where the grain structures can be observed. The treatment
these metals have experienced should affect certain properties of their microstructure. It is expected
that the fully annealed specimen will be softer than the untreated specimen because larger grains are
produced in the annealing process, unlike that of the cold worked specimen. This specimen will be
harder and have a higher strength than the untreated specimen because the cold working makes the
grains smaller and more compact. There may be some error associated with the results obtained in
this experiment due to imperfections in material handling and flaws in the specimens, but it is
expected that this experiment accurately illustrates how the treatment process affects the properties
of metals.

The Great Mosque Of Cordoba Vs. Hagia Sophia
The Great Mosque of Cordoba vs. Hagia Sophia Religion has played a huge role in the history of
the world of architecture. We can get a deeper look in the minds and attitudes of people when we
look at their beliefs specifically their religion. But even though religion played a huge role in the
approach to architecture, the pursuit of beauty and power can also explain to us the approaches
and the outlooks of those who built or designed buildings from the ancient world. Two buildings,
the Hagia Sophia and the Great Mosque of Cordoba, can show us two separate peoples and their
approach to constructing architecture that was devoted to their religions. However, while religion
played a huge role, there are similarities as well between the two that show that the rulers who
commissioned these buildings were interested in mimicking beauty and showing the world that
their building was the most beautiful and perhaps the most elite of its time as well as proving their
divinity as a ruler of a great nation. The Hagia Sophia was built in Constantinoplein A.D. 532 by the
emperor Justinian, who hired the renowned architects Anthemius and Isidorus to build it. It was
built over an existing building built by Constantine himself. The Hagia Sophia was a very
significant building of its time and one that drew attention and respect. At this time in history the
Byzantines, specifically Justinian, wanted to make one message clear, that message being that the

The Outsiders By Francis Ford Coppola
The Outsiders a film directed by Francis Ford Coppola s in the 1980s is about two social groups
of teenagers who happens to live in the same town and attends the same high school. Although
both two social groups live in the same vicinity, they live a completely different life. A group
identified as the South Side Socials (aka socs ), are the upper class teenagers, while the Greasers,
are the less fortunate kids, who just so happen to live on the wrong side of town. These two
social groups have had a conflict against one another for several years, but on one specific
evening, this rivalry turns deadly as one of the greasers, Johnny, stabs and murders a socs. Due
to the passing of one of the Socs, the Socs tried to avenge the death of their friend, while the
greasers tried to get the town to comprehend that the Socs were also at fault during that conflict.
The Outsider is an exceptional film depicting how social groups can explain our behavior, and
how deviance and crime are observed in relation to our social group. A social group is defined as
a group of two or more people who interact frequently with one another, shares a portion sense of
belonging and have a sensation of interdependence. As seen in the film, both the Socs and the
greasers care deeply for each associate of the corresponding group. Towards the end of the film, as
Johnny is being hospitalized for severe burns, Pony Boy expresses himself by stating the fact that
things would be different if he pass away.

The Founding Of The Information Age
One of the most important people in the founding of the Information Age would probably be
Gordon Moore. From his work at Shockley Semiconductor to his founding of Intel, Moore has
probably done more for the Information Age than anyone else: his contributions include mass
producing the transistor, making integrated circuits viable, and founding Intel to create these ICs.
Throughout it all, he maintained an optimism and can do attitude that allowed him to shape our
world into what it is today.
While he was a child, Moore liked math and chemistry, but while he was in high school he was
preoccupied with sports more than studies. Moore graduated from Sequoia High School and spent

He became convinced that transistors would have a place in the electronics market, but his
accomplishments led him to frequently disagree with Shockley. Moore and seven other of his

formed their own enterprise known as Fairchild Camera and Instrument. For this reason, the
founders of Fairchild became known as the Traitorous Eight (Thackray and Brock 22).
When the Traitorous Eight needed to choose a location for the Fairchild offices in 1957, they

Bennett states Material incentive and the prospect of war profits secured the vocal support and
loyalty of some Nova Scotians . (qtd in Bennett 142). Most people were heavily reliant on the
British Navy for protection and continued to supply British troops for their own benefits. (Bennett
142) Also, Halifax was the center of a large British naval and military base. As Wilms states the
strong military presence made it virtually impossible for any sort of active revolution. (qtd in
Wilms) Although their influence did not stretch across all of the settlements the base provided
simple trade and protection from warfare. This influenced many to stay neutral even if their
fundamental beliefs had most likely lied with the rebels. (Bennett 139)
Overall, based on multiple influences Nova Scotia decided to reside in the American Revolution
and stay neutral. Their lack of influence on the war was largely determined by spiritual revival,
economic salvation and independent ideology. In our modern society most citizens would go to
extraordinary lengths to protect loved ones, which is very similar to the Scotians. Some going
against basic beliefs they ultimately chose to benefit themselves. Although not taking the risk may
have eliminated the chance to create new identities and move into a new era built directly on their

Cons Of Abortion
The pros of abortion can be considered only if you been rape or if the ladies who is pregnant has
a high risk pregnancy or if the ladies are having a teenage pregnancy. Rape is horrible but abortion
can be so helpful to these ladies because the mothers have the right to get an abortion since they
went through rape and a tough time in their lives. Not only are the lady s victims but so are the
baby because there not a punishment to their mothers. The pros of getting an abortiondue to rape
can help these ladies and but, this awful memory behind them and get to move on with their life
s. Many people agree that is only right to get an abortion if ladies get rape so they can avoid the
trauma they got while getting rape so they can have faster recovery time. If they don t get an
abortion there just going to live with the trauma and it can affect the baby s life and the mother
life and their whole family. A baby should not come into this world unwanted (Abortion Pro Con).

Abortion is considered murder and should be taken away as soon as possible therefore the
reason for that is taking innocent lives away. However, some ladies who don t get approved for
an abortion they try to force there self to get an abortion. Society believes it should be taken

abortion don t believe it s true when reality it s true because you only have until you are 12
weeks pregnant to get an abortion after that you are not allowed to. So many ladies wait until
after 12 weeks the reasons for that is they don t have the money to get an abortion so they try to

The Sociology Of A Commercial Airline Pilot Essay
This assignment focuses on analyzing the sociology of a commercial airline pilot s job and the
working environment in this increasingly influential sector. An airline pilot carries great
responsibility and their job comes with a magnitude of risks. It is both a physically and mentally
demanding career choice that requires one to remain calm under pressure whilst operating in a
different time zone and unpredictable weather conditions, as well as having to meet the health
requirements such as perfect vision and coordination (to name a few). Commercial aviation is one
of the world s biggest sectors and so the magnitude of research is immense, however the aim of this
research assignment is to focus on tensions and trends surrounding the occupation of commercial
airlinepilots; such as gender inequality and stereotypes, as women continue to face gender barriers
due to the industry being dominated by males since the heyday of the aviation sector (Germain, M.,
Herzog, M., Hamilton, P., 2012). Additionally the stresses surrounding the unconventional work
environment, as airline employees tend to work on eight to fifteen hour shifts, however on
occasion flight delays may require them to exceed the length of the shift (Tourigny, Vishwanath
Wang, 2010). This unpredictability in scheduling policies may contribute to an increased level of
job as well as family related stress, even burnouts in some cases, which impacts on the well being
of employees. Finally the analysis concludes

The Conflict I Experienced With Raven Will Be Analyzed By...
Analysis of the Situation The conflict I experienced with Raven will be analyzed by the
psychodynamic theory and the attribution theory. The theories will be defined according to
textbooks, peer reviewed scholarly articles, as well as an outside source book. I will use the
conflict situation with my sister to demonstrate how each of the theories helps reveal aspects of the
conflict. The first theory reviewed will be the psychodynamic theory.
Psychodynamic Theory. The psychodynamic theory sheds light on the conflict between my sister,
and me. Cahn and Abigail (2014) say that psychodynamic theory is people who experience conflict

60). This always tends to happen to people whom have an interpersonal relationship. Further
research on the psychodynamic theory will be reviewed. The conflict analysis previously
described can be better understood applying the psychodynamic theory. After thinking about the
conflict, I have come to conclusion that my sister displaced conflict. Raven asserted the
hardship that she was currently going through and after analyzing the psychodynamic theory, I
realized that she was taking her frustration out on the wrong people. Over those past couple of
days, she has continually been building up her anger and she should have explained her
frustration with her friend that she was having issues with. After the fact, Raven realized that
she displaced her conflict. She made apologies to me because she felt bad that I had to deal with
her attitude and drive her home. Raven let her internal state of mind dictate our interaction. The
battle between her id and superego she experienced was from her not being able to keep friends.
This then lead to anxiety, repression and frustration. Knowing the type of relationship, we have, I
believe that I was an easy target for her to take her frustration out on. According to Lesser (1978),
despite the very basic fact that siblings spend at least as much time together as parents do with
their children (p. 40). I am Raven s favorite brother so she felt no matter what that I would still love
her. Overblown conflict. The

The article is about how Jeb Bush calls for U.S. ground troops to fight ISIS (Bobic). He
announced this on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 and he is the latest Bush to advocate for a
military campaign in the Middle East (Bobic). Ultimately, to accomplish this, he believes that we
need to intensify our efforts in the air and on the ground (Bobic). The ground forces should consist
of the United States, NATO, and Arab partners (Bobic). His announcement of this military action
in the Middle East was due to the Paris terror attacks where at least 129 people died and hundreds
more were injured by ISIS(Bobic). Lastly, Bush faulted President Obama and 2016 Democratic
front runner Hillary Clinton for wanting to withdraw from the world, particularly at a time when
terrorists are wreaking havoc across Europe (Bobic).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Article Rebuttal
Marriage is not about a piece of paper, a ring, or sexual preference. It has never been about any of
these matters, and should not be considered so. Marriage is the commitment between two people
who love each other unconditionally. According to Psychology Today, marriage is the process
by which two people who love each other make their relationship public, official, and permanent
(Psychology Today, 2002) . Anyone can get married, but it takes dedication and work to make a
marriage last and be successful. This paper will specifically discuss an article written by Jan
LaRue, Why Homosexual Marriage Is Wrong and what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In saying this she is being selective to support her argument, and in doing so is being confirmation
biased. Who is to say that homosexuality is more unholy, or wrong, than divorce, adultery, and
lying? Logical Fallacies
The fallacy that was used in this article is false attribution because of the biased attributes in the
argument. For example, saying that marriage has to be limited to only a man and a woman is
not discriminating, yet it clearly is because of the biased feelings of homosexual relationships.
Another type of fallacy that was used is the fallacy of ambiguity; when an abstract belief is
treated as if it were concrete evidence. Religion is not based on scientific concrete evidence, but
merely a belief in something. The Bible has been written and rewritten by man, and has lack of
evidence supporting that there is a God.
Conclusion
Many base their idea of right and wrong on biased conclusions and/or religion. This makes the
issue hard to decipher between who is right and wrong. Biased conclusions do not make the idea
correct. The idea that only a man and a woman can fall in love with each other, and not a man and
a man or a woman and a woman, is based on favoritisms in how someone feels about the issue.
Articles, such as the one above, have the intentions of sharing their beliefs in the hope of others
adopting that particular belief. The question that should be presented is,

Complications Of Obesity In America
Over time, America has become the most overweight country in the world. The lifestyle of
having home cooked meals every night has changed into the lifestyle of having people drive to
fast food places and grab something quick for dinner without thinking whether or not it is a
healthy choice. With many Americans realizing the obesity rate is increasing in both adults and
children, many are trying to act upon it. Whether it is through a New Year s resolution to lose
weight, or The First Lady s effort to change school lunches, more people are finally beginning to
realize the difference between being overweight and underweight. Obesity is defined as a condition
characterized by the excessive accumulation and storage of fat in the body ( Obesity ).... Show more

Some behavioral risk factors for those who are overweight include coronary heart disease, stroke,
certain cancers, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes (Kruger). On the other hand, underweight people
face risk factors such as malnutrition[,]...osteoporosis, [and vitamin deficiency] (Lee). Similarly,
death and a decrease in life expectancy are one of the risk factors that both overweight and
underweight share in common. An expert in this field, Judy Kruger, explains how ...risk factors
for and consequences of excess weight in older adults [are getting] critical because people do not
take these risk factors seriously enough to lower the statistics. Through these risk factors, it is
evident that being overweight is more dangerous than being underweight. Some starve themselves
to prevent obesity as some gets out of control eating a lot, but either way both cases are just one
step forward to death. Even though both types of obesity are different, they both share the same
idea as well as similar risk factors that are gone unnoticed. Obesity not only has undesirable
appearances and risk factors, but also makes a person physically

External And Of An Effective Compensation Program
External and Internal Equities in an Effective Compensation Program Wanda I. Ramos Trident
University MGT 511: Title of Course Professor s Name November 2, 2014 Abstract Pay structures,
regardless of the size of the organization, must have two things going for them, which are external
and internal equities. In order to give employees purpose to continue to give their loyalty and
retention, there must be incentives as paying for education, experience and training, job tenure,
demonstrated skills, or a combination of these attributes consistently. Organizations should develop
a well written compensation program which includes incentives, and addresses both external and
internal equities. External and Internal Equities in an Effective Compensation Program Committing
to a market base pay compensation structure means that employees will be paid at a competitive
wage when compared with rates offered to people in similar positions in peer organizations. The
labor market, ruled by supply and demand, drives the approach to determining the demand of
occupations with education or workforce development implications (Froeschle, 2010). Pay
structures, regardless of the size of the organization, must have two things going for them, which
are external and internal equities. External equity means that your employees are paid fairly in
comparison with those in similar jobs in your geographic area. Internal equity means that
employees are paid fairly in

Supernatural Elements In Dracula
With the creation of Stoker s vampire, his book enters into Gothic literature. Dracula however was
not the first of the Gothic genre, but was a standout feature in it. Gothic literature focuses on
mystery and horror and a lot of time supernatural elements. Nevertheless, Gothic literature was big
in Stoker s life according to Nicole Lobdell s article, Stoker the Victorian Gothic Stage , Stoker
loved Gothic plays, sensation melodramas, and vampiremelodramas. Lobdell states He interprets
the causes and effects of melodramatic performances and translates those elements into his fiction
(Lobdell 273). In Dracula, a key component of its story is its supernatural elements which are a
key element of Gothic literature giving forth the whole story being about vampires. Horror aspects
of Dracula can be seen in moments where vampires lose their humanity. In addition to horror and
mystery aspects, Gothic literature is also about the setting. The settings in Dracula give a sense of
suspense and mystery making them Gothic settings. Settings in Dracula are shown in Galens novel,
Dracula : Novels for Students when he states, the various settings including Dracula s imposing
castle, the ghostly landscape of Transylvania, and the graveyard and Lucy s tomb in London are all
settings that are found in Gothic fiction (Galens 32). Aside from Bram Stokers Dracula being a
Gothic novel it is also classified into different subjects of literature.

Changing Divorce Laws Essay
Changing Divorce Laws
In 1995, Statistics Canada data shows that 30% of marriages split (McGovern). Since the 1960 s,
marriage and divorce have been undergoing profound changes which have altered the meaning of
marriage, the chances of its ending in divorce and the circumstances attached to marriage. These
changes have made it easier for couples to obtain a divorce due to the changing laws and changing
morals of society. The changes include three new grounds needed to prove marital breakdown,
such as your spouse committing adultery, your spouse causing mental or physical cruelty or a
separation of a year it was previously three years. Divorce also impacts the family as a whole, not
only the children but also the two parties ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Monogamy was out, free love thrived, and divorce represented freedom. Enough people wanted
divorce by the late 1960 s that the pressure was on to change the law.
After long and bitter parliamentary debates, the federal Divorce Act was revised. Additional
grounds for divorce included desertion, imprisonment, or separation for at least three years plus
marital offences of physical and mental cruelty. The new law eliminated the need to appear in
court in most cases often the most personally humiliating experience in the older legal
procedure. The law later changed again in 1985, where it eased off yet again, to allow divorces
after only a year s separation. The broad trend in Canada was to make divorce easier. It was
accomplished by making it less fault oriented where most divorce applications to the courts are
no longer contested which eliminates the need for a formal court hearing where both parties
testify and ask for different things. With no fault splits in place, the social stigma of divorce
shrank. As more people divorced the stigma weakened further. The cycle continued while the
divorce rate soared. In 1951, there had been only one divorce for every 24 marriages, by 1987, one
couple divorced every two couples that married (McGovern). In 1993, there were 78 000 divorces
across Canada, compared to about 11 000 in 1968 before the new divorce laws came into

Artificial Neural Networks And Predictive Policing
Sir, please come with me, we deny your access to this building based on the data we received,
and we need you to go through an interrogation with us. How would a person react if he/she is
suspected to commit a crime? How would that person feel if the police just randomly show up and
ask for the intention of whatever that makes him/her suspicious? This is what will happen,
frequently, if artificial neural networks are used as a mean for predictive policing. First, just to
clarify, predictive policing is seeking to prevent futureharm and reduce crimerates by analyzing
information and patrolling areas based on the result. The policeare able to predict when, where, and
what crime is likely to happen with the help of this emerging... Show more content on

People often think that if there s science that supports the systems, it would be accurate.
However, the information the systems take in is not just at all. In order to support my argument,
I want to point out that there are cases where colored people are in a disadvantage for more
likely to be accused even though the white are doing the same thing. For instance, the police has
always targeted more on black people than on white people on trafficking. Because the crimes
that took place in the past are not in favored of black people, there are more cases against them.
Therefore, the systems sort through the data and conclude that black people are more likely to
commit the same type of crime, and suggesting the police put more attention on them. If the read
in information is not bias free, how can the prediction be just to everyone? My second argument
is that neural networks violate people s privacy when they collect information from social media
or any other means without their consent. Although some predictive policing software only allow
the police to predict the type, time, and location of a crime, other police systems are used without
protecting people s right for privacy. Our data, posts, information, and pictures are being looked
over by the predictive policing systems without us knowing or agreeing upon it. Therefore, it is not
fair for the police to search our

Scarcity, Choices, Opportunity Costs We live in a finite world. No matter how seemingly
bountiful the quantity of our natural resources may be or how carefully human try to conserve
them, if we keep using them, they eventually are going to run out. Our tastes for goods and

Communist China The Communist Party of China is the ruling political party of the People s
Republic of China. The Communist Party of China was founded in 1921 and the party was small at
first, but grew intermittently through 1920s. It became formally allied with the Kuomingtang
(KMT) in 1923. In 1927 the Communist Party of China split from the Kuomingtang party. The only
major section of the party which survived was the section built around Mao Zedong. The Peoples
Republic of China was regarded as Communist China. Since it was established in 1949, it has been
led by the Communist Party of China.
Chairman Mao is the founder of the People s Republic of China in 1949 and one of the founders of
the Chinese Communist party in 1921. He is known as one of the most prominent Communist
theoreticians. The Communist Party of China takes Marxism Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought,
Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of Three Represents as its guide to action.
From 1921 to 1949, the Communist Party of China led the Chinese people in their tough armed
struggle and finally succeeded in overthrowing the rule of imperialism, feudalism and bureaucrat
capitalism and establishing the People s Republic of China (PRC). After the founding of the PRC,
the CPC led the Chinese people of all ethnic groups in defending the independence and security of
the country, successfully completing the transition from new democratic

The Last Report On The Miracles By Louise Erdrich Summary
Louise Erdrich Louise Erdrich was born on June 7, 1954 in Little Falls, Minnesota. She grew up in
Wahpeton North Dakota near Turtle Mountain reservation, where her grandfather Pat Tourneau was
a Tribal chairman. Erdrich uses characters not only to demonstrate the experiences of Native
Americans, but also the heartache and pain she has gone through in her life. Erdrich s family was
far from normal, they faced many obstacles, but unfortunately they were not able to overcome
them. In 1981 she married Michael Dorris, a professor of anthropology and head of the Native
American studies program at Dartmouth (Andrews, McCarthy). Louise met Michael upon her

Hauled halfway across Minnesota from Little Rock brickwoods pious drivers, they still held the
peculiar sulfurous moth gold of the clay outside the town (Erdrich). This setting was a one of
many that Erdrich remembered from Minnesota. At the beginning of the book The Last Report
on the Miracles at Little No Horse Erdrich introduces the readers to one of many examples of
alcoholism. Then six grasshopper years occurred during which even the handles on the hoes and
rakes were eaten and a U.S. cavalry soldier, too , partially devoured while he lay drunk in the
insects path (Erdrich). Erdrich uses a character in her book that seems to be in pain due to her
circumstances. It was as though her soul were neatly removed by a drinking straw and siphoned
into the green pool of quiet that lay beneath the rippling cascade of notes (Erdrich). This
character also seems resolute to use music as a way to cope with her emotions, just as Louise uses
writing as a way to share her stories and escape the reality of life sometimes. At the piano
keyboard, absorbed into the notes that rose beneath her hands, she existed in her essence (Erdrich).
The character felt as though she meant something while playing the piano. Even when things were

  • 2. The Positive And Negative Effects Of Altruism Suppose a reader is reading a mystery novel and he is close to completing the book; however, it is very late at night and he has to wake up early the next morning. He has two options: he can finish the book, fulfill his desire to know who killed the victim, and not get the proper amount of sleep he needs, or he can go to sleep, receive plenty of rest, feel refreshed the next morning, and wait until that evening to finish the novel. He would be altruistic to his body and his health if he went to bed early; however, he would be selfish to his body if he stayed up and finished the novel (Le Morvan). Altruism, which has both positive and negative effects, is a controversial character trait; however, it ultimately promotes compassion for the human race and help for the ecosystem. In a world where altruism exists, selfishness exists as well (Le Morvan). Selfishness is when a person puts his or her interests before other people s interests, and altruism is when a person puts other people s interests before his or her own interests (Le Morvan). Martin Luther King believed with all of his heart and soul that every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness (Soosai Nathan). People have a choice to help others or to help themselves, and their decisions can either be helpful or destructive, altruistic or selfish. According to numerous studies, different environmental and circumstantial factors affect how a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Anglican Communion And Episcopal Communion Recently, the Anglican Communion and the Episcopal Church have been in a lengthy and complex disagreement regarding the role of the lesbian, gay, transgender, and bisexual members of the church body and to what lengths the church should go in order to accept all the different sexual orientations within its congregation. The Anglican Communionand the Episcopal Churchhave completely disagreed on the Communions core doctrine during this debate and have not come even close to creating a resolution. Disciplinary actions have been taken toward the Episcopal Church by the Anglican Communion in hopes for a withdrawal, but the Episcopalians have promised to stand firm on their very and beliefs for equality for all sexual orientations. Due to the recent conflicts between the Anglican Communion and the Episcopal Church, the Episcopal Church must disband from the Anglican Communion in the near future in order to maintain on the path of its calling of loving and supporting the lesbian, gay, transgender, and bisexual members. In January of 2016, The Anglican Communion suspended the Anglican Communion from its right to participate in the decision making process in the Communion because of its public support and acceptance of the lesbian, gay, transgender, and bisexual church members and their marriages within the church (King). But this movement started awhile before the punishment when the Episcopal Church took a daring public stand for its belief in equal rights for all sexual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With 10 acres of land to provide enough space for the building to construct and future development, Newman College has a nature advantage of spaciousness. With the Gothic/medieval feature, unlike most building achieving maximum effectiveness by expanding vertically, Griffin took a different approach by expanding horizontally, covering most area of the given site, fully utilize the flatness of the site, showing the sense of spectacular. • 5. Jet Blue and West Jet Essay JET BLUE AND WESTJET: A tale of two IS projects 1. How important is the reservation systems at airlines such as WestJet and JetBlue. How does it impact operational activities and decision making? Over the past years, customers have been heavily relying on airline reservation systems to book their tickets, reserve seats, pay for the tickets and also check in online. For customers, this has been a very convenient method and they are able to easily plan their trips. For the Airline companies, these systems have the whole flight inventory managed. They have all the flight information stored and records are maintained. It also provides a platform for communication between other airline companies for their code sharing plans and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... WestJet faces the risk of losing many of their customers due to their system crashes and delays. This benefits their competitors and hence a lot of revenue is lost in this process. WestJet also spent a lot of money for testing the system and training the employees well in advance however there was a high risk of damaging the brand name since other surrounding issues such as website crashes made customers angry and brought a bad reputation. After seeing what happened to WestJet, JetBlue faced a similar risk of losing customers during the upgrade system however they had to incur costs to build up a back up site. There s always a risk when customers don t like the upgraded system. It raises many questions; What if the customers prefer the older system? Big losses can occur. However, on the other side the upgrade can be efficient and if it works better than the previous version, it can lead to attract more customers. 3. Classify and describe the problems each airline faced in implementing its new reservation system. What people, organization, and technology factors caused those problems? WestJet faced problems in transferring files containing data on transactions for customers who had already purchased their tickets before the system upgrade. They could not access the passenger bookings and this caused delays because it took time to transfer the files. Another problem they faced was angry customers who flooded their site and ... • 6. Servant Leadership Essay Servant Leadership is a leadership style that leads by example, does not take credit for deeds done, and makes themselves as humble as possible to serve others. Servant leadership is focusing on serving the highest needs of others to help another individual achieve their personal goals. Servant leadership has to be developed by the person in the leadershiprole. The leader has got to be aware of themselves as a person before they can be aware of someone else s needs. The leader has to be a moral and ethical person and have many positive qualities before they can see what another person truly needs. Once a servant leader has these they can start working to meet goals (Trastek, 2014). There are several leadership models used in healthcare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I do believe servant leadership is the best style not only for the healthcare field but for your personal life as well. Although I do not have a career in healthcare yet I feel I have several examples of servant leadership throughout my life. I am a person with a very caring heart and a giving heart. Almost over caring to where I get to attached or want to help more than I have the means to. I sit and I dwell on how I could not continue helping another person, even after I have reached the max capacity of what I could do for them. I have the heart for developmentally disabled adults and children, animals of any kind even cats who cause anaphylaxis reactions when I even stand near one, and children. All pull at my heart strings and make me want to give my all in any way I possibly can. I completed an internship during my undergraduate career at a non profit, LIFESPAN. INC. LIFESPAN works with individuals that are developmentally disabled. LIFESPAN provides; day program services, respite care, employment services, and many more services. During my time at LIFESPAN, I created a game day event for day program, a community guide for all of LIFESPAN with resources that the individuals and their families could use, visited homes of individuals and their families during provider meetings, and helped teach classes during day support. • 7. Identity Crisis Among African Americans Khyandria Celestine Professor Sandra Staton Taiwo Identity Crisis amongst African Americans 17 November 2014 Abstract The question of self identity has been commonly argued in field of the African American literature; with scholars such as Martin R. Delany and W.E.B Du Bois argue about the emphasis on raceand racial consciousness. Together Du Bois and Delaney stress the importance of the color line, or the racial segregation in the United States, as a critical part of American history; nonetheless they both had completely dissimilar thoughts on the subject. Du Bois placed more emphasizes on double consciousness. He was concerned that African Americans put superiority of one part of their heritage over the other. On the other hand, Delaney argues that the major problem with identity is the separation and how it was derived from slavery. However, these arguments have not effectively addressed the issue of defining one s identity. My paper addresses the issue of successfully identifying what we consider African Americans with special attention to why there was once only Black and White with no shades of gray in America. Specifically, in my argument, I will be examining the monolithic labels, e.g. black, placed on people of African descendants, in order to show how history has failed to correctly identify African Americans. I will discuss self identity and consciousness, and juxtapose them against race and ethnicity, in order to reveal the previously misunderstood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Sidney s The Defence of Poesy and Television Commercials... Sidney s The Defence of Poesy and Television Commercials I know that something major has changed in the world of television when my sons refuse requests to turn the set off with the comment, Just let me finish watching this commercial. I have always thought that commercials were something to endure until the real program came back on. Apparently some of them have now become the form of entertainment par excellence of the medium. What do TV commercials have to do with Sidney s The Defence of Poesy? More than one might think. Faced with the Puritans attack against poetry who saw it as a secondary form of knowledge, called it the mother of lies and believed that it fed the fires of passion, Sidney responds with a practical argument: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Well, I am exaggerating a bit, but certainly the arts were not in the same league as farming and preaching. When my father in law evaluated a story or a film, he wanted to know whether it was true or not. Fiction lowered it to an inferior level of truth. Why the Mennonite mistrust of the arts? I believe that it can be traced to our traditional belief in conformity to the community and non conformity to the world. The strong emphasis on conformity put certain restraints on the imagination; remaining non conformed to the world meant that one could not emulate or profit from non Mennonite artists. So unless the arts were used directly to support our faith and the values of the community (such as congregational music, quilting, preaching, etc.)., they tended to be seen as frivolous or downright dangerous. One should not ridicule that argument; if the arts truly have the power to move us and if the best come from the outside world, it is only logical that the Amish Mennonite culture would take steps to protect itself. So when Sidney tries to change the mind of his Puritan critics, his strongest argument is based upon the assumption that good poetry will cause people to act more virtuously. Puritans and Mennonites would both appreciate that approach. If one believes that good literature results in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Research Paper On Camp Iroquoina Looking for a great Christian summer camp in Northeast Pennsylvania? Check out Camp Iroquoina in Hallstead, PA. Nestled in the middle of the Endless Mountains, this rustic retreat offers Boys Camp, Girls Camp, Soccer Camp, and Family Camp. I have been a Counselor at several Christian camps, and have never been at a camp with such a wonderful atmosphere as Camp Iroquoina. This camp does not have the most modern facilities or equipment, but it is camp after all, and there is something nostalgic about the wooden cabins, old fashioned dining hall and the small gift/snack shop. He was right that was my first requirement, living in Texas it gets really hot and sleeping in the great outdoors when the temperature at its coolest is 85 degrees is not my idea of a good time. We looked at all types of recreational vehicles, pop up campers, travel trailers and fifth wheels. With our budget we decided it had to be a pop up camper with air conditioning and room to sleep four. Once we had purchased our camper, we then began trying to figure out what else we would need. Neither my husband or I had camped when we were younger so this was all new to us. We were lucky enough to have some close friends that had been camping for years and they helped us out by telling us some things that would make our experience better. If you do intend to camp in a pop up camper here are a few suggestions of things that you will probably want to have, because I promise there will come a time when you wish you had them. 1. Flashlights are a must they are great for walking to the restrooms at night in the camp ground. Also, we have been caught out in storms and the power went out in our camper so they really are a great help then. 2. Lanterns are great for using in the camping area, when you sit outside at night and visit with your family or friends, it is a great source of light and fairly cheap to use. We always used the ... • 10. Eulogy For Olympias Olympias seated from the clouds in her usual spot, watched the little specs of people in all different extravagant colors, run through their everyday schedules. She adored the people of Athens, who would go about their everyday actions, buying things from the market, children playing, adults talking, Olympias loved it all. The people of Athensbrought joy to Olympias s heart. People at the time never seemed to rush or worry about whether they would be late for work or how much time they had left to play. Each one was always joyful and happy, no one knew about time. Soon they would, and Olympias knew this. There was no such thing as the sun or moon, it was never light nor was it dark. This would seem to be odd to people now, but in Ancient Greece, no one knew better. They had never heard of anything called time, or the sun and moon. Everything was always the same, no light nor dark, no time, and no worry. Athens was beyond compare to any other place, but there was soon to be and unexpected visitor. His name was Aristarchus. • 11. The Human Life Expectancy Over the human life expectancy, performance of memory demonstrates extensive variety and differences, with a generous increase in execution and performance over childhood and youth, a sneak peak in young adulthood, and fast decrease with propelling grown up age. Memory execution improves and increases amid youth and pre adulthood, and declines as the person hits maturity or in old age. Among more youthful grown ups, better capacity to bind things to the setting in which they were experienced is connected with higher working memoryexecution of the individuals. This increasing and decreasing pattern of memoryapplies to both short term as well as episodic memory. The arrangement of complex memory representations, going from perceptual element to the development of higher order memories, ideas, and thoughts, fundamentally relies on upon binding processes. A study was conducted to analyze the degree to which age differences in binding add to life expectancy age contrasts in short term memory (STM). Young kids, adolescents , more youthful grown ups, and grown ups worked on global and local short term recognition fleeting acknowledgment assignments that are accepted to measure and judge item and item context memory, individually. In the poem The Caterpillar by Anna Barbauld discusses two themes which are a realistic theme and the hidden theme. Imagery helps with all the themes present in the poem. One example of imagery is the silver line that streaks thy back (line 4). The Caterpillar talks about an insectthat seems just like any other insect but the way she writes about it is as if she is glorifying caterpillars. She talks of a caterpillar as an innocent creature on this earth that can do no harm. The poem then discusses the unnecessary killing of that innocence. Caterpillars mind their own business and do not mean to harm anyone while trying to complete their metamorphosis or better known as the butterfly cycle. Killing an innocent creature simply because they are pests is wrong, especially due to the issue that everything in the natural world is interconnected. It discusses the intelligent design in the universe. The supporting theory behind this is that the universe is so vastly complex and well balanced that only a creator could have designed it. All of the sophistication and detail could not have occurred by chance. When examining the immense universeand seeing the complexity, intricate detail, and unique order there are a variety of explanations for how it may have come to existence, however because of these complexities and order only a designer could have designed it. The basic idea of the teleological argument is that the world does have intelligent purpose, by looking at nature and seeing its order unity and designed complexity. If one is to look at all living creature, the existence of DNA shows intelligent design. Someone or something had to design the information imprinted in the DNA. There is no absolute way this could have happened by chance. Therefore, there must be an intelligent designer . There must be a God. Even if we apply scientific theory; I.e. Birds make too frequent and deliberate an appearance throughout the collection of short stories to be mere haphazard additions to the background; instead, they, along with the images and concepts associated with them, serve to alert the aware reader to what Margaret Laurence, through older Vanessa, through child Vanessa, is trying to tell us. Analyte Interaction Between Gauguin And Van Gogh In Arles Jaehun Lee 11/8/17 Second Writing Assignment The explosive interaction between Gauguin and Van Gogh in Arles in 1888 can be said to condense and bring to head a conflict between two different ways of conceiving art and aesthetic experience that had been brewing throughout the 19th Century. How do you see the contrast between their approaches to painting? And how does this contrast bear out these different tendencies? While the painters after the Impressionism period were called the Post Impressionists, the label is quite reductive. Each artist had their own unique style, from Seurat s pointillism to Signac s mosaic like divisionism, Cezanne, Г‰mile Bernard, and others. These artists were all connected in that they were reacting to the aesthetics of Impressionism. Two of the more influential painters from this movement were Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin, who aimed to connect with viewers on a deeper level by ignoring a Naturalistic approach that attempted to merely depict the real. However, the two had distinct styles which attempted to achieve the same goal: to access Nature s mystery and meaning beyond its superficial, observable level. In close examination of Vincent van Gogh s Self Portrait (Dedicated to Paul Gauguin) and Paul Gauguin s Self Portrait with Portrait of Г‰mile Bernard (Les misГ©rables), one may clearly see the two artists contrasting styles on display. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be confirmed by comparing data from the experiment to accepted data for non treated AISI 1018 steel. During the experiment, two metal specimens were tested on the hardness testing machine, using the HRB scale. From these values the hardness and tensile strength of the specimens can be calculated and compared. After this, the two specimens were put through a polishing process. This process leaves the specimens with a mirror like finish. A 2% Nital solution, a combination of nitric acid and methanol, is then put on the polished faces. The specimens are then ready to be viewed under the microscope where the grain structures can be observed. The treatment these metals have experienced should affect certain properties of their microstructure. It is expected that the fully annealed specimen will be softer than the untreated specimen because larger grains are produced in the annealing process, unlike that of the cold worked specimen. This specimen will be harder and have a higher strength than the untreated specimen because the cold working makes the grains smaller and more compact. There may be some error associated with the results obtained in this experiment due to imperfections in material handling and flaws in the specimens, but it is expected that this experiment accurately illustrates how the treatment process affects the properties of metals. ... We can get a deeper look in the minds and attitudes of people when we look at their beliefs specifically their religion. But even though religion played a huge role in the approach to architecture, the pursuit of beauty and power can also explain to us the approaches and the outlooks of those who built or designed buildings from the ancient world. Two buildings, the Hagia Sophia and the Great Mosque of Cordoba, can show us two separate peoples and their approach to constructing architecture that was devoted to their religions. However, while religion played a huge role, there are similarities as well between the two that show that the rulers who commissioned these buildings were interested in mimicking beauty and showing the world that their building was the most beautiful and perhaps the most elite of its time as well as proving their divinity as a ruler of a great nation. • 37. The Outsiders By Francis Ford Coppola The Outsiders a film directed by Francis Ford Coppola s in the 1980s is about two social groups of teenagers who happens to live in the same town and attends the same high school. Although both two social groups live in the same vicinity, they live a completely different life. A group identified as the South Side Socials (aka socs ), are the upper class teenagers, while the Greasers, are the less fortunate kids, who just so happen to live on the wrong side of town. These two social groups have had a conflict against one another for several years, but on one specific evening, this rivalry turns deadly as one of the greasers, Johnny, stabs and murders a socs. Due to the passing of one of the Socs, the Socs tried to avenge the death of their friend, while the greasers tried to get the town to comprehend that the Socs were also at fault during that conflict. The Outsider is an exceptional film depicting how social groups can explain our behavior, and how deviance and crime are observed in relation to our social group. A social group is defined as a group of two or more people who interact frequently with one another, shares a portion sense of belonging and have a sensation of interdependence. As seen in the film, both the Socs and the greasers care deeply for each associate of the corresponding group. Towards the end of the film, as Johnny is being hospitalized for severe burns, Pony Boy expresses himself by stating the fact that things would be different if he pass away. ... From his work at Shockley Semiconductor to his founding of Intel, Moore has probably done more for the Information Age than anyone else: his contributions include mass producing the transistor, making integrated circuits viable, and founding Intel to create these ICs. Throughout it all, he maintained an optimism and can do attitude that allowed him to shape our world into what it is today. While he was a child, Moore liked math and chemistry, but while he was in high school he was preoccupied with sports more than studies. Moore and seven other of his colleagues became tired of Shockley s management style, so they left Shockley Semiconductor and formed their own enterprise known as Fairchild Camera and Instrument. For this reason, the founders of Fairchild became known as the Traitorous Eight (Thackray and Brock 22). When the Traitorous Eight needed to choose a location for the Fairchild offices in 1957, they picked an area in California that would later become known as Silicon Valley ( Gordon E. Moore was given the option to choose his position at the new company; while most of his colleagues opted for management jobs, he chose to work as the head of research and development ( Gordon E. Photography has been around for a long time and there are many people who have contributed to the discipline. This influenced many to stay neutral even if their fundamental beliefs had most likely lied with the rebels. Their lack of influence on the war was largely determined by spiritual revival, economic salvation and independent ideology. The Sociology Of A Commercial Airline Pilot Essay This assignment focuses on analyzing the sociology of a commercial airline pilot s job and the working environment in this increasingly influential sector. An airline pilot carries great responsibility and their job comes with a magnitude of risks. It is both a physically and mentally demanding career choice that requires one to remain calm under pressure whilst operating in a different time zone and unpredictable weather conditions, as well as having to meet the health requirements such as perfect vision and coordination (to name a few). Commercial aviation is one of the world s biggest sectors and so the magnitude of research is immense, however the aim of this research assignment is to focus on tensions and trends surrounding the occupation of commercial airlinepilots; such as gender inequality and stereotypes, as women continue to face gender barriers due to the industry being dominated by males since the heyday of the aviation sector (Germain, M., Herzog, M., Hamilton, P., 2012). Additionally the stresses surrounding the unconventional work environment, as airline employees tend to work on eight to fifteen hour shifts, however on occasion flight delays may require them to exceed the length of the shift (Tourigny, Vishwanath Wang, 2010). This unpredictability in scheduling policies may contribute to an increased level of job as well as family related stress, even burnouts in some cases, which impacts on the well being of employees. In saying this she is being selective to support her argument, and in doing so is being confirmation biased. Who is to say that homosexuality is more unholy, or wrong, than divorce, adultery, and lying? Logical Fallacies The fallacy that was used in this article is false attribution because of the biased attributes in the argument. For example, saying that marriage has to be limited to only a man and a woman is not discriminating, yet it clearly is because of the biased feelings of homosexual relationships. Another type of fallacy that was used is the fallacy of ambiguity; when an abstract belief is treated as if it were concrete evidence. Religion is not based on scientific concrete evidence, but merely a belief in something. The Bible has been written and rewritten by man, and has lack of evidence supporting that there is a God. Conclusion Many base their idea of right and wrong on biased conclusions and/or religion. This makes the issue hard to decipher between who is right and wrong. Biased conclusions do not make the idea correct. The idea that only a man and a woman can fall in love with each other, and not a man and a man or a woman and a woman, is based on favoritisms in how someone feels about the issue. These changes have made it easier for couples to obtain a divorce due to the changing laws and changing morals of society. Monogamy was out, free love thrived, and divorce represented freedom. Enough people wanted divorce by the late 1960 s that the pressure was on to change the law. After long and bitter parliamentary debates, the federal Divorce Act was revised. Additional grounds for divorce included desertion, imprisonment, or separation for at least three years plus marital offences of physical and mental cruelty. The new law eliminated the need to appear in court in most cases often the most personally humiliating experience in the older legal procedure. The law later changed again in 1985, where it eased off yet again, to allow divorces after only a year s separation. The broad trend in Canada was to make divorce easier. It was accomplished by making it less fault oriented where most divorce applications to the courts are no longer contested which eliminates the need for a formal court hearing where both parties testify and ask for different things. With no fault splits in place, the social stigma of divorce shrank. As more people divorced the stigma weakened further. The cycle continued while the divorce rate soared. In 1951, there had been only one divorce for every 24 marriages, by 1987, one couple divorced every two couples that married (McGovern). People often think that if there s science that supports the systems, it would be accurate. However, the information the systems take in is not just at all. In order to support my argument, I want to point out that there are cases where colored people are in a disadvantage for more likely to be accused even though the white are doing the same thing. For instance, the police has always targeted more on black people than on white people on trafficking. Because the crimes that took place in the past are not in favored of black people, there are more cases against them. Therefore, the systems sort through the data and conclude that black people are more likely to commit the same type of crime, and suggesting the police put more attention on them. If the read in information is not bias free, how can the prediction be just to everyone? My second argument is that neural networks violate people s privacy when they collect information from social media or any other means without their consent. Although some predictive policing software only allow the police to predict the type, time, and location of a crime, other police systems are used without protecting people s right for privacy. Our data, posts, information, and pictures are being looked over by the predictive policing systems without us knowing or agreeing upon it. Therefore, it is not fair for the police to search our ... • 53. Economic Questions QUESTION 1 What are the THREE (3) basic economic questions that all economies must answer? Describe the differences in the way capitalism and socialism answer these questions. Scarcity, Choices, Opportunity Costs We live in a finite world. No matter how seemingly bountiful the quantity of our natural resources may be or how carefully human try to conserve them, if we keep using them, they eventually are going to run out. Our tastes for goods and services are virtually limitless and this creates scarcity. Like the Rolling Stones song says, You can t always get what you want. Because we can t have it all, we re forced to make choices. When we making a particular decision, we forsake opportunity to choose the alternative option. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 54. The Last Report On The Miracles By Louise Erdrich Summary Louise Erdrich Louise Erdrich was born on June 7, 1954 in Little Falls, Minnesota. She grew up in Wahpeton North Dakota near Turtle Mountain reservation, where her grandfather Pat Tourneau was a Tribal chairman. Erdrich uses characters not only to demonstrate the experiences of Native Americans, but also the heartache and pain she has gone through in her life. Erdrich s family was far from normal, they faced many obstacles, but unfortunately they were not able to overcome them. In 1981 she married Michael Dorris, a professor of anthropology and head of the Native American studies program at Dartmouth (Andrews, McCarthy). Louise met Michael upon her return to Dartmouth as a writer. Although Louise and Michael did not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hauled halfway across Minnesota from Little Rock brickwoods pious drivers, they still held the peculiar sulfurous moth gold of the clay outside the town (Erdrich). This setting was a one of many that Erdrich remembered from Minnesota. At the beginning of the book The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse Erdrich introduces the readers to one of many examples of alcoholism. Then six grasshopper years occurred during which even the handles on the hoes and rakes were eaten and a U.S. cavalry soldier, too , partially devoured while he lay drunk in the insects path (Erdrich). Erdrich uses a character in her book that seems to be in pain due to her circumstances. It was as though her soul were neatly removed by a drinking straw and siphoned into the green pool of quiet that lay beneath the rippling cascade of notes (Erdrich). This character also seems resolute to use music as a way to cope with her emotions, just as Louise uses writing as a way to share her stories and escape the reality of life sometimes. At the piano keyboard, absorbed into the notes that rose beneath her hands, she existed in her essence (Erdrich). The character felt as though she meant something while playing the piano. Even when things were going wrong her escape was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
